Diehard Jays fan who has been living in Austin for the past decade. Every year when they roll into town I make the trip to Minute Maid and always have a blast. I've never had a single negative experience with 'stros fans. We always end up shooting the shit with the fans around us with the game ending in handshakes, high-fives and on more than one occasion, some hugs. Anyone I chat with here in Austin who tells me they are an Astros fan (and there are a lot of them) hear me parrot this sentiment. The same can't be said for my experiences at Yankee Stadium but that's a different story.

Y'alls loyalty to George is truly something special. The guy is the fiercest competitor i've ever seen. In interviews with players after the big W last night, George was mentioned over and over again, cited as the team leader whose intensity and vision became infectious. Without George we aren't making the playoffs, forget the WS.

The fact that haters only want to focus 2017 says more about them than it does about GS especially with the overwhelming evidence pointing to NY and Boston doing the same shit. The league just needed a scapegoat.

But here's the thing, anyone who has actually played high-level competitive ball knows that you're always looking for an advantage, an angle, and edge. Given that all these teams were exploiting a loophole, made it a systems problem not a "cheaters" thing and ill go to my grave thinking that. Also, people shitting on George and cheering his injury, guaranteed, have never played higher than little league or maybe a weekend beer league. Buncha stats nerds who talk with authority about the game and the "culture" but have never really stepped between the lines and probably throw a ball like my step niece with spina bifida.

Not gonna lie, when George dropped dick last night in the 7th, I cried happy elephant tears. The love I have for that man is off the charts.

Edit: Thought i'd add the local TO radio call of Springer's 7th inning dong since i mentioned it in a comment:

  1. Springer was a great Astro and will always be loved, some of us would like for him to do a Correa and return. A large number of us hate the Mariners almost as much as we hate the Rags. We were rooting for the Jays to beat Seattle and will be rooting for them to beat the Dodgers.

  2. Hell yeah. Fuck the Mariners, fuck the Dodgers. George needs a second ring since he wasn’t in Houston for 2022. Hope y’all get it done!

I’m a Stros fan also in Austin! Don’t come across a lot of Jays fans here. Hope you’re celebrating a title soon!

  3. My dude, I want yall to win SO MUCH. I don’t know if I’ve ever wanted a team to win a WS that wasn’t the Astros as much as this Jays squad. Team is so fun, I love George, I love Vladdy Jr, AND it’s against LA. Bring this one back to Canada!

  4. I still remember the day he got called up. We didn’t have much to look forward to back then, so we all hyped him up so much. It was the Summer of George lol. In a lot of ways he was one of the first lights at the end of our deep dark tunnel. I swear he would have weeks and stretches as an Astro that made him look like an MVP. He does it better than anyone when he is locked in.

He’s earned all the love and praise. Glad to see him have success with a great organization like Toronto.

  5. Astros fans love all their former players. We have an owner that won’t pay the big contracts and we (largely) are happy to see our stars get paid. It’ll be tough next year if Tucker and /or Bregman go to the Yankees. Maybe a playful booing once or twice and then back to clapping for the player.

I lived in D.C. when Harper signed with the Phillies. I enjoyed the Nats at the time. When their fans decided to boo Harper every time for signing with the Phillies I just lost all respect for that collective fan base. I can’t see Astros fans doing that outside of a playful time or two.

  6. Springer is the man! Was always one of my favorites from that 2017 team. Go Blue Jays! Rooting hard for yall

  7. Buddy, Congrats! We really don’t have any Ill will towards opponents so I’m glad your experiences here have been great.

And I literally love George Springer. Still my favorite player and I’m so happy to see him doing his usual playoff heroics.

    Rooting for y’all

  8. Thank y’all for taking care of our sweet baby George these past few years.

I’m also a Jays fan (for the next 10 days) in Austin.

  9. I started following the Blue Jays more since Springer went there. It was awesome seeing him do his thing, especially against the Mariners! Rooting for y’all

  10. Springer was the clubhouse guy. If I remember, he was the DJ and picked the tunes. While the astros have been able to continue their winning culture, a large piece of their tude was lost when Springer left.

  11. I’m a Dbacks fan who found a second team when yall put the dodgers down in 17. I can’t tell you how nice it is to see some reconciliation between the stros and the rest of baseball. Hopefully soon there won’t be anymore boos for the team or former team. GO GET EM BLUE JAYS

  12. I’m an Astros fan in Austin! I have now been converted into a Blue Jays fan thanks to this Springer moment. Where you watching the game?

  13. I was away from houston for a number of years in the military. Got more into baseball and really locked in with the team when I got home in 2014. George was the big name. The kid that was gonna come up and be part of saving us. Watching him from his first game on was really special. I love that dude. Hes such a great dude on top of being a baller. He would always play hard. Lay out for balls or slam walls. The dude is just special. Him getting back to the playoffs and doing well again is just as good as if it were the Astros going to the world series in my eyes. Hes very special to all of us for sure but hes got a special place in my heart.

Like I love Breggy too but George is on another level of me wanting him to succeed. I was all in on the Jays this post season and im so glad he had another huge moment.

  14. I have a friend who’s a massive Jays fan up in Toronto. He’s been there for all the Astros’ postseason runs with me, and I’m glad the Jays are finally having the success they’ve been building towards. Beat LA.

  15. Glad to hear you’ve always had a great time at Minute Maid. I truly believe the Astros have one of the friendliest fanbases but unfortunately the narrative around 2017 means we’re sorta pariahs no matter what we do. Some fans of the Yankees and Dodgers (and Mariners) have really made it a mission to make us, as fans, pay in public spaces for not abandoning the team after the scandal.

But we love the Jays around here. We call y’all the “Astros Del Norte” and root for Springer. Any friend of his is a friend of ours.

    Anyway, go kill the Dodgers!

  16. Even if y’all weren’t playing my least favorite team in the NL, I would still be rooting for y’all because the first Series I ever watched was in ‘93.

    GO JAYS!

  17. I’m renouncing my citizenship for the next 2 weeks and becoming a Canadian. Besides, who doesn’t love BJs?
