Trouble Brewing Between the Phillies and Bryce Harper! 😨

Q. Um, you might get petty during this segment because, you know, when before there, you know, there’s smoke, there’s fire type of thing, right? And and I’m smelling some some smoke here with the Philadelphia Phillies and Bryce Harper. All right. So, last week Dave Drowski took to the podium, ended the season press conference, and whether or not you agreed with Dave Dumbass, I know last week you you were fine with what he had to say, Hugh, I think we would agree that it was not normal, right? Like it was not the kind of thing you would if if before the press conference I would have said to you he would have said he fired a salvo. Yeah. And and really it was odd because in 6 years with Bryce Harper here they have never publicly said he’s anything but everything they ever wanted. And last week let’s hear it last week Dave Dumbrosski he he changed the conversation with the Phillies and Bryce Harper. Here it was. In Bryce’s case of course he’s still a quality player. He’s still a all-star caliber player. uh he didn’t have an elite season like he has had in the past and I guess we only find out if he becomes elite or he continues to be good. I mean there it’s not like he’s like if you say to me uh I look around the league I was trying to think Freddy Freeman it’s a really good player right he still is a good player is he elite like he was before probably not to the same extent and so that’s nothing nec you know Freddy’s a tremendous player and that’s to me is Bryce can he rise to the next level again I I don’t really know that answer I mean and really he’s he’s the one that will dictate that more than anything else. I mean, it’s what it comes down to. So, um I don’t think he’s content with the year that he had. And again, it wasn’t a bad year, but when I think of Bryce Harper, you’re thinking elite, right? You’re thinking one of the top 10 players in baseball. And I don’t think it fit into that category. But again, very good player. I I have no idea when you see somebody I have seen guys that his age again he’s not old that um level off or I’ve seen guys rise again. So in a very diplomatic Dave Dumbrosski button he ain’t the cat he used to be that what he said you translated it but that’s what he said. So that’s basically what he said. You know, we all wondered. So, there was a lot that to unpack last week. Some people liked it. Some I I I didn’t think I it was the right thing for an executive to do whether or not it was true or not. It was telling it. And now what we all wondered was what’s the reaction going to be? Well, we got it yesterday through his agent. I mean, but come on. Scott Boris responded yesterday. Christian Red, baseball journalist. He got quotes from Scott Boris, who’s the the agent in baseball, of course, Bryce Harper’s agent. Here are some of the quotes as Boris responds to Dumbrski. quote, “I agree that Harper missed time due to injury and that his volume was down, but other than that, Bryce Harper is performing at an elite level on a number of characteristics that we keep track of.” He talked about expected baseball stats, exit velocity, all the things they look at. Boris is saying, “No, no, no, Dave. He’s still an elite player.” He also added this Hugh, and this is where where my antenna went up. quote, “I don’t think that Dave or John, obviously Nebraske Bryce Harper not being a Philadelphia Philly for the rest of his career.” So, Scott Boris chose yesterday to respond to Dave Dumbrosski, Hugh, and then throw out, I don’t think anyone’s thinking about trading him. In six years, nobody has talked about trading Bryce Harper. In fact, other than me coming up with a hypothetical three summers ago about Juan Stoodto, no one has ever uttered, whether it be the Phillies, whether it be Boris, whether it be a reporter, no one has uttered the words, trade Bryce Harper in six years. And I’m starting to connect some dots here, Hugh. Two weeks ago, whatever it was, a week and a half ago, Ruben Amaro threw out the idea that they could a big bigname player. Bigname player on our show, Devin, her thought when she heard she was co-hosting with him was maybe that was Bryce Harper. You you thought it could make some sense. Then Dumbrosseski. Now Bor like where is Boris coming from with nobody’s expecting a trade here. Like there is something going on between the Phillies and Bryce Harper. And if you’re ignoring it, that’s on you. You know, as I sit here, Joe, I I wish I had the time to do what the kids call mind my tweets, okay? And go back and and comment on the all the individuals that had the nerve and audacity to say that it was an asinine thought of mine at the end to throw out stats to me and all this other stuff. Listen, this is where stats don’t mean a damn thing. You listen to what’s being said and all y’all can kiss my ass right now because I that take that I had like all the rest of my takes are fire. Well, I don’t know about all but this one. And and and for that for certain individuals that had something to say about me having this take, you could really kiss my my tushy. I’m I ain’t going to give you too many asses right now. Yeah. Yeah. Cuz I saw a lot of people starting to look up when I said that. But this is where, you know, when you talk about having a take or or or or or or thinking outside the box, nothing is off limits here. And when you say people have stupid takes, stuff like that, you end up making yourself look stupid. So, kiss kiss my butt. Okay. Well, I got one more for you. Joel Sherman and I I would say, Hua, in terms of like the insiders in baseball, I’m trying to mine these tweets for all the people. Oh, that was a terrible tweet. Well, I want I want to play one more for you while you mine those tweets. Joel Sherman, one of the better baseball insiders, right, for a long time now. Listen to Joel Sherman on his podcast yesterday talking about Bryce Harper, the Phillies, Dumbousski, Boris, and what could happen this off season. Clearly Dumbousk’s comments. Dumbrosski’s been around way too long to have said that without having some meaning behind it. I I continue to wonder if the meaning is the player is unhappy with his contract and this was a kind of side glance back at you know I could take some shots here too you know uh if you’d like me to do that why don’t we both settle down I mean I don’t know like I I that’s pure speculation but uh would I be 100% shocked if Bryce Harper got traded this off season? No. that that one again, six years he’s been here, other than me on my evening show four years ago coming up with a hypothetical. No one has in in any space in baseball that’s a reporter that actually like is reporting has connected those words in six years. No one has ever thought of Bryce Harper getting traded. No rumors ever been out there. All of a sudden, in a week and a half, all these things are popping up. Hugh, I got my eye on this Bryce Harper thing and I don’t know how where it goes from here, but if you this is something something is going on here between the Phillies and Bryce Harper and if I had to guess, I think it is about the contract. I think what he said publicly two years ago, remember he wanted the new contract. Who knows how often Boris has been bothering them behind the scenes about getting this contract and they’re tired of it and they’re like, “We’re not paying you. You got to deal with And now this is becoming a public coming out and saying exactly what he said about his his stats being down justifying him not getting a contract. And listen, this is what this is what’s about to happen cuz I know it’s about to happen now. People are going to start flooding my timeline talking about well you know Joel Sherman’s been talking out the side of his neck for years. Okay, Joe Sherman also has been a reporter in this game for years and he probably knows more than you do and is has boots on the ground when it comes to stuff like this. So my point is don’t discredit people that know more than you do. you’re sitting at your house or whatever or playing with your children, you know, and and you got people out there that do this every day and they’re talking about it. So, I suggest you do this. Make a pick a side. Either you going to play with your kids or you going to do the job that you’re supposed to do. You know what I mean? But you can’t have it both ways. That was vague enough, wasn’t it? It was a little vague. I I think so. Um I won’t get in trouble for that one. I think you’re good. I think you’re good. Um let me get You like analogies, right? Ass. You like analogies, right? Yes. Okay. We like Do we an acknowledge some You ever been out, you could just be observing or you’re with another couple, right? Yes. And if they look like they’re fighting in public, it’s probably a fight and and and it’s probably worse behind the scenes. So, it doesn’t mean that couple’s going to get divorced, but if I told you that couple got divorced 5 years later, would you would it surprise you? No. Or 5 months later. Like, when people publicly start going at it, something’s off. And this is the first time in six years it’s been anything but Bryce Harper, you know, is is basically going to die in this uniform. Kyle, what do you make of this? Because I I got I officially now after the Boris comments and after Joel Sherman there, I have my eye on the Bryce Harper Philly situation. Yeah, I don’t know how you could think it’s it’s nothing at this point or like a non-story. I’m definitely with you on that. Do you or does part of you wonder if maybe this stuff, not not the Joel Sherman thing, but the public comment from Drowski and now the public comment from Scott Boris is is posturing about the contract extension and and it rubbed I think they’re I think the Phillies are tired of him. It’s probably Boris behind the scenes continue to press them and they’re like, “No, man. We’re not paying him anymore.” And it rubbed it rubbed Rry the wrong way. That’s what it feels like to me. Like ultimately, if you ask me if I think he’ll be traded this off season, I’d say no. And if you ask me if I would consider trading in this offseason, I would say no. But is it is it worth monitoring? Is this a situation that like we should take seriously? I I don’t I don’t know how you can think otherwise to be honest. Yeah. Well, your head is in the sand if you don’t. I mean, or or somewhere else your head is. It’s a situation. I mean, again, out of your head. No, I’m just saying, man, because I Yeah. While you while you while you think about what you’re going to say, I’ll go back to what I said last week on this. I I just want to say it again very clearly. Could you ever imagine Howie Roseman getting to the podium after a season? And and and let’s pretend in this scenario Jaylen Herz was asking for a new deal, which we have never heard, but let’s pretend he was and how he gets to the podium and says Jaylen Herz when I think of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL, he ain’t one of them. May he was there once. Maybe he’ll get back there. That’s up to him. This place would melt down if he did that. But that did it. But that’s also not the comment of a guy who’s preparing to move the guy. I I agree. I agree. It’s not a sales job by itself. It’s not a good one. It’s not a sales job, Kyle. But here’s what it is. You know that that comment is going to invoke some kind of response like Boris. Absolutely. Because it’s it’s like and you have to be like it’s almost like this. Okay. Toilet seat analogy again. Here we go. If if you people are eating lunch. No. Okay, that’s a bad one. Okay, we’ll we’ll walk that one back cuz people are eating. Okay, it’s an analogy where if you’re you’re with your significant other, right? And you know that if you say something about something that she’s done that you don’t like, you know it’s going to create argument, right? But you’re prepared for wherever the argument goes at that point. You’ve you’ve Oh, you’ve rolled your sleeves up. You basically you rolled your sleeves up to say, “Hey, listen. Let the chips fall where they may, but I’mma say what I have to say. That was the rascal. That’s what I’m saying. Just like, okay, this is a better analogy. It’s like loading the dishwasher. Your your wife or your significant other tells you she’s tired of you not loading the dishwasher, right? So, you come home and you take a stance and you take you just leave all the dishes in the sink. You know what I’m saying? And and you know that she she told you to load the dishwasher and you just say, “You know what? Let the chips fall with their mistake.” But yeah, that’s what you’re doing. I mean, while while we’re talking about the dishwasher, you know, you know what the problem in my house with the dishwasher? It’s the way I load it is not like So, we have a very easy understanding. I just if I won’t load it then, right? I’m going to load it my way or we’re just not going to I’m the only one that loads it because my my my daughter does not believe in why she races. That seems like a problem. All right. 21592 94. I was just going to say asking Hugh to not use a toilet seat analogy is like asking a fish not to swim. I know it was I would but I cleaned it up because everybody kind of looked like you but I lost. It’s a credit where it it really what I saw there was a credit to how many people are here with us at the deco food hall. If this place was half full I think you would have barreled through with it. This place is packed. Yeah it is. And they kind of looked at me like really like now lunch. We know you’re an idiot but seriously is delicious and you’re going to ruin it. Similar to your your analogy they knew what they signed up for by going there. They true they did. Is that what it was? And the Phillies now know what they signed up for. Boris for 13 years. Oh yeah. And you know, you know Boris is going to bring that heat. You know, you know what type of agent he is. It was a matter of time. Yes. So, you know what I can’t wait for now? I I imagine the next Drowski will probably speak at the either the the GM meetings or the winter meetings in the next month or so. You know, the first question is going to be your response to Scott Boris response. I mean, that’s where we’re that’s the that’s where we’re at now. I got my eye on this price for

Last week Philadelphia Phillies General Manager Dave Dombrowski called out Bryce Harper for no longer being an elite player. Well, Harper’s agent Scott Boras has responded to this and has some damning things to say about his client and the Phillies. The WIP Midday Show believes something is going on behind the scenes between Harper and the Phillies!

  1. Not good for him to be the franchise player 13 years $330 million since 2019. He came here to win a World Series and have failed 4 years in a row.

  2. I think Harper isn't happy with the moves this team has made to stay competitive. But I don't think he's looking to leave the Phillies, which is why Dave's comments were a slap in the face.

  3. Do not give Harper new contract. As much as I enjoyed him being monster at plate few years ago, he is not that player anymore. I mean we are only few months removed from his wrist injury that is chronic and possibly limit his playing time going forward.

  4. It's all contract negotiation posturing. I'd trade him straight up for Freeman right now, and I love Bryce. I'm a Phillies fan first. No extension, period. Not even if he is the MVP next year. Too many years left. If he's still competitive in six years, he can come back on a one year deal at that time with a club option.

  5. Man hugh really has to let go of these tweets. It is hard to watch. He is letting all these people on twitter live in his head rent free. He talks for a living and gives his opinion. He is on twitter for those reasons and people on twitter are going to have there own opinions about what he says. This is far from the first time i've seen him get hung up on people over tweets.

  6. Just to remind yall they were a last place team from 2013-2018…
Talking bottom 5 in baseball bad.
Harper could’ve gone anywhere. He turned the franchise from drek to a destination. Ohtani & Trout never got the Angels in the freakin playoffs lol. Both in their primes as well there at points. Bryce has won an MVP, helped attract guys like Trea , Realmuto, Schwarber , Casty, Wheeler, and others that’ve been a core of winning baseball. There’s no ā€˜22 pennant without him or no near World Series without him. Gimmie a break…
He still had a good season , not great , not very good, but still good. It was the lowest ROI since he’s been in Philadelphia. He’s had 6 phenomenal years prior. There’s still a lot in the tank. Dombroski has done nothing but hurt this franchise & his asinine comments continue to do so…

  7. He got his huge contract and didn't come through. Ok if he gave philly a ring then yes pay the man but he hasn't showed up in playoffs for how many years now? Sorry love Harper but just telling the truth

  8. The guy always seems to have a health problem. And it's used as an excuse. Harper is in decline. As is. Nola. Wheeler. Castellonis bohm. Turner. Marsh. Roberson. J T. Remoto and painter is a big question mark. The. GM. Needs to be fired

  9. The guy is done as a top player. He's now a good player with wrist issues. Go sign the next one. We got his best and it was amazing but those days are over.

  10. This is missing so much context. What was the question Boras was asked that he responded about not expecting to be traded. I doubt he just said that out of the blue

  11. I Guess Dombrowski Can Say He Had A Elite Year When Clearly He Didn't Needed Him To Show Up Big In One Game In The Playoffs Didn't I Guess He Could Look Like Aaron Glenn Of The Jets And Be A Laughing Stock When He Said Justin Fields Was Comparable To Lamar Jackson And Josh Allen

  12. I was beyond ecstatic when the Organization signed him, as a season ticket holder for over 15 years, I was more than fine with the deal they gave him. I’ll admit I thought it was not a good look that Boras was asking for an extension going into this season. I still think he’s an above average player, if he gets traded, I can guarantee the Phillies I won’t be renewing my ticket plan. He didn’t have a great postseason this year, but I’m certainly not one of the Phans ready to move on from MV3

  13. He's overpaid, doesn't deserve an extenion, regular season performance ok, but post season disappointing. Now there's going to be a team chemistry problem & media problem. He's in decline…
Freeman, Betts, ect, did not get to end their careers with Braves, Redsox. Why should Harper get to stay in Philly. He's more of a (me) player rather than (we) player. Go look at the organizations Dombrowski was GM for, Marlins, Redsox, Tigers…
Lot of big name players got traded. Won WS w/Marlins, Redsox, lost w/Tigers & your Phillies. His track record speaks for itself. The window has closed. Next year the same roster could be hit with a lot of season long injuries. Sign of an Old team aging out.

  14. 98% of people here if they signed a contract at work and 3 years later found out 30 other coworkers were making 5x s their pay would be bitching and moaning everyday til they got a raise or they’d quit. People are fraudulent as hell

  15. Heu, you’re better than that. ā€œMind them tweetsā€, screw those tweets.
Dude, you’re the man. Don’t even think about those tweets.
It’s possible they trade him. That’s it. He’s older now.

  16. Harper has been a major post season disappointment for the last 3 years! Of course his agent gonna say he is elite! He isn’t Elite anymore. DD is correct!

  17. Harper's a scumbag. He teased the DC fans, told them he wanted to play his whole career there, then signs, for pretty much the same money, a hundred miles up the road in the same division.
Got instant karma one that…. Nats win the WS the next year. Any team would be crazy to sign him.

  18. Bro, what are you talking about? I don't think there's anything wrong with Dave's comments or Scott's comments. He's not being traded. There are other big names on this roster as well. You're making smoke out of gas from your vegetarian ass. lol and lets not use Devan and Ruben as sources as if they have any inside knowledge. Love you Devan
