Josh Allen: “Execute And Do Our Jobs” | Buffalo Bills

Sean said uh even his wife could see him fidgeting and he knowing he needed to go back to the office to pour over film. How did you deal with knowing that there were some uneasy feelings after two losses? Yeah, I mean uh you sit there and you try to disconnect and not think about it. Um allow your mind to kind of reset and be refreshed. um you know it’s it’s hard not to think about it and it’s hard not to want to get back in the building and continue to work on your craft and get in with our guys and put together a game plan. So um you know good had like a nice little practice on Monday. So that was awesome just getting the the ball rolling. And listen, we got a lot of work to do. Um but this is a team that has a lot of guys that want to do that work that care for each other. Um and we’re just excited for another opportunity this week. Can you pinpoint what’s gone wrong with the lack of footage? Um and and and how lack of fage finish and and um how correctable it might be. Um I mean, I think it’s very correctable. Um again, just pulling together as a team, making sure that we’re staying staying as one unit. Um getting back to the fundamentals. Um again, just trusting the the other 10 guys on the field with you and uh you know, you’re trusted and expected to to do your 111th. What’s the offense done that you’ve liked so far, Josh? What do you uh what do you have to build on the positives? Yeah, I mean, I think uh you know, we’ve been able to run the ball pretty well. Um you know, play action, pass game, I think it’s been pretty good in inside the numbers has been pretty good. Um obviously, there’s a lot of directions that you can go to to try to clean things up and um ultimately, you know, wanting to go out there and play the best that I can play for this team. And uh you know that it comes down to again just going out there and execute executing each and every given play call that Joe gives. Um but making sure that throughout the week we’re we’re straining in practice and um finishing on plays and sometimes it’s the small things. You learn a lot from from these losses that that maybe you don’t learn in wins. So um again we’re just looking forward to trying to correct those and move on. Getting the running backs involved in the pass game is something guys. Yeah, I mean I I think we can be better at that for sure. We can we can be better at getting a lot of other people involved uh in our pass game. Um and again that starts with me. There are people out there who say we’re criticizing the offense is the receivers saying they can’t get separation. This this is wrong. The play calling is off on short yardage situations with the cute plays. How do you um respond to that? You’re still probably in a bubble and you might not hear it. Um, yeah. Again, we’re we’re just trying to go out there and execute and and do our jobs and obviously we want to we want to score on every single drive, you know, that’s that’s our goal and we’re not going out there to to not score. Um, you know, and it takes everybody on the field to to, like I said, execute their job. Um, and a big part of that is quarterback play. And again, we’ve turned the ball over the last couple games and um really hasn’t helped us um within the game and the situations that were called for it. So, yeah, it starts with me. Um, but again, we’re looking forward to getting back on track and um having a good week of practice and trusting each other and again, just going out there and playing football, but having fun, you know, and I think that’s what it kind of comes down to of being a little don’t don’t have to get tight. Um, don’t have to change everything. Obviously, we want to correct things, but doesn’t we don’t have to do a complete overhaul, you know. We’re uh we still trust our guys and we still are going to rely on our guys to go out there and make some plays and um that’s ultimately what we got to do. Can you draw upon you’ve never lost three straight yourself whether center can you draw upon and but you’ve lost two straight a couple times. Can you draw upon what you’ve learned from those experiences or what the key is uh from those um again maybe not just overlooking some of the smaller things that are going on within within the games and within practice and making sure that we’re again staying together um and coming together. You know, staying together is one thing, but coming together after two losses is a completely different thing and it takes a lot of resilience and takes a tight unit to do that. So, um, you know, that’s that’s what we’re trying to do. That staying together and coming together, how do you see that specifically with the offensive line? Everyone, but exact numbers, I know there’s multiple things that go into that, but just kind of how do you see them rebound from maybe what these past few games were? Yeah, again, continuing to communicate as much um as we need to. um have to be better in the protection game and you know giving our guys um better opportunities and chances to block for us. Um yeah, it comes down to sometimes doing your your 111th and winning your matchup. So um listen, the O line that’s such a tough position to play because you can win 95% of the time, but um you know they they get one or two on you and in critical part of the game um you know there’s a lot of blame that gets put on you. So, um, but again, I I feel like sacks are our quarterback stat as well, and I can help us out in that fashion. Talked about coming together there. Last year, it seemed like the team was remarkably close, exceptionally close. Where do you feel like this year’s current team is in that process of coming together? Yeah, I think we’re, you know, we’re in a good spot in terms of um the trust and the love that we have in this locker room for each other. and that’s only going to continue to grow and returning a lot of guys, but um obviously have have a lot of new guys, especially on the defensive side. Um and again, just making sure that we’re you know spreading the love in the locker room and again I think it comes down to just having fun with each other and trusting each other to to do our jobs. You mentioned you mentioned having fun, making sure that you’re having fun. That seems in the past that that kind of starts with you. How much of a responsibility do you take on making Everybody’s loose even though struggling a little bit. Yeah, I mean I think there’s a lot of obviously being in the quarterback position a lot of people look at this position um you know they draw sometimes strength from it or can be inspired by uh this position. So again, going out there and um obviously working extremely hard and doing my job and uh leading from the front um but also having energy and juice and you know not putting my head in the sand and um you know my grandma called me was like I just want to see you smile you know so get back to to some of that and and you know in practice making sure that we’re um really emphasizing you know we score let’s go let’s go celebrate right it’s it’s hard to score in in this league. It’s hard to win in this league. Um, you know, I feel like that again helps build the team, too, when you’re taking an extra 15 seconds throughout practice to go celebrate and pick somebody up and have a lineman spike spike the ball. So, that’s what we’re going to get back to. Did it hit home? Did when she said that to you, your grandma, did that hit home? Did you go, you know what? Yeah, a little bit. Probably right. Grandma’s When did she call? Uh, this would have been last Thursday about four or five days ago. So, yeah. Huh? After the three days after the event? Yes. Yeah. Did you feel you weren’t smiling or She felt that way. Yeah. I guess I must not have been. So, um it’s no fun obviously losing and maybe that’s why. But, um it’s a lot easier to smile when you’re winning, but ultimately again going out there and just trying to execute and having fun with it. She stay up for the night games. Oh, yeah. She watches every game. She’s a She’s a gamer, huh? On the West Coast. That’s true. That’s true. It helps. You mentioned like most of the newer players on this team are on the defensive side of the ball. Does it make it easy or more comfortable to try to figure out the offense when you’ve had so much success basically with this personnel? Yeah, the continuity helps um the conversations that you can have of, hey, remember how you ran this route last year against this team and if we’re putting this concept back in either great, let’s run it like this or didn’t work, let’s change it. So, um, to be able to have guys that you’ve been in battle with and can trust and rely on, obviously, that’s extremely helpful. Going back again, top 10 yards after the catch, would you some of these short completions where he goes catches it five yards out when he runs for 15, bounces off guys? What goes through your mind as a quarterback when you have a short completion just weaving and bouncing off guys? Well, it’s sometimes when he has the ball, um, he’s kind of hard to see cuz typically our linemen are moving and I don’t really see when what he does when he does it and then obviously when he scores it’s like we get back to the sideline looking up at the jumbotron and seeing how many missed tackles that he he forced. So, uh, he’s an electric football player and again what I love about Cle, he just does everything the right way. He works extremely hard. He follows the football. He practices extremely hard like I said. Um, and it’s easy to easy to one play with a guy like that, root for a guy like that, and uh throw to a guy like that. Going back to your family for a second here, mom and dad were there. I know we haven’t got a chance to talk to you about it for fireball naming the field after you. Just, you know, looking back on that now, emotions kind of how cool was that and what was your kind of just thought on watching that whole ceremony play out? Yeah, it was very cool. Um, obviously extremely honored to to be a part of that and uh to be a part of Fireball history and it’s uh you know it’s it’s a fantastic town with a lot of fantastic people and um to have my family there on my behalf was uh extremely extremely cool and not only that there’s a lot of history again my my grandfather um the gym is named after him so it makes a lot of sense and it’s it’s just really cool to kind of be in that same breath thing you ever thought about like you know we’ve talked about like serious cereal boxes and other things like that where you think about that as a kid. Did you ever think about a field being named? No, never. Never. No. It’s it’s pretty cool, you know. My my only thing was just, you know, get to get to play in the NFL. That’s that was my goal. So, everything else that kind of comes is guess cherry on the top. How often does your grandmother give you advice? Not too often. So, obviously when she says something, I’m going to be listening.

Quarterback Josh Allen addressed the media after practice on Wednesday October 22nd. Topics include: coming off the bye week, finishing drives, building off positives the offense has had so far, not losing three straight, avoiding sacks, where the team is in terms of becoming close with each other, his phone call with his grandma, what makes WR Khalil Shakir so good, and his high school naming the football field in his honor.

  1. My respect and appreciation for Joshua Patrick Allen is truely off the charts!
    Simply love the guy.
But I can't take in all those "Gotta do your job", "Follow the process" and " Being 1/11th" any longer.
This team is wasting the prime years of Allen.
With a HC that clearly hasn't what it takes to bring a much deserved Lombardi to this franchise.
Nine years in, this becomes painstakingly clear and everyone who doesn't realise this by now is outright dellusional.
And it also becomes more and more obvious that another guy I used to hold up in high regards is a solid part of the general problem: Brandon Beane.
Uncovering, drafting and help developing Allen is a huge feather in his cap.
Building a solid offensive line around him and adding a Thurman-Thomas sort of franchise back is marvelous as well.
    But in terms of:
    – balancing the roster
    – adding blue chip players on all levels via draft, trade or free acancy
    – helping build a dependable, solid, complementary defense
    – adding experienced, veteran coordinators on offense and defense
    – help solidify a greater scheme on offense and defense to remain sustainable successful
    – constantly managing the salary cap effectively like other perennial contenders do
he is as above average as Sean McDermott is as a head coach.
But above average doesn't get you rings.
    Now, don't get me wrong:
I've been on board since the 90's and like all of you out there had to endure some really crappy teams during the drougth years.
So everything on since 2017 has been night and day and I really do appreciate that.
But – and it's a HUGE BUT – if you truely want to maximize a generational talent by the name of Allen
that might never be found again in terms of potential and skills, you have to do better than that.
    Way better actually.
If you are fine with being in the playoffs year in and year out with an exit in the divisional round and sometimes the championship round – McDermott/Beane are for you.
But if you really want to aim for the stars and collect that elusive Super Bowl ring, there is NO way it will be done with these two calling the shots.
Now, Mr. Pegula won't abondon this operation nine years in, with eight playoff berths to show for and from his persepective
he might not even be wrong to steady keep the boat floating instead of demolishing it and bringing in a different bunch of Captains and Majors to aim for the big prize.
But some 10 years from now, people will seriously wonder what could have been with a Veach/Reid/Spagnuolo type of operation
when Josh hangs up his cleats having shattered every single Bills QB record but without any hardware to show.
He still might get his gold jacket simply because of the records and stats he will have amassed by then.
But – like Jim Kelly – will remain ringless.
It's the utmost humiliation: Having the guy in the house but simply lacking the proper operational personnel to make the most out of it.
And it looks like Josh is NOT alone.
Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson might walk a similar alley and will have also little to show for when they call it quits some 10 years down the road.
But Joe AT LEAST made it to the big dance once…

  2. Lets go BUFFALO ❤️ 🤍 💙 I trust this team will turn this around. Were 4-2 ppl, not 2-4, keep the faith, anything can happen, it's still early 👌

  3. I wanna see a 300 yd, 3 td kinda game. These scrub qbs are doing it weekly. Josh seems to be living in the 200 1/1 territory lately… not that it matters but they need to turn Allen loose more
