Boston Bruins vs. Florida Panthers | Game Preview | 10/21/2025
You’re under start to get a little emotional just you know it kind of hits you when you’re here a little bit more and scores. Save the puck. Maran kicks it around the net. Wrap around chance score. Marshon hit him hard in the slap. Pulling drive shoots a shot in goal. First run to Maran. He scores. Mar does it again. An actual handling. Cuz I know they don’t like the Panthers very much, but you know, maybe they’ll like me enough to give it a little yay out there or something. [Music] What’s your message to the fans? Yeah, my message to the fans. Um, obviously I just want to thank you guys for uh a very incredible um stint here. It’s been the best years. My Well, sorry. Yeah. All right. Just have to do that again. Okay. Um yeah, I just want to thank uh thank you guys for everything. Um for the last 15 years has been the best years of my life. Wow. Brad Marshian emotional yesterday addressing the fans and he said in that interview too that it was weird coming to the DD Garden obviously as it would be after 16 seasons with the Boston Bruins off of a bus in the visitors hallway in the visitors dressing room. Uh the suit beautiful Marshy looking sharp as usual returning the former captain to the TD garden as a member of the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers for the first time. We welcome you into our studio, our Salem studio for Bruins face up live presented by Plymouth Rock Auto and Home Insurance for Boston sports fans. Sophia and Barry here with you. And of course, we’re going to address the Boston Bruins and what they need to do to get back into the win column, but it’s impossible not to shine the spotlight on Brad Marshall. No, that’s for sure. This is uh this is one of those days when that schedule came out beginning of the year and we saw Tuesday, October the 1st. I remember you and I, we were circling that day. We can’t wait to be there. Yes. Well, ESPN said, “You know what? We can’t wait to be there either.” So, you guys are at the studio. Thank you. Yes. So, ESPN has the game, but we are also going to have postgame. And if you’re watching, you know that we do it best, right, Barry? We’ve been having the Boston Bruins and Brad Marshian for as long as he he’s been here. Uh we’re going to go through him and all his memories and his antics because his antics he’s still up to them. And this happened over the weekend, Barry, against Buffalo. Florida frustrated because they’re riding a four game losing streak as well. Uh but you obviously saw this in the highlights and what happened after ripping the helmet off. Oh, absolutely. And and of course this little rivalry is not only with Buffalo, it’s with Dene in particular. He and Dollene have had a long feud at each other. They both are intense. They both get on it. Neither of them want to give an inch. And Marshy there got that Dene got away with a a bad cross check to begin with. Sure did. But Marsh and uh kind of even things up and then Marshy also just kind of says, “You know what? I want some equipment here. I’m going to give it back to you, but you’re not going to be able to use it.” So it was vintage Marine I think a little frustration as you mentioned not only from him but from the team because they’ve lost four in a row as well right now and they’re trying to get some energy and get back get things heading in the proper direction. Yes. And Brad Marshian is that energizer even antics but he’s the energizer for whatever team he’s played for the Bruins and now uh the Florida Panthers. He said in a press conference that he wanted to throw that helmet into the stands but he knew that that would probably result in a suspension. That would be terrible if he was suspended heading into this one. Uh the uh the Florida Panthers, like I said, haven’t played since that game. And as we go over this preview with Brad Marshian returning, we just want to remind you of his ranks with the Boston Bruins. First in short-handed goals, first in overtime goals, and those obviously uh huge game-winning goals as well. Second, like these are these are not small numbers, B. No, they’re not. And he uh ranks obviously as one of the Bruins. Great. He’ll be into the hockey hall of fame. He’ll be putting 63 up on the Raptor. But I don’t really think that tells the story when we look at those numbers as great as they are. To me, it’s his career where he came up as a small 5’9 180lb guy. Probably wasn’t even 180 in those days. And he’s the uh fourth liner and he works his butt off and he becomes one of the great alltime Bruins and a great fan favorite. Absolutely. And we’re going to talk about that on this show and we’re going to talk about it with the guys at the Garden. We’re going to start with Adam Pelerin where I can imagine I hear the buzz behind you already that the vibes are super high at the Garden. The Bruins, they’re focused on winning, right? And breaking their losing streak, but it’s hard, as we said here on this set already, not to talk about Brad Marian’s return, Adam. Yeah, in fact, we’re going to hear from Charlie Makavoy and David Postrock, who after the loss to the Utah Mammoth talked about the return of their old teammate and pal. But yeah, I mean, you guys were showing the numbers. I mean, the first NHL assist came on Garden on this day 16 years ago when Brad Marshian made his NHL debut against Nashville. A 3-2 win for the Bruins. Some of the teammates included Zedane Oara, Patrice Berseron, and Marco Sturm. He was just 21 years old at the time. And now, more than 1100 games later, he’s back on Garden in a Panthers jersey, which is just so strange. It’s so surreal. And that was the sentiment echoed by Charlie Makavoy and David Posternok who are expecting some emotion but some chirps from their pal tonight. But yeah, definitely going to be weird. Uh you know uh probably when we get home tomorrow uh started thinking you know uh it’s it’s you know it’s been a long time brewing. So uh pretty sure it’s going to it’s going to be special and hard at the same time for him. Uh you know for us we have we have other stuff to to worry about. So uh we definitely good to see him back and you know u but at the same time you have to maintain your focus. He chirps everybody. Do you think he’ll chirp his old teammates? Oh yeah. He’s for sure going to be all over uh uh he’s going to run his mouth and and uh uh yeah. Can’t can’t wait for the matchup. It’ be it’d be really fun and and uh maybe maybe he will be too two too nice. We’ll see. Oh man, I Well, I first time playing against Marshy, so we’ll see what he has to say. Um it’ll I I will be uh it’ll definitely send me a little back if he if he’s got some some chirps for me. Um that’ll feel like practice uh all over again. Um but I am really excited to uh to see him. you know, that’s a game that, you know, we got to go home and we got to get this right. So, we got to win that game. Um, you know, but after, uh, looking forward to giving a big hug. Will it be weird to see him in the other uniform? Yeah, it will be. Um, most definitely. Um, I’ve had so many amazing memories with him and an unbelievable friendship. Um, so yeah, when it’s all said and done, I can’t wait to, you know, meet up with him after and give him a hug. Now, Marco Sturm played with Marian briefly during his rookie season. and he was saying today that he remembers when he was with the Black Aces, those are the extra skaters that are called up uh in case there’s injury during the playoffs. He remembers thinking, “Who is this kid?” He’s acting like he’s been in the league for 10 years, he remembers that he was goofy in the room as a 21-year-old, but he said he worked hard and obviously he grew into the pro that he is today. And guys, I can tell you here at the Garden, we’ve seen number 63 jerseys, Bruins jerseys, and Panthers jerseys. Very strange. All right, Adam, thank you for that. I know you’re going to be back a little later on with Brick. You’re going to go over the tra trajectory of Brad Marshian’s career, but for now, we’re going to bring it back here in Studio Barry as we mentioned. So, let’s take a look at the Panthers and Boston Bruins record in the last four games. Both teams are winless, so both you’d hope are going to have some desperation. The Bruins made the game against Utah a close one, but ultimately Utah pulled away. Yeah, they have. This is a a fivegame road trip in Florida. This is the fifth game of that trip. They lost to Philly, Detroit, Jersey, and Buffalo. And of course, the Bruins had went on a tough road trip with three games in four nights playing the Iron when they played uh Vegas, and Colorado. And uh I think they had to adjust and they did play better in the Utah game, the third in that fourth uh four nights, but just not good enough. However, more importantly, getting away from the win loss, I think you have a blueprint of how to play the game with more responsibility, be better defensively, cut down on your turnovers like this that cost you goals against, stay out of the penalty box, keep the shots down under 30 a game, give your goalenders a chance and they’ll be fine. Yeah, the goalenders have been great. We’re going to discuss that later in the show. But as we take a look at the Florida Panthers and their losing streak, we said this against the Tampa Bay Lightning cuz they came into the Garden winless and they we said that was unacceptable for them. They knew that as a franchise, John Cooper was not having it. The Panthers are going to be the same. They’re going to Yeah, they are. But we have to remember they got a lot of their top players are out with injuries with Barov, Chuck, Nosik, and Kulakov. Just the four there. Those are four of their big studs that have helped them win the cup the last couple years. And this is a team that has a big rivalry with the Bruins as we know. And uh that in itself with the Marian Knight is going to make for one heck of an atmosphere. Yeah, absolutely. and we’re going to bring it to you as best as we
It’s a homecoming for Brad Marchand as the Boston Bruins take on the Florida Panthers. Sophia and Barry discuss Marchand’s return on Face-Off Live.
