It’s Lottomax tonight. $25 million. Good luck. play alberta.ca where the Oilers are on the road tonight in Ottawa. Man, if there was a if there was ever a time to pick the over cuz the Oers haven’t hit the over very much. It’s 5 and a half. Think about it. I don’t know when the last time an Oiler game had an the line of five and a half. But just tells you when you can’t score that’s what happens. But God, it’s the Ottawa Centers. They’re averaging five goals against per game. They got to be at least six goals in this game tonight, doesn’t there? Like it’s got to be. You would think, but we’ll see. That’s That’s why they play the games. It’s fun. It’s unpredictable. You never know. So, I get there. Speaking of unpredictable and fun. Connor Howie, what did I say yesterday? I had a goal. I didn’t want to watch the game. I didn’t want to know the score. Now, when I got to the rink, one of my assistant coaches had the game on his phone, so I’m like, “That’s fine. Well, the boys are getting dressed.” So, I watched up until the point that uh Rodriguez hit the home run in the third inning. So, I knew everything that happened up until that point, which was fine. Then, you know, I had to start uh doing warm-up and focusing on the kids, get everything ready for the game plan. So, I didn’t watch anything else. When the game was over, I said, “Hey, I don’t want to know, so please no one tell me.” I had left my phone in my car. I got home, did not know the score of the game. Went downstairs, got on the PVR, allowed my son to stay up, watch it. We watched the game. And when George Springer hit a home run, needless to say, pretty excited. Now, it wasn’t it was live for me. That’s the wonders of technology in 2025. You could never do that years ago, right? You you either you had to see it or you missed out on it. That’s just how it was, right? Like if if I was, you know, if you’re at your kid sporting event back in 1985, the last time the Jays were in a game seven, how’ you how would you see it? You’d have to watch the highlights. That’s it. So it was uh it’s pretty cool to do it and uh and what a game it was. You know, you’re a little bit nervous, but when Barger got a walk, I remember saying, “Hey man, this barge is on. They got to do something.” Then they then uh I again kind all the guy does is extend rallies, gets things going. And then a great bunt. What a bunt. Like the small ball by the Jays that led to that. And I know that Springer’s going to get all the accolades as he should. It’s a huge hit. No question. Probably the second biggest home run in Jay’s history after Joe Carter. I can’t think of a bigger one. Like it it goes ahead of Jos Bautista now because Bautista the game was tied at the time and also it was game five and not going to the World Series. So I would put George Springer, you’re you’re behind. This puts you in front. Three-run shot. It’s huge. the the energy in the crowd probably the same but I I think in folklore the Jays that’s number two behind Joe Carter and but you when you look at Barger then you look at Ikev and Gimenez that bunt to get those guys in position now I know you say well Gregor if he didn’t lay down the bunt and just got an out doesn’t matter it’s still a three-run home run yeah sure but the point is to get a rally going and now you’ve got momentum now they got to change pitchers and George Springer who has a reputation for coming up big when it matters. I think that’s fair. And he did it again last night. Kza, when you watch that, are you thinking, “Oh my god, the Jays might win this game.” Well, yeah. And you know, you go back to the the Bautista hit. I totally agree. Carter, this one, and then Bautista, the inning that led up to it is what really made that so big. Like the fans getting so mad about the uh the Russell Martin throwing the ball back into the Rangers bat and they score a run on the play. Was it Odor? And you know that that made it really really tense. But yeah, it was absolutely massive. And you know, you talk about, you know, had they not had it been an out, it would have been the same thing. Well, hypothetically, let’s say Springer just pops that one to the center field, at least because of the bunt, now you have that runner coming in. So, I think it was a really big play. Although, you know, Gimenez has been a guy who’s been pretty clutch for you. I kind of wanted him to swing for the fences himself. But, yeah, it was absolutely bananas. Uh, goosebumps for sure. A huge moment for Springier and for the guy to do it, especially coming off, you know, taking the the ball to the kneecap like he’s swinging off one leg. We saw in game six, every time he’s swinging, he’s dropping down to a knee. Absolutely ridiculous. I’m sure he was on a few painkillers for that one, but yeah, that was an epic moment. Uh huge, huge for the sport. Well, it was massive. And now they got some time off. They enjoy it last night and you rest up and then uh we’ll get talking about uh game one on Friday night. Jay’s hosting the LA Dodgers. Should be uh electric. We’ll talk a little more in our number one about the Jay’s game last night. And hey, shout out to Mr. Hoffman cuz there was a lot of people that didn’t believe in Hoffman. He couldn’t have pitched better in the ALCS. The guy was unreal. Pitched five innings, had 10 strikeouts, gave up one hit, no runs. Unreal performance. And you know what? Last night got those guys chasing. They got they started chasing balls that look like they’re in the strike zone. They end up way out of the strike zone. Never really in trouble. And uh huge for him. I thought Bieber was solid, not great. He got out of the first inning, only gave up one. To me, I thought that was that was a benefit because that’s being kind of his Achilles heel is is that first inning. And so it’s very exciting time if you’re a Jayce fan. Like for me honestly, it’s like I’m going back in time. I got the Crashy Vice shirt on today in honor of uh turning back the clock a little bit because what’s great about that you have a whole new generation of fans who watch it last night, but I’m sure there’s tons of Jays fans who remember like I still remember exactly where I was when Joe Carter hit his home run in 1993. Well, a it was on my birthday, so uh was fired up about that. Cons. were celebrating my uh birthday with my hockey team. We’re out. We had a great time. We always joked about it, right? They’re like, “Yeah, I know when Joe Carter hit the home run, my birthday. Had great time out.” So, we’ll uh we’ll see what happens. Obviously, the Jays are going to be the underdog against the LA Dodgers. We’ll see what happens. The Jays can’t count them out. No team was better at coming from behind to win games than the Blue Jays. And they came from a two nothing deficit to win the series. a 3-2 deficit to win the series. Massive. Massive for them. It’s a great story. And uh we’ll see what’s what’s what’s difficult about it is you could like this season is still a massive success, but if they don’t win, some people like, “Oh yeah, they didn’t win.” And it still doesn’t mean the season wasn’t a great success. You got people excited. My question to you, Connor, is so Bob Bashett said he’s ready. That’s what he said. Now that could happen in a postgame. Who knows? Does he pass a test? Is he running? What happens? So Joey Lerido is probably the guy to come off the roster because San Dair, right? That’s who he took his spot. So I would think that’s the guy. You’re not you’re not taking IKF off the roster, are you? I just don’t I don’t think you can. Now maybe they’ll say, “Hey, you need you need another outfielder.” But Barger can play both. So I would assume it’s Joey Lopido. But my question is when you look at the lineup last night and the way IKF is hitting, I understand that you want to put in Bo Bashette, but are you putting in Bett to play shortstop and then you’re going to move move him to uh to second base and Clement’s going to play third and then who’s coming out? What happens then? Like where does Barger go? Is he in the is he in the outfield? Yeah, I guess he would have to be, right? Because you got Varo, then you’d have Barger, and you’d have Lucas. So, I guess you could do that. But I don’t know, man. Like, it’s it’ll be fascinating to see what they do. That’ll be a great debate for later on in the week. But, I’m just curious, Jayce fans, what would you do with Bashette? And like, do you think he’s only going to pinch hit? Because if he only not pinch hit, but DH. Well, if he DHes, then you got to play Springer in the outfield. Then you’re taking Lucas out of the lineup. like he’s been hitting really well. It’s tough decision. Barger’s been great ever since that home run. Cons, we called it in game three when he hit that home run. I was like that was the most important hit I thought for that guy and cuz his bat woke up ever since then. He’s been great. He was a huge contributor down the stretch for the Jays, right? Great eye to get to to start the rally by getting on with on base. So, it’s a good problem to have. Now, the Emmonton orders tonight. OR fans, as I mentioned, the uh the line is five and a half for an Oers game. Like honestly, I’d have to go back in time and look at how many times last year the Oders had a line of five and a half. There’s lots games and a half because they scored a lot of goals. But man, that is that is enticing. I’m going to have to put our uh $20 bet of the day at uh play alberta.ca. Just just take the over in the game. I would take it. So, five and a half. That is uh that’s a little surprising to me. I’m not going to lie. But the uh the Oilers, they come in and it’s not pretty right now. Oiler fans, it’s not pretty. And the the nonp prettiness isn’t in the areas that I know people get, oh, the defense. Oh, Steuart Skinner. No, no. I I I’ll just read you some numbers on why Oiler fans when you watch the game tonight, there is there’s some clear obvious areas they they have to improve, right? They’re not creating enough offense overall. Let’s just start there, right? If if you look at it, the Edmonton owners like here’s a small stat, but it’s very important. So, you can generate a rebound, that’s one thing, but then when you get the rebound, getting that rebound and putting it on net, it’s a total different category, right? So if I take a shot that creates a rebound, I still got to get that rebound onto the net. The Edmonton Oders are dead last in the NHL at half a goal expected per game on getting rebound shot. That’s it. They’re not generating any. Now I know they miss Heyman, so that’s a big factor, but they’re dead last. And a team like Colorado who you would look and say, “Hey, Colorado’s a skilled team.” You know what? They’re generating 3.6 per game. The Oilers are at half. Actually, less than half. It’s 42. Brutal. Not good at all. Even Lucky Bounces, they’re ranking 23rd where, you know, goes off a leg, off a off a stick, off a butt, whatever. And when you have guys in front, that can happen. In front of the net, their net front ozone, guess where they rank? 29th. And here’s where I know they’re struggling because the Oders have been one of the most dangerous, if not the most dangerous team in the NHL off the rush the last few years. They’re 28th in high danger chances off the rush trying to score offensively. 28th on this team. So that’s when you know things aren’t uh going very well offensively. And coach decides, you know what, he’s he’s loading up McDavid and dry settle. I don’t have a problem with it. Neither one of them I think is is filled with a boatload of confidence right now. Leon Drytle was very honest and it’s like man I’m just just not seeing I’m not feeling it. So put the two of them together. See if because you need you need them to get off the schneide. You just do. They’re the guys who are going to lead your team. They don’t have to carry your team but they got to lead it more often than not. And they’ve yet to lead the team in any game this season which is rare through uh through the first six games. Pod Coulson will play on their line. He’ll be the guy to just go get the puck for a check. Makes sense. Nan Hopkins is with Ross Levich and Mji Aani. Philp will center Seavoi and Frederick Henrique in game 1000 will be centering David Tamasic who comes back in the lineup as well as Ike Howard. On the back end, Echol and Bousard Nurse will play with Jake Walman. He’ll make his season debut. That should be a big boost on the back end for the orders. uh Kulak and Emerson and Stuart Skinner will get the start in goal. He’s five- one all time against the Ottawa Center. Skinner’s numbers, as Woodley outlined yesterday, you know what, they’re fine. They’re not great, but those if you those two little mental gaps and obviously the obvious one was in Calgary and then on on the third goal against Detroit where he slipped coming across, Woodley puts that as more of a mental gap. That’s one that not as not as it’s not as much of a brain fart as the Calgary one of course but other than those two if you take you look at that num Woodley was saying his other minutes which is basically like 98% of his minutes he ranks in the top 15. So he’s been fine. He just removed those big ones and he’s been great really is how you’d look at it. So he’s not great because of those but lot the majority of his time he’s been pretty good. Meanwhile the senators know Brady Kachchuck. He’s out for another 3 weeks at least. They got the redhot Shane Pinto who leads the NHL in even strength goals with seven and is tied for the league lead with goals overall seven. Hill center Amario and Giru. Dylan Cousins with Ba and Stutzler. Greg centers Pon and Cousins. Eller between Zetterland and uh Lixel Sanderson and Zub local guy. Uh Sanderson of course Shabbat and Jensen. And then uh Cleven and it looks like uh Matt and Paulo. So Spence who came over from LA looks like he’s going to be out of the lineup tonight for the Ottawa Senators. And Lenus Olark who comes in allowing five goals against per game will get the start in goal. Now I know what fans because we already got the text. Oh great, the Oders are playing a team that’s struggling defensively. Here comes a shut out. Uh well Dan, I like the consistency. I like it a lot. So now the orders eventually I think they’ll be okay but the longer it goes the just harder it is to to play catchup and you don’t want to play catchup that much. It just becomes taxing after a while, right? They they got a little bit of a break because Vegas, who’s already, by the way, Vegas is seven points ahead of the orders. Now, they played an extra game. So, let’s say Edmonton wins their game. They’re still five points ahead already last year. Now, they never caught them, but they were 17 points. Actually, no, 21 at one point last year. They were 21 points ahead of the orders. It’s too much to ground. Too much ground to make up. Can’t do it. So, the orders do, hey, if you want to win the division, you want to get home ice advantage, make it a little easier on yourself, you can’t dig that deep of a hole. Now, the only saving grace is that Mark Stone is now out week to week for the Vegas Golden Knights. He has uh 13 points in those seven games. It was playing unreal, but uh now he is out. Actually, he’s only played six games and had 13 points. even better for them. But uh so the Oders got to find a way to uh to get some wins now. Hey, I know the Oers are on the road. I know their schedule. I talked about it a lot. So the uh the Oilers, you got to get going here at some point. Like try to get their superstars having a pulse offensively tonight. That could lead into then you got Montreal at home on Thursday. Won’t be easy. It’s a long road trip. to come home for basically one game and then they’re back on the road for two more games. They got Seattle and Vancouver Saturday and Sunday. Back-to-back nights. Now, really not much travel between those two of course, but still it’s back-to-back games. And you know what? To me, the orders, you got to go 21 and one minimum this week in those four games. 21 and1 833 401440 83341440 Hey Gregory can’t tonight Buchard and nurse are being hot garbage if you’re focusing on Buchard and nurse you’re missing the plot of what’s the real hot garbage for the orders it’s being their team team Tam offensively okay that’s been the issue full stop. And and and what’s what’s funny about it for a team that’s not like Nurse is his production’s all right. A Nurse has had some giveaways. I don’t discount that for a second, but not at any higher rate than his previous years, in fact. And last year, he was actually in the had the fifth lowest on the team. So, it hasn’t been as bad as you think. Some people just dislike a certain player and when they make a mistake, that’s what you remember. But I’m telling you, the Oders offense stinks. Okay, it stinks. They’re dead last or bottom five in a lot of offensive categories. It’s not good enough. You You can if you want to deflect, deflect right away, but I’m not deflecting. I’m not doing it. I’m sorry. You’re wrong if your focus is, “Wow, nurse and Bard, let me scream at them.” No, that’s not their main focus right now. Can they play better? Sure. But if they play better, are they going to suddenly carry the offense? No. That’s the main problem is the orders offense. It’s the main number one problem. Okay, full stop. As much as you don’t like, well, Bard and Nurse, they’re giving away two. Do you know where the orders rank in goals against? They’re 12th in the NHL. 12th. Goals against aren’t killing them. Goals four is killing them. Or a lack of, I should say. That’s what’s killing them. take a quick break. Uh when we uh when we return uh we’ll go out to Ottawa. The Senators, no Kachchuck, they’re not off to a good start. They mean leaking chances. You know where they mean leaking? Off the rush, which is normally where the orders crush teams. So this might be the perfect mix for the orders to find a little mojo offensively. We’ll talk about it with Dean Brown. We got Thomas Hall. Studdy will be by in the 3:00 hour. Uh we got Spec. Dean, welcome back to the show, man. How you doing? I’m doing well, thanks. Well, Dean, quickly before, are you were you a Jay’s fan growing up? Are you a Jays fan now? Uh are you are you into baseball at all? What uh where’s your thoughts on the Jays for the first time in over three decades going back to the World Series? Well, I think it’s a great thing. It’s ignited the country as far as baseball goes and united the country. It is the only Canadian team. Um, growing up I was uh less into I grew up in the prairies, so I was less into Major League Baseball and more into the baseball that I grew up around in my little town. So, the senior men’s team in Warren, Manitoba was of more interest to me to be honest with you than any major league team. So, um, because my heroes were playing in in those games. So, um, you know, growing up in a little town, the best guys in your town end up being your heroes. So, but I think it’s great for baseball. I played competitive baseball when I was a kid and uh I think it’s a fabulous thing that has uh ignited the interest and it is something truly that I think people connect with coast to coast. Dean, did you ever hit a a game tying game-winning home run in your illustrious career as a kid? No. No. Of of the things I did in baseball, uh hitting big runs was not a part of it. I was not a very good I was not a very good hitter. I uh I primarily played third base and pitched and uh um I was not very good at the plate. As a matter of fact, at our junior A um dinner at the end of the year, the award I won had a bat with a hole drilled in it. So that was Well, maybe that’s cuz you were such a good pitcher that no one could hit it. Maybe that’s what they’re saying. Yeah. Unfortunately, I wasn’t that good of a pitcher either. You know, the irony is that Les Lazar, the wonderful voice of the Saskatoon Blades, we played against each other. He played for the Elmo Giants and I played for the Interlaid Blazers during our provincial junior baseball days. And now we’re both doing the same job doing playbyplay. Oh, nice. I like it. Um, speaking of playbyplay, let’s uh let’s look at the centers. You look at their numbers and uh you know, the defensive environment hasn’t been great. They’ve been giving up too many uh chances off the rush. And then their goalender, Kevin Woodley, we had on yesterday says, “Hey, it’s not a great environment for the goalie, but even he’s still below expected.” So, it’s it’s like a a double whammy. Your goalie is not playing as well as you would like, and your defensive structure definitely isn’t where they want it to be early on. Um, what what’s the coaching staff saying? Are these easy fixes, do you think? Uh, is it just big blunders? What’s gone wrong early for the Senators defensively? Well, I think right off the top it’s actually a a triple whammy because a big part of the bad defense has been how horribly the penalty kill is. They just got out of 32nd place and now they’re 31st in the league as far as penalty kill goes. The penalty kill has been terrible. The goalending has been good at times, but not enough of the time. And the goals that they have given up, the both goalenders have given up sometimes have been the kind that make everybody on the bench drop their shoulders. And as a team, they simply have not defended anywhere close to what they did in the last half of last year and in the playoffs. So I think for the coaching staff, you know, these are things that right now, you know, six games into the season, it’s no catastrophe, but if you’re 16 games into the season, you’re you’re searching for the panic button and you’re going to jam it with your fist. So you know, you got to deal with these things. And you know, here in town the last two days they’ve been talking about recommitting to um what the identity of this team is. And last year the identity of this team was a physical, hardworking team that is hard to play against and that could defend well. Um you know, and they have to get back to that and um there’s just there’s just no easy fix to it and there’s no way around it because this team is doing fine offensively. But as we all know in this league, you you can’t score your way to the playoffs. You have to defend your way to the playoffs. And this team right now, and it’s very early, but this team right now is not playing the kind of hockey anywhere close to the kind of hockey you need to play to be a playoff team. Uh the one guy who is is Shane Pinto. Seven goals, leads the league in even strength goals with seven. And you know, like he’s it’s an unreal start for him. What have you like from Pinto’s game? just the all round game. You know, he’s uh he’s been great in the faceoff circle. He has been great defensively. Ironically enough, last year on this team, he was the third line center and him and Ridley Greg and Mikeio were probably well, they weren’t probably, they absolutely were in the last half of the season and certainly in the playoffs, this team shutdown line. He played against all the best lines of the other team. You know, that that that’s what that that he and that line did and they were fantastic. And you know, I think I think part of it is, you know, he’s he’s bigger and he’s stronger this year because he’s getting to that age now where he’s getting his man strength. You know, that that that that line you go past, the players go past when it’s not not just about how much can you lift in the weight room. You kind of get that thick, heavy, you know, man strength. It’s kind of like the, you know, the the 18-year-old kid that can bench press 350. Um, you know, his old man’s 45 years old and his old man has never been on a bench, but still the old man could bend him in two. You know, it’s it’s the old man. It’s it’s it’s a man strength. And I think Pinto is walking into that part of his career now where he’s got that. It’s very hard to push off the puck. He’s just a physically a different a different kind of player. And the other thing is he’s motivated. He knows that there’s another contract coming for him in the next little while. And they’re already talking about, you know, expanding extending his contract. So, there’s that financial side to it. So there’s a there’s a bunch of motivators and um he’s getting opportunities and he’s taking great advantage of them. Dean Brown joins us. Yeah, he he has been good. The Brady Kachchuck loss is massive for a lot of reasons. Offensively, he’s very good for their team. He’s an emotional leader. He’s a physical leader for this group. I know it’s only been early, but now their offense really hasn’t taken a big dip yet, so that part’s good. But where do you think they miss Kachchuck the most? The personality of the team. You know, when DJ Smith was a coach of this team, he always used to say that, you know, Draady Brady drags guys into battle. You know, if guys just want to go out and have a game where they skate through the game and just, you know, put in time and try and win the game, but if you don’t, oh, shucks. Brady is the kind of guy that makes everybody accountable. And you you have to, you know, it’s it’s the old the old dog sled routine. You know, the pace of the lead dog is the pace of the pack. And that’s that’s what Brady is. And you know, Tim Stutza is the most skilled player on this team, but Brady Kachchuck easily is the most important player on this team. You know, on some on some teams, you know, the captain of the team is the highest draft pick or the guy who’s the best player, whether he’s a good leader or not. And a lot of not a lot, but many times, you know, there’s a marketing component to selecting the captain. In in Ottawa’s case, Brady Kachchuck is absolutely the captain and the leader of this team. The designation matches the role model and the personality. And when you don’t have that guy, uh, you’re a different team. And the thing I think is difficult mentally for the players on this team is they know how long they’re going to be without him. It it could be as much as two months, maybe even a little bit more. And so it’s not just that you’re missing him. You know, if you have an injury and they say it’s going to be this much time, but it could be a bit earlier, and you’re talking weeks. You know, it’s I think it’s a different mindset when you know that you know, the most important guy on your team is gone for two months no matter what. that, you know, I think that messes with guys minds a little bit and uh and there’s no question how important he is to this team in the things he does on the ice and the things he inspires his teammates to do on a nightly basis. Dean Brown joins us orers in Ottawa to take on the Senators tonight. Jake Walman will make his season debut. Adam Henrique, funny little stat, he’ll be the first ever player to play his career 10,000th game in an Oilers uniform. Now, Kevin Low did play a thousand games for the orers, but he had left and then he returned later to play over a thousand, but his actual 10,000th game. Did not come in an orders uh uniform, but Adam Henrik, first one ever to play his thousandth game in the NHL tonight. They had special shirts made for him. He’s from Ontario. He’s got a lot of family members coming in, so that part will be exciting for them. The uh the sends defensively, uh Spence, it looks like Dean not going to play tonight. How has he performed since coming over from LA? Uh he’s been okay. Uh you know, he’s been when when he’s been in, he’s done some good things that are, you know, that people like that the coaches like and there’s well in the last game he coughed up the puck that ended up being a game-winning goal. So coaches like that less. Um but you know in in the case of Ottawa, they’re in a situation right now with their sixd um where the coach is has the luxury of being able to select the options in that the two guys that are that sixth defenseman or would be that sixth defenseman are two very different players. Spence is a lot smaller but a far better skater and puck handler and uh Matt and Paulo Nicholas Matt and Paulo is far larger and more of a stay-at-home plant and be physical kind of defenseman. And so it’s given Travis Green the opportunity when they’re playing a team that is more, you know, speed, smaller forward, technical, you know, quick kind of game. He’s opted for the Spence option when they’re playing bigger, more physical teams like he played against, you know, Tampa and he played against Florida. Uh, then Matt and Paulo goes in. So, um, teams teams with bigger forwards and more likely to play a bit more of a physical game. Matt and Paulo is is often the option, but it it gives the coach uh for the first time for this coach actually it gives them a distinct difference in his choices about who he dresses for that final defensive spot. What about the uh the matchups? Is it automatically Sanderson that’s going to get the uh the McDavid dry settle at five on five tonight? Is that what you’d expect? Oh, yeah. I don’t see there being any question about that. And there’s no question that Sanderson is the only guy that can skate with McDavid. If if anybody can skate with him, it would be Sanderson. And I don’t know in a flatout race if Sanderson could beat him, but they’re in the same time zone. Whereas so many people in this league aren’t in, you know, McDavid’s time zone. He’s, you know, he’s a different guy. So Jay can skate well enough that uh he can he can shut down some kind of gap. But in this league, the reality is that no one can shut down gap if he gets ahead of steam. So, you know, Sanderson is going to be dependent his ability to have any kind of impact on McDavid. He’s going to have direct links to how successful Ottawa is in slowing McDavid down before he gets to his blue line because you’ve seen it a billion times. If he’s at full speed by the time he hits his blue line, there is no one in this league that can contain that speed. So, Sanderson will be the designated guy, but he’s going to need help just like every other defenseman in the league. I don’t think there is a defenseman that can take him on by himself. You need a forward to slow him down. You need a centerman to be able to box and contain him a little bit to keep him in, you know, normal human speed because if he gets that if he gets that step and he gets to full speed by his own blue line, you’re just you’re just rolling the dice. Yeah. No, that Well, the thing is that the orders right now their their big guns by their standards have been have been rather pedestrian to be honest. Leon and I know Leon drive has four goals, but even Leon says, “Man, like I’m just I’m struggling to find it. I’m struggling to feel it.” McDavid doesn’t have a goal yet and continually is in the slot and and is passing up shots. I’m not sure why, but obviously there’s some lack of confidence there. And so, you know, Ottawa is a team that struggled defensively. Edmonton’s a team that struggled offensively. And uh we’ll kind of see what gives tonight, Dean, which which one can, you know, get that part of their game going? Can Edmonton’s offense wake up or can Ottawa’s defense wake up? And probably whichever one does is going to win the game. Yeah. Yeah. I think that’s probably true. And I don’t have a crystal ball. I I don’t know. But I know in Ottawa amongst the fans, some of them are looking at saying, “Wow, they’ve lost three straight games. You know, they’re in a slump.” But most people are saying, “Oh my god, the Oilers are due.” You don’t want to be the team that plays them when they’re due. And you know, Ottawa’s that team tonight. So we’ll we’ll see what happens. But, uh, yeah, it’s it’s it’s a game that, uh, uh, some somebody’s going to both these teams walk in with various levels of funk going on in their game and somebody’s going to edge their way out of their funk. It won’t be completely neither team will completely solve their funk tonight, but someone’s going to take a big step out of the ditch and I just don’t know who. It’s very well said, Dino. So, we’ll see if the orders power play a generate some chances by uh getting some power plays and then burying them. That would be uh that would be good. Help their help their cause a little bit. And uh they they need something going offensively five on five for sure. Now, speaking of offense, defense, pitching, man, they had it all. It was a hell of a series. And last night, the Toronto Blue Jays a huge victory. Who doesn’t love a game seven, man? It had everything. Seattle takes the lead. Toronto ties it. Seattle takes the lead again. Then they extend it to three to one. And then you’re like, uhoh. And then uh Barger gets a walk. IF gets a single. Jimenez with a great bunt suddenly got two runners in scoring position. And George Springer, one of the most clutch playoff performers in MLB history, comes up with probably the biggest home run of his life. A three-run shot in the seventh. And the Jays hold on for a 4-3 victory. Uh Thomas Hall from Blue Jays Nation was at the game last night. uh joins us now. And uh Thomas, it was a hell of a series uh back and forth and this whole series win epitomized how the Jays won all year long. They got contributions up and down the lineup and and probably the difference was that maybe didn’t happen really throughout the regular season was Vlatty Guerrero was their best player in this series. No question. Without a doubt. Yeah, he uh he certainly put his superhero cape on and uh and helped lead the Blue Jays to victory here. He’s been doing it all postseason long. He’s been having the you know coming out party that you know everyone sort of dreamed of when the Blue Jays signed him as a 16-year-old 10 years ago. And uh you know there was a ton of bumps along the way, right? you had the the inconsistencies in the regular season um throughout the 22 23 seasons and you know the the playoff failures that this franchise has had in years past too and for all to end up in this position where the Blue Jays are just poor wins away from winning their first World Series title in 32 years and to have Latty as the face of the franchise um being a big part of it is uh is is very fitting for for this team. Yeah. Um it is uh it was fitting for them, you know, that they had starting pitchers coming out of the bullpen. Uh you had your closer in the series and there was a lot of people like ah they can’t win with Hoffman. Well, Hoffman uh shut up a lot of people in his performance in the ALCS. And I know, hey, being a closer you could have one bad outing and people remember it for a long time. But man, he was he was as good as you could ask for. 10 strikeouts in five innings, one hit. Like he did it all. and to strike out the side in the ninth inning holding a one-run lead. Uh, pretty impressive by him without a doubt. Yeah, I mean, just having Hoffman come out a day after uh he records a six-out save in game six, incredibly impressive. Um, it’s it’s a lot to ask of your closer this time of year, right? But this is exactly the situation that the Blue Jays signed Jeff Jeff Hoffman to a lucrative deal for. They envisioned him being in these types of moments coming through when it matters most in October. And say what you want about him during the regular season, the ups and downs, the roller coaster ride that was, he’s been ridiculously good in the postseason so far where he’s only allowed one run over seven and a third innings pitched. Yeah. Uh 12 strikeouts to only two walks. Like that’s what you want out of your closer. And it was really interesting too that um you know the Blue Jays had a many different ways they could have handled their bullpen yesterday. We didn’t see Brennan Little, right? Of course that was certainly a controversial um topic for this team in in that game five collapse. and to have them be able to go to Gau and Bath and and perfectly execute those moves, setting it up for uh Jeff Hoffman in the ninth inning and and for him to to strike out the side the way he did um really points to the confidence and just um you know I I I guess the you know the relentlessness, the um the never stay die attitude of this team. They’re just they’re never out of a game. They’re never out of a situation and and Jeff Hoffman like many of these Blue Jays on this team beautifully illustrated that last night. When you look ahead now to the World Series, Bob Bashette said in the postgame celebration, “I’ll be ready.” Do you believe him? So, I think like, you know, I I’m going to take Bo as at his word and um you know, but I think we still need to see him run the bases. That is the biggest hurdle that he still has left to clear and as of yet, he hasn’t been able to resume that uh that part in his recovery. Um, John Schneider said yesterday that Bo has been making significant progress behind the scenes and and really working hard to build up his swing and and um and and it sounds like it’s in a really good spot right now and um that that should speak volumes about his ability to come in even as a DH um and hopefully be able to contribute for the Blue Jays. But I’m really interested to see uh what uh the explanation is on Bo status when John Schneider and um some Blue Jays speak to us on Thursday. And you know that should give us a little bit more clarity as to where Bette is in his recovery. But I think even if he isn’t ready for Friday’s game one, I think there’s still um you know more of a reason um that you could justify having him on the roster even if he isn’t available in games one or even game two. Um I I think where he is even at this point in his recovery um he should be in a good enough spot to at least contribute in this series. Um, but that what that will likely be as a a designated hitter rather than a shortstop. Well, I I don’t think there’s any way you can play him a shortstop to start. I No, not a chance. I don’t think there’s any chance. So, I I think he’s a DH. Um, and it’s it’s probably for me as good as he’s done, I’m taking IKF out of the lineup and I would move Clement to second. Barger plays third. I’d have Springer then has now obviously Springer’s knee, but he’s got four days is the way he ran around the bases on that home run. I think George Springer can run the run the bases and and play right field at least to start and then uh you know you have Lucas, uh Springer and Vo in your outfield. Uh Barger, Clement, Gimenez and Vlatty and then Kirk of course a catcher and then you can you can have Bob Bashette as your DH. I think that’s probably if Bobette is playing uh to me I like Can you see any other lineup other than that to start game one? No, I think you you uh perfectly uh analyzed it there. Like I I I would see IKF being a being the guy who comes out of the lineup. I still think he’ll be on the roster. Um which you know likely bumps Joey Lido out of the mix, but they haven’t really used him at all since putting him on the roster for Anthony Santandere anyway. So you’re not losing much there. Uh um yeah, I I think Springer has been playing right field like all season long. A little bit of left field, but I think right field’s the spot where he feels more comfortable. And the great thing, too, is you have Miles Straw on the roster, right? So, you have George Springer out there for maybe seven innings depending where you are in the lineup and then you could sub him out for a defensive replacement. Um same thing with IKF. You can insert him into the game probably for Addison Barger. You move Clement back to third. IKF to second base and then you’re really able to maximize your best defense uh of defensive unit out there. Um but yeah, I I I think that’s probably how we’ll see the Blue Jays shake things out with their roster. Looking at the uh at the pitching, Thomas, uh the LA Dodgers, uh their starters obviously in the in the postseason have been uh have been very good to uh to put it mildly. Um, you know, a lot of people have the Dodgers as the favorite and and I can understand why um at this point, but you know, you got Blake Schnell, you got Yamamoto, you know, Showeoti, you know, even Glasno, like they got their pitchers have been very good. How do you think the Jays can get to them? And is is there one that you think like do they have a chance? Like, you know, Snell and Yamamoto both being unreal. And you know, even when Otani is in there, he’s he’s being fine. I think his RA is like under two and a half. So, um, are the now the Jays have been able to to just grind away at at at pitchers all the time on any team. You think they can do it against the Dodgers? It’s going to be a big test, right? Like you said, the Dodgers starting pitching has been fantastic this postseason. Um, even show like you know, him being their number four starter and him going out in game four against the Brewers and striking out 10 over six shutout innings and then, you know, also hitting three home runs as a hitter, too. Just ridiculous. But, uh, I do think like a as big of a tested as it will be for this Blue Jays lineup, they’ve hit good pitching this season, they’ve done it a lot throughout this postseason, too. And one of their biggest strengths is being able to adapt. And I think like we saw in this past series against the Mariners where in games one and two, you know, they they really looked more as an offense that wanted to elevate pitch counts for Seattle’s uh uh rotation. And Seattle starters just they don’t operate like that. They pound the strike zone really well. They don’t they don’t nickel and dime you, right? They’re they’re not looking to get hitters to chase. And so once the Blue Jays adapted to that, they started being more aggressive early in counts. And I think, you know, it’ll be interesting to see how they balance that out against the Dodgers pitching staff that is a little bit more, you know, catered to the Blue Jays style where, you know, the the Dodgers pitchers, their starters in particular, try and get you to uh expand the strike zone more, chase pitches outside the zone. And so I think, you know, if the Blue Jays can adjust back to that, having more of a a disciplined approach, but still being able to go out and and hunt pitches and and get their ace swings off, like they like to say, then I think they have a puncher chance against this rotation. And, you know, the Dodgers bullpen has been their Achilles heel all year. And, you know, if you’re able to knock out a starter early in the game, um, that could be the difference in this series. And that’ll be easier said than done against the talent that the Dodgers feature, but that will be one of the more fascinating storylines to follow in this World Series. You look at the Jays and now let’s let’s see the starting rotation. Gosman did pitch yesterday, albeit only one inning. Does he now pitch on Friday? Does do they go with the rookie in game one and give Gman game two? What do you think happens in the rotation? It’s it’s interesting, but I I do think they give Gauin an extra day to rest. Historically, he’s been better um on regular rest or even with an extra day of rest. So, like even yesterday, like that would have been more of an an increased intense um you know, mid uh bullpen session sort of thing. Um, but I I do think he probably goes in game two. Um, which would likely line up Trey Savage to to pitch game one on on Friday, likely against Blake Snell, which uh, you know, if that’s how it ends up, would be a great pitching matchup to start off the World Series. And I I would think Shane Bieber um they turn to him as their their road guy again like they did in the in the division series and the the CS where he’s the guy who starts game three on the road. And that’ll be a big start for him because uh he has he hasn’t fared all that well in the postseason so far outside of uh you know one start in one of the three starts that he made. So, um, the Blue Jays will certainly need a bounceback outing from him. Um, but I I I will be very interested to see what they do, uh, with Max Scherer and Chris Basset because both of those guys pitched extremely well in the roles that they had in uh, in the series against the Mariners. So, uh, I I wouldn’t be surprised if the Blue Jays stick with Sherzer in the rotation and and keep asset in the bullpen as a guy who can come out in any type of situation. Yeah. Yeah. Well, it’s going to be fascinating to see what they do. I think Sherzer’s probably earned himself another start uh at least. And you know, Chris Basset, I know it’s totally different, but man, he’s only pitched 2.2 innings, but he didn’t give up anything in the in the postseason. I think he’s probably a guy they use. What about Little? Uh I know that John Schneider is a big believer in, you know, giving guys redemption opportunities. I I would have to think that Little is is going to get a chance early in the series. And if it doesn’t go well, we might not see him again. Yeah. Like he he like you said, John Schneider trusts his guys and and um it’ll be an a different matchup here against the Dodgers lineup than it was against the Mariners because now you have lefties and show and Freddy Freeman, Maxy, a switch hitter and Tommy Edmond. They have some lefties off their bench that they can go to as well. So there will be pockets where the Blue Jays will have to either turn to Brendan Little or Mason Flu Hardy. And I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Little in a situation here earlier early in this series coming up that um he’s out there against Show and Freddy Freeman in that pocket. And if things don’t go well, then yeah, I would assume that he gets bumped down the pecking order and the Blue Jays try and elevate somebody like Mason Flu Hardy in that type of situation. But um they also have some right-handers who have good reverse splits and are effective against left-handed pitching too. Um you know, somebody like Jeff Hoffman is going to face that pocket of window. Sir, Sir Sir Anthony Dominguez as well and and Louiesie Varlin, too. He’s been a guy that has pitched a ton in this postseason where he’s he’s already appeared in 10 of the Blue Jays 11 postseason games. Um so I I think with his arsenal, he’s somebody that the Blue Jays um out of necessity perhaps will have to turn to in those types of situations. But um we’ll see. We’ll see if Brendan Little can have a bounceback outing because um you know during the regular season when his command has been on uh he’s been one of the best left-handed relievers in all of baseball at generating swing and miss. But unfortunately um over these last few weeks the command has not been reliable and as consistent as it was earlier in the year. So, um, when every pitch, when every situation matters so much more in October, you you don’t necessarily have the luxury of being able to throw a guy right back into the fire trying to work through his issues. Adam, thanks so much for this, man. I really appreciate it. Uh, enjoy the week and, uh, we will, uh, we’ll see the lineups and everything else, Thomas, when they, uh, when they come out on, well, maybe as early as, uh, Thursday. So, uh, we shall see. Just after three o’clock on a lovely Tuesday afternoon. Welcome back. It is the Jason Greger show as always brought to you by playalberta.ca where you can uh get in the game. Remember our uh our play Alberta wager of the day. I’m we’re going with the over man. Five and a half orers senators. Something’s got to give. The sends are giving up five goals a game themselves. Like at some point the got to score three goals, don’t they? At some point. You got to think so. So, uh, five and a half line to play Alberta. Gotta take it. Gotta take it. See anything else you like there? But, and, uh, if if I was going on an outright win, and I know the odds aren’t great, but the Washington Capitals, Seattle Kraken are playing their fifth game in eight days. They’re on the road again. So, I want to look at that one. Maybe the Caps by two. Just a thought. Check it out at play alberta.ca. Jason Strut is going to uh to uh, join us uh, in a bit. Goa.ca. The Edmonton Oilers. some uh we’re going to hear from uh uh well, let’s hear from the the gentleman who’s in a weird kind of way. It’s it’s a little odd to think that no player in orders franchise history has ever played their 1,000th NHL game as a member of the Oers. But tonight, that’ll change. Adam Henrik will play in game 1000. Now, he hasn’t played all his games for the orders, of course, but his 10,000th game will be in an orders uniform. Uh later this year, if he stays healthy, if he plays 79 games this year, Ryan Nan Hopkins will also play in his 10,000th game. And he’ll be closing in. Kevin Low has the franchise record of,037. Now, Low left and then came back in case you’re wondering why. Uh, wow, Gregor, how can you say a guy’s never played if Lo’s played a thousand? Because it wasn’t his 1,000th NHL game in the NHL. He did play a thousand games for the obviously uh not uh uninterrupted as he left and then came back at the end of his career. But uh Adam Henrik just talks about the uh the excitement and and also an opportunity to you know maybe be like geez I’ve accomplished something pretty good here game 1000 tonight for Adam Henrik. It’s been a fun morning. um you know the guys I kind of forgot about the shirts and that’s kind of a bit of a tradition and um so that was fun at breakfast seeing that this morning and Harry up to his old tricks with some videos and um all that sort of stuff. So other than that it feels like a normal day. Now uh what about those uh shirts that the uh the guys are wearing? If you haven’t seen them there there’s pictures of it online. It’s you know it’s got some highlights of his career first game when he was drafted. Uh, and then there’s it looks like there’s some uh I don’t know if he’s a if he’s a racing fan or not, Connor, but there’s like an ode to to NASCAR on his shirts. Oh, it was great. I I saw I kind of like I said, I forgot about it and I saw Savvy wear out the Red Bull logo on the back and I was like, “Ah, he must be a race fan, too, I guess.” And then uh and saw the rest of the shirt. So, again, it’s, you know, that’s what we that’s the best part of the game. um that camaraderie in the room and joking around with everybody and having fun and being lighthearted and um just the joy that that uh uh brings to the game and you know everybody in there and everybody a part of it. Yeah, I’m reading it uh right now if if you uh if you zoom in on it. Um, yeah, it just talks about when he was drafted by the Devils, when his first NHL goal was scored, then the first time he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks, then his first hat-tick, then he was traded to the Oilers, and now of course game 1000. And obviously, I guess the the shirt is a little bit of an ode. He’s a huge car racing fan, which I did not know. Um, today loves NASCAR and F1. So, uh, Brad Harrison, uh, he’s the one who comes up with a lot of these, uh, to have it. You know what? Remember the one they had for McDavid, uh, his 10,000th point. Um, that one was, uh, pretty good. Leon Dry settle, of course, will, uh, will score his 10,000th point, uh, later on the season. So, I’m sure they’ll come and and Duttle loves Chirp and his own teammates, so I’m sure he’ll have a lot of guys who want to have input uh, in that t-shirt, as they should. Uh, it’ll be fun. And uh Henrik just um you know what the you know an 82nd overall pick. He’s got the third most goals from his draft class in 2008. He’s the 10th player to play a thousand games. He’s ninth in overall points. And uh you know did you ever think like hey your goal is to play in the NHL and and he got to play in the NHL but you ever start thinking man like I’m going to get to a thousand games. It’s a pretty big accomplishment you know I guess like I mean early on you just kind of you want to get established right? you want to um be known as as become an everyday guy. Um and and I don’t think um you know like I’ve never been like the guy that I I felt and I’ve always tried to you know make sure I’m doing everything the right way and and like I said lead by example and and do what I have to do to to contribute and be difference makers every single night. Um, so it uh, you know, not for a long time really did it seem like it was coming and then kind of when it’s getting closer and closer, it’s uh, it’s a special thing. I’ve been a part of the ceremonies before and guys that have been there and um, you know, it means a lot to players to get to a thousand games. I played with a lot of guys that have been close and, you know, for whatever reasons it it’s you don’t get there. and um guys have had great careers and played less than a thousand games and guys that have played, you know, 14,500 games. So, it’s uh one of those special milestones, I think, as a player that uh that means a lot at the end of your career. Oh, yeah. I think it’s it’s a huge accomp accomplishment for him. Uh he’s an Ontario guy and I don’t I don’t I don’t think he was a Senators fan growing up, but it’ll be in his uh in his home province. So, have lots of family and friends there tonight. They got the t-shirt, so you know, he’ll be amped up. Uh I I would think that his line would get the start in the game. It’s game one. Maybe not his line, but he’ll be in the starting lineup. Like, usually a coach is like, “Hey, man, read the room. It’s uh let’s put the guy in game 1000 in the starting lineup.” It’s kind of a no-brainer. Your teammates want it. The the player wants it. They’re they’re like little kids. You still get excited. There’s just something unique about getting to start a game. So he uh it wouldn’t be surprising to me if he does it. Uh now we’ll hear from uh head coach uh Chris Knobblock. It’s a game 1000 for Henrik, but it’s game one of the season for Jake Walman and a much needed addition on the back end. And Knobblock talks about Walman returning and what he’ll add. But uh I think we’ve been having difficulties just transporting the puck up ice and you know that’s just not on our defense or forwards. But I think he’ll be able to help with that, whether it’s making a first pass or skating it out. So, yes, it’s nice having uh Jake back. Oh gosh. Yes. And what about the uh the boost that your team can get not only from Wman’s return, but also coinciding with Henrik’s 1000th game? Yeah, it’s very exciting having um you know, moments in the season where you can celebrate. Uh right now we need a little um a little bit of excitement and this being a remarkable day for Adam Henrik and being able to be part of it. You know, Adam’s been you know, for him to play a thousand games um you know, not many players get to do that and um hopefully that we can um you make it memorable for him. Well, yeah, they would like that. and um uh his thoughts on Stutzler. What’s as an opposing coach, you watch a player obviously with Brady Kachchuck out now Shane Pinto is redot he has seven goals on the season but you know Stutzler is probably their most skilled player. Uh Henrik or sorry Knoblock shares his thoughts on Stitz. Um very dynamic player. Um you know very um fast powerful dynamic with the puck. um difficult to check whether you put speed on him. You know, he’s I believe he’s strong enough that he can outmuscle a guy. Um but a strong guy on him, he’s going to use his speed and beat him that way. So, I think he’s very um difficult to check and just because of his versatility and uh his team and their ability to bounce back. It’s been three games and it’s really been three games where they haven’t played very well and I would argue even four games. Steuart Skinner stolen the win in New York. These first four games of the road trip have not been good. How confident is the coach that his team can bounce back? Um I think uh you know my time here and just a lot of respect for our players, our team, how they’ve been able to just let things go. Obviously when you’re losing games it’s never fun. Um but um you know they’ve always been able to bounce back and not get too caught up in the moment. Um, so you know, I expect us to continue that theme. We’ve got a lot of new players with our team, but uh, obviously our our veterans are leading the way and kind of setting the vibe for the team and, you know, I just want us to, you know, focus on the now and, uh, start playing, you know, better hockey. And we’re just kind of, you know, each game’s been a little bit different, what’s gone wrong, whether it’s been special teams or our defensive play or just not enough offense. Um but we just got to you know simplify it and um things will work out at when you work or make sure the things that are important get done well. And uh lastly as a coach who coached him in Junior, I don’t know if he’s ever seen him um in in this much of a and I know he’s got points of people say Gregory he’s not in a funk. I don’t I think anybody who watches McDavid in these first six games it might be the least dangerous. I think I’ve seen McDavid in a sixgame stretch in a long long time where I really haven’t seen him, you know, get the defense on their heels very much off of the rush, which is normally his bread and butter. So, as a coach who knows him well, is how can you tell when or if a breakout is coming from McN? Yes, I assume it, you know, it’ll be sooner than later. Uh but uh you know Connor’s had a lot of chances and whether goalies make good saves or just um you know have maybe more of a pass first mentality. Um we’d like him to shoot because obviously he can score goals with the amount of goals that he’s scored in his career. Um you know I think just with our team in general we need to simplify and part of that is just um having a shot first mentality. Well yeah shot first mentality. We’ll see 97 going to shoot the puck. It would be nice if he did it, especially if he finds himself in the slot with some time. Shoot London. That’s what I would be saying. Mix it up a little uh French and English for him. Get him thinking. Away you go. That’s what uh that’s what I’d be doing if I was No, I know it’s odd to say. It’s like Conor McDavid, best player in the world, but guess what? He’s not the best goal scorer in the world. He’s had one great season scoring goals. And guess what happened that year? He shot the puck a lot. So, keep it simple in the slot. Open look. Shoot the puck. Stop passing to Troy St. like I’ve seen three guys pass off good chances. Troy freaking Stetcher. I know he’s really, you know, popular in the room. Guys love him. Scrappy guy, but I’m sorry. Troy Stetcher is not the guy I’m passing up a great opportunity to. Now, if I’m in the slot and you know what, if all of a sudden it’s Austin Matthews or Leon Dry said, “All right, okay, I can see why you may be giving it to him.” But it’s Troy Stercher. Oh, it’s Troy Stetcher’s probably himself saying, “What the hell you doing passing to me? Shoot the puck.” We’ll come back. Jason Strudwick will join us. What’s Wman going to add? I’m not a huge DJ guy. I mean, I guess if you hand me a couple glow sticks and a tight white t-shirt that I can get wet, maybe I’d be into it. Struds on. There’s a lone steakhouse I used to go to down in Kentucky and had bowls of peanuts. I wasn’t sucking on those ones, you know? I mean, you need to have clean nuts. I’m talking about the kind you get in a bag at an Elks game. You know what I mean? It’s time for Struds On. Strutddy, how you doing? I’m great. How you making up, buddy? Oh, I’m pretty good. Uh we also uh welcome to the show it’s like a double intro. Uh Terry Ryan is also uh joining us now. TR, how are you doing? What do you have? I’m doing all right. Now, strategist, wait a sec. Do you know how to play chess? I see you have some chess pieces in the background uh on there. And by the way, that’s like a whole new setup you got there. Whole new set. Yeah, I I raided a few grad sales in the neighborhood this summer and uh did it up properly. Uh no, I’m not I mean I I play chess. I wouldn’t say um I’m a master at all. Uh probably below beginner, just past beginner, below average. All right. No, no pictures of yourself in there. I see. There’s enough of them around the house. The wallpaper. It’s true. It’s true. Um give me your thoughts. Uh what is what is going to be the biggest addition that Walman brings to the back end? Just the puck moving. You know, I think that, you know, you look at something, you look at Bashard has no points. Uh what’s his name? Ekholm has one and I think Koulak has two. Those guys both got their points uh I think last game. So they had three guys without any points. And I always felt that when you can transition that puck up, whether it’s neutral zone or your own zone quickly up to your forwards, that fuels their attack, that fuels their ability to get going. And one of the things we’ve seen, you know, especially the last couple games is just, you know, especially the Witter’s top guys, you know, they’re not they’re not playing so much north south. They’re trying to go east west. You know, they get the blue line, they’re trying to force a pass through the middle and the Red Wings are all there. You’re not challenge them with speed, not not using, but um it’s just north south hockey. I’m not talking about unskilled hockey. But if you look at Leon Dryidle’s goal Gregor at the end there, uh Koulak comes with speed over the blue line, chips it in the corner, gets the puck back, chips it to to uh McDavid up to I think it was Echol over back to Koulak back door dry settle that happens so fast and it’s just so quick because you’re in the offensive zone. So Wman is going to help fuel that transition up the puck up with the ice going up quickly and get their offense going better. The Owners offense has not been good, Studdy. I outlined it in the first hour. You know, they rank in the bottom five of pretty much every offensive category really at this point from actual goals to expected goals. High danger chances off the rush, which is normally their bread and butter. They’re not getting any second chances on rebounds or actually dead last in that department. And without Heyman, I guess I understand it, but that doesn’t mean he’s the only guy that that can get a rebound. Um, what do you make of the offensive woes? And is it just too easy to say, “Well, eventually McDavid and Dry will get going.” They got to do something to get going. They do. And I I just, you know, you could say the right thing and and want to have a good start, but I can only imagine what it’s like to lose a Stanley Cup and come in and just be, you know, thinking, man, we’ve got a long ways to go back. And now this is the third year in a row where we’ve seen this from from the team. And so, you know, best of intentions, okay, we’re going to be better. And yeah, I I I get it. But the reality there’s very little urgency in anyone’s game when you when you look across the orders, you know, that let’s look at their top players. I think Buchard is urgency hasn’t been there. I don’t know that Connor Leon has it. I think Na’s had some of that. Heyman’s out right now. Um, you know, Nurse Ekhome, you know, again, the level of urgency just isn’t there. And I think they’re coming off a, you know, a summer that didn’t get what they want. So, it’s going to take a little bit of time to get them going, but I think getting back to just quick, smart hockey is is the quickest pathway forward. And and those outline some things I talked about. Get the puck up, get into their zone, play in their zone, move quickly, try to make quick plays, you know, trying to be fancy and and to use Brett Kulak’s uh comments to paraphrase, he said, we’re kind of trying to be cute and going side to side. That’s East West hockey. That doesn’t work. That’s not what the orders are built on. um at least not to start the games, not to push teams back. Brody, just curious. Uh taking a little left turn here. What did you think of the Tom Wilson hit? Did you think it was late? I didn’t mind it at all. I mean, I I watched the broadcast and right away that’s a head shot. That was their first reaction. And I get in real time, you can see that, but if you look at it, it was shoulder to chest. And he absolutely rocked him. Absolutely rocked him. Now, you know what’s what’s late? one Mississippi, too. It was pretty damn close to one Mississippi and he let him have it. So, no problem with that hit. That’s the hit I do want to see in hockey because there was nothing to the head at all in that moment, boys. I agree. Anthony Stolars, did you see anything wrong with his comments uh after the game or I mean obviously they were a little bit out there, but what did you think of them? I mean, there’s two sets too, right? at first talking about getting run and then he’s talking about I think specifically willing Willie Knander and backchecking in overtime. What did you think of it? Well, he didn’t call Willie out, but I mean he said if you’re going to be out there in overtime, you better work hard to get back up. And it’s clear Willie Knander got beat up the ice by Josh Mahura and that should never happen. Like it’s and I get it. It does happen, but he could have been there. He could have made a play on the puck and he didn’t. So, you call him out. I don’t love that he called him out in that moment. It’s it’s just a few games in. I and I wonder did he say anything in the dress room immediately after? Like did he walk in and snap and say, “Hey, really you got to back check more because it didn’t it took, you know, 10 minutes and he was saying it to the reporters.” So if you’re going to say it to the reporters, I think you better have the courtesy to say to the face, have it out if that’s required. If not, at least let the know the player know what you’re thinking and feeling before you go and address it to the nation. Yeah, I’d like to think that he uh he said something privately first. Otherwise, uh that will uh that will not go overly well. Uh unless it was something that was built up a long time coming, I have no problem. Teams got to stand up for each other. I I I think that’s kind of a no-brainer. I don’t There’s certain rules of thumb that if something happens, it’s like guess guy, closest guy, I don’t care. Guess what? You go in there, that’s just a rule. And uh when it’s your turn, maybe on the receiving end, someone else comes in for you. That’s I think good teams have that. You know, Florida’s always had a pack mentality. Edmonton’s had it a little bit last year. this year. I don’t even know. Like we joked about it yesterday study the Shawn Brown said he goes, “I don’t even know if you need linesmen in the order games because there hasn’t been a scrum.” Like they got get some emotion going right now. Yeah. Yeah, they could. I mean, we saw the hit that Regula got by Kane and and I think it was was it Philip and Kulak jumped in there um just to get it going. But you’re right, there hasn’t been a lot of emotion in these games. And I and I can kind of see a little bit from the guys that have been here, but you know, Mapani is he he’s known for a little bit of that. could he not maybe spark something up? Um you you’re looking at a guy like Trent Frederick. Sure he was there for last year but could he play a little bit heavier and kind of get things going and make other teams retaliate to him and get some energy going because I think right now it feels like the others are stuck in like third fourth gear as a group. Um you know and the young guys you could yeah Matt Seavoy could score or Howard or Tomasik but these guys combined have like you know five games in the NHL and you’re asking them to be the leaders offensively. I think that, you know, there are guys on this team that can play heavy and they can get get teams looking at them and just create emotion in a game because as a player, you know, when your team’s flat and you could tell then, you know, I try to go get in a fight or get something going and it’s easier. It’s, you know, you not everyone wants to do that and now there aren’t many people that want to do that or are able to they’re interested in it. But there are other ways, you know, driving the net, stopping in front of the blue paint just for no reason. Just getting after someone, making them having a bad day, get some emotion going because there’s not a lot out there. Brownie is 100% right. Yeah. Um, looking at uh Studdy, the Kenan is out now six weeks. So that will uh you know that I guess he’ll go on the IR eventually. And so that that allows the orders more time. They don’t have to send anybody else down or anything like that. when Heyman comes on board, that’s when some decisions will have to be made. So, there’s basically still like a a sixgame try out for some of these guys to to maintain their spot on the roster in six games. There are. And I I think there’s one that’s clear. I think Ike Howard, you know, he needs to go play in the miners. And, you know, I have no problem whether it happens tomorrow when they when uh when they get home tomorrow before the Canadians game or if you want to wait till you have to make the choice with Heyman because he’s learning here. He’s seen what the NHL is like and that’s all part of development, right? This isn’t a guy that was played 30 games at theers last year. This is a guy that was in college last year. They want him and and he wants to see probably what it looks like to travel around to be with the NHL team, but I think he’s the one that that that should go down to help grow his game. After that, there’s a bag of dog fight. And you know, Tomasek, you know, there’s a lot of things I like about his game. I just worry can get around quick enough. Now, he’s smart and he makes plays, but when Heman comes back, does he get on the power play anymore? you know, are you going to take a guy who scored 54 goals in the NHL off for a guy that doesn’t have a goal yet in in this opportunity he’s got. So, you know, he may be a guy that’s fighting for his life in there. Um, so, you know, Philip, I’d like to see him get more regular opportunities. Um, because I think they need that guy to to to develop and grow. They need players to come in and and develop. So, I think one is very clear and the other’s still TBD, but I’m starting to get my feel about where guy should end up. Struty, give me your thoughts on the Jay’s game last night. You know, that team, Gregs, I I just I love watching that team. I love the individual parts and I love the way they interact with each other and the way they support each other. That bench is, you know, guys aren’t sitting down. They’re up on the edge and, you know, they get down 3-1 like, okay, they they go to Gossman. All right. Then they go to Basset and eventually Hoffman gets it done. But George Springer, uh, we’d all written him off. I he had a bad year. He’s on his way out where he’s barely going to finish the year. Well, he just hit, you know, this probably the second most important hit of Blue Jay’s history last night and blew the lid off that place and we could hear it thundering here in Alberta. So, I love that the the way they play for each other, the way they support each other and it shows. So, yeah, is it a big fight against the Dodgers? Sure, it is. The Dodgers are a really good team. They’re they’re massive uh favorites, I would say, in this one. But the Blue Jays, I think they have a puncher chance because they are such a team first mentality. They don’t care who gets it done. They just want someone to win. TR, what about you? What did I think of the game? Oh, yeah. Oh, god. I mean, I I loved it. I’m really into it. I brought back memories when when the first time they they won, I was in Vernon playing tier 2. I’ll never forget. Do you remember where you were, Strutddy? And how about you, Gregs? Oh, yeah. It was my 20 when Joe Carter hit his home run. It was actually my 21st birthday. We were uh we had a real big uh we had a party planned with all my buddies uh was playing hockey with. So that was uh we were all watching the game at TC’s house and uh then we went out afterwards. Had a hell of a time. So yeah, it made it a little bit more special for sure. I’ll never forget it. Scott, yeah, I don’t know. I don’t really remember. I I guess I think I was at my buddy Cam Tidvall’s house probably. Um, but I just remember the the reaction of Joe Carter and like those moments are so few and far between where you are the reason that your team wins and I one I keep thinking about all the time because I watch it was when Jason or not scored the overtime goal for the Devils to win. Another was Patrick Kane against Philadelphia Flyers. Um, now I recognize those ended the game. This one, you know, did end the game eventually, but was in that moment. But as an athlete to have that moment uh in your city uh and you’re immortalized forever like Springer’s name will be it is tattooed now forever on every Blue Jays fan’s lips just like it is Joe Carter. Well, what’s interesting about the game, guys, and my young son had pretty astute points where this morning he’s talking about, you know, Dad, baseball’s longer and it seems at times it’s slower, but there’s bigger moments baseball game. And it’s true because he goes like he goes like George Springer hits that home run, he goes when when someone scores a goal in the second period, yeah, it’s nice, but you can only ever get one goal, right? Like if you’re trailing by two, you can’t hit a three-run goal. You just can’t, right? So, it’s different. And and that’s that’s what that’s every sport has different things that makes it exciting, but that definitely is what kind of makes it unique in baseball. It’s a 3-1 game to start the inning. You get a walk, you get a single, you get a sacrifice bunt, and then Springer a three-run bomb, and suddenly you go from nervousness and people biting their nails to going crazy and hugging strangers and, you know, chugging beers in literally a matter of five minutes. Like, it’s wild. 22, you know, um, over the last time it happened, I remember I I only remember like spec I know exactly where I was. I was in a hotel room with the Vernon Lakers. But it’s funny, there’s only so many things, usually hockey, but not always. And I it’s like a I’m wondering why only certain things stand out. But the the great thing about last night is, you know, I’m down on social media a lot, but I mean, there’s a lot it’s good for. It really did feel like a together moment when when you’re on there kind of watching your social media, watching it with buddies from all over for me, not only the province, but or the country, but the world. And it, you know, it’s it’s you’re experiencing together. It felt like a great moment for Canada. Yeah. And I think we’ve overlooked the the contribution of Hoffman the last two games. I mean, there is a lot of angst when he went when he goes to anyone any one of those games. People are pretty nervous. But I mean, the last three innings he’s pitched were incredible. on that last three. I mean, to to go in there and to play or to to pitch like he did aggressively and go after the batters, really really confident. So, I think that’s important for him moving into the next series as well. Well, really, if if you look at at his whole six games in the playoffs, he’s only allowed one run in uh in his six games. He is his he has been actually outstand he’s got a 1.23 two three erra in 12 strikeouts in seven and a third innings. Like I know obviously that the in this ALCS was good, but it wasn’t like he was really that bad. It’s it’s funny. I Hoffman to me is what Bart is to some people when he made oh walked a guy gave up the hit. Oh, he’s terrible. I can’t do anything. Meanwhile, he’s you know he’s got a lot of saves and in the postseason he’s been excellent for the James. Yeah. And they’re going to need it. I mean, they’re going to need, you know, you’re looking at this matchup, I think both teams, you could say their Achilles heels would be their bullpens, and that’s probably most teams. They go far, but um, you know, though the winners, uh, the Blue Jays got to get past the starters for the Dodgers. They they’ve got good starters. If you can get to their bullpen, I mean, against Seattle, how many what was the deepest guy? Maybe four or five innings that the that the pitcher went for Mariners. So, they have to try to do the same against the Dodgers. get to their bullpin uh and then let the depth of the Blue Jays hitters um you know make kind of take take their toll on those guys. Strutddy uh what do you think uh Oilers tonight? Um can their offense Gez if you can’t score against the worst offensive team in the league? Maybe the offense is really bad like sometimes you know this might be the alignment for the Oilers to get off the schneide offensively. Yeah, that is it is true and I think that we’ll see a very direct type of hockey from this team today. um speed, tempo, take it deep, get in there, you know, crash and low to high, east, west, all those types of things. I think that when the others are at their best, uh they they do. So, I’m looking forward to this game tonight because, you know, coming back one and four would be pretty tough one. Then you’re looking at it Thursday, you’ve got a high octane team in Montreal Canadians. So, I’m not saying that’s not a winnable game, but you know, you win tonight, then you come home, you’re feeling good about yourself, take care of business Thursday. What’ll be a really really energetic game at home. Awesome. Thanks for your time, buddy. We will uh chat with you next. See you boys. There you go. That’s Jason Strick. Kappa is out six weeks, but Jake Walman returns to the lineup. Uh Troy Cetra comes out. Walman will play with nurse. David Tamasics back in for captain. He’ll play on the line with Henrik and Seavoi. Dry settle is going to play with McDavid and Pod Coulson tonight. And Adam Henrik will play his 1,000th NHL game. First player ever to play his 10,000th game as a member of the Edmonton Owners, which is uh kind of unique. So uh they’ll have some fun with that tonight. And uh if everything goes to plan and he stays healthy, Ryan Nan Hopkins, his 10,000th game would be on New Year’s Eve at home against the Boston Bruins. So keep that uh could be a big ticket on a New Year’s Eve night for those of you who who like to plan ahead. We’ll see how it goes. Let’s get to uh five questions now. Brought to you by the Brick, saving you more furniture, mattresses, appliances, and big screen TVs. It’s the brick andthe brick.com. [Music] It’s time for five questions on the Jason Greger show. All right, guys. As per tradition, let’s get your prediction for the Oilers in 10 night. And we can throw in a bold prediction as well. I’m going to say 52 Oilers. McDavid gets three, including an empty net. Woo. Um, I think I have the uh the orders. Finally getting a win on the road. I think I had 43. Uh, bold prediction. Well, Noah Phelp came out, actually Curtis Lazar came out of the press box, scored in Ottawa. Noah Phelp came out of the press box, scored in Detroit. So, David Tamasa comes out of the press box and scores in Ottawa. Question number two, as a whole, what have you thought of the Oilers new the offseason acquisitions so far this season? Uh, it’s a good question. Um, none of Well, it’s hard when when none on the team has really uh has really stood out by any stretch of the imagination. None of them have been poor. Mind you, Pony, hey, had two goals in the first two games. But guess what? He has no shots. He’s only had two shots all year and they both went in. And for a team that can’t score and for a guy who’s played a lot of its minutes in the top six, how the hell do you only have two shots on goal? So that one Noah Phillips probably being the best newcomer, although technically he was here last year, so I don’t even know if he would count. U you know, Tamasic, I like parts of his game for sure. He’s been all right. Like Curtis Lesar scored a goal in his one game. Granted, it was 3 seconds left in a 53 loss. Um you know, Rosovich, h he’s been all right. Um I like the speed of Seavoy. You know, Howard’s been okay, but you know, neither one of them have really done a lot. So I don’t know if anybody’s jumped out at me. What about you, TR? Nah, like you just said, peppered. Each player that you just mentioned, their play is peppered with ups and downs. More ups probably, but nothing that stands out enough to call it out on on that question. I I think they’re going in the right direction, but there’s just too early of a sample size for me. Question number three for you guys. If you were ranking the top five players participating in the World Series, so both Dodgers and Jay’s roster, what would it look like one through five? One through five. Oh god. Well, I probably put Guerrero at number one even though Otani had that big game I don’t think before that, but whatever. One and two. Guerrero, Otani, Springer, Freddy Freeman. I’m ignoring pictures. And uh I I have to say Clement. I mean, you would have to, wouldn’t you, if you’re on that side, look, we’re just taking it for granted, you know, because it’s a nice story, but someone on the other side must be looking and saying, “This guy’s hitting almost 500 in the in the playoffs.” I mean, so I’m putting him there for with an asterisk, I suppose. Yeah. Um, like Otani had the one huge game obviously with the three home runs. He’s only hitting 220, funny enough, in the playoffs. Like, what was he doing prior to that? A whole lot of nothing. Uh, really. But he is, if I’m just talking best players, he’s number one for me because no one does what he does hits and pitches like he does. It’s wild. I agree. Vlatty is number two for sure. Um, Smooky Betts is uh he’s a pretty good player. Um, for me, um, it’s kind of hard to overlook the pitchers and I will uh, you know, the Dodgers the Dodgers might have the three best pitchers if you go from starters to closers combined. I know that Trey Savage is a great story. don’t get me wrong, but he he doesn’t have the the resume of a Blake Schnell. So, I got to put uh I got to put Chanel in there right now. And Yamamoto’s had a ridiculous season. Same as Suzaki. So, yeah, I probably would uh I I maybe I’ll put it as a tie for uh Yamamoto and Sasaki as the number five guy. Question number four. NBA season officially gets going tonight with two games on the schedule. Who’s your pick to meet in the finals this year? Well, I’m sticking with uh OKC. I don’t uh I don’t see any reason not to uh not to like them. Uh they’re young. Their team is very good. I think the East, that’s the great question. The East is wide open. Like absolutely wide open with the uh the injuries that the Pacers have. Their best guys out. Like that’s I think that ruins any chance of them to to get back. Um obviously the Celtics are still the Celtics. So I I I think they’re legit team. Um, I’m gonna go I’m gonna go Detroit as a shocker to get to the fun. I’m gonna go New York Knicks and OKC. The Knicker boxers. I don’t mind that pick actually. I don’t mind that pick at all. Cons, what about you? Yeah, hard to go away from OKC. I I I kind of like TR’s pick with the Knicks. I mean the in like Tatum, you know, the Hallebertton, like there’s a lot of injuries, like you said, Greg, all those Achilles popping. So, I’ll go Knicks and OKC. Uh, probably not the most original one. Uh, final question for you guys today. It is Judy Judy Shinland’s birthday today, otherwise known as Judge Judy. So, my question for you guys, because this is a program I could never get into, I just felt like they were arguing all the time along with all those shows, but are you a fan of Judge Judy or The People’s Court? Judge Joe Brown, Judge Matthysse, any of those shows. I got to be honest, they’re up there in my frontal lobe somewhere. There’s memories because over the course of my life, daytime TV, I guess, whether it’s at a billet’s house or my parents, my mom’s into it. I’m not into any of it whatsoever. I don’t care. It’s going on all day long in every city. I don’t watch reality TV for that reason. Very few and far between. Uh so I I really just don’t care. Now, if I am going to give a a judge shout out to a judge TV show, it will be mock trial with Judge Reinhold in the Arrested Development season 3 series. In the best development series season 3, mock mock trial with Jay Reinhold. There you go. That’s that is a good one. Um Oh, yeah. Cons. I am a fan of none of them. I’ve never watched People’s Court. I’ve never watched Joe Brown or uh or Judge Matthysse uh uh at all. Um the the only uh the only court like if I have to go with uh with my uh my my favorite I I would have to go with uh with Nightcourt, right? Uh way back when in the in the 80s was a was a huge fan of uh of the original. Not not the one that came back in like 20 with John Larette and uh like that second one. No, I’m talking the original 1994 uh Judge Harold T. stone. So that would be my judge of choice. That’s why I got into Mel Tormet. He was a big Mel Tormet fan. I said, “What’s this all about?” And I still got a few records there. There you go. I like it. That is uh that is nice. TR, what’s your thoughts on the orders tonight? And will their offense wake up? Yeah, I think it will. Honestly, it really didn’t look to be clicking. I’m wondering about the ice on that eastern seabboard. I don’t know cuz did it not seem like the puck was blowing up all over the place on people’s blades? I I mean I don’t know what else to attribute it to early in the season, but it really to me the jersey game was the worst off the boards. It wasn’t just the Oilers, it was both teams. But regardless, it’s early. The the things that the Oilers aren’t doing very well are all things that I know is going to come. So, I’m not really worried at all. I think it’s just early season jitters. All right. Well, TR, have yourself a lovely Tuesday. We will uh we’ll talk orders and uh we’ll talk your favorite team, your original team, the Montreal Canadians, when they uh come to town on Thursday. Copy that. Thank you, Jason. Thank you, Connor. Thank you, Edmonton. And we’ll chat in a couple of days. There you go. That’s uh TR joins us on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Uh we’ll get to the con man of sports 1440 coming up. We got uh pregame show. Walks will join us. Also, uh, Landon Ferraro will be by as the Oilers. Can their offense come out of this funk that they’ve been in? They’re brutal. Let’s call it Spade a Spade. Offensively, they are brutal right now. They’re bottom five in in pretty much every category. And the one that counts the most, which of course is goals and goals per game. They are 28th in the National Hockey League right now. Simply, oh, sorry, 29th. Just not good enough. So, uh, they will be looking to, uh, to find, uh, a little spunk offensively. Uh, let’s get to, uh, Connor Hley and a sports 1440 update brought to you by Northgate, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC. Uh, they’re getting so close to their goal of feeding 500 families. How do you help out? [Music] Hey everybody, happy Tuesday. Good afternoon. Welcome into the sports 1440 studios in West Edmonton Mall. Hour away from the Oilers and the Ottawa Senators tonight. This is the Titan Supply pregame show. Uh Andrew Walker with you joined by Jason Greger, Connor. Howie, uh before we get into things, let me take you back and I I listen to a lot of your show today. I don’t know if you touched on this. Let me take you back to about a year ago. It was mid November and the Oilers, they had stumbled out of the gates and they had kind of worked their way back to about a 500 record. They were they were playing better, but not great. And they went on this Eastern road trip. They blew a lead in Toronto, which was a Saturday night, I think. Then they got spanked in Montreal on uh and that would have been the Monday cuz it was an Amazon Prime game. And then the Tuesday night, another Tuesday, they were in Ottawa. And all of a sudden it looked like sometimes they’re like, “Oh, you had a bad start.” And sometimes that bad start becomes a bad season. And after that Montreal game, I think some people, including myself, were worried this might not be their year. Um, and for my money, the game that turned the tide of last year’s year, not that the regular season was great, cuz it wasn’t, but was the win in Ottawa that night, November, I want to say was the 19th. Uh, you remember Evan Buchard went endto end early on, scored maybe the goal of the year. Uh, another Tuesday night, Oilers won 52. The offense woke up, they won 19 of their next 25. There’s always these little key momentum building moments in a season. That was one for me. So it’s it just so happens it’s the same spot. You know, there’s a lot of Ontario guys. Who knows what it is? Henrik’s a thousandth game. You got plenty of motivation. No goals for McDavid. Oilers will need another one of those games tonight. So or at some point. Maybe it comes tonight. That was the Evan Bousard goal. Yes. End to end eight minutes in. Yeah. Well, they you know what? Hey, the uh the Senators are one of the worst teams in the NHL at giving chances up off the rush, which would normally be frothing at the mouth for the Oders. But oddly enough, the Oders can’t even generate high danger chances off the rush. It’s not like the Red Wings and the Devils play some lockdown style, right? Well, it just it illustrates why the Oders offense is struggling because now if you want to say Net Fred isn’t great and Heyman’s not there, you’re like, okay, but why can’t they go off the rush? I saw that, you know, stats guys are putting out, hey, McDavid’s had the most offensive zone possession time. Yeah, but it’s not resulting in he’s passing up shot after shot after shot in the slot. It’s the only way to defend McDavid. Like he he is going to outwheel you in the in the in the offensive zone and and these guys just okay just keep him to the outside and and also like McDavid is amazing at a lot of things. He is not David Pastnack, Austin Matthews, Mico Ranton, bar down snipe show all the time like like right and and so a team strategy I can guarantee you they’re in film room. Don’t let Leon beat you with a shot. If Connor’s going to beat us with his shot, so be it. Right. That that would be my game plan. Yeah, it’s probably fair. Especially right now when he’s not shooting the puck. Yeah. Uh welcome to the Titan Supply pregame show. 1440 Sports 1440. Titans Supply, your only source for rigging, lifting, and hauling products. Visit titansupply.ca. Uh coming up in uh a few minutes, we’ll give you your prop for the River Cree uh overunder on the Whis Johnson text line. Actually, we’ll give it to you right now so you have more time to get your guess in. Uh this is how it works. I’ll give you something to watch for in the game tonight. You send us a text on the Whis Johnson text line. 1833411440. Uh, if you give us over or under, and if you’re on the right side of this, you could win a hundred bucks to the River Cree Resort and Casino. Um, Adam Henrik, it’s his 10,000th game, which is a very well, I don’t know if it’s underappreciated. Maybe it’s underappreciated. Uh, because you might look at Henrique as a player and and a number of players that have reached that milestone be like, “Yeah, yeah, he was okay.” Man, you got to be better than okay to get to a thousand games. You got to be a pro. A pro is pro. So, congratulations to Adam Henrique. Um, so here’s it’s, you know, it he’s going to be playing on the fourth line. Doesn’t see a lot of power play time, everything like that. So, we’re going to say, can Adam Henrique in game number 10,000 gets c can he get on the score sheet? So, it’s a goal, it’s an assist, or it’s a penalty minute. Can he get his name on the score sheet for game number 10,000? Uh, under for no, over for yes. Uh, that is the River Cree over under sent us a text. uh 183341440. Um Landon Ferraro joins us now, our game day analyst for Ed’s Auto Salvage in Westlock, joins us every pregame and postgame and joins the Jason Greger show on Thursday afternoons uh as well. Uh thousand games for Adam Henrik. Um the list is shorter than you’d think. You got to be, you don’t have to be an unbelievable Hall of Fame all-star type player landed to get to a thousand, but man, you got to do a lot of good things for a long time to get to that amount of games. Yeah. Most importantly, you got to be consistent in what you do. And and especially as you go through your career and you get a bit older and you know, for a lot of guys, your roles change. Hey, Landon, we’re gonna Landon, we’re going to reconnect with your your fuzzy. We’re going to reconnect with you, okay? We’ll come back to you in in uh in two seconds. you guys can uh figure it out. Uh sometimes it’s just a bad connection. But uh yeah, I mean Rico thousand games. I actually, this dates me too. I covered the Memorial Cup in Brandon in 2011 or 2010. That was when the year before the Oilers drafted Taylor Hall, who was great in Windsor. Now that team was Hall, Zack Cassian was on that team. Adam Henrik was on that team. But he was a uh he was an afterthought, right? Everyone looked at Hall. Cam Fowler was on that team. Philip Grubower was the defenseman. And yeah, we were all watching Taylor Hall, of course. And then there was this uh this little just strong two-way centerman that uh was involved in every play and was a third round pick of the New Jersey Devils, and that was uh Adam Henrik. And um you know, he’ll Taylor Hall will play a thousand games, I believe, if he hasn’t already. Um, and Adam Henrik will play a thousand games from that team. And Cam Fowler just played a thousand games, I want to say. Yeah. So, man, I not many junior teams have 3,000 game NHLers on it. Yeah. Halls. Yeah. Well, probably next year, I think, is when he’ll get it because he’s at like 9:15 because he missed a few games due to injury. But, yeah, you’re you’re right. He’s had the longest career, but he’s had the most injuries probably. Yeah. Well, Cam Fowler, did he come in the same year? Cuz Cam Fowler was He was I think he did. It was the uh uh No, he was drafted a different year. Oh, Cam Fowler was drafted third overall. No, no, he was 12 overall. Same year. Hall Sean Fowler. Yeah. Oh, no. Fowler went 12th. He dropped. Right. That’s right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That’s right. But he was rated third for a long time and then he dropped to dropped to Anaheim. Like I’m pretty sure. Um actually, you know who’s played the most games in that draft class? I’m 99% certain. Uh hang on. Paul Sean Fowler was in Who went third? Need Rider. Uh, no. The big defense when Gabbransson went third. Oh, Gabbran went third. Johansson went four. Yeah. Uh, Dal Cole was a bust. It went five. I don’t know who played the most games. Give me a Jeff Skinner went seventh. I mean I mean he played as an 18year-old many games. Yeah. I saw I I don’t even got to bring this up. I just saw was seeing some discourse because Skinner has a few points for San Jose and people are flaming not bringing Skinner back. I’m like what what are we doing here? He’s got three Yeah, he’s got three goals. Good for him, right? No, he’s right in the situation. He wants to be uh getting minutes on a bad team. Yes. His bread and butter. Always has been. Yeah. So, no, but he’s had a really good career, man. So, there’ll be four guys probably also. Well, Tyler Sean’s going to play a thousand games. Justin Faulk’s going to play a thousand games. Nonita Ryder, Charlie Coyle. There’s actually quite a few guys in that draft class that will get to a thousand games. Mhm. Yeah, definitely. Yeah. Uh we got Landon back. Is he connected? Okay. Landon Far joins us for Ed’s Auto Salvage and Westlock. The used parts experts provincewide shipping daily delivery to Edmonton. Visit edsautos salvage.com. Yeah, listen. It’s an accomplishment to play one game. So to get to a thousand, that’s pretty awesome. Yeah. And what I was trying to say before was and it honestly kind of works out perfect because my connection was not consistent at all. And that’s one of the biggest things you need to get to a thousand games. You need you need to be consistent. And as your career goes on, your role changes for the for most guys. And you got to be able to adapt and and be a good teammate and and find new ways to contribute. And and Henrik is I mean, just look at his time in with Edmonton. Like he, you know, for the most part is in the bottom six, but you he jumps around when there’s injuries and he can kind of he can kind of do it all still. and and still make himself not just useful but a big part of the team. And you know just a it’s a huge accomplishment and you know I got to 600 pro games and that felt like a million. I couldn’t imagine playing 400 more all in the NHL. Like it’s it’s unbelievable. That was including Europe only 600. Yeah. Injuries. Yeah. Injuries and seasons are shorter there. Yep. Yeah. So, I mean, if you if you tag on a, you know, an extra 40 or 50 for every surgery, I’m right up around there. Do you a lot of doc keeping a lot of doctors in business. How old were you? Do you remember your dad’s 1000th game? Because I got a story about that, too. It was in LA. Yeah, I remember it was Yeah, he was playing for LA, but it was in Dallas. Uh, I remember watching it on TV and I want to say it was a one- nothing game and he got scored on the first shift. So, he got he got he got on the score sheet. It just it did not go his way. So, Gregs, this this gives you a little insight into what uh just such a great understated guy uh Rey is. And people know him from his TV personality, but I’ve known Ray for a long time since covering Landon and Junior. Um, I had a a connection through a a a friend that uh they were raising money for uh his little niece who was going through some big health problems and they had this fundraiser. And so I asked Ray if he had any memorabilia. This is years and years ago and and that game so so his 1000th game he had three jerseys, one for every period and sent me one of them. Wow. Whether it was engraved with a not engraved but stitched in game number 1000. and he wore it for one of the periods and I I gave it to these guys for their charity auction. But that’s that’s pretty cool. Like that is uh you can’t you can’t duplicate that memorabilia. But interesting that you he wore three or four. He might have had one for warm-ups, too. But there’s a whole swack of jerseys. Maybe Henrique has the same tonight. Oh, that’s classic. I remember dad got scored on his first shift in game 1000. Just that’s awesome. He He’s just lucky you guys weren’t texting each other back then cuz that would have been a couple nice text. Oh, be all over. Do you remember like when when you were little like when did you realize that you know like dad’s like you actually understood that your dad was an NHL player like where you’re just like okay this is kind of unique. Uh I mean probably when it really clicked was in LA. um you know he was there four seasons and you know in that second or third year when you know you’re talking in you know we moved a ton and changed schools so you’re always meeting new new trying to meet new friends and everything and you know what does your dad do and I when I’d say hockey everyone would get excited and then you started to realize like oh like not everyone’s parent does that and you know I always love being around the rink I was lucky enough to that my dad played as long as he did. And you know, I was 10 when he’s uh when he retired. I worked in uh in the dressing room in Atlanta filling up water bottles and cleaning visors on the weekend games and and getting to do that. So, you know, I got to remember and and be around for half his career, which was, you know, really lucky. Most guys are having their kids a bit later and they don’t get to be as around as much. And what I like about those stories too because when you when you finally realize that you know what your dad does and and again you played in the National Hockey League so all that being around the dressing room that that helped you but then years later so one of Ray’s longtime you know number one linemates was Andrew Brunette and Landon played against Brunette in the NHL and then uh and and then Ray for years Ray would talk about the worst coach he ever had was Kurt Fraser and then he ended up being Landon’s coach in the American League as well. I love that stuff. Yeah, one of my dad’s last ones. Uh, and it was Kurt was uh my first coach in Grand Rapids. Oh, he was everything I remembered. I mean, Kurt’s one of the best guys in hockey. Just an an awesome guy. You know, you could debate whether, you know, his his head coaching skills, but uh just a great guy, but you know, I wasn’t a very big big guy. And uh I always remember one time sitting getting my sticks ready in Grand Rapids before a game. I had my shirt off and just wearing a pair of shorts around the room and the other team was walking in and Kurt stepped out of his office. It’s like like Landon, put a shirt on. Like you’re no one’s going to be afraid of us looking at you walking by. I’m like, “Yeah, I know Kurt wouldn’t put a big hoodie on.” And you you played against against Bruno, right? When he would have been in Chicago or how did that work? Yeah, when he was in Chicago was my first preseason game actually and I’m standing, you know, I obviously knew he was on the other team and yeah, but your first warmup I’m just trying to kind of get my feet underneath me and all of a sudden I just get a puck rifled into the back of my legs and I look over it’s him dying laughing and then he must he must have retired like seven minutes later. He’s like, “Ah man, I’m too old if I’m playing against pretty close.” He didn’t say anything but it was Sean O’Donnell who my dad played with in uh in LA. We like me and my brother named our family dog after Emodi because he had the big eyebrows and I line up next to him and he looked at me he’s like I need to get out of this league. Landed Ferrar Jones is for Ed’s auto salvage. Okay. Uh Conor McDavid has no goals in seven games after an off season of Yeah, it’s it’s goalc scoring time. Um I I was listening to Gregor’s show earlier today and I we had the exact same thought like he’s not he gets points. He’s not bad. He’s still dynamic. You notice him, but in terms of just the overall McDavid impact and dominance I Jay I think you said like I don’t know if I’ve seen a six game stretch whereas this milk toast. And I I completely agree like right now he’s a you know he’s an above average player barely. Um, are you what are are you seeing anything Landon just out of the ordinary with Connor? I mean, I would say that it was like some points of last year where when he gets the puck and he starts to move like sometimes he looks, what’s the right way to like a lot more determined and knowing what his next play is going to be and others where he kind of just lets his feet take him around the outside and trying to find that pocket in instead of that like just desire to like I’m going through the middle. I’m going to cut into the into the guts of the ice and make something happen. Um, you know, I was I was excited when I was seeing all of his quotes talking about how much more he wanted to shoot this year and score and and kind of start getting his stats back up that way. But, you know, he’s still looking for that pass. I mean, he’s so he’s such a good player. He finds lanes that, you know, a majority of guys don’t. yet. You know, we we’ve we were talking about it on the last pregame walks of like the more McDavid starts to shoot, the more it’ll open up everything else, but like he needs to take charge of that and just waiting for him to kind of just click. You know, I think a big part of it too is the fact that he’s played a lot of hockey over the last few seasons. you know what, even though he is the best player in the world and he’s an unbelievable skater and just skill through the roof, it doesn’t take away the amount that he’s played over the last couple years and the hard hockey that he’s been involved in. Like it might take him a little bit more to get going, which is weird to say about him because he is who he is. And even while saying this, he still has the puck on his tape the majority of the game and still moving around. But for him to get to where we’re all so used to seeing him of of normal is it might take a little bit which is just something different but at the same time you know you can’t fight the amount of work that he’s had to put into it. Yeah. Lon Ferraro joined us. You know, I think I think it’s actually smart by knob block to put dry McDavid together tonight because the best chance you have of those guys getting going is playing them together. Yeah. One one gets going, they both get going and and they both need it right now. Like I loved Leon’s honesty. He was just like and Leon has four goals in six games, but he feels like he’s not playing very well and especially five on five. Like neither one has really, like I said at the I can’t recall a time all year yet that McDavid has really put the defense on their heels where guys are it’s like they’re, you know, they’re they’re skating on cement and they’re flopping all around and they’re just like, “Oh my god, here he comes and I’m out of position.” And that just really hasn’t happened. And usually even if you’re not scoring, McDavid’s threatening. and you know him and like dry subtle’s passes have hit skates and hit sticks in the opposing team at a much higher rate than than you’re used to. And so Leon just said, “Hey man, you’re just like and we got to get there.” Like everything he said was so accurate and so on point after the last loss. Hey, flat out our best guy’s got to be better. Started with himself and you know, I’m not really feeling it. So you got to fight through it. And you know there there’s no magic wand that even confidence can Wayne I think or frustration can increase for the best players in the world. Yeah, I I totally agree. Like if anything, it can it can get to a bigger state because they know what their potential is and they know how important their play is to their team. If if you have a third, fourth liner that’s having a tough stretch, yeah, you’re going to notice it a little bit, but it doesn’t it doesn’t go to the same magnitude as when those two aren’t producing and playing to to the level that they want to be at. You know, I think McDavid, you know, I don’t think we all know like he holds himself to such a high standard that, you know, he wants to be perfect basically every single time he’s on the ice. like that’s it’s impossible even though we’ve you know essentially have seen it over a number of years but you’re going to have these stretches and I I agree with you Gregs like putting them back together and especially like linking them with Pod Coulson who’s just you know like the most meat and bones uh player on their team like just a very simple north he’s going to go get pucks and he’s going to get to the front of the net he knows his job really well like It it’s definitely a way to get them kind of kickarted and and you know once these especially McDavid but once those two find their rhythm and get going like there’s no looking back at that point. They’re off to the races but it needs a little jump start. Landon Ferrar joins us for Ed’s auto salvage. Um after getting injured in the preseason and signing his big ticket, Jake Walman finally comes back in tonight. Um, Walman is not a guy. He’s not going to turn a, you know, a team scoring two goals tonight into a team that scores four goals a night, but he’s a pretty important player on this on this club. What kind of lift does that give the group? Oh, it’s another solid top four defenseman coming back into your lineup and and you know, he’s back paired with Nurse and you know, they’ve had some some good minutes together uh since Wman came over and you know, it’s another person that can deliver a puck exiting his own end and getting it into the hands of of the forwards in a quick manner and on the tape. you know, he has been off for a while, so you know, he’s he’s going to and Knobblock talked about it, too, like he’s it’s going to take a little for him to get back up to his full speed, but at the same time, like he’s mobile. He’s, you know, it’s not like he’s going out and crushing guys, but he is physical. He’s are hard in front of the net. He can make plays, and once his hands kind of start to catch up to the pace as well, like he walks the blue line really well, he can get some pucks through. like it’s it’s another defenseman that you know in in a lot of ways like he doesn’t excel at anything but he does a lot really well and you know exactly what you’re going to get out of them every night. Landon Ferrar joins us for Ed’s auto salvage. So uh take us through your evening. Were you uh did you get much uh of the ball game in? Were you were you living and dying with it? What was I know baseball’s not your your biggest sport, but where are you on the the Jays Mariners right now? I was watching as much as I could of it. I was flipping between a couple of the NHL games and it got tougher and tougher to switch back to those when uh when it would go to the change over in the Jays game. But man, like I couldn’t even imagine like the pop that came through the TV when Springer hit that homer. I couldn’t imagine what it was like in the building. Um you know, there’s no way to not get super excited about it and get really into it. Uh, you know, for me, funny enough, like I I FaceTimed my grandma right after and she’s a massive Jay fan. Me and my older brother got to take her to uh to a couple games in Toronto last year. Uh she was soon as she answered the phone, she’s got her jersey on, she’s got her hat on, she’s bear hugging a a Blue Jays pillow. Like, you know, it’s it’s awesome, right? Like it’s what sports is is there for is you get behind your team, you get excited and and even if you’re a casual fan, more so like I am of baseball, it’s impossible to turn away from a good playoff game. Even in a sport you don’t understand it all, you get pulled in with all the emotion and and everything going on. Man, it was it was awesome. Yeah, pretty incredible stuff. Uh Landon, thanks for this. We’ll talk to you in the postgame show. Yep. Sounds good, guys. Have a good one. for landed for for Ed’s Auto Salvage. Yeah. Well, the he is true about just people who aren’t necessarily big fans and then the dieh hard fans. That’s what you live for. Like you invest so much time and energy into a team or multiple teams because you know there’s lots of people who are order fans and then they’re fans of the Jays or maybe they’re fans of of another MLB team or NBA team or NFL team or CFL team, whatever it is. And when uh when your team goes on a run, it’s uh it’s exciting. And there are certain moments of a run uh in whatever sport it is that really bring you out of your seat and and that’s why the the seven game series just gives you more opportunities to you you can live with the like when you’re a fan of football and it’s a great game but you lead up to it you’re excited nervous and the game happens and then it’s either jubilation or oh you know frustration. Whereas in a seven game series, you’re up, you’re down, you’re up, we won, we lost, you’re up. There’s a lot of ups and downs in that series. And that makes it like when you can what makes sports the best is it can emotionally attract the best and worst of you at times, right? And it, you know, obviously people love it, people are, you know, and in the in the course of the same inning, in the same period, in the same quarter, it doesn’t matter. people get uh you can be super pumped and super frustrated and super nervous all in a span of five minutes when you watch a playoff game in sports. One of my takeaways is and I I it worked out well for for the Jays who may maybe that I kind of like 232. Well, it works in baseball for sure. Less I mean less travel, right? But you you look at the the Oilers series against the Panthers and like Yeah. you’re going back and forth and it’s so much travel and the off days 232 I’m a I’m a fan I think. Yeah. Well 232 makes uh makes a lot of sense you know for baseball because they play all the time right. Um hockey I can see it. They’re like well it’s 22. Do we you know we can play the third game but we never play back to back. Yeah. But then one one and in the finals there’s an off day between every game. like that stand like a final took way too long. Well, that’s the thing about baseball that’s great, too. You got seven games in nine days, right? Like you’re you’re invested. You’re just like you win a game, you can’t wait the next night. Like growing up in my NHL playoffs were four games in the first five days. It was unbelievable. You thought like this is amazing. Two games on the road, they have a day off, then two games on. Oh my god, the animosity is through the roof. And you know what? That’s why sometimes I ch Oh yeah, today’s athletes way better. I’m like, “Yeah, really?” They’re flying first class. They got every possible thing given to them to be in better shape and and be in a better position, rest better. They got sleep things, all these sorts of things. And they were flying I mean, guys were flying commercial not that long ago. Yeah. Not long ago at all. And playing four games and sitting there having a sunsetter at Canadian Brew House waiting to And don’t tell me that the playoff games in the 80s were way easier than the playoff games in 2025. Uh game number 10,000 for Adam Henrique. So the overunder question, will he get on the score sheet? That would be a goal, an assist, or even a minor penalty. Is he going to be on the score sheet of his penalty score sheet? Well, sure. Be involved, right? Be involved. Okay. So, yeah, we’ll see. I Yeah, I I feel like the the uh it’s everyone loves the overs. I get that. But an Adam Henrik uh point uh might be leaning towards under because nobody’s scoring for the overs, let alone the fourth line. But um well, Tamasic’s out of the they’re looking for three games in a row where a player comes out of the press box to score a goal. That’s right. Philp and Lazar and uh and Tomasic. We’ll see. Um or Jake Wman. Ilo I guess he was technically in the press box but more too in an injury right Joe what do you what is Jake Walman gonna bring to the well he bring I think there’s a few things he brings he he can bring a little bit of edge which I I don’t think there’s a ton of on this team you know he’s he can verbally spar with guys and you know can add some energy to a team that at time has been a little bit lackluster this season obviously he brings he brings a lot of skating he can transport the puck which I think Edmonton has struggled at this year he can move the puck Well, so he’ll help out and and obviously he’s a threat in the offensive zone. So, he brings a lot of things for the Edmonton owners. I think getting him back in the lineup should be a big boost to the team because what it does now is, you know, you have whether it’s the Booard pairing or the Nurse Walman pairing out with McDavid, you got a better chance of getting some uh some rush chances from your back end, moving the puck up quickly. Whis Johnson text line is open as well. Edmonton’s go-to for all your heating, air conditioning, and hot water tank needs. Visit whis-json.com. Andrew Walker joined by Jason uh Greger. Um Titan Supply, your only source for rigging, lifting, and hauling products. Visit titansupply.ca. So we talked about McDavid a little bit. Goal is through six games. Um Evan Buchard has no points, which is hard to fathom. It really is. And you know, Bousard is always going to be a bit of a high-risisk player. We know that. I know it drives some people crazy. Well, it drives a lot of people crazy. I get it. But I’ve always pretty been pretty consistent with this. If you’re going to score 80 points and score 30 points in the playoffs and run the NHL’s best power play and win playoffs here, like they don’t beat LA without Evan Buchard last year, I have a pretty high tolerance for some mistakes along the way. Yeah, it’s fair. When there’s no points, it’s it’s a it’s a tough watch, right? and and the timing is rough because he just signed his his mega deal. Um, which I wouldn’t be surprised if that has something, you know, to do with his struggles a little bit. He wouldn’t be the first guy to all of a sudden feel the pressure a little bit. Um, but yeah, Evan, like Evan Buchard, I no goals for McDavid, no points for Bousard. That’s probably even more surprising to be honest. Yeah, it might be. Yeah, having a goose egg across the board. Like Ty Emerson has more points than Evan Buchard. Uh what’s got two points tied with the goalies. Yeah. And so yeah, like eventually Booard’s offense is going to come for sure. And you know, he he had the one obviously really bad game against the Islanders, but I don’t think in his other games he’s really been that bad. He’s just been a a microcosm of their struggles offensively. Nobody’s been dynamic. Yeah. Um you know, Ekolome’s had a lot of turnovers, way more than he normally does. Even so has McDavid uh uh so far this season. And you know, their five on-5 play just looks out of sync. And a lot of it just comes down to me. I’ve said their puck manager all I can’t believe how many passes they’ve missed. And I know, oh yeah, well, it’s the ice. I’m like, well, the other team was playing on the same ice surface and I didn’t see them missing pass after pass after pass. And when I say missing, it’s you’re passing the puck and the guy’s in motion and you’re putting it behind him. That’s I I can’t uh I can’t just sit there and say, “Wow, it’s because of the ice.” I think that’s a little bit of a of a copout. Uh the lines for Niscu Ford. Um we’ll get into this uh this fit on the top line tonight. Niscu Ford all this month. Get rebates as low as 0% or choose rebates as high as $10,000. Details at niscuford.ca. McDavidle and then Pod Coulson on the left side. Yeah. Um we’ll go through the lines in a second. Everything’s been missed around every game. What do you make of uh Pod KS getting a look with the the two I don’t I don’t have a problem with it. I think, you know, he’s the uh he’s the grinder on the line. That’s pretty obvious. Good for checker. Can get pucks, can win battles, and then ideally if you get the puck more in the offensive zone on the sticker, dry subtle McDavid, theoretically your odds of scoring will increase. So, I’m going to play the odds on that one and look to say, hey, Pod Coulson can help there. You know, and he’s he’s he’s not a finisher. He’s never really been a finisher. Um c can he have a stretch where he scores a few goals for you? Yes, as we saw in the playoffs last year. So, I I don’t really have a problem with it. Um, they’ve got guys like Nan Hopkins is playing really well. He’s probably being their best forward through six games. So, and I like him better as a center iceman. So, I like him down the middle. You know, Mi Aani, the fact he only has two go shots on goal in six games is kind of ridiculous to me. I know. And both of them were scored. So, that part’s great, but tell you what, if I had two shots on two goals, you know what I’d want to do? Shoot the puck. Yeah. Yeah. So, like it that stat really surprised me. Like, and it’s not like he’s been playing in your top six for the majority of the time. So, hit a shot on goal at some point. So let let the puck it doesn’t always have to be a perfect area. Just get to the shooting lane. So I I don’t mind that they they spread out the offense elsewhere and and hope that that it gets going and you know Henrik and Howard. I know people say, “Oh, Howard’s got to play with offensive guys.” Adam Henrik’s the third highest goal scorer in his draft class. I think people forget Adam Henrik is an eight time 20 goal scorer. He was a top six center for lots of times in his career. Tomasic just led Swedish League in scoring. These guys have some skill to them. They’re they’re more known for their offensive play than they are their defensive play. It’s not like everyone said, “Oh, geez, you’re playing with Henrik and Tamasa. Those guy, all they’re thinking is defense first.” No, they’re not. When I when Nasim Cadger came up with the lease for the first time and I was covering that team, they played him with Colton Ore and Fraser McLaren. Like, this is not that. Yeah. Yeah, that’s that could be a little bit tougher. He would he would have felt safe though, I’ll tell you that. Yes. Well, it was always funny because then, you know, they would and and Orin McLaren were very popular in Toronto as most tough guys are, right? And so they would, you know, obviously the media would ask Cadry like, “What do you think of playing with these two guys?” And what’s Cadger gonna say? Like, “I hate it.” No, he was gonna say like, “No, I love it.” But it’s like, “Really? You love it? You can’t pass to anyone. You can’t take a pass.” Like, uh, but he’s had a nice career. Mioapontani, Newton Hopkins, Roslick on that second line. Seavoy, Phelp, Frederick, and then as mentioned, Howard, Henrique, and Tomasic. And on the blue line, you got Jake Walman drawing back in. He will play with Darnell Nurse and Kulak Anderson is your third pair. Stcher comes out. Kappan comes out but he is banged up obviously and uh Stuart Skinner gets the start in that. The Lions brought to you by Niscu Ford. Um we were talking little Blue Jays with the with Landon. What was your Were you Were you moving around? Were you glued to your TV? What? Like what was your evening? Uh well actually I was coaching my son’s hockey team. So uh I and one of our coaches uh Ryan had the game on on his phone. Um, as the boys were getting dressed, we I watched up until uh Rodriguez hit a home run and just then at that point I was like now I got to get in the room. So I was just I told I say I don’t want to know the rest of the game because I’m I’m recording. I want to get home. And I got home. I didn’t know anything. So I walked in the house and got a snack for my son. I was like, “Hey, you want to watch the game?” And you know what? He knew what the score was up until that point. And so we just watched the game just basically like it was live. It was live to tape for us. And it was uh you know it was obviously very exciting when uh when Springer hit the home run. Obviously, there was lots of nerves for, you know, my son’s 11, so he lives and dies with every play if they’re Oh my god. When they went up three to one, it’s like, “Oh, geez, Dad. I don’t know.” And I said, “Well, Beck, have the Jays come back later in games?” Well, yeah, a lot. I said, “It’s playoffs, buddy. You can’t You never know.” Like, they still had lots of oats left in this grand scheme of things. And then, you know what? Barger gets a walk. They, you know, IKF continues to come up with. He doesn’t. His hits are very important to keep rallies or start rallies. It’s the biggest difference in the series was the bottom of the order on both. Wasn’t even close. Wasn’t close. Wasn’t even close. So, you know what? It It was just fun to There’s not many games that I can get that excited in in. And especially when you watch it with your son who’s a die hard. He’s at that age where, you know, he’s just like he’s never seen anything like this. So, we got to go to Toronto to see the Jays in late August. And so, he’s he’s a diehard Jay’s fan. So, like when he came home from hockey, he got changed. He put his Jay’s jersey on, he’s watching the game. Well, when they when they beat So, the first World Series, they beat Oakland, the big Alamar home run, and then they beat the Braves. Oh, yeah. You would have you would have been a little older than he is now, I suppose, right? Oh, no. Yeah, quite. Yeah. You would have been teenage. I was 20. Okay. Yeah. And I would have been like his age, I guess. Yeah. So, no, I So, you remember like you remember the impact? What about the Ed Sprag home run? You kidding me? Ed Sprag home run was home run, right? So, you look obviously the uh here’s here’s a hot take, but I think it’s knowledgeable take. Joe Carter walk out for a home run to win the World Series is like the eighth biggest home run in Jay’s history. No. Yes. Why? Alamar’s Alamar given the given the context of the situation, Alamar’s was bigger. Spregs was bigger. Bautistas was bigger. But Bautista was a tie game. The one the one last night was bigger. How could it be bigger than winning the World Series? Well, because they were going to win that game anyway. They were They were I I did know that. I knew that as a kid. I knew that. It’s a walk-off home run. So, yes. I mean, to me, I think I think Joe’s number one, but I think this home run last night is number two. It gets you the World Series cuz Batista the game was tied. So, even if he goes out, correct, they still have, you know, there’s still time left. So, I was 20 rows up behind home for the Bautista bat flip. I’ll never I’ll never be at a And that game was just because of everything that happened, the circumstances, it was crazier than last night. But you can’t argue you can’t argue that the José Bautista home run was bigger than Springers because they were in trouble last night. They were in deep trouble. Uh that was and Buck said on the broadcast that was their chance. Oh, I agree. Springer is bigger than Jose’s. And it almost pains me to to say it because I that 2015 that oh that run was everything to me and and the emotions of that series and that game. And what I loved about the Jose home run is just it was they hadn’t pissed a drop for 25 years and that home run in the bat flip was just s significant of we did it. It’s over. We’re going to win like you know and there was six up six down after that. Um yeah the Cart listen the Carter home run is great but they were up three games to two. They had runners on base. Mitch Williams was a gas can. He was in there whether Carter hit it or not. Then you had Moler, Olarude, like they were gonna get the job done, I believe. Yeah. No, I probably think they would have won, but it’s it’s a walk-off home run of the World. I mean, yes, there’s only there’s only been two at home. At home, so that’s what makes No, but last night was incredible. I I think that uh I I told you this off air. My only thing that made me nervous is I I I think I would have gone Basset to start the ninth for a couple of reasons. You had 8 N1. You could always bring in Hoffman. Yeah. But, you know, Basset’s stretched out. He’s ready. I thought he threw a great inning, induced a couple of ground balls, and it wouldn’t have been insane. And because Hoffman had thrown 31 pitches the night before, if Hoffman didn’t have his stuff, and Seattle scores a run, all of a sudden, you got no Hoffman, you got no Basset, you got no Gauzeman. All of a sudden, you’re into your lower leverage guys. Um, not that you’re planning on giving up that lead, but I I I might have given Basset the I might have given Basset a little bit more string there. The other the other hit that I don’t think ever gets talked about enough in Blue Jay’s folklore was Dave Winfield’s double in the 11th inning. In the 11th inning, now I know it’s at the top. So the Braves still come back and you know like everybody remembers you know Otis Nixon trying to do that for trying to bunt and Tam Tim Timlin throws it down and you know Joe Carter’s in first base and they win. But when we’re talking important hits the Dave Winfield double in the top of the 11th was unreal. And I think it was Devon White and Roberto Alamar if my memor is correct that who were on base. It was uh and I think that was a the the old guy Charlie Lee Brandt was on the mound I think for the Braves and then so Edwin’s home run walkoff during the wild card game was obviously big. But here’s one that no one ever talks about and I’m not saying this is like I’d say it’s top 10 though. Uh it was so in that game five against Texas before Jose hit the uh the the the bat flip home run in the wild seventh inning. They were down 2-1 and Cole Hamills was really good. like I didn’t know if they were going to get back in the game and in the sixth inning Edwin hit a solo shot off Haml to tie it at two and it got got it back to square and then the then the chaos of the seventh inning happened after that and I think the other thing people that that was unique about last night last night reminded me a lot of 1992 World Series because in game in game six when they went to the 11th inning um Tom Hanky had already been in the game so in the 10th they went to Jimmy Kei and Jimmy Key got I think uh two outs in the uh in the in the tenth and then uh or ninth even then he got some more outs or two yeah two outs in the in the tenth and then he got all the outs and then they brought in Timlin for one batter and he got the out and Otis in the future blue jay which was kind of wild that you would make that cuz Jimmy Key at that point I don’t know how many pitches he thrown but you know for starters to come in in that situation we’ve never done it I think you know that’s another kind of legendary it’s probably younger fans like what are you talking about but Jimmy Key to come in at that point of the game in the in the 10th inning in the in a World Series was was pretty remarkable. It’s so funny because they’re all just pitchers, but watching watching a starter come in to relieve, it’s like seeing a I don’t know. It’s like being on Safari and seeing like a cheetah in the wild. Do you miss Here’s a here’s a qu. Do you miss pitchers hitting? Uh, not really. No, no, because there’s there’s Otani and then the rest are kind of I know, but just the strategy involved in the double switches and all of a sudden the American League has to play, you know, at the Dodgers and and all of a sudden you got, oh, Kevin Gosman has to hit and when do you pull him? I I always dug that. But it’s good news for the Blue Jays because the best hitter in the series might be their pitcher. So anyway, uh Friday night World Series game one. And Conor McDavid, Evan Buchard looking to get off the schneide tonight. Um Tiger on the text line. I wanted to answer this. Walker, did you see the bat flip or were you watching the ball? So that this is the Jose Bautista uh bat flip game. So I had been to so many ball games that year, Ty, you’re living and working in Toronto and I I had been to including playoffs, I probably saw 60 or 70 Jays games. And uh when you go to so many games, like if some guy hits a fly ball and everyone gets excited because they think it’s a home run, the more you watch, you know if a guy gets it or not, like you just know instantly. And uh right off the bat, my brother and I were there and and right off the bat, we knew he was gone. So popcorn’s flying, whatever. I didn’t realize that Bautista had bat flipped, leading to st controversy. Um I didn’t realize he had bat flipped till we were at the bar later on and they were showing it on repeat. Like we were already excited and it’s like, “Oh my god, he flipped the bat.” Uh yeah, didn’t know that. But that game was crazy. I’ll never be to a crazier one. Um, all right. The Riverree overunder involves Adam Henrique. Will he get on the score sheet uh tonight in game number 1000? That could be a goal. It could be assist. We’ll also say it could be a penalty. Uh, tell us over or under 1833411440 and uh you could win 100 bucks at the River Cree Resort and Casino. Uh, okay. Let’s hear very quickly from uh Chris Knoblock for Vision Credit Union. And I want to focus a little bit on uh Jake Walman returning to the lineup. Brief clip from the coach for Vision Credit Union on Walman’s return. But uh I think we’ve been having difficulties just transporting the puck up ice and you know that’s just not on our defense or forwards, but I think he’ll be able to help with that whether it’s making a first pass or skating it out. So yes, it’s nice having uh Jake back. All right, so there’s Chris Knoblock Vision Credit Union. You’ll hear more from Chris in the postgame show. Go to your trusted experts in highquality parts, tools, equipment, and more. That’s Napa knowhow. So, Gregs, I I said right off the top, um I felt the Ottawa game a season ago helped turn the Oilers season around. They were very average. They hadn’t been scoring a lot of goals. Um they were coming off losses in Toronto and Montreal. And then on Tuesday night in Ottawa, Evan Buchard goes end to end. The power play wakes up. They win 5-2. They win 19 of their last 25. All the things kind of come together for this game to have the potential to do the same thing. They they need to do a lot of things better. There’s no Brady Kachchuck over on the other side. The sends will give up their chances. Are the Oilers just going to, you know, get their asses in gear and work hard enough to to get those chances tonight? That’s the the matchup I’m looking at. It is the great question, honestly, because like the thing is they really the last 10 minutes of the Detroit game, if you’re trying to find a positive, the last 10 minutes of the Detroit gamep were the were the quickest they’ve looked since the Vancouver game. Easily the quickest on the road trip. And you know, they were moving the puck and they were actually completing passes and it seemed like they were kind of like, “Okay, enough’s enough.” And now Ottawa Shane Pinto is red hot. He’s got seven goals, leads the league. They’re going to have to watch him five on five. He leads the league in even strength goals, but no kachchuck. This there’s not going to be a lot of well there maybe there is, but there doesn’t seem like this will be an overly aggressive game by any stretch. So it’s if the owners can play fast against a team right now that has been given up a lot, um which would be good, but we’ve seen that before where oh here’s a team that comes in, they haven’t scored or whatever, and then you know they score four goals in Edmonton. So, the way the Oders power play is going lately that, you know, they’re passing up some good shots. Uh, five on five. I just think their power play, if they can get an early goal in the power play, that’s a nice goal. I think that could resonate throughout the whole lineup. Yeah. And and the Oilers are no different. Like, you know, the the Islanders when the Oilers went in there were winless and Islanders played a great game. The Sabres, everyone’s making fun of the Sabres. They they can’t go 0 and4. They played some desperate hockey and won. You know, the Oilers give you no indication that they’re ready to break out. They don’t like I’m not seeing any good signs, but they’re they’re they’re too good. They’re too deep. There’s just going to be a time where they figure something out. Um and maybe that’ll be tonight. This has been the Titan Supply pregame show. Uh more of the Jason Greger show on the way from 5 to 6. And you know, for people wondering all what moves the order is going to make, well, they don’t have to make a move. They could just activate um Yanmark off of the IR now if they like and and put Kappet on IR. It’s not uh it’s not a big deal. They’re they’re salary cap compliant. Now, when Heyman returns, because he’s coming on LTIR, that’s when there could be some uh well, there’ll have to be some some roster moves for the Empton orers. Likely two players have to uh to come off the roster at that point. It’s GS Construction as uh Mark Spectre from Roger Sportset joins us once again. Spec, how you doing? Doing great, man. Doing great. Big night. Big night last night. Big night tonight. Let’s go. Yeah. Well, last night a little bit bigger. Game seven of a playoff game. Well, it doesn’t make the same as game seven of the regular season, but uh Oiler fans are definitely going to be watching with interest, hoping that they have the same result that the Jays had and and get a victory uh last night. Um, you know, you look at Jake Wman comes in, he should help out a lot of the things uh for the wos because, you know, we broke it down, man. Right now, their woes are are mainly offensive for this team. Like they’re they’re 12th in goals against. It’s the it’s their offense that is lacking right now. Oh, no question. and and who leads on offense, right? Dry silo McDavid and Bousard have one even strength goal between them. You know, McDavid doesn’t have a goal yet any of any type and Bard doesn’t have a point yet of any type. So, you can tell that means the power play can’t be any good. And you know, listen, there’s no question who drives the bus offensively on this team. And the guys that are driving the bus are fast asleep right now. and until they wake up, you’ll get the odd goal from the other lines and you might rip off the odd two nothing win. But uh in terms of sustained offense, we know where it comes from in Edmonton and it hasn’t started coming from those guys yet. No. And and that’s really where it is for the vast majority of teams in around the NHL, right? Like you can have your guys here there that get hot and you get some depth scoring every now and then, but ultimately uh you need your big guns going. And you know, Jake Walman in theory should uh should add some help because you know he’s a pretty good outlet passer. can really transport the puck and you know should allow the orders because what the funny thing I know when the orders are struggling when they’re 28 spec in uh chances off the rush like that’s their bread and butter that’s where they feast on teams and uh doing a whole lot of nothing so far in that category. Yeah. So, I mean, I wonder why, like I, you know, does that mean that they’re not coming over the blue line with as many rushes and then that that ch that rush does not turn into a shot on goal, you know? I don’t know. Like, obviously, if you don’t get a chance, watch how many watch how many errant passes they’ve had when they enter the zone. Yeah. I mean, that’s my point. Like, you don’t get registered as a chance off the rush if no one shoots a puck on the net. Yeah. You know, it doesn’t mean you’re not starting up over center and over the blue line, okay? But they’re overpassing. They’re they’re mishandling a ton of pucks and and just not executing. But to be like lacking in execution, you know, these guys are NHL players. I think they’ll figure that out. To me, it’s the overpassing that this team this team tends to the worse it gets, the more they pass. You know, they talk about simplifying. They don’t simplify. They make it harder. You know, they don’t. This is not a team. This is a team that tries to pass it in the net. Dry settle’s only even strength goal this year. Pass, pass, pass. Brett Kulak makes a beautiful pass to be taps it in an empty net. They try to score six of those a night. Well, the reality is in the NHL you might get one of those maybe in a night, you know, where one guy’s tapping in an empty goal after five great passes, right? Once every five games. Once every five games. So, you know, they just it to me it’s it’s clearly a mental thing. This team has to simplify like they always say they’re going to do and they got to play some straight ahead hockey like they always say they’re going to do and it tends to be when they actually physically do what they say they’re going to do. It tends to work. Andrew Majapane has scored twice. Those are his only two shots on goal in six games. Spec. It’s wild. And he’s played in your top six for the majority of the year. Yeah, that’s not great. I’m going to say this to you too. like all these other guys. David Thomas was a new guy to town. He’s going to help. Got two assists, you know. Uh I would say to you, Matt Seavoy is one of the young guys was going to help here. Zero points, right? Uh Howard, Isaac Howard, he was another young guy we’re hoping for some offense from. Zero points. So there’s three guys. uh a relative newcomer in Trent Frederick who we thought, wow, is he going to be a center or a winger or first line or third line? He’s got one point. So, there’s a whole bunch of guys that are that are underserved here that need to step up and take a look at their game and get better. And certainly keeping a guy like, you know, between Isaac Howard and Matt Seavoy, if there’s no points coming, then they’re not NHL players and they need to go back to the AHL and learn how to provide points there and then come back up and have another try. But having two young guys kicking around, I mean, Matt Isaac Howard’s playing 946 a night, you know, and not producing a nickel. So, I’m not sure what even he’s doing here at this point. Jason. Yeah. Well, I I think it’s they’re probably looking and say, “Hey, and what they’ve had well, with Kapping out, I thought maybe a move was going to come, but now that he’s injured, there’s no um they don’t they don’t have a lot of bodies, right, to be honest. So, that’s probably why it’s probably why he’s not uh not going anywhere.” I guess I guess you know, Buchard’s playing 20 almost just shy of 25 minutes a night. He doesn’t have a point. That’s going to change, right? That’s gonna change. I get it. But I would say it’s sort of time for it to change, wouldn’t you? Oh yeah. No, without a doubt. They need uh they need more guys going. Mark Spectre uh joins us. The good news, Spec, is that the uh that the Oders their their defensive game overall really really not many areas to concern about. Like they’re they’re top 12 in goals against and they they’ve rarely played for with a lead, right? So, you know, sometimes when you’re trailing, you got to take some chances. And I’ve actually the one area of their game overall I I thought their defensive game Yeah. I know they’ve had some giveaways. People understand it, but overall I think their defensive game has been pretty good, especially considering how porous and just lethargic their offensive game has been. Yeah. No, they they’ve absolutely. And their goalending has been very good, too. You know, we’re not talking about the goalie. So, you know, you got to remember, too, the big giveaway, it’s a bit of an outlier. You know, the big giveaway is is relatively easy to take out of your game. It’s how you’re playing the rest of the time. And the rest of the time, they’ve been really good. The big giveaways hurt this team this year. But yeah, for sure. Defensively, they’re great. Uh the goalending is more than good enough. There’s ab, you know, listen, we’re not breaking any news here. There’s one area of the game that’s got to get moving. I would say the power play could certainly start to produce something here. Uh, this power play has been a perimeter unit that throws it around the outside and doesn’t get enough shots and enough chances. Uh, there’s a unit there that could probably help stimulate some offense here, don’t you think? Yeah. Uh, Mark Spectre joins us. Spec Adam Henrique becomes the 45th skater, 409th player because there’s four goalies who have played 1,000 uh, NHL games. He is third in his draft class in goals. He’s 10th in games played. He’s ninth in points. He’s, you know, he’s had a remarkable NHL career for a third round pick. Yeah. For a third round pick, are you kidding me? You know, I added up today, I think this is his 110th game as an Oiler. So, you know, roughly 10% of his career, but uh yeah, I mean, listen, I don’t care where you’re drafted. You get a guy plays a thousand games. You made the New Jersey Devils made an excellent draft pick. But you pick that guy in the third round, 82nd overall. Uh that’s just some that’s some really good drafting. He’s been a good solid player for a long time. He’s been a good Oiler. You know, I in a third line role, he’s a good player here. He’s taken little He’s one of those veterans. Took a little less money here. Uh and he’s one of those veterans that’s probably they got to do something here quick with his contracts up. So, I guess I’d ask you if you think he’s back next year. What about you? I’d be a little bit surprised, too. But he’s come here to win a cup and he’s been to two of them. And I feel like for his, if you guys like him, guys like Ekholm, you know, that are that are here to win a cup, uh, for their sake, it would sure be nice for this team to get it done for them once in a while. Uh, yeah. Well, you know, hey, there’s there’s not much more they can do, I think, other than uh other than win. So, uh, we’ll we’ll see kind of how it goes. But, um, a few other guys when you Hey, wait now. Hold on. Hold on. Did you get did you watch that Blue Jays game last night and no one told you the score? Spec I can tell you the story. So I get I get to the rink right and I’m like okay you know what now by the time I got to the rink the first pitch hadn’t even started. So we sat down the kids are in the room whatever. I come out and one of my assistant coaches has his phone on on the ledge. I’m like well if I’m watching the game here I don’t care. I’m not missing anything. I’m like this will save me time. So I watched a you know check in on the room here there. you know, did some warm up, but I watched the first uh up until I guess that was early in the third inning when uh Rodriguez hit his home run and it’s and it’s two to one and then I watched the game. So, at that point, that’s all I know it’s two to1. Now, I’m focused on the game and not really thinking about it. After the game, I just told, “Hey guys, I don’t want to know, so please don’t tell me.” I didn’t know. I did not know. I didn’t have my phone. I didn’t hear. I got in my car. Um I didn’t even listen to anything. I just drove home in silence because I didn’t want to risk some radio station randomly or SiriusXM telling me the score. So then I got home, went downstairs and uh turned on the game, fast forwarded it right to the Rodriguez home run, and then I started watching the game. So it was like I watch it live to tape. Uh my son came downstairs, he’s a huge Jays fan now, and we got to watch it basically like in in uh in delayed real time, so I had no idea what happened. And uh yeah, was I tempted to want to fast forward? Sure. But, uh, we didn’t like obviously fast forward through all the commercials and stuff like that. Again, it was awesome. And so, uh, obviously when Springer hit the home run, you know, my son was going crazy and so that was really fun. So, it was, uh, good. It was good to see. And so, uh, I was excited and now I can’t wait till Friday night, buddy. Like, Friday night’s like a watch party. Like, you know, I’m you know, my my wife, we’re already talking about it. Hey, this is what I’m going to do. I’m gonna we’re gonna have pizza, gonna have some beers, gonna watch the game. Yeah. And and it was speaking of watching the game, we got an email, internal email. That was the most watched baseball game in the history of Rogers. Six million people were watching that game in Canada last night. So, you know, it’s become that. Now, it’s now here we go. Friday, Saturday, World Series games playing in Toronto. That’s going to be, you know, I mean, who’s not watching baseball this weekend, right? I’d ask you that. Yeah. Like, there’s some people, I guess, that don’t like ball, and that’s totally okay. But even them, I can see them being like, you know, I’ll uh I’ll dive into it here or there. And it is fascinating to see the difference here. Like the Blue Jays, I don’t think people realize like the Blue Jays offense was 100 points higher than the Dodgers offense so far in the playoffs. But the Dodgers pitching has been some of the best we’ve ever seen. So, it’s basically going to come down to, you know, pitching versus hitting. Can the Jays knock the Dodger starters out early and get some runs? cuz Otanaia like I know he hit the three home runs in that one game spec he’s still only hitting 220 and that’s with a three home run game like he had nothing going on until then so you know we’ll see what goes on here they got a lot of weapons I know but you know the Jays the one thing they’ve done all year long so the Jays are the best team at not striking out the Dodgers are the best team that’s striking out so this is going to come down to can the Jays get can Jays get a bat on the ball it’s like it’s an unreal matchup when you look at it that way. The best team that strikes out hitters versus the best team that doesn’t strike out. I love it, man. I love it. What What are you doing with Bashette? Well, I’d bring him in. If If he says he’s good to go, he’s a DH. But I’m not playing him in the field. First of all, even when he’s 100% healthy, Gimenez is a better defender. So, uh I am going with Bulb Bashette to start Spec. I want to see him play a game as a DH first before I’m putting him in the field, right? So, that that would be my my plan early on. And then I’m assuming Blake Schnell starts game one. So you’re you’re probably then Barger comes out maybe um Lucas comes out maybe and you put in Schneider and and Straw and then IB, you know, IKB or IKF just stays in, right, as your second baseman. But once once you go to the second game, then I think IKF comes out and Barger goes back in at third and Clement goes to second and then Lucas comes back in. I I I think I’m assuming he’s going to be healthy enough to play that, you know, the way he ran around on his home run, I think Springer can play the outfield. Yeah. Like remember, I know that he’s coming off injury and I don’t know the state of his defensive game at this point if he’s able to move well enough. Uh when you had all these guys this year, you know, John Schneider, the manager, thought they were their team was the best when it was him at second and Bette at shortstop. That was when they were at their best this year. I’m not telling you that’s when they’re at their best with Bette coming off this injury and he hasn’t played for a month, but you know, you’re right. You’re probably going to DH him a game, but you know what? Like this guy has been your shortstop all season long. You know, I don’t you say it’s just coming off I I look at it this way, Spec. Um and I know it’s to to bring it into the orders. Matias was their top pair left defense in the playoffs. He really struggled coming off that injury in the Stanley Cup final. No doubt. So Bette, you have the option to use his bat. He’s the best contact hitter in the game. He led the league in hits. He missed the what final 20 games or whatever 23 games, 20 games and he was still third in hits by like three. So he can get the bat on the ball. To me, this is the best way to incorporate his offense and not have to worry about him really miss because the shorts stop position is pretty darn important defensively. Oh, for sure it is. Absolutely. And I was going to say you don’t need them defensively. Yeah, but let’s see how it goes. You know, he is again, this guy is your a shortstop. And if he’s healthy, you know, if he’s healthy, are you are you the best team defensively? If he’s ready to give you his agame, you might be the best team defensively going back to him and Gimenez. Gimenez at second, Bishad is short. You know, I know someone’s got to come out. I get it. It’s a crowded lineup right now, but be interesting to see how Schneider handles it. What would you do? Well, I I’m ded him at first. It’s it’s sort of an unfair question. I asked you and you’re asking me now because we neither of us are aware of the the full state of his health, right? Like I just don’t know. Is he 100%. Is he 80%. Maybe he can hit but he he can’t move well enough to be the shortstop. You know, maybe for John Schneider it’s a no-brainer. Maybe the trainers telling them you can hit this guy but he can’t play shortstop. So I just don’t know. Like they’re not telling us. And I don’t know if you told me that he was a thousand% healthy and ready to play shortstop. He’s my shortstop. He’s playing shortstop for me. I’ll figure the rest out later. Yeah. Yeah. I’m guessing he isn’t that healthy because he wasn’t on the roster for the last series. I’m kind of guessing that, too. Yeah. Yeah. So, it will be What about the What would be your uh who would be starting game one on the mound for you? Well, I mean, Gossman’s still in in the rotation like he only pitched what did he do? one inning last night and that was supposed to be his throwing day anyway. So if if you’re telling me if I can believe the guys on TV, which I do, that that didn’t throw Gman off, then he’s my starting pitcher in game one because that’s how I’ve been doing it all playoffs and I’m winning every series. Why am I changing that? Yeah. Uh if I can go to Yavich in the second game, if that’s how the days turn out, then he’s for sure my number two starter, right? Maybe maybe if you need another day out of your Savage, you go with Sherzer in your second game. Listen, I know Sherzer’s only had one good start in a row, but I’m in the World Series. I brought Sherzer in for these moments. He showed me last game. He’s got something left. He’s going to get a start for me in my first three games here for sure. No. Um, yeah. Well, I I think I don’t know if I think Sher’s in game four. I still think Bieber is my game three starter. Okay. Well, whatever. Sherzer’s going to be in there. He’s going to get a start here in the play in the World Series because man, I I I acquired Scherzer for this reason, right? This is why I got him. I’m not turning back now. He’s going to get a start. I don’t mind that four those four those four starters in a row. You know, Bieber, they beat around a little bit last night. I thought when they took him out, it was time to take him out. Like they were just getting contact, contact, contact. Most of Bieber’s start last night. I didn’t love it. Uh he got out of some jams. But anyhow, listen, I like the pitching. I guess it’s not as good as the Dodgers, but you know what? I’m ready to watch them anyway. I think the Jays can beat the Dodgers. Let’s go. Well, I’m looking forward to it. I can’t wait. It should be It should be loads of fun. And hey, Otani’s like, it’s interesting. You’ve had Judge and now you have Rally and now you got Otani. Like, it’s best on best, man. Like, Guerrero has gone right with those big guys. Otani is obviously a different he’s a different breed. And God, when he hits the ball, does he not just hit it an absolute ton? So that will be uh that will be uh fascinating to to watch. Um one last one spec going back to the to the owners. You mentioned their power play. Um I don’t they don’t have a ton of chances, but like obviously they miss Heyman a little bit, but Heyman was never the main focal point of their power play ever. What have you seen or not seen from the PP early on? Well, there’s a couple things. I mean, yeah, but the one thing about Heyman is he gets he scores the ugly goal for you. He he stands in there and gets one banked off him. And we all know in hockey I don’t don’t ask me why but I’m telling you it’s true. When you’re in slumps it usually a slump ends with a garbage goal and he’s a king of the garbage goals. So that’s one thing having him in there. Things go in that don’t go in when other guys are playing. And the second one for me is I was under the impression that Evan Buchard would be shooting the puck a little bit more on this power play this year. I thought that you know I mean teams of they just almost stand next to dry settle. that shot isn’t. The goalie knows it’s coming. Uh that’s a tough one for Dry Settle. Everyone knows he’s in his office. He’ll score some from there still. But you need another option and I thought it was going to be Bashard. But I’ll tell you what, I don’t see him letting go the bombs on the from the point that often on the power play. I’m a little I don’t say disappointed. I guess I’m a little surprised. I thought he would become more of an offensive option instead of just a distributor. And I’ll be honest with you, Jay, I in terms if we’re talking about Evan Bashard’s role on the power play, and it’s not I don’t know if it’s his fault, coach’s fault, whose fault it is, I don’t see any difference this year than I saw the last few years. Do you? Uh, no, not really. Um, Bishard was never a high volume shooter uh before anyway. So I you know like when he’s if he’s if you look at and I’ve dug into all the numbers their power play is the most successful when dry settle is their number one shooter and then uh McDavid’s number two. Obviously they miss Heyman a little bit but even when they had him or Perry that part didn’t didn’t matter a ton. It’s more so um you know dry settle’s got to be the main point man and when the power play really rolls dry guess what McDavid shoots the puck more. So that would uh that would be a good uh a good start uh for them on the man advantage. No question. Uh Spec, uh enjoy the game tonight. We’ll see if the orders power play can get rolling. We’ll see if five on five scoring can uh can get a pulse. Uh we shall see. Have yourself a good one. All right, thanks Jay. There you go. That’s Mark Spectre. Yes, my friend, that word. Last night in Toronto, Schneider threw it around like JP Crawford fouling off splitters in the eighth. Fast, furious, frequent fwords, Connor. Just don’t say them to little Benny. Each syllable flew off Schneider’s tongue with the precision of a well-placed bunt, echoing through the dugout like an area of outrage only baseball managers can perform. I have but two words. Well, one word and a number. Over there, Gregor, holster that keyboard. I know you’re typing while you’re listening to this. Oh, yes, I do. Listen up. My word is so. My number 2025, the year we stopped whispering the f-word and started using it like punctuation. He’s one chain away from being I don’t even know his role in that movie needs needs a in training day. Yeah. Well, he was a trainer. Well, yeah, he was a trainer. Alonzo. Alonzo. He was so much more than a trainer. Yeah. Well, he was uh he’s kind of shady trainer for sure. Yeah, that was good. Hey, buddy. There’s very few Denzel movies that aren’t good. Like, if we throw a leather jacket on deck and one more chain, oh my god, he’s Alonzo. The chain gang. Hey, I like it. Why not? So, that would be that would be all right. So, uh we’ll see where it goes here. Um the uh uh looking we got a lot of other texts to get to. 833 401440 833 401 uh440. Hey guys, uh listening to your number crunching on the orders offense. Is it as simple as them just uh shooting more or are you seeing other things? Well, shooting more for sure would help. And I said it uh on the power play, they needed to get going. They needed to shoot the puck more. And guess what? Just as we read the textun, breaking news, order fans. Conor McDavid has his first goal of the season. On the power play and the uh the Oers lead one- nothing. McDavid gets it. Just a quick release upstairs on a nice pass from Newton Hopkins. Shoot and thy shall score. Conor McDavid. Hey, Connor Hley, what do you think? Oh, what a shot to pick the corner. Uh, going high glove from that angle. Quite impressive. And yeah, do it more. The message for me would be shoot it 25 times a game. Every time it’s on your stick and you’re in a certain vicinity, let it fly, Connor, because you can score uh with the best of them. And yeah, that’s absolutely huge for not only him, but the I think the power play and then the Oilers to to get that lead. Oh, yeah. Like how many times they scored first against Calgary? Um they scored first against the Rangers. Did they score and in Vancouver too, right? So yeah, it’s been a while. Their uh their last three losses all uh by allowing Did they score first against Vancouver? I can’t remember. You remember? I can’t. So I know at least twice. Maybe uh maybe this will be the fourth time. So good for them. And hey, good for McDavid. Like I don’t I don’t care, man. You’re the best player in the world. you uh you go for a while without it. It’s uh they did against Vancouver. No field. Yeah, there you go. So they are uh when they score first they’re two and one 2-1 actually no 20 and one. The Jason Greger Show, the best of Edmonton sports talk and beyond. This This is Sports 1440 presented by playalberta.ca, Alberta’s only regulated online gambling website. Well, the first period flew right by the Edmonton Oilers after 20 minutes lead the Ottawa Senators by a score of one- nothing as Conor McDavid, you knew he wasn’t going to goalless all season. See, being a little facicious there. He scores his first of the year on the power play. Nice shot. Nan Hopkins with the uh the assist to set him up. Evan Bard also gets his first point of the uh season. So uh so there you have it. The uh the orders um one for one on the power play. They had killed off the first penalty and they have 19 seconds left. Uh Isaac Howard got a penalty. He’s kind of soft, but uh either way, overall, I think Emonson would be happy with that. Another period where didn’t give up a ton of of chances. The uh the best one, Steuart Skinner, was a was an oddman rush coming down the the right wing and uh Skinner was uh out to challenge nicely, made an easy blocker save into the corner, and that was really the uh the best look by the Senators in that period. So, hey, for a team that uh they’re not scoring a ton cons, but uh they they got to find a way to uh to get a win and uh we’ll see if they can. Uh other scores, how about young Matthew Schaefer? He has a point in his first six NHL games. Now, he’s already owns the NHL record for most points by defenseman in their first six games. And now he’s tied the NHL record for uh most consecutive games with at least one point. It’s pretty damn remarkable, man. Like, I don’t care. But, uh, he played six minutes and 8 seconds in that first period. Well, this period’s still ongoing, but he he’s got an assist as the, uh, Sharks and the Islanders. Hopefully, you took the over as, uh, it is 2-2. Uh, first period isn’t even done yet. So, uh, thought there might be some goals and indeed there is. Colin Graph scored his first short-handed Borvat’s got five goals on the season. and then Sazika Sword and Adam Goddet. Michael Misa gets his first NHL assist. Meanwhile, the Penguins and the Vancouver Conucks, Connor Garland open up the scoring and Connor Der tied it late in the first period. Washington Capitals at home. The Kraken playing their fifth game in eight days. Nick Dow has scored his first goal of the season. Uh other games uh the Maple Leafs we mentioned they are leading New Jersey one- nothing. John Tavvarz with his fork. John Tavvaris is uh inching closer to 500 career goals. Pretty uh pretty impressive. Him and Patrick Kane were were basically racing to see who would be the the first. And uh 498 now for uh John Tavvaris, his fourth of the season. And uh if he does it, then he will become the uh 49th player in NHL history with 50 goals. Not bad. The Florida Panthers losers of four in a row on a power play. Masamaskovich gets his second and Brad Marshant in his return to Boston. Now last year the Panthers did play there after the trade, but he was injured and uh and didn’t play. But uh he gets an assist tonight. Later on you have the St. Louis Blues hosting the Kings. No, Copitar. The Kings got they they’re one three and two. They’re they’re in a deep hole here if they can’t get a win. Nashville hosts Anaheim. Columbus is in Dallas and Colorado and Utah will uh battle again. So, a busy slate of games, which is normally the case on uh Tuesdays. Also, uh in the CFL, the Elks will wrap up their season on uh Friday night, and it’s game one of the World Series. It’s a game that has no no impact for the Elks. Probably not going to be the best crowd, but they can play spoiler as the Calgary Stampeders are in a battle to uh finish second in the West and get home field advantage in the West semi final. Uh they’re 10 and seven. BC’s 10-7. Winnipeg is 9 and 8. And uh Winnipeg host Montreal on Saturday. Meanwhile, BC’s in Saskatchewan. So, still some uh implications. Hamilton and Montreal are also tied for first right now in the East, both at 10 and seven. Hamilton has Ottawa, which is obviously a much easier opponent than uh than Montreal does. I haven’t looked. I think Hamilton has the tiebreaker if I’m not mistaken. BC, I think, has the tiebreaker over Calgary. So, uh BC would need to win. And if you’re Saskatchewan, sounds like they might not play a lot of their starters again. Cons, which would be that for the second week, then they’re going to have a by-week that makes it almost a month. I’m just not sure that is uh um as kind of uh um surprising to me if that’s what they’re going to do. Yeah, you think you maybe want to get them out there for a quarter or couple series at the very least just to keep them in that habit, keep it going there. But, uh we’ll see how it works out for him. Interesting though, Gregor, like you talked about the game on Friday night, obviously not much implications for the guys out there. Lots. You can kind of put out good tape whenever you get the opportunity and a lot of guys will get that opportunity, but uh for a game in late October, like they’re going to have a high of 16 on Friday in the city. Could be a great weather actually to go out and watch some football. A little bit of a later start, but you layer up, you maybe have a drink or two, hot chocolate, you should be good to go. Yeah. Um hey, why not? Who doesn’t say hot chocolate? Well, I mean, not everyone has to have alcohol, you know. Oh, I know. But hot chocolate was your your go-to non-alcoholic drink. Well, if it’s cold out. Yeah. What What would you have at a game? Ice cold cola. Um, outdoors. Oh, I’d probably Yeah, hot chocolate’s not bad, but I might have a tea. Yeah. Do they sell tea yet? It’s a good I have no idea. I’ve never had a think I’ve ever tried to order a tea there. Yeah. Yeah, you’re probably right. They probably don’t, but Earl Gray. Oh, no. Okay. I’m going peppermint all peppermint. Come on. All the way. Hey, Gregs, I didn’t see the goal. Uh, was it a nice goal or just a lucky goal? Not that it matters. I’m just curious. Oh, no. It was a nice shot. McDavid came in. He was on the left circle. Nan Hopkins comes behind the net right on a state. McDavid basically kind of, you know, like a sweep one-time sweep shot. Didn’t slap it. Just takes it, receives it quickly, and he went uh far side up high over Allark for the uh for the first goal of the game and the order score and the power play. So, hey, lots of things are power. What do we say with Spec? Oers need a power play to get him going. And McDavid’s got a shoot. And lo and behold, all three things happened. McDavid scored. He shot the power play scored a goal. So, that’s uh it’s a good thing McDavid uh led the Oders with two shots on goal in that. Oh, no. Darn Elmer’s. Oh, no. That’s right. The Oders only had six shots all by forwards on that uh period. Frederick, Henrik, Seavoi, Dry Cidle, and then McDavid had two. McDavid uh played 654 of the uh in that first period. Dry Cidtle played 653. Then Mia 528 on the back end. It was Koulak. How about that? Brett Kulak playing the most minutes at 747. Now he’s on the penalty kill, I guess. And Darnell Nurse 723. Walman 654. Bard only played 547. So, uh, uh, that’s that’s a little interesting to me, Khan. Something to watch for after that first period. Yeah, absolutely. Now, I know Booard doesn’t kill penalties, so that probably had something to do with it. Yeah. The box and even even their power player, too. Maybe uh that evens out a little. Yeah. Well, I’m look I’m going to look quickly at their uh um at their five on five minutes. And uh Nurse 645, Koulak 601, at home 546, Walman 5 uh43, uh Bousard 405. Even if did he did he miss a shift with an equipment issue? I don’t think so. Yeah, that’s something to uh something to watch for. Just to see kind of how things are uh how things will be progressing in this uh in this game. So, um I’m looking at uh I’m just trying to see like is he not paying playing in his normal pair? Oh, he’s playing with that. But yeah, they must have got caught out there for a shift or something. It just seems uh seems kind of weird. But hey, whatever it takes. Maybe they need to win. So, uh maybe less is more is the strategy they’re going with. We’ll uh we’ll see. Hey guys, Winnipeg minus 30 below. I still have a beer. I get it. I totally understand it. The Gay Cup, that’s kind of it’s kind of what it’s for, don’t you think, Connor? Oh, yeah. Hey, we used to like one of my favorite things was the Friday night, end of the season. Seems like 7:30 games always happened 8:00 and uh yeah, you just have a couple maybe before you get out there. Go warm up in the beer line under the concourse. Uh bathroom’s going to be warm. I I’m a big fan of that. Just, you know, wear the layers. You’re not You don’t have to be a macho tough guy. Throw on the gloves as well. Stay warm and be loud. I like the cold weather games. I think it’s perfect for football. Yeah. Hey, nothing wrong with it, buddy. I I don’t mind cool temperatures for a football game. I think it’s fantastic. Uh uh one last one, Cons, what are your thoughts uh what you saw last night in the National Football League setting up uh for this week? Uh what do you make like the Detroit Lions? Uh we still should be uh very high on the Detroit Lions, do we not? Oh, absolutely. Uh, I mean, I think injuries kind of running rampid there and suspensions in the secondary and they still looked great. Like we talked about Baker Mayfield. The whether it was what you had the odds as or what the betters had it as. Baker Mayfield is kind of a top three MVP candidate. They get Mike Evans back looks like he’s going to miss the remainder of the year with a broken collarbone. The injury was brutal. Yeah. So, we’ll we’ll see how they respond. But the Detroit Lions when they get going, you know, Jir Gibbs finding his stride on the ground. They didn’t even really need David Montgomery in that one. Gibbs kind of did it all. and Ammonro St. Brown played really well in that defense. Like we said, even with the injuries, that front seven can get up for the quarterback. They look very good. Seattle Seahawks I thought pretty solid as well. Jackson Smith, Nigba, a guy who just keeps getting better week in and week out. I have to remind Duke of that all the time because in our fantasy football league, he insisted we take scary Terry McLaren over JSN. And uh I’m going to let him know that we made a mistake each and every week because it just keeps getting worse and his Titans uh not looking great. But yeah, the Detroit Lions, you look at the NFC right now. I think with what we’ve seen from the Philadelphia Eagles as of late, uh there’s questions there and I I really like what Detroit’s doing. Maybe it is their year. Well, they’re a good team. They uh they are a good team. Uh no doubt about it. And I I still, you know, that that injury to Mike Evans um that’s devastating, I think, for for Tampa Bay. They had a great start, but man, I just I don’t know, dude. Like I have to look at their schedule. like they’re still going to be a playoff team, don’t get me wrong, but unless Mike Evans can return in the playoffs, I just don’t know if I can put Tampa Bay as a legit contender. What about you? No, no, I don’t. Even with him, even with him, I just I think it’ll be tough to get to it. They got the Patriots, they’ve got the Rams, they’ve got the Bills, like there’s three tough games in a row uh for them, the Saints before that, and a lot of divisional matchups here as well. So, yeah, I mean, it certainly won’t be easy for Buffalo. They had done it up to this point without him or sorry for the Bucks without him so far. Uh they need a Maaga back in a healthy Chris Godwin another guy. If he’s healthy obviously he’s going to be very big for them. Uh they battle that injury bug just in that receiver room. It’s probably been hit as hard as any any positional group in the NFL right now. So Bakers have been making it work but it did not work last night. If I had to ask you right now today 49ers, Seahawks, Rams, who’s the best team? They’re all five and two. Uh Rams. I’m going to take the Rams. I I like the head coach there. Uh obviously they looked good in London against uh the Jags. The Niners injuries are just too much. That’s a good team, but the injuries are the Seahawks, man. Don’t sleep on the Seahawks. I think they’re pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. They might have the best receiver in the game right now. And JSN’s been unbelievable. It’s been pretty good. I know Jamar Chase, I guess, the most dangerous receiver because of his quarterback. Yeah. And you know what? Like defense is solid. That’s a defensive head coach. Yeah.
