Doctors later diagnosed him with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, he said, more commonly referred to as POTS, an autonomic condition that can dramatically increase a patient’s heart rate when standing up instead of spread horizontal. Handled wrong — or not yet diagnosed — and POTS can lead to extreme exhaustion or dizziness.
In his worst moments, Porziņģis’ heart rate could stabilize while he was lying down, but the act of standing up could rev it to 130 beats per minute.
“You know how people say, ‘Oh, I’m so fatigued.’ I’ve never used those words. I don’t even like to speak in those terms, but I really was like that,” Porziņģis said. “At that time, I could just lay on the couch and be a house cat.”
Today, Porziņģis is on a mission to prove he has the zoomies.

It’s a shame. Dude was arguably our 2nd most important player in the regular season, but come playoff time he arguably did less than Gordon Hayward’s time here.
Gordon Hayward: 14 playoff games for Boston – 10.0 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 2.6 APG
Kristaps Porzingis: 18 playoff games for Boston – 9.5 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 1.1 BPG
Zingis had one good moment against the mavs but we were winning that series regardless. Mavs had no business being in the finals.
I could never hate KP even before this news, he bled green while he was here and did his best, helped us win a ring
Hope he’s healthy now and figured this heart thing out, sounds scary
Shit, I also have POTS. It’s becoming more common post covid (never had it before I got covid). Sometimes you’re just standing at a concert, and next thing you know, you’re dizzy, your sight is fading, and then you faint.
Hope he and his team can figure out how to safely keep him on the court!
Makes sense why he was such a non factor late season.
He wasn’t healthy. Like, seriously not healthy.
Tried to give it a go anyway.
Random stuff like this is just another reason repeating is so hard, even if you return the “best” team.
Hope he gets it sorted out and returns to form.
I miss him already.
When the Celtics’ cap situation improves, I’d like to see KP come back just like Horford did.
That explains some things. Hope this is all behind him.
Loved his time in Boston; he genuinely seemed to enjoy himself. When he was on, the Celtics just clicked.
So weird. I feel like I had something like this later in the summer. My heart was all over the place and I had no energy.
we will always have one man to beat…
I get people being frustrated but people really became so hateful towards him in the end. I feel for him. Glad he finally found out what it was
How is he right now? Idk the severity but I hear heart and I’m always worried
He’s a pretty good player but the contract must be team friendly
KP will always be one of my favorites. His joy playing here was unmatched
Why was he getting minutes
Love our Unicorn! If you win a ring with the Celtics, you’re a legend in my book. He played through injuries for us at a huge risk to himself. Let’s give him a huge warm welcome on his return to the garden
That makes a lot more sense now
I have POTS too…I really feel for him, especially when I was first diagnosed it was hard to even get out of bed some days. And it’s a tough one to diagnose because you have to rule out a lot of other scary things first. I’m still not fully back to where I was before but it has gotten a lot better for me with time and I hope that’s the case for him 🤞
I want him back in Celtics green.
I have pots, it fuckin sucks
you just get up and nearly faint sometimes, super fun
Yeah I mean most rational fans knew he was playing at like 50% at best, it was obvious. Love him for playing through it all he’s always a Celtic in my eyes
Get healthy, KP. I absolutely love the joy u played with while wearing green. We will ALWAYS have game 1 of 2024 finals.
During Eurobasket it felt like he got back to his former self. We lost to Lithuania in 1/8, but he had some serious double double that game. So here is hoping they found a way to deal with that condition.
So he shouldn’t have been playing.
He was a fun Celtic. Nowhere near IT level fun, but he’s in that same basket of guys who captivated the fan base and were super fun to watch for a short period of time.
I don’t think this diagnosis helps long term for playing basketball.
