[Applause] Picked up along the boards by Sanderson. Ottawa’s got possession of the puck. Sends the feet in front. What a chance, but they can’t connect. Look. Oh, what a hit. You’ve got to keep your head up out there. In order to dictate the tempo of the game right at the onset of it, you want to make your opponent think and hear you coming. And that’s what he does with that first hit. The Oilers take it along the wing. Here’s a shot. It’s a save. Pulling Cole under pressure. Tosses it to Kachup into the offensive end right up the middle. Takes the feed. Here’s a short pass to Manapani with possession along the wall. The Senators have it now. The Order’s going to work on offense. Oh, it’s a great shot block there. Well, yeah. I mean, it’s great a scoring chance and you want to make sure that you get in front of that one. And he did. He gets all of it. Here’s a shot score. And quick as a hiccup, they are on the board here in this one. That’s a dream start, James. And it’s one they were looking for. You want to come out, you want to get out front, and you want to dictate pace. Well, we see him working on this deflection all the time in practice, James. And you know that in a game, that’s where he’s going to get you on a shot. And he doesn’t miss with a perfect redirect. [Applause] The Oilers get one quickly here and they’re up early in the first. So important when you’re the away team that you don’t come out flat. You get your lines into it right away and they’re rewarded with a goal in that first quarter of the period. Always handed right onto the bench. New meaning to Edwin. Yeah, he’s in there, isn’t he? And everyone’s kind of giving the shot trying to get him out of there. That’s embarrassing. Anytime you got to put your head down and get back to the bench, that’s tough. You’re going to get Raz when you get back to your own. Quick pass to Tulac and he coughs it up with the pass. Moves it to the middle and that’s stopped. The Oilers are across the line and into the offensive end. Slides the pass over to Jensen. The Senators play it along the boards. Sends it in deep. Edmonton’s got the puck on the boards. And they turn on the pressure. Two words for him. Yes, certainly James. And who’s going to come out on top by the beginning of this face off? You want to be able to get that puck in the offensive zone and find a way to continue to attack. As an analyst, James, you always look at how the play started. And this one started with a hit to separate the player from Pop and they were able to gain this possession cuz he’s not going to get an assist on this, but he starts the entire thing. Otto’s on the board as quick as a hiccup after falling behind. Well, yeah. And the counter punch though, right? I mean, that’s what it’s all about. How you can respond after you’ve given up a goal. And they do it perfectly here. seems to get the equalizer. Big time save with the block. The Oilers scoop it up along the boards. Headman pass. Great vision to see that stretch pass. Takes the feed from his net minder. The Senators move it in. Hal has been a dominant player on the ice. Reason why he’s getting back out there. Not much rest for him. He scored earlier in the game. Coach knows they need him. Denied by Skinner. Well, the game has changed so much. It’s so fast and the athletes are so strong. I mean the training that you have to undergo whether it’s in the gym or it’s functional you know that these guys are constantly working in small space areas working on their games working on their legs their foundation the lower half is so critical and this is a perfect example makes some space sizzling shot and he makes the save passes it to Amado loses possession after he takes a little hit Wicked stop by the goalie who got a club out to knock it away. Mark’s made himself look huge on that last save. I mean, anytime the puck is in a quality scoring area like the slot, you got to get square to the shooter. There’s the whistle as the goalie hangs on. Allark’s last save has to give this team some momentum. I mean, that’s a point blank chance that he’s able to take away. Just very aggressive and assertive in his crease. Still plenty of time left in this frame. We are all tied up in this one. Nice job tying up his opponent. The Oilers get a hold of it. Puck picked up in the open ice. Battle ensues for that loose puck along the boards. Tosses it on to Pathson. Nice slow entry from the right side. Picked up along the wall by Dryidle. Side steps the check. Big time stop there. Touch scoops up by Batterson. Looking to make something happen along the boards. Oh, what a slick stop by Skinner. Sometimes when you have no time to think and make these types of saves. I mean, there’s no hesitation here. A simply reaction to be able to make it. The Senators will play it in their own end. And they’ll go the other way with a great play by Dry. The Senators get a hold of the puck along the boards. Steps inside the line and that goes off someone in front and doesn’t reach the net. Jones looks around, fires it on net. Stopped by the goender getting a piece of that one. And to the point it goes. Stopped by the goalender. I love how aggressive he plays the shooter on the inner slot here, James. He knows that he’s got to take away the net, so he gets out and challenges to make the save. On the attack into the offensive end right up. The Oilers gain possession. Now he slides it up to Kanan. The Oilers pick up the puck here in the neutral zone. Tries to feed it across and a great heads up defensive play here. Dumps it into the Ozone. Good fight for the puck along the boards. Gets in front of the shot and that one’s turned away. clearing attempt and he’s able to move the puck across the blue line and out of harm’s way moved up ahead here in the neutral zone over the course and right up the bench. That’s like sleeping with the enemy. It’s embarrassing that you’re in there, James, but he also took a huge hit. So, the combination of the He’s got to collect himself here and try to demonate some composure and get back on the Great Poke check on the reach. Edmonton’s got a hold of the puck now. The Senators look to start the transition game. Handles the puck. In on the offensive attack now. Stopped with the waffle maker by Skinner. The Senators gain control of the puck. Angles it over to Jensen. And that goes off a body. And a tenacious effort pays off as he comes up with it. And now it’s over to Patterson. Picked off in the open ice on the attack and on the boards. Score. A clutch goal gives them the lead. Well, it’s very timely, isn’t it, James? To give them the lead and also the confidence that they’ve shown these past few shifts led to that opportunity. How many times have we seen this before? The play comes back in your own zone. There’s a scoring chance that they’re unable to convert on and you get going the other way and you’re able to execute. It really is a 200T game. [Applause] [Applause] Edmonton’s taken a one-goal lead here in this opening stance. And how does this now change the complexity? Well, I think the coach wants to manipulate their bench now that they have dictated pace, James, but if you’re an elite athlete, you’re always pushing for more. One certainly isn’t enough. You don’t have enough runway to sit back and say, “Hey, we’re going to coast this one in.” The Oilers have put a lot of pucks on net here in the first and they continue to lead. Ellers won the draw at center. Here’s a short pass to Amado. Stopped by the goender. Skinner’s got great rebound control and just pushes that out of harm’s way. Oh, and he tracks it perfectly in the offensive end. The Oilers gain the zone. Fires it. Great read on the block. Can’t complete the passes and goes off a stick. Stops from Cole. Comes up with the steel. Game management is everything. And you have to be aware of exactly what that is. And you can’t take risks in a game where you’re leading. You have to find a way to protect the lead. Tremendous read and even greater sacrifice on the block. Painting speed through center. And here they come on the attack. That’s a smart heads up defensive play by Dryid. Sends a pass over inside the offensive end now down the left. What a steal in his own end. Here we go. Puck’s in deep. The Oilers scoop it up along the boards. Puck gets loose. We’ll get some flow again here. Handles the pass. Takes the puck behind the net. Tries to feed it over to Bard. Blocked in front. Spence is trying to gut it out out there, James. I mean, he looks injured. He’s really laboring but trying to put himself in a good position to get off the ice. McDavid’s got on the offensive end on the back hand. Makes the save from above along the boards for the P and they keep the pressure on and it’s blocked in front of him. Big save by the goender watching that one. Edmonton’s been working hard and they put forth a strong effort throughout this entire game and that’s the reason they have the lead. They wanted to extend the cushion but unfortunately bad luck on their side or maybe it was good positioning by the goalender but nonetheless it goes off the post and out and that pass is redirected denied by the puck stopper. There’s the whistle as the puck is frozen up. Spence is in a lot of pain here, James, as he’s trying to make his way back to the bench. He was injured somewhere in the shift, showing his passion to try and stay committed to the play, but he’s got to get off past the midway mark in this period. The Oilers lead at 2-1 in what has been an entertaining game thus far. folks want. The Senators take possession here inside the offensive zone. They take possession as he locks him up off the face off. Here’s a chance to try to get it out of the defensive zone. And there’s the whistle. It’s gritty, it’s hard, and it leads to the goal. The Senators hard work pays off as we are back to even in this one. Yeah. halfway through the period. Now you’re looking at the details of the game and how you can get yourself back. And that’s what coaches will always preach here, James. True competitors know what it takes to be hard on a puck, James. And this is a perfect example of hounding, being tenacious, and then getting the puck and doing something with it. So, going from a defensive point to an offensive point and producing. Edmonton’s gone up by one here in the second period. And I like that jump in their step we’re starting to see here now. We’ve really seen an uptick in their momentum in the last two shifts. And they’re rewarded with that goal, James. And let’s see what the definitive call is on the ice. The Senators, they’re going to serve two for tripping here. Well, that’s certainly not going to help the team. I mean, they’re losing by one. They got to find a way to get some momentum to get on the board. Now, they find themselves killing a penalty. [Music] As we’re about to drop the puck, the power play unit back out onto the ice for another opportunity. Well, the power play unit steps out on the ice. They’ve got to reset mentally here, James, and just get rid of all the other opportunities that they’ve had and forget about him because the time is the present right now and they got to make good on this one. Slides the puck over, picked off by Sheru. The coach won’t be very happy with that play, James. Listen, that’s a good way to get your butt glued to the bench, especially when you have a lead. And here’s the pass to Dry Cidle. Couldn’t catch up to that pass. The Senators will try to shave a few seconds off this. Scores and they put the power in power play. They don’t like it one bit. Oh, they don’t like it, James. It is ugly inside the building. You couldn’t get anything going on the ice. And even harder when your own fans are booing. You know, it’s a hard shot when the goalender gets a big piece of it, but it still trickles in. [Applause] The Senators are going to swap goenders. Sometimes it’s not necessarily about your performance, but it’s about changing it up, resetting, refocusing, and they’re going to get them out of there.
