[The Hockey Guy] Slow Start to 25-26 Season Could be Good for the Flames Long Term Future

  1. Yup, the Flames have needed a season like this for a while now, no more delusion in this fan base or organization that they can still somehow win a cup with this core

  2. I love supporting an organization that has to have good long term decisions forced upon them. This is coming 3-5 years behind schedule but better late than never

  3. I just pray that management will see the signs and not double down trying to win.

The average age of this team should go down dramatically once trade deadline has passed. Loyal guys like backlund, coleman, ras etc deserve to go to cup contenders and we should cash out.

  4. Getting out to this bad of a start will HOPEFULLY prevent them from trying to bandage the team to try and be competitive this season.

  5. I would like to point out that many of the people who are most excited for this were also the most adamant that a poor season like this couldn’t happen without dismantling the current roster.

I think too many people have a recency bias. They assume that a teams performance in one season is representative of what their roster can consistently achieve. The rebound of teams like Nashville and Boston, and the decline of Calgary, should not have been that unexpected given their roster construction.

A rebuilding team doesn’t have to strip down to the rafters to get a high draft pick, they just have to strip down and wait for a bad year.
