“An Absolute Nightmare” – Rich Eisen on the Injury-Filled Start to Jayden Daniels’ Commanders Season

Dan Quinn just announced it’s Marcus Mariota on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead. What an absolute nightmare of a first half of a season it has been for Jaden Daniels coming off of his unicorn rookie campaign where he was an absolute revelation and a non-stop yards and points and hope machine in the Mid-Atlantic area for the commanders and you know the Daniels McLuren connection put on the rocks by a um a hold out. And again, I listen, we never hear, we never talk about when a hold out turns into something just fine, right? Um last year CD Lamb, right? Didn’t he have a good year even though Dak got hurt? Yeah, I mean pretty much. But McLaren, usually when you hold out, some sort of soft tissue injury sets in because yeah, you’re not around or things your your off seasonason isn’t the same, training camp isn’t the same, and you know, a quad injury that appears to be worse than that has kept him out for a month. And Jaden Daniels coming back after tweaking his knee in a week two loss in Green Bay after a week one against the Giants looked pretty choppy. Then he misses a couple weeks, comes back with a knee brace. His best game was against the Chargers here in Los Angeles when when things looked kind of like last year, and then um he gets twisted up in in the pocket wearing that brace. I don’t know if that had anything to do with it, but can’t help. And uh he doesn’t finish the game in last week’s loss to Dallas. Dak looked terrific and they looked like the second best team in the division, if not potentially the best because they gave the Eagles quite the game in week one. And you know, CD Lamb, as we just heard from Kurt Warner talking about how terrific Dak looks, CD Lamb says this is the best offense he’s been on as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. Pickings is doing it. Uh Ferguson is doing it, tight end. Javvante Williams is doing it and Dak is doing it. and the line is doing it and they’re holding up their end of the bargain. Yes, they are. In Dallas this year and in Washington just a disaster of a first half of a season. Well, I guess I shouldn’t call it that way. You want to look at disaster, look at a winless Jets team or what’s going on with the Dolphins or uh any one- win team in the NFL right now entering week eight. Maybe a disaster because more was expected from that. Well, it just it it has been um yes, that’s one way to put it. Um, and it’s just have been fits and starts and injuries. And now, just as the Chiefs look as good as they’ve looked in anytime over the last several years, the Commanders have to go on a Monday night into Arrowhead with Marcus Mariota. Good luck. No, Jaden Daniels and who knows about McLaren. And the Washington Commanders buy isn’t until week 12. So, there’s not even that by-week around the corner to help them out. That’s the latest on Daniels. And it is just um after this game at Kansas City, home for Seattle on a on a on a Sunday night, then Detroit before that game in Madrid against the Dolphins, then the by-week, and then Denver on a Sunday night, and then at Minnesota. not looking. I I mean, a lot of folks were pegging because you go from one year to the next of which team is not making the playoffs that made it last year. Some were pegging the Commanders. I’m like, I want to see what Daniel’s going to do in year two. Yeah, they were a prime target. I think I I kind of said that before the year two looking at the schedule and it’s looking like right now. Year two regression maybe for the rookie, but don’t want to see it happen like this. I mean, outside of the visit to Madrid to take on the Dolphins, what what do you look there and go, well, that’ll be something that they can they can have some good eats, get right game, you know, at the Giants is not one of those right now at all. You know, then next hour we’ll talk about how Shawn Payton’s talking about how uh the new quarterback there is better than the one that he replaced, which led to a comment from Russ that’s coming up in hour two. Um, and so, uh, red alert or burgundy alert right now. Burgundy alert for the Washington Commanders. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. 1. But JJ McCarthy is alright? Vikings are alright? Mf barely played in two games in two seasons and looked pretty bad. How is their situation not a nightmare?

  2. I preferred Caleb to Jayden primarily due to Jayden's likelihood of injury. People were calling it pre-draft.

Amazing rookie year is a warning sign for Washington QBs.

  3. Wow Rich. After over 50 years on this earth, and being from New Jersey, I finally realized what Mid Atlantic really means! It's that inferior part of i 95. That's! Lol

  4. If Washington can't have Daniels, McLauren, and Samuel all healthy at the same time, they are doomed this year. The Chiefs game is going to be ugly to watch.

  5. Anyone who thinks that Dallas gave the eagles a run in the 1st game is a idiot. Prior to the weather delay we got momentum from the miles Sanders fumble, had the weather delay not happened we'd have dog walked them worse than we did cause apparently 158 yards rushing with 3 rushing tds is playing well 😂

  6. Is anyone surprised that durable franchise level dual threat QBs are as rare as unicorns? Is anyone surprised with a number of the "second/third" chance QBs playing franchise level ball at the position AFTER enough years at the position to actually learn it? Personally I think JJ is a bust, but last year for Drake Maye was heaven sent plus he is with one of the organizations where you want to be as a young QB with that kind of potential.

  7. It is worth noting, since he was back against the Chargers, Daniels has looked the same as last year. Ball in his hands, he drives the team down the field. Rain and poor ball security murdered them against the Bears that they otherwise outperformed and the Defense has just allowed teams to run rampant.

  8. Like I said months ago, don’t be surprised if Jayden gets hurt this season. RG3 was the #2 pick by Washington. He was a running QB who won Rookie of the Year. Once he got hurt and was never the same. History tends to repeat itself.

  9. And now the Chiefs will roll over yet another team that either stinks or is missing key players and everybody will be glazing them for how they are back.

  10. This is another example of the media overreacting to a great rookie season ala cj stroud. We’ll see in a few seasons how good he is. As of right now he is wildly overrated.

  11. Stroud and now Daniels. Need to be careful proclaiming these rookie QBs as outstanding after just their first year. Be careful same thing with Dart with Giants.

  12. Yeah, Rich sees the potential in Jaxson Dart, but when he sees it, he's not remembrin' those that did NOT reach their potential. As a Browns fan, I'll say Johnny Manziel. Dart is not a home run yet.

  13. Thank you for not underselling the title, because it was a nightmare for the fan-base, very triggering. It was not fun to see how instant of a reaction it was, but as a longtime WAS fan I felt the sentiment.

  14. As a commander's fan this sums up the issues right now from watching games:

    1) are D sucks… Lattimore sucks…the d line is ok…LB are ok. The back end…mostly sucks bad. Bad tackling too.

    2) turnovers. mainly fumbles . It's causing us to lose in those close games that we won last year. But not this year

    3) Injuries. Think we are like one of the oldest teams by age in the NFL they were hoping that they could win now with a whole bunch of veterans. It did not pan out.

    Positives:

The moment's Daniels has been healthy he has been just like his self last year he's really good …minus the fumbles.

We kind of all understand as commander's fans that last year was kind of ahead of schedule. there's a lot of rebuilding to be done on the team there's a lot of holes we just had a good schedule and won alot of those close games last year and had also momentum.

When Daniel's got drafted last year we all thought that it would be 2-3 years before the playoffs. We were all enthusiastic surprised with what happened. I feel like in the future things are gonna be differbut there's a lot of holes to be filled on this team even since last year.

  15. I seriously hope Scary Terry can play and make a huge difference this week, it's looking like he may be back. And yeah, playing in Arrowhead ain't no joke. Almost as bad as playing in Green Bay.

  16. I didn’t think it was possible to hate a team more than the eagles, but I think I hate KC more. They are annoying as sh!t. I couldn’t even watch the super bowl because the 2 most vile teams were playing. It was miserable…

  17. Teams don't appreciate that when they play hardball negotiating with players like McLaurin who then hold out and miss training camp that a lot of them then get injured after not being able to prepare for the season properly. The same thing happened to Aiyuk last season.
