🚨REACTION🚨 Angels Hire KURT SUZUKI for Manager in 2026 #RepTheHalo #GoHalos #Angels #LTBU

Breaking news. Kurt Suzuki will be the Angels manager in 2026. What’s going on everybody? John FR, one half of Locked on Angels. Uh I am of two minds here when it comes to Kurt Suzuki being the manager. Obviously, we learned that Pulse was out of the running. We learned that Tory Hunter was out of the running and that they were talking to a number of candidates. I’m of two minds because one, I think catchers make some of the best managers in baseball. It worked out pretty good for us last time there was a catcher who was our manager and Mike Sosa. But it’s also not unprecedented for somebody like Suzuki get to get a job like this when you consider David Ross with the Cubs. Uh he became a special assistant after he retired. Eventually became the Cubs manager. Steven Vote spent one year with Seattle after he retired as the uh the bullpen and quality control coach. So not necessarily any management stuff in the dugout or anything like that, but he’s done pretty well for the Guardians. So there is precedent for hiring a catcher for their first managerial job even though they haven’t been in the dugout. He has been a special assistant since 2023 after Suzuki retired with the Angels in 22. And I’m confident that a manager who used to be a catcher will do a good job. My other mind of this though is this hiring is everything we thought the Angels would do, right? somebody in-house, somebody who’s worked with Perry. Uh dollars and years and control were probably not a big factor here. So, it’s everything we thought the Angels would do. That’s kind of what it comes down to. Now, really, what’s important here is the coaching staff. They come in with the same staff as last year. That is not a good thing. So, no matter who the manager is, and now that it’s Suzuki, it’s going to come down to who does he bring in for his coaching staff? and will they fundamentally change the way the Angels play baseball?

  1. Trying to see the pros here. Dude won a ring, had a long career as a catcher, clearly knows the game, won in college. He is a very personable guy as well, good manager of people. Guess we are all just going to have to see how it plays out now. No going back lol

  2. Until the owners leave the business… poor Angeles will always have difficult year's ahead regardless who they hire as manager… proof is in the history… smh… I do think under great circumstances… Suzuki could flourish here in Halo City… NEW OWNERSHIP ASAP!!!

  3. I always liked Suzuki as a player. Nothing against him at all but it’s hard to have faith that Angels ownership/management really searched for the best possible candidates for this position….or that they won’t screw it up some other way. Either way, how confident should I be that they WON’T be moving on from Kurt in 2-3 years and the cycle repeats….

  4. I’m not mad at the decision. I like Suzuki, I figured we would not get anyone that people thought was worthy anyways. Arte is and will always be Arte. I just hope Kurt gets to pick a new coaching staff that will benefit our team and coach them out of bad ways, instead of sitting back and say “they will work themselves out of bad swings, bad pitches, poor fundamentals etc” you can’t keep doubling down on what doesn’t work, you need to coach these young guys into better actions.

  5. not surprised but not sure I would even call this an in-house hiring. Suzuki was what a backup catcher for two years? and a pretty marginal one at that

But he was a good player earlier in his career. He just had absolutely nothing left in the tank by the time he came to the Angels.

my question is to what extent will he motivate the young players and help them flourish. We know very little about him and the way he works with others just yet.

In the area of motivation and mentorship Torii Hunter and Darren Erstad seemed to be on an island by themselves , but those are qualities Moreno doesn’t seem to value. go figure

i’m prepared to give Suzuki a chance. He is a local boy. I just figured him to be on Hunter‘s coaching staff, but we can never forget we have one of the worst owners in sports who sees marketing first and performance not only a secondary, but rarely, if ever put in the hands of experts

  6. Yeah ok. I like Kurt but i dont know if I'll ever get over the Angels letting the top college pitcher in the country go to Seattle in the draft. Been a fan since the early 1960's that may be the most mind numbing idiotic thing Ive ever seen from this organization.
