This is what a Pirates player told the newspaper. Quote, “People think we’re underachieving.” “Look around here. We’re playing to our potential. This is what $90 million gets you. Some of the teams we play aren’t even trying to win. They’re rebuilding, but still have a higher payroll than us.” What do you think that tells us? I mean, that’s the most honest perspective you can get from somebody on the inside. We laugh at all of this. And I think this might be from a different anonymous player. Again, without their names and identities, I don’t know who said what. The last two quotes were from one player. I believe this quote is from a different person. We laugh at all of this blank blank behind closed doors. It’s just a bad organization.

  2. Bad teams bring in bad players. So technically the player is saying they're a bad player. Because if they were good the team would be too thus maming the franchise good.

  3. You can have a low payroll and find some success, but you need to invest in other areas. Investment in scouting, coaching, player development is needed. The Pirates dont do that either. The last international player they developed was Starling Marte. They have no development system. The organization is a joke

And Nutting is laughing all the way to the bank, pocketing the shared revenue generated by the Dodgers, Blue Jays and other teams that actually care and then poormouthing to the local fan base, using the "small market" excuse. Idiots calling for a "salary cap" fail to realize the existing method of revenue redistribution (luxury tax) is why the Pirates, Rockies and White Sox are who they are. Socialism NEVER works in any environment. If you give money to the HAVE NOTS you take away the incentive for them ever to become HAVES on their own.
