NHL Highlights | Red Wings vs. Sabres – October 22, 2025

Paris Brian and Joanne are here and we are underway in Buffalo. Red Wings start their top line. Larkin, Finny, and Raymond up against the fourth line of the Savers, Kjak, Krebs, and Malenstein. Red Wings have won five consecutive games. All over quality opponents, the Maple Leafs, twice, the Panthers, the Lightning, and the Oilers. Icing is waved off. Sabres have won two of three after an 0 and3 start. Owen Power moves the puck ahead into the Red Wing zone. The boom had a penalty. Now Lindy Ruff starting the fourth line for the Sabres. Valenstein good job outside inside on Edmonson. Red Wings have killed off 10 straight. Rasmus Dallene straight away as the Sabres set things up. Gibson the stop looking for the puck. He’s got it. Now it’s Dene again. Slides it to his right for Zucker. Back out to Dene straight away. Now to the far circle and a glove save is made by Gibson. Sabres with the extra attacker for another minute 20. Benson down low. Pass across and Gibson makes the stop. Setups for this top unit for Buffalo. This time they work it down low to Zooker. And Thompson’s on the weak side. That was Osl looking for his first NHL goal. Puck comes out in front and is handled by Gibson. Red Wings without Patrick Kane tonight due to injury. Sable missing a number of players off the turnover shot by Tuck miss the net. It’s not like a forwarder defenseman where you go get a body on somebody. You are at the mercy of the opposition. Galian fires that stop by Gibson. He was terrific for Florida down the stretch back in the 2023 playoffs. Saved by Ellis on the first Red Wing shot attempted by Casper. Firearm, shoots fly. [Applause] Red Wings finally clear the zone and then the lead pass for Casper moving in and is stopped by Ellis and credit to him. I mean he’s had a lot of puck handles. We look at our AT&T connected cam. A lot of puck handles to kind of stay in the period and stay with it. And this puck’s rolling on Casper not able to get it up but a minute 42 remaining on the Benson Minor as the Red Wings win the draw. Bowser with the puck. Kulique with that last attempt centering the Sabres top line in the absence of Josh Norris. This is Bergin for the Red Wings. Kicked out by Ellis out in front. They score. So the Red Wings able to capitalize and take a one- nothing lead. JT Comfort, but Beerren makes a smart play off this rush here. just looking to put it off the pad for a rebound opportunity and from there Detroit’s able to regain it. Johansson quickly gets it to the net. He doesn’t waste time and that allows Coner to get body position on Mets and makes a a real nice move around the goalender to put it in the empty cage. But a smart play by Barren to hit the net and then they get the puck retrieval from there. They trail one- nothing as Benson starts back up ice crisscrossing with Thompson. Thompson plays the puck into the Redwing zone. looks to put a move on. Backhand shot knocked down by Gibson. Feels like Mario Lemieux to me at times. The size, the reach. Look at this. Right through the legs, backhand toe drag. And he gets a lot on that back end. That’s a good save by Gibson. That’s just a tremendous He mentioned the size. That’s exactly what it reminds me. You see how he pulls out around for Koulique. Clark in out of the box. Tuck fires off the post. Red wings back to full strength. That shot blocked on the way in. Picked up by Edmonson. Outland pass. And now a breakaway. Backhand shot. Larkin stopped by Ellis. That’s the second breakaway he has stopped. Larkin just gets lost. sees the guy out of the box and Edmonson with a great pass to the far blue line. There’s Appleton beaten to the puck. Mason Appleton off to a good start for the Red Wings. Long time Winnipeg Jet. Nice pass by Quinn. Here’s Zucker who returns for Quinn to Zucker. He scores. Patient Sucker ties the game at one. Ability to make plays and cash in when he doesn’t get a ton of opportunity. There’s a heck of a play through the neutral zone. A little interchange with Jason Zooker. And not an easy play. Oneider slows that puck down. Shane, it almost feels like the play is closing on Quinn, but the ability to still make the play under pressure and get it back to Z. Yeah, great patience. Get it back. It’s interesting. Those two have Pass is picked off by Mloud. Now moving in and chipping it off the bar and into the netting is Josh Don. Play coming in, but it starts with Mloud in the neutral zone. Really good stick. Reads the play, creates the turnover and then just a little foot pass ahead as Don able to get behind with speed. He makes the right play he wants. He knows he’s in tight. Has to elevate this short side and just catches the the Jays. It’s But it’s funny now everybody’s a Blue Jays fan. I never heard you guys all all year or all through the years, you know. How do you define you guys? Score closer. 2-1 Savers. [Applause] Really rough. He likes the pace of his team to play straight ahead as they come across the blue line and just getting the puck to that. able to shovel it and a great play as Kak takes the feed. Said he’s playing on that line as Quinn finds him way back to the room and Kak the reward of a Quinn pass as he puts it past Gibson. So Zack Quinn with a couple of points tonighting on both Sabres goals down to the final two minutes of this middle period. Lock it out in front. Score. Bang bang pass play and the finish by Finny. His third goal in the last two games. The Red Wings have tied it. Aside from a couple of breakaway chances, really haven’t had sustained offensive zone time, but they’re able to exit their zone cleanly. And Larkin just buys some time and just hangs on to it until we can find Finny coming late. And the Savers not able to sort it out. And a nice pass and a beautiful finish by Finny. Well, Coner and Finny for the Red Wings. Zucker and Kak for the Sabres. All the goals coming in the second period. And now the third is underway with Alex Tuck deflects the puck in deep. We are told Zucker will not return due to an upper body. Agree. Tuck with a shot. Missed the net. Puck comes back out to Mets. Slides it across now. Tuck once again off the post. Miss for Tuck. And then the second chance here Shane by now. Mloud. Here’s Pyram. Mloud along the goal line. Back out for a shot and score on the power play. The Sabres take a three-2 lead. Fired home by Jack Quinn. It’s his third point of the night. Byron kind of plays a rover on this power play in the slot out. Watch as they rotate this around. Powers up top. He’s going to shoot down and then Quinn rolls up into that one time. Great screen by Tuck in front. Great movement by the Sabres. And a gate great end result as Quinn, what a night he has had as he puts it in to give the Sabres a lead. Yeah, Tuck never moved from the front of the net there. Here comes the Brink. Now Casper cuts to the middle. Casper backhand pass across. Oh, that somehow did not cross the goal line. Hit the crossbar on the Dinket attempt. Making timely important saves and Ellis has done that tonight. His biggest of the night on de Brink. Edmonson tied up by Tuck. Good work by the Sabres to keep the puck alive. Here’s Timonss now. Mloud shot from the left circle. Score. Mloud with the setup. Dome fires it home. And the Sabres now lead four to two. Keeps it a one-goal game. And then they go down the other end. The Sabres do. And it’s Dome that’s able to get this to the net with some traffic in front. And it sneaks through John Gibson. But if the goalender doesn’t do his part at one end, it doesn’t allow for this. Shane, here’s Larkin out to the point. Cider Cider cuts towards the net. Shoot. Saved by Ellis. Another good save. Here’s Sand Dean Pelica to the far side. Shot stopped by Ellis. And then another save on Appleton. Sandine Pelica with it. Save by Ellis on Saggard. Massive timely saves in this game. He’s had a big piece of this victory. It’s been a good game for the Sabres. One final stop by Ellis. He wins his NHL debut. [Music]

Jack Quinn scored the game-winning early in the third period on the power play and added two assists as the Buffalo Sabres beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-2, ending their five-game winning streak.

  1. Nice first win for Elis and goal for Doan. It looked like Detroit where a bit gased. Hope they can get a good days rest and then continue racking up wins. Would love to see both these teams in the playoffs this year.

  2. Wasn’t able to watch, but just seeing 5-1 PP opportunities, I have to assume Detroit was outskated from the opening draw. Buffalo has looked a lot better recently. LGRW. Come back better next game

  3. 5:36 Everyone is a Blue Jays fan now. Bunch of bandwagon riders. If you're not going to a tonne of games during the long season, I don't want to hear you say a thing in the postseason. You're not a fan. I can't stand bandwagon fans.

  4. Wow … didn't watch the game , checked at 2nd intermission to see tied score , just assumed Sabres were about to lose again … watching the highlights here , Sabres had so many chances to score , been saying for years they can't find the back of the net , but , hey they are showing promise … good hustle throughout , Ellis looked great … good win
