NHL Highlights | Sharks vs. Islanders – October 21, 2025

Number one Mlin celebrating to take the draw here at UBS Arena at Belmont Park. Brenberg Thomas Hickeyi happier with us here on a Tuesday night as the Islanders look to keep the Sharks winless as Drew Anne. One hands this pass around the net. It comes all the way through for Pelican and a risker that was blocked out of the zone and streaking ahead is Tyler Tapuli but is quickly caught turned around but he feeds Smith and now Celbrini right to the net and a tough stop to welcome Ilia Sro to the hockey game. is tough when the play’s going one way and then it stops up. It creates a bad gap for the defenseman and these two guys. Smith, he found himself the second half of last season. And there’s another look at it. A nice reactionary save by Ilas. Barcel across for Duplair to the net and Ascarov in traffic with Barcel driving and he took Demetri Orof with him. Alex Wenberg crossing into Islander territory. Leaves that one off. Ferraro’s shot is gloved and held by Siroken. Mayfield dropped his stick. Ekan had a chance on it. But it’s Wenberg instead. Centering feed gets all the way through. Lety over for Iorio. He’ll feed it down to the goal line. Wenberg shut off by Mayfield. Wenberg again. Hands off. It’s Ekkan with a sharp angle shot along the ice. Stopped by Siroken. Islanders get it up and out. Couldn’t find a way to get it through him. Gains the line, but then turn it over. And it’s a two-on-one the other way. Or he has a man in Gondet to the net. And Sroken gets it to stick to the pass. He can score goals. has won already this year. Sroken comes up with save number five. Puck still in a dangerous area. Schaffer on the drop. Drew, Paul, Mary, Barcel, and Horvette all together. Turned over at the line. And look out. Short-handed rush up the ice. Tied to Landrea to Graph and he scores. Colin Graph a short-handed goal and San Jose jumps out to the one- nothing lead. be a stand at the offensive blue line. Every team plays the same way. Make them make a play and we’re going to stand at that line. Just a great job by the Sharks and not just dumping that thing in. I I thought Jonathan Drew had an awesome beat on this thing. You’ll watch him come into frame right here and he’s right there beside Graph and I thought he was going to be able to get a stick on it, but just a quick release beat Sroken and for the Islanders power play. You mentioned looking to find its footing. Not the way you want to start the game, but you still got a minute and a half here as Patrick W throws everything. Barcel from the dock. Nothing there. Lety watching him closely. The pass fit out for Schaefer right at the blue line. Barcel once again. He drives to the net. The backhand all the way through. They score. Ball Horvat again from Barcel and Schaefer. And the Islanders after allowing a short-handed goal get it back on the power play. almost forgotten. Matthew Barczel, he wanted Bo Horvath the whole time. Usually it’s where Jonathan Drowan is in the middle of the ice, but disguising it a little bit. That’s an unbelievable pass. And you’ve got a guy in Ascarov who catches with his right. So, it’s a little bit different as a shooter. And Horbett picks up on that after that beautiful little saucer pass through the feet. But that hole sometimes isn’t there when you’re a shooter and you’re you’re facing a guy that well aware that his team was giving up too many not just chances but quality chances even in the game they won on Saturday against Ottawa and they won five to four. This is not a team that has historically won in recent memory by outscoring their problems. right in front. They score and popped right out to Casey Sikis and the Islanders with two goals in a minute four have taken the lead. Giving up a whole lot. This is pretty fortuitous as far as bounces go. Watch this puck squirt loose to Sikas right here. It goes. Okay, that’s Young S Sam Dickinson. But I love that from Simon Holmstrom in on the for check there. I think there’s been talk about why is he not playing a little bit more while he’s going to need to earn it and it’s plays like that. I know it’s a little bit of a mistake by San Jose, but if the stick isn’t in there under 6 minutes to go now here in the first period. Islanders up by one as Sam Dickinson gloved it down, kept that play alive at the blue line right in front. They move it over for God and he scores. Arimeters were an inch away from getting that puck out. It was gloved down by Dickinson and it found its way to God for the goal. He gave on both sides. San Jose in a sequence before this gave up so many and this is Zikas not getting everything that he wanted to on that. And we’ll talk about Sam Dickinson the young blueliner for the San Jose Sharks. High draft pick. He keeps that in at the line and look I’ll tip guy cap to once again that’s Graph making the play. We talked about Godette, his ability to finish, especially from in close, but the Islanders got to clean it up and so do the San Jose. Adam Pel a chance to get it out. Does not bouncing puck. Will Smith twisting and turning off Paul Mary’s skate and a point blank look for Skinner. Pel may have gotten a piece with the shin pad. Bo Horvath. Here’s Duclair. Boquist left side now. Shabanov downhill for Anders Lee at the side of the net. Spun it to the goal. A little dig at it. It’s in. The Islanders say it’s in. The referee has not agreed yet. Well, I think Brendan, what’s going to happen is they’re going to find out when this whistle was blown. As you hear, Anderson Le’s going to get it and throw it at the net. Let’s wait for the whistle. [Music] I’d imagine that they thought he had it covered, but the puck was in the net immediately. The call in the ice is a good goal. They change the call on the ice to a good goal. It’s now up for San Jose to challenge, but for the moment, it’s a power play goal of a 3-2 Islanders lead. Well, Bren, I think that that’s going to seal it right there because so often the officials will talk about when they intended to blow the whistle by Anders Lee. It looks like it’s just throwing trash, but he sees the goalender standing upright, understand it’s going to be tough for him. And let’s get the word. I think they might be taking a peek. Here’s one more look at it. We’ll take a listen. The pucks pucks in well before after review the call on the ice stands. The puck was in the net before the game. There you go. Count it. A Heinman. His third already this season. And the Islanders have two power play goals here in the first period. Shear. William before he came over was the Swedish Hockey League Rookie of the Year in 2021 and now a full-time member of the San Jose Sharks. Schaefer has some room to skate. He’ll hand off to Barcel. Return to Matthew Schaeer over the line for Paul Mary. Schaer went to the net. Paul Mary goes across for Duclair. Didn’t get a lot on it. Schaer scores. Matthew Schaer a multi-point game and it’s 42 New York. [Applause] He forces you to make the right play. And watch this right here. He gives it to Barcel, but with him going forward, he just demands it. And this opens up everything. A great chance for Duclair on the back door, but the instinct to Schaefer just to stay in there. Yes, you’re a defenseman, but you got five bodies in there. You’ve got no threat of the other team going anywhere. Why not stick around? A nice feed from Anthony Dclair. And this kid’s having fun. Islanders sort of kept everything to the outside. Just that high slot was there, but there’s more dangerous things than that. Breaking in. Grab to the net with a tip up top, but Sroen able to knock it away. Ankle of Druan pops right back to his feet. Deandria, good look for Tofoley and he hit one off the bar and it stayed out. And now for Anders Lee. Lee muscles his way by. 15 seconds left. Mayfield long range. Restster off the crossbar into the crowd. Anders wins this battle and he turns up and watch this thing come through. I mean, I got to believe that as Okay, a little a little I think by P season there wouldn’t have been as much of a debate, right? He only played 17 games in his OHL season and that left people unsure. But after watching him acclimate himself to the NHL so quickly, I’d have to imagine if he got Shakir Madulan also out. So three defenseman on IR. One of the reasons why they got Iorio off waiverss from the Boston Capitals. [Applause] Here’s Orlock to the slot. Cell Brainy shoots and scores. Mlin Celaney from just outside the hash marks rips it glove side on Sroken. The right intent. Everyone’s in the right spot and this is the line that I said just just be ultra diligent when this line’s on the ice. They’re going to play a ton of minutes. Nice shot by Celibbrini and sort of the theme recently that glove side. Maybe that’s a scouting report for teams is on Ilia Sroa. But a great shot there and that there’s Pio. will put it ahead inside Holstrom on a breakaway. Save Ascarov. A short-handed chance for Holstrom. The plays offside now. He goes back to the well a little bit. We’ve seen this beautiful move. He’s got that long range trying to get the goalie sliding and ask Sharks trying to scramble back in. It went off Mayfield. Paul Murray with the puck. He turned it over. Winberg re-enters for San Jose. Winber celebrating a save from Sroen underneath some bodies. One more shot and there’s a block by Anders Lee. Two seconds and one and it’s over. The Islanders have won three straight games to get back to 500 on the young season. [Music]

Matthew Schaefer extended his point streak to six games with a goal and an assist while Ilya Sorokin made 33 saves to lead the New York Islanders to a 4-3 win over the San Jose Sharks.

  1. I watched the Islanders broadcast just to change it up. Butch Goring got demoted? Victor Eklund sure thinks he is a better player than William. That will be a really good draft pick if that is actually true. Good luck to Duclair the former shark. Funny for him that he signed with the Islanders and was forced to lose his beard only the very reason he was forced to do that was fired off the team and now he has it back.

Schaefer, Eklund, Eiserman and Kashawn Aitcheson are all players I am watching.

  2. For the Sharks this was a mixed bag type game. Misa and Dickinson got their first points but Dickinson also had an awful turnover at 3:28 but the sharks also scored because of Dickinson at 4:08 . Askarov did not play as bad as his stats say and the sharks team defense at 6:54 is esp bad. The sharks did not lose this game because of Askarov. Graf played much better offensively. I wish these 2 teams played more than twice a year.

  3. Very pleased to see Misa get his first career point. Gaudette and Graf were good. Starting to wonder if the sharks should send Askarov down to regain confidence. 17 goals against in 3 games. It's hard to put it all on him given what he's playing in front of. We'll see if they can get the first win next time out.

  4. Sharks are having good games despite the final tallies. Kudos to a quickly upleveling team. And of course kudos to the Islanders for the well-earned W.
