It's a great moment for the city. But we want to be able to do that and have a run like that. We felt that when the Raptors did it, too. So, you look at the passion that they're playing with, and that's contagious. And you want to be able to also bring that when your time comes."

So then start playing for each other. Start developing good habits. Over the past 8 years there have been flashes of this. But it’s never all come together and there’s always a few who appear not to buy in.
Not making Rielly the captain half a decade ago was a mistake.
Despite their lack of success in the playoffs, this is such an honest statement coming from one of our longest tenure players. I feel his emotion through this statement and hopefully they can get some FUCKING passion in their playoff runs because so far nothing.
Good on Reilly being honest here. LFG blue jays!
They are really jealous of the paychecks those guys make
I don’t care what motivates them, but they need to develop some of the passion that the Jays are playing with.
I think the reality that their window could close is really starting to sink in. They’ve had many, many chances to get it done as this team. They only have a handful of chances left and you have to imagine that’s starting to worry them. You don’t get to try again next year forever.
Still, I think everyone is tired of this “yeah, our eyes are open now, for real this time” shtick.
Yeah yeah yeah whatever man. These dudes say the same shit every two weeks when something notable happens and then go back to playing Globetrotters hockey and shaking in their boots skating away in the playoffs when the going gets tough. I don’t think the core witnessing *another* Toronto sports team see playoff success (They didn’t even win the chip, they just made the finals and that’s enough to have the Leafs jealous) is going to spark anything extra in them than they got from watching the Raps actually win half a decade ago.
You know what? I like that attitude. The Jays are going the distance, their stars are putting in generational performances, and everyone in the line-up has been integral to them getting over the hump. You’re jealous? BE jealous. Let it drive you and let it motivate you.
The Jays don’t have the best line-up. Other teams have better starters, better bullpens, and some better power hitters. They don’t have all the superstars outside of Vlad and Springer (the latter of whom is on the tail-end of his career). But they do have a roster where EVERYONE has bought in, and everyone plays a role in ultimate victory. The guys at the bottom of the line-up who can get on base are just as important as the guys at the top of the line-up who bring it home, and they KNOW that. THAT’S a winning team mentality.
The Blue Jays are currently a blueprint of how to overcome adversity, playing for something beyond themselves and their individual egos.
With their backs against the wall, each and every one of them contributed in their own way.
Everything I said is what’s been missing from the Leafs for the last generation or so.
I think Steve said it best in his last recap after the loss. So bored of watching the team of millionaires somehow want to compete and win when it matters less than a fucking fan sitting on a couch in North York.
Jays never give up, never quit fighting, claw and scratch and force errors and get double plays and bunt and just do everything the right way and you can tell they work like hell to do so. Vlad said he knew this team was different this season when they all came in at 6am in spring training in Florida instead of 9am and it pays off. Vlad, Springer, Clement, Lukes, Barger, and really that whole team just shine shine shine the brighter the lights get.
It is a contagious feeling much better than the contagious 😷 depressive episodes I get every fucking spring. At least with Marner off the team we can look forward to something other than what prima Donnas wanted when they were teeners on ELCs. JAYS IN 4
And by passion… we mean standing around while our goalie gets run over.
Yeah, okay. I heard the same shit when the Raptors won the Ship. Put your fucking money where your mouth is fer fucks sake!
Morgan always seems to have the right thing to say.
Then the Leafs should grow some balls and maybe actually give a shit. Just a bunch of selfish twats.
Vladdy Jr. was brought to tears after the final out. That dude cares. He wants to succeed and he wants to succeed as a Blue Jay. You cant say that about anyone on the Leafs.
I know its just how hes explaining it but I would rather see him we instead of you. Just say “WE want” instead of “You want” all the time.
I feel like if the Leafs lose again in round 1 this will be the year that they will learn that lesson that will push them over the top in the future. These guys believe in learning more than winning so kudos to Morgan. Jays: we are a family and love each other. Leafs: I played 6 seconds fewer than league average on 2nd period PP on Wednesdays. Gonna need to call my agent and sit out for 3 games for menstrual cramps. Wake up everybody else and stop.whining!
I’m looking at this going:
But Morgan, you’ve seen this for years, hell *this* year your goaltender gets splattered and do exactly what about that?
Zippide Doo Dah… that’s what 🤷♂️
They need to start protecting each other 💪 and play for the passion not the paycheques 💸. Maybe even protect their goalie while they’re at it 🥅 crazy thought right 😂 If the Leafs are jealous of the Raptors in 2019 🏀 and now the Jays in 2025 ⚾ maybe that envy will finally light a fire under them 🔥.
Your time has come Morgan..Your time is running out too so lets fukn go !
Jesus I just can’t with these guys.
Last year was our best chance that we will have for a long time. This year ain’t it.
As a long time Leafs fan, in all my excitement last night a little part of me had to pour one out for the Mariners fans as their shot disappeared at the end there. We know what what’s like.
We REALLY know what that’s like.
Maybe start with standing up for your goalie.
My ideal scenario is that the Jays win the world series, have an absolute blast after, and then both teams just hang out for a week while it’s fresh and the jays can describe to them how it feels to be a winning team and what it takes to win as a team. Maybe some of that attitude will rub off on the Leafs. I don’t think basketball is really comparable because that’s a sport that can be won with a small handful of superstars, but baseball is a 20+ man roster where everyone needs to contribute and put everything on the line.
reilly, let your team know that the only way you’ll have the fans locked in and receive that same exact support if not more is if you tell you and your other millionaires to back each other up, play for each other, and make a fucking run.
Jays are 11/10 in vibes. Leafs gotta get up there.
“Maybe this will be the spark for us to give a single actual fuck, when someone blatantly runs our goalie”
Hopefully this shuts everyone up about the market being too hard on players and impacts performance. Springer smashed that sentiment with one bat swing last night.
So…do something?
Jays all bought in. Every single one. They want to win for each other.
Before they see results they need a serious shift in their attitude and effort. They need to try harder and show the effort all the time. Skate your ass off, stand up for your goalie. All this Marner shit still has me fuming. We are not that hard of a fan base to please. Just try. I grew up idolizing Clark and Gilmour. In the grand scheme of things they didn’t win shit.
Go Jays! Reilly’s sentiments are honest but as far as I’m concerned, tonight’s game tells the tale. If Stolarz gets touched or another player takes a crosscheck to the back and four or five Leafs don’t jump the guy responsible, then there is no hope and this group ain’t winning shit. The epidemic softness of this group needs to be exorcised starting tonight. The soft forecheck with no body contact has to stop.
Maybe they should try caring enough to fight for that extra inch every single time. That’s what the Jays do, that’s what the Raptors did in 2019. Not sure why they can’t do it.
I just really feel like Rielly is going to have one hell of a season this year. Something about his energy lately
I hope they’re all dying with jealousy. Even the Blue Jays winning the world series would be a small taste of what would happen if the Leafs won.
