Albert Breer Discusses Bryce Young’s Future in Carolina
Finally, question number three. This is from D Lavoy. That’s David Lavoy. Thoughts on the Panthers? I think it’s interesting that they are 0 and three on the road and three and0 at home. How does the rest of the league view Bryce Young after two years? Well, I think you have to give the Panthers credit for the resilience, and I think this is a huge piece of what um what Dan Morgan, Brandt Tillis, and of course Dave Canales have been looking to build in Carolina. So much of it for for Dave has been about mo about about modeling a certain type of player and then trying to fill every position you can with that type of player. Edgy, tough, and I know these things could be cliches, but resilient and you see it with some of the guys that they drafted, you know, like certainly I think Nick Scon is somebody who fits that mold and what they’ve been looking for. Rico Dowel was somebody they were talking about over the summer, somebody who could fill that sort of role. you know, we see we see now, you know, what he’s capable of doing. Even Tedo McMillan, who’s sort of like a lowburn pet personality, they felt like he had some of that. So, I think you’re seeing what you’re seeing with Caroline from a global standpoint is like some of those guys they already had that were that type of player, you know, like a JC Horn or a Derek Brown or an Nikki Auanu. Um, mo mixed now with some of these new guys they brought in. And really, I think you’ve got a tough resilient group. I don’t think it’s they’re there yet, but you got a tough resilient group that clearly can ride some things out. Now, as for Bryce Young, like this is an interesting one because they’re going to have a big decision to make on him after the year. This is his third year. So, that means after this year, he’s eligible for a new contract. They’re also um in a position to give him um his fifth year uh fifth year option. Make a decision on his fifth year option. That fifth year option is probably going to be around $30 million. it would lock the Panthers in for 2027. So that money is fully guaranteed. So essentially when you when you exercise that fifth year option on a player, particularly a quarterback, you’re saying that guy is going to be here for another two years. Are the Panthers willing to do that? Are the Panthers willing to entertain an extension? Because this is the point where you’ve seen some of these guys, you’ve seen teams turn the page on young quarterbacks. It was the Browns turning the the Browns, you know, that that’s really where the page began to be turned with with Baker Mayfield, right? Like that was that was uh that was right like in that that that that that decision where you’re making the decision on the fifth year option where you you look at it with Baker Mayfield and it’s like okay like are we going forward with Baker Mayfield as our quarterback? Are we not? Um you know they went into 2021 with Baker. Baker gets hurt and they wind up trading Baker after his fourth year as he’s going into his fifth year option. Um they trade him to the Panthers the year before that. The Jets made a similar decision on Sam Darnold and like in those case I don’t think it’s that those teams didn’t like those players. It just had gotten to a decision point and it you know too so often with homegrown quarterbacks it’s either we pay them 55 $60 million per year or we move on. And so like that’s sort of what’s interesting about the situation the Panthers are going to be in with Bryce. You know, do you use that as your point to move on? Do you try to delay the decision for another year like the Browns did with Baker? Um and you know, obviously the Browns wound up being wrong about that, but they did delay that decision for an extra year with Baker after making the playoffs with him in 2020. It’s just an interesting spot that the Panthers are going to be in. And obviously over the back half of this year, they’re going to collect more and more information on which way they go. Um, you know, and and will they be in position to draft one next year? That’s another part of the equation here. So, it’s a pretty interesting spot to be in. The Panthers, obviously, the arrow is pointing up on them right now. It does look like a lot of the moves that they made in the offseason are starting to pay off. I’m excited to see what they can do with it because again, they were really in on the personality of the team. they were really in on the culture of the team um in the summer and and and really felt like what Dave Canales was looking to instill in year one like they were really starting to get it right before year two and I think that’s shown up early on and how they’ve responded after they’ve gotten beaten up you know like to to to get beat up the way that they did in New England and bounce back with that from that with two straight wins I think says a lot about where they’re at to beat the Cowboys the way they did to come back against the Dolphins after falling behind in that game Um, you you really starting to feel some positive momentum here for the Panthers.

I think Baker was a different situation altogether. After his third year, Baker had thrown 75 TD's in his career. He had just taken his team to an 11-5 record and won a game in the playoffs. In effect, Baker had shown significant flashes over his career, but not yet shown a level of consistency. Bryce is not that guy at this point. Most Panthers fans are of the opinion that our front office and coaching staff mangled the Darnold / Baker situation here, still that's beside the point.
But Albert . . . you didn't actually answer the question on Bryce. How does the LEAGUE view Bryce?

People don’t realize how absolute ASS the Panthers cast was around Bryce, them boys JUST NOW starting to get some actual NFL talent around him. (Still hasn’t had a #2 WR this year, #1 is a rookie”
Time to turn the page on Young – they have 2 better qb's on the roster plus they have a couple better qb's on high school teams in the area they should move on to!
Thanks for answering my question!! I don't think Bryce is getting a big deal in free agency no matter what, so I'd prefer they not take the 5th year option and offer him a 2 year deal for 50 mil total, which gives us room to rebuild through free agency for a couple of years with the cap room. And then if the team is in a good place and Bryce hasn't turned the corner by year 6, we can cut the cord at that point.
we will make a decision on bryce in off season. hes still developing but very tiny
Carolina didn't realize what they had when Baker and Darnold were there. It's all about the coaching, and a solid supporting cast. Young is getting better, even if he'll never be taller. I'd keep him for now. Build up the team further. Saban showed how well Bryce could play in the right setup. Don't become a revolving door at QB like Cleveland.
He gets 8-9 wins he’s getting extended
Delay a year if you can. He has not shown he can elevate average talent around him. A long term QB needs to help win 3 to 4 games on their back and make others around them look good. Bryce is not that player.
BY9 ain't worth 30 million right now, but hopefully he will be by the end of the year.
there is no discussion anymore bryce young is our guy. and we are entering a super bowl window we will just keep building on this team. we are a wildcard team this year stop playing with our name.
I don't understand Bryce supporters. There is no statistic of any type that demonstrates even average ability.
