[Music] Ah, and it is Denver Sports tonight on this Tuesday night in the Mile High City. He’s Marello Romano. I’m Will Peterson. We will roll with you for the next hour. Cello. Uh before we get into the Broncos and the wildness that was the Giants game and some news about Dre Greenlaw here in the last half hour regarding his suspension, before we get into all that, you and I just had a fun little chat right before the show started. We are currently watching the NBA on NBC. Yes. What a throwback. Big time. And like I think I don’t know how accurate I am with my dates, but I’m pretty sure Jordan’s last game was on NBC. I think Bob Kostas was, you know, part of that. Uh Ahmad Rashad. I don’t know if it carried over into 99 or 2000, but all the 2000 memories I have is ABC. Well, it left the NBA on NBC after the 2001 2002 season. And you’re right because wasn’t Jordan’s now his last ever game was with the Wizards, but we’re we’re talking about his last ever Bulls game. Was that not the Byron Russell play in Utah? That was it. And did he push off or No. No, I don’t think he did either. No. Like listen, if you watched uh the last dance, he kind of goes through it like he knew that guy the way he defended him that he was already going to go and it’s not like he had I mean he had his hand on him but he didn’t like forcefully push him. So, I don’t know. Like, going back in time, you would have thought, man, talk about way to go out on a mountaintop. But then, like you just brought up, he did play for the Wizards. He did play for the Wizards. But yes, the last game ever on NBC for the NBA until tonight was game four of the 2002 NBA Finals. Uh, I don’t have it in front of me, but I’m going to assume that was a Lakers sweep in the middle of their three. probably sweeping the nets at that point in time would have been my guess. But kind of rare to see something like this. I saw I I don’t watch the Today Show. Shout out to people who do, but I did see they had the band do Round Ball Rock on the Today Show this morning, which is obviously the iconic song. Yes. Yes. Yes. I know it. And there’s video games with it that bring back all kinds of nostalgic memories. And it’s just part of it’s a pretty good question though like that hasn’t been played in how long that song as far as like the NBA on NBC music but we all know it like if we grew if you grew up and you’re somewhere in our age range you know that are there other songs that you remember that are just iconic other than maybe Monday Night Football. I think Carrie Underwood’s taken Sunday Night Football kind of over but I’m trying to think of any other ones. No, it’s got to be the number one theme song of sports of all time, right? Yeah. It just sort of get the juices going and you’re right. You you hear it, you just want to sing along and it’s back. And I think two, first of all, it’s pretty rare that a network doesn’t have a major sport for 24 years. I mean, that’s a massive gap that we’re talking about here. I guess 23 years. And then two, the other part of me is feeling what a lot of fans are feeling, and that’s slightly frustrated that you have to have like 17 different services to be able to watch the NBA this year. Yes. Yeah. That’ll be that’ll make it I mean, uh, it’s the new age of television. It’ll make it a little more difficult for folks, but it’s also some would argue it’s more accessible to them. I don’t know how it goes. I mean, it’s like to you, it’s like to your point, how many different apps do you have on your smart TV? a dozen. You cut the cord, I’m assuming. So, it’s all on smart TV. No, no, I still pay for uh cable as well. I have everything. I don’t I don’t miss anything. But I think if I added up every single number, I’d be a little sticker shocked about what I’m paying every month if you packaged it all together. But it’s like, oh, I get Hulu. Do I get Hul I guess? Yeah. And then I go log into my bank account. It’s like, I paid seven bucks for Hulu last month. Didn’t watch anything. There you go. Yeah. But that will be a uh fun thing to watch this year. Nuggets in action in about 48 hours. Congratulations again to Zack B winning media day MVP today as the media scrimmage against the coaches down there at Ball. Have you ever played in one of those? Uh I played in a Rapids one maybe about 10 years ago. Same here. Which was fun, don’t get me wrong. I mean it was really cool actually. The Rapids did a great job. We got to walk into the locker room and my jersey with my name and number was hanging in my locker. I still have mine too. It was super sweet, don’t get me wrong. But I mean, in hindsight, soccer probably wouldn’t be the sport I’m going to perform. No. And I don’t think a lot of people rolled in knowing how, you know, physically exhausting it was going to be. Yes. Uh when when you do that, basketball is very similar in that sense. And to to Zach’s point earlier, I heard him talking like, and I’m similar too, if it’s competitive and you’re not just playing like horse or something, something about a competition gets you going. And like he said he couldn’t back off playing too, you know, going back to like how he played because that’s the only way he knew how. I get that. All right, we’re going to get to Green Lawn like one minute, but have I told you my story before about my basketball moment in an NBA arena? No. All right, so this was 2013ish. I was working for a company in town and this woman came in and was talking to one of my bosses. You know, don’t think twice about it. And then she says, “Yeah, I’m running promotions for the Nuggets. Do you have anyone who wants to do it tonight?” And my boss just looks at me and goes, “Yeah, Willow will do it.” And I go, “What’s this entail?” They go, “Well, you can win a car.” I’m like, “Heck yeah. Count me in.” So, I get picked to make a layup, a free throw, a three-pointer, and a halfcourt shot in 30 seconds to win a car. Now, the layup, I think I won like tickets or something. the free throw, I don’t know, concession voucher, whatever. The three-pointer, they were honoring the 94 Nuggets that beat the Sonics. You want a signed jersey by the entire team and then half court you want a car. So, I immediately call my buddy. I’m like 23 years old. I’m like, “Dog, we got to go to the gym like right now ASAP.” So, we go practice for for a couple hours over at a local gym. And then we get there, it’s Nuggets, Clippers. I’ll never forget it. Von Miller’s courtside. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin are playing for the Clippers and I have to go out onto the ball arena court in front of 18,000 people. And I’m thinking to myself, just make the layup. Just don’t blow the layup. And I have 30 seconds to do it. Ball gets in my hand, make the layup, no problem. All right, good. Go to the free throw line. And I’m sprinting because I only have a limited amount of time. One dribble, perfect swoosh on the free throw. And that’s when the crowd starts paying attention because they’re like, “Well, this isn’t some scrub, you know? And I get to the three-point line. First three out of my hand. Feels good. Looks good. My buddy Doug Otawa was filming it and he goes, “Got it. Back iron. Just off back iron. Second one. Feels good. Looks good. Back iron. Now I’m chasing rebounds. They don’t have anyone to rebound for me.” Oh. I hit the three at the buzzer to win the signed jersey on my third attempt, which was awesome. I never got to shoot the half court shot for the car because time ran out, but it was pretty cool. And I still have that signed jersey from the 1994 Nuggets. And then I get off the court and my buddy immediately tells me, he goes, “You know, Von Miller was watching you. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin were not paying a lick of attention to their coach’s huddle. They were watching you.” It’s like how many times you get an opportunity to make buckets. Ah, there’s Doug had one that existed for like, you know, this was like or even stills early smartphones and he at one point did have the full 30 secondond video where I hit the three at the buzzer. I should have made a uh stronger effort to hold on to that. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, well, I mean, if it’s right around that time, like you said, smartphones really took off because before it was a flip phone, correct? He was he was taking pictures with his Moto Motorola Razor of you doing this. But I’d never heard that story from you, man. It’s pretty awesome. I just wish that first three had gone and I could have shot from half court for the car. That’s impressive. You ever step on an NBA court and you see how far that three is compared to like when we’re messing around at the wire at the wreck and it’s like high school or college levels threes, which are like just jump shots for NBA players. When you see that from from the the NBA range, it’s it’s impressive, man. So, kudos to you that you that you hit iron. I thought you were going to say it felt good, looked good, and it was short. Way short. No, it was back iron twice. Um, let’s just say I was 23 and young and dumb and it was an 8:00 tip. I had a little liquid courage going on. There you go. Let’s just put it that way. Makes it even that much more impressive than for Well, thank you. Thank you. We got to dig up that video somewhere. I’ll post it on my Twitter if I find it. Uh the news of the hour, this coming out 45 minutes ago from the NFL itself. The vice president of football and communications, Michael Sora, has tweeted that the oneame suspension of Denver linebacker, Dre Greenlaw, has been upheld on appeal. Drelaw will miss Broncos and Cowboys this weekend. He finally gets back on the field, plays 21 snaps, six tackles, and he’s going to have to sit out another game. your reaction to this? Disappointing for sure. I mean, well, let me ask you this. I’ll I’ll respond to you with a with another question. How much did you notice Dre Green Law against the Giants here and there? He had the one big hit on Dart. Uh wasn’t expected. Were you Were you underwhelmed or were you kind of just like this is it’s going to take some time or did you think that you were going to see more? Wasn’t out there a lot. I think he played something like 27% of the defensive snaps. It just wasn’t he, you know, VJ had kind of tipped us off last week part-time. It was it was real part time. He was playing a quarter snaps. Yeah. Quarter time. Part time. Not part time. So like Yeah. It’s disappointing that’s going to happen because you think that that workload would have been increased against a very capable offense that the the Cowboys bring in. I remember back in the summer we were going through the schedule and I told you this Cowboys game was going to be more difficult than you thought. You kind of scoffed at the idea of it. Uh then they go on and they trade Micah Parsons and it’s like wow Cowboys are just they had the shootout with the Giants a couple weeks back where they couldn’t slow down Russ when it was still Russ leading the Giants. So yeah that’s disappointing because you want to have all all you can have defensively to try and slow down what Dak Prescott’s having a phenomenal year dude. I mean, it’s going to the point of like what Joe Burrow was doing last year, but he just has such a porous defense that he’s going to have to continue to put up those Star Wars type numbers for them to be competitive. Sure, they’ve scored 27 or more points in each of their last four games. Uh, a few wins in there, a couple heartbreaking losses as well. But I think with this Green Law suspension getting upheld, Cello, we’ve all seen the video by now, or I would encourage people to go look at denverports.com and and watch it if they haven’t. Shout out CBS4 for getting video of the quote unquote altercation. There’s a couple things to unpack here. First of all, I think if you slow it down, it looks like Brad Allen makes contact with Justin Sternad. Brad Allen’s the referee. Mhm. And I think Brad Allen had had a long day at the office. He had just gotten chewed out by the Broncos and the Broncos staff for that DPI call on Riley Moss. And next thing he knows, he finds himself in the middle of 40 dudes running on the field to celebrate a game-winning field goal. And again, if you slow it way down, he gives Justin Sternad a little bit of an elbow or a little bit of a shoulder. And I think Dre Green Law saw that and exploded. There’s been a lot of speculation that Greenlaw exploded because of the DPI. I think it’s what happened with Stern, but we have seen players, coaches chew out officials before in all sports. You see fines for that kind of stuff. I am just so curious what he said or the chasing down that the NFL put in their press release that led to a suspension. It must have been something vicious. And by the way, the NFL has said that he quote verbally threatened Brad Allen to be a fly on the wall, man, because I don’t think this was a suspendable offense based on what I saw from video alone. I listen and like to your point it has to be something so egregious that and I can’t even imagine what that would be. Yeah. I don’t even want to speculate but it’ have to be about your family or something. Yeah. Still, you think people have said stuff like that and like listen, you might be right that it was on, you know, the tensions were still high because of the DPI call, but that wasn’t really his call, right? He this was the elite official, right? Mhm. He’s the one who just basically relays what everyone else is throwing flags on. He wasn’t the one who threw that flag. I don’t believe he was anyways. I think it was like the back judge, right? It wasn’t even like the sideline guy flag for the ref to throw 40 yards away from him. So, it wasn’t, but it was still like I don’t know if that would warrant Dre Green Law going up to him just because he’s like the staff lead and going off on him. Something else had to have happened. Like, and why are you so upset when the game’s over? Cuz I think it’s because he bumped. That’s why it’s my theory that it’s it’s not the DPI. It’s not Moss. Cuz I’m with you. They just won. Why would Green Law go cuss an official out about DPI when the Broncos just won? I think he’s running on the field. sees this shoulder going to watch it again and defends him. I think like you’re seeing it differently than me. It looked like there was just so many people and like you’re making it seem like he intentionally put a shoulder in there. I’ve gone frame by frame on it. It looks to me like Brad Allen puts a guy going to do to a a linebacker in the National Football League. I mean like Dre Greenlight should have laughed that off too. Something else had to have happened. There’s more to it than I think we’ll ever know for sure. And unless you’re a real great lip reader and you could probably even make some of the, you know, the funny ones that those guys make for that put out on YouTube and stuff, but I don’t know that we’ll ever find out what it was. No, I mean Greenlock can’t talk this week cuz he’s suspended. I assume he’ll get asked about it next week when he’s back. Hey, what did he say? He’s not going to tell you though, unless he wants to tell his side of the story unless he says all I told him was you stink at your job. Like, is that a suspendable offense? No. So, were you watching the ALCS last night? Uh, I was flipping around Monday Night Football in the ALCS. Yes. Eugenio Suarez, the guy that the Mariners traded for, uh, had a big game. I think was it game six that he hit the the bomb game six or game I think it was no, game five. He had the grand slam in game five. Either way, he got called out on strike three. He freaking threw the bat down and was right in the umpire’s face. That seemed much more egregious to me than what I saw out of Drake Greenlaw. and he didn’t get anything. And then he didn’t even get a tossed out of the game. And now Green Law’s got to miss a game. He’s gonna miss a couple hundred,000 in a paycheck. Um I’m going to go 20%. I’m disappointed in Dre Green Law because let’s be honest, the guy hasn’t been available. You got to be available, dude. You can’t do that. But that’s only 20%. 80%. I’m mad at the league and I’m mad at Brad Allen. This does not seem like a suspendable offense to me. That’s my overwhelming reaction. And I’m not just being a Broncos homer. My overwhelming reaction is the NFL doesn’t like the Broncos because of their head coach. And they’re still holding grudges against Shawn Peyton for what happened in New Orleans 15 years ago. And they get officiated differently than every other team. And they get disciplined differently than every other team. And this feels like a overreach based on the video I’ve seen to suspend Dre Green Law for a football game that the Broncos may very well need him as you outlined against a highpowered off. Yeah. And I agree with you. uh like and I don’t even know that I’d put until I hear what was said. This kind of looks like and maybe I could be completely wrong with how I see it or the way that I’m picturing it, but it looks like a bigger, stronger guy went up and called him out and he had the authority with the flag and the the referee jersey that he wears at that point that he’s like, I’m just going to throw a flag on this guy right now after the game was over. Yeah. Like I mean, what else was he going to do? I know, but he passed his flag like an idiot. It’s like, well, it’s 3332 and the clock reads zero. What are you tossing? Well, it ended up with a suspension. That’s why. So, he’s flagging him because he’s like, I’m going to report this to What the hell else was he doing? He was being a little baby. Exactly. But he knew that there would be kind of some kind of repercussion for it, right? If he if he was valid in his complaint, which it appears he is because now this suspension is being upheld. I mean, it’s just it’s just so disappointing as a Broncos fan that Green Law finally gets back. And let’s be honest, six tackles on 21 snaps, that’s that’s pretty darn impressive. That means that nose for the football that he had all those years in San Francisco isn’t gone. You’re right. His play time is probably going to increase to what 45 50% of the snaps against Dallas. It just it feels like every time we take a step step forward with Green Law, we take another step back. And this just feels like another big step. Well, the good news is, will and there’s a silver lining in any in everything is he can’t get hurt next week. True. I don’t think he’s even allowed to practice. I don’t think when you’re suspended, you may, you know, you may be allowed to go get treatment and stuff, but I don’t think tomorrow when uh Andrew Mason’s down there, he’s going to see him on the practice field. Yeah, man. It could be a a blessing in disguise and he comes back even more fired up. I don’t I don’t know. But it is disappointing that you finally got to see him in the Broncos jersey and then it’s so short-lived because one, the amount of the percentage of snaps that he was out there and two because the suspension was upheld and he won’t be out against the Cowboys. Yeah. No, it’s a bummer. So again, if you’re just joining us, Trelaw’s suspension has been upheld, he’ll miss Sunday’s game. The other big news of the day, cello, is Russell Wilson doing something very not Russell Wilsonesque, firing off a ticked off tweet that now has more than 10 million views on Twitter in just about 3 hours or so here. This stems from Shawn Payeyton making some comments postgame about the Giants QB situation, saying, quote, “They found a little spark with that quarterback. I was talking to co-owner John Mara not that long ago and I said, “We’re hoping that that change would have happened long after our game.” Okay, read between the lines. Sean was telling the media, “I told the Giants owner, I wish you had switched quarterbacks after you played us. So, we got to play Russ and not this young upand cominging, very talented rookie who just hung 32 points on us.” Russ never says squat. Russ can talk into a microphone. All Broncos fans know that, but he doesn’t say anything. I watched 20 minute Russell Wilson press conferences for my job. It was like digging through cliche after cliche. It was digging through the trash, digging through the weeds to find a quote to write a story about. But Dane Russell Wilson steps out of bounds this afternoon. Cello. His unlimited quote tweet classless but not surprised. Didn’t realize you’re still bounty hunting 15 years later through the media. Sunglass emoji. Laughing face emoji. # Let’s ride laughing face emoji. So much to unpack from a ticked off benched Russell Wilson holding a clipboard sitting in his locker in New York today. Firing off this tweet called Shawn Payeyton classless. Tells him he’s bountied hunting bringing up bounty gate from all those years ago when Shawn was suspended for the 2020 2012 NFL season. And then just to dig at Broncos fans hits us with a let’s ride. What did you make of this saga? I think it’s weak. Why didn’t where was this Russ in Detroit a couple years ago when he was berating you on the sidelines? Why didn’t you have a backbone then? And like what are you what are you looking to accomplish? Obviously it hurt him. It cut him real deep. It cut him deep. Will because he you’re right. He doesn’t say anything but positivity. Next to Tim Tibo. I don’t know that there’s a more positive person in the world, at least the persona of it, right? That that’s just constant positivity. Uh cliche after cliche. Shawn Peyton said what he said, which was I mean that’s a dig because it’s not only like, hey, we wanted you to keep playing. You’re talking about a rookie quarterback that people still have a lot of questions about and you’re giving him much more praise than the guy that played that you played for a little while ago. So, I think it’s I don’t know what Russ was trying to do, but you can tell it bothered him. It bothered him enough to take to Twitter to try and make a point about it. And all those laughing face emojis that he slammed on that tweet, they might as well be the crying one because his feelings were hurt. And listen, I be I’ll be the first one to say I think Russ’s departure from here, I think he got a bad a little bit of a bad shake on his way out. Uh, I’m not to the James Marilott level, but you know, I kind of defended them him then. But like the fake the fugazi stuff that just ever since well while he was here since he’s left and then to fill it up with the the the let’s ride part, dude. He looks like the weak one here. Just take the higher road. You have for so long. What’s the point? And you you’re at the point now where people are having discussions about you as a player. Have you literally played yourself out of the Hall of Fame and then this bothered you? Well, at the end of the day, it’s well known that Shawn Peyton doesn’t like Russell Wilson. I think clearly the feeling is now mutual. Russell Wilson hates Shawn Peyton as well. And I actually think today uh proves something to me. Cello, I could have been convinced six hours ago that Russell Wilson was still a robot. I’m not sure he’s a robot anymore, right? Cyborg. like today proved that this dude does feel human emotions and like you said his feelings were hurt and that I mean it’s the top headline on ESPN.com. This is not just some Denver story. This is morphed into this national big story. He called Shawn Payeyton class list and he brought up Bounty Gate. I think Russ stepped out of bounds here. I do. Take your medicine, dude. Shawn doesn’t like you. He threw a little dig at you. He told the owner he would rather face you than dart. Is he lying? Do the Giants score 32 points with Russ on Sunday? Absolutely not. Sorry he told the truth. Sorry that you stink. I think Russ looks I’m I’m with you. I think Russ looks uh kind of weak here. Dante, you’re wanting to get in on this, man. Uh yes, I’ve been itching. You guys couldn’t be more wrong. This is the most likable Russell Wilson’s ever been. Really? Standing up for himself, being an actual human being, you know, not being a robot. I’ve never liked him more than right now. Wow. But it comes at the expense of our football coach and our organization. And quite frankly, there’s no expense. He did like a little fans. Our fans, he trolled our fans. He trolled Broncos country with Let’s Ride. He knew exactly what he was doing. But he’s the one that invented Let’s Ride. Everyone’s been trolling him for Let’s Ride for years. I think it’s still just as fake as his here Comes the Airplane. Everything he does seems fake to me, except for maybe his relationship with his family. No, but this tweet doesn’t seem fake. This tweet seems like a race, dude. It’s like it’s like a fake tough guy. Like now I’m gonna talk. You’re a backup quarterback. Hey, he’s standing up for himself. Okay. Like I have no pro like go ahead. I think you look foolish if he were playing well. Like if this were to happen after the game he had against the Cowboys where he threw for like 400 yards and looked like oh damn, Russ is back. But you’re talking about a guy that the next game looked like he had no idea what was going on. Seeing Ghost throwing balls out of the end zone to the point where that head coach, they had a plan going into it. They didn’t want to go to Jackson Dart as early as they did either. His play has spoken for Shawn Payeyton wasn’t wrong. He wasn’t wrong. I mean, look at what the Giants have done since they’ve inserted Jackson Dart in the lineup. Yeah, but he also wouldn’t have said this after the Cowboys game because Shawn didn’t go after him after the Cowboys game. Shawn went after him last My point is is like what what are you going you’re you’re talking as if you’re still Russ in Seattle. You’re not that player anymore. Like you’re not even So he has to have like a status to be able to take a shot at Shawn after Shawn’s taking shots. Listen, you you were you’re probably far too young to remember this, but we’ve seen this happen in Denver before. You remember when Bill Romanowski went to the Raiders? Sure. and Brian Greasie was the quarterback and I think he got hurt or something and Steve Burline came in and Bill Romanowski said the same thing after the game like we we hurt the wrong quarterback because I think like Steve Berlin I don’t think they even end up winning but they made a game out of it. It’s just like that’s when you’re talking about a starting quarterback. He’s just a backup now, man. Like I can’t get on board with Russ anymore. I defended him for as long as I could have. Like this just seems like dude, you’re talking as if you’re like the player that just went to won a Super Bowl and went to another one. That’s not you anymore. All right. Well, you and I are team Sean here. Dante’s team Russ. And well, I just want to clarify. I dislike Russ a lot. When he got traded here, I think I was the only one in the market that was like, I don’t think this is a good trade. I wouldn’t give him the contract. I don’t think he’s a Hall of Famer in the future. All of that. So, I have disliked Russ every step along the way. And this is the first time I’m turning the other way. All right. To be fair, Mike Evans didn’t want to give him the contract either. Got crushed at the time. You and Evans on the same page. All right, coming up next, the Broncos did something on Sunday against the Giants that’s almost hard to wrap your mind around. And I’ll tell you what, on the other side, after getting walked off twice in the first three games of the season, the Broncos walked off the Giants and claim first place in the AFC West. Say it loud, Broncos country. Let’s go, Broncos. Denver Sports 1043, the fan. This is the story of the one. [Music] All right, this uh Russell Wilson conversation getting a lot of traction on the ramlot.com text line. 3037131043. Let me be clear real quick, too. Okay, go for it. I I’m not defending Shawn Peyton, but if somebody did something that was more I don’t know, outside of their personality, who was it? It was Russ talking like he was that young whippers snapper, the dude that just won a Super Bowl and uh had gone to another Super Bowl. Like that’s outside of his personality. You you said it. You the way you prefaced it. You said, “Hey, he doesn’t say anything ever.” Um, and I like I wish he would have done this in Detroit. I wish he would have done something like Bo did against or with Shawn Peyton last year against Oakland. Like that kind of stuff. I think people would have warmed to it. That’s when I would have agreed with you. That’s when I would have been like, but he sat there and just took it. Yeah. If you miss it, Russell Wilson called Shawn Payeyton classless today and told him he was still bounty hunting 15 plus years later. A lot of reaction. What do you mean by that part of it, too? Well, it’s just a Sean made it personal, so Russ is making it personal. Just a knock. It’s just a shot at bounty gate. Yeah. Like, hey, you did all that crap with the Saints and you’re still doing it. Like, you think he’s insinuating that’s what he’s doing inside the Broncos locker room? No, I think he’s just trying to say that was a low point for him, so he’s bringing it up. So, I’m just going to rub your face in it. Gotcha. Uh, by the way, the 4428 asks, “Have they already reviewed the Green Law suspension and upheld it?” Yes, they have. That’s come out in the last hour. Dre Green Law is out for this Sunday against the Cowboys. I don’t agree with it. Cello doesn’t agree with it, but it is what it is. Um, the 4859 says, they send me a gift. The only thing this proves is how much Russ and his team scour the internet. He used to claim he did not read press clippings. Here is your proof. He does. Yeah. I mean, Russ clearly sees a lot. And what was the video that everyone gave him a hard time for? His first ever game at Empowerfield at Mile High. Remember he’s walking out of his mansion. and he’s got like someone opening the door for him and so it’s like dog just go play ball. Just go play ball. I think he had like Versace on. I think he had deals with all these people. Like yeah, it was cringeworthy when he was here. Uh Big Perm says now Russ is going to act like a bleep and stick up for himself from that mean bully Shaunie P. Lol. Yeah, I I mean I said it before, I’ll say it again. Clearly Shawn’s hated Russ for a couple of years and Russ kind of finally got sick of it now. But I’ve made the argument Sean never liked Russ. Remember the whole Super Bowl? I agree with you. They were supposed to have dinner together and who wanted to have dinner with Shawn? Wasn’t it like Joe Montana or something? And he’s like, “No, I’m gonna go talk to Joe Montana, not you?” Like shoo, you know? Like I don’t think the Shawn Russ marriage was ever going to work. I think Shawn took this job knowing I got to gut through one year of Russ and then I’m going to run him out of town. And that’s exactly what he did. Yeah. Well, and that’s kind of probably why I would have defended him on his way out because I don’t think he ever wanted that to be a successful relationship and Russ didn’t help it with his level of play while he was here either and it hasn’t gone up since he left Denver. So, it’s it’s I think it’s it’s one of those things where it’s that the popularity of the NFL if you get two people that work together at one point or another. My point with saying that I’m not defending Sean is like that’s not that out of the ordinary. He says brash things. He’s overconfident. He has an ego. He says things sometimes I think he says it where he’s like, “I didn’t mean anything bad by it.” Like it’s just the truth sometimes. He catches himself a lot in the middle of a statement. Like even the postgame the other night because he knew when he talked about tempo that he had defended like going gone against it the week prior that he catches himself a lot more now. He didn’t catch himself the other night. He made it very clear about the Jackson Dart versus the other quarterback. Yeah. straight up said, “I just told the Giants owner, I wish he hadn’t benched Russ quite yet so we would get a chance to play him.” And and the funniest part about all this is the Giants are what, two-2 with Dart. Very easily could and should be three and one with Dart. If they beat a bad New Orleans team, they’re 4-0. Like Sean’s not actually breaking news here that Jackson Dart’s a better quarterback than Russell Wilson. He’s just hurting Russ’s feelings in the process. Can I give you my stat that I teased from Sunday that I don’t know if anyone else has brought this up. Apologies if they had, but this to me is just another wild wrinkle in Denver’s 3332 win. The Giants scored five touchdowns. The Broncos scored four touchdowns in a field goal. Think about that for a second. Basic math. What’s the final score? 3531 Giants. You score counting extra points with it. I in 98% of games that have been played, five touchdowns is 35 points. Four touchdowns and a field goal is 31 points. Doesn’t it make it all that much more remarkable that the Broncos won 3332 on a day the opponent found the end zone five times. They only found it four. One field goal. That’s it. That’s all the scoring, guys. But it gets wacky. The Broncos two two-point conversions, two eight-point possessions. The spirit of DT lives on. 88 day. Two eight-point possessions. first time in their history ever in a win. And also the Giants kicker, who by the way, I don’t know if folks have seen this this afternoon, got cut by New York for missing those two extra points. It’s just in a day that has been broken down over the last 48 hours and rightfully so. It’s just one more stat that kind of blew my mind when I was writing my column last night that I discovered, oh, five touchdowns to four touchdowns in a field goal and yet Denver wins the game 33. You can’t make sense of it. like there’s no way that you could look at that game and I’m gonna be full transparency. So, the the Broncos finally score and it was a fluky score, right? Goes off Sutton’s hands. Uh Troy Franklin brings it in. Then on the flip side, isn’t that when the Giants had the tip and they go down and score? So, it goes back to 26 to8. 26 to8. The deficits were 190 268 and 32. I do off my son and my wife cheering on the Stern interception. No way. Yeah. And so like it makes it that much like I’ve gone back and I’ve watched it. I’m like how is this even possible? And other than like your point about DT like this doesn’t happen. 165 and zero since the merger having that big of a an 18-point lead with six or six minutes or less left. Right. Mhm. Teams don’t lose those games. No. They would have been better off coming out kneeling, kneeling down three three straight plays and then punting it, I think. But it was like for whatever reason, uh, crazy things have happened. If you give me another game where the outcome was like that shocking to you. I mean, there was a couple T-Boss I guess like I think about that Bears game, right? Um, but that game was close throughout. Well, I think it was 10 nothing until like two minutes left maybe and then he found the touchdown. And then Prader kicked like a 60 yard and then they won in overtime. The Bears dude ran out of bounds when he shouldn’t have. Yeah, you can go back to was it the 2013 season where Manning and the Broncos were down 24 nothing at halftime to the Chargers Monday Night Football in San Diego. But you have Pton Manning, you have a lot of talent on that team and they had a whole half to do it. Not a quarter, not even like when it got really down to it, you had six minutes for this to happen. Like I can’t think of another game. There was another one that Manning was involved with when he was with the Colts, maybe in Tampa on another Monday night game. Monday night in Tampa. It was that was the only other one. It wasn’t as big a deficit as you outlined, but that was the only other one we’re erasing like two score deficit something in the final couple minutes. Um, you think about it, you’re right. The Broncos had eight points with five and change to go. They finished with 33 points. I guess that’s it. Just you can’t wrap your mind around 36. No fumble recovery for a touchdown. I mean, you throw in the interception. Yes. But for them, like it doesn’t make sense. And not some miracle onside kick recovery either. No. And they even let him go down and score and take the lead back. Yeah. I was thinking they’re going to do all this work for nothing. And then when that cat who just got cut a couple hours ago, freaking Bo Knicks rolled out like he was Pat Mahomes tossing it to Travis Kelce. He didn’t care how much time was left. No. But when he missed that extra point, I was watching the game by myself. But I did think they’re gonna win. Like when it was 3230, they’re gonna find a way to win. Now, they still needed some big plays. I mean, the ball to Mims, the one to Sutton that we’ve now heard, they just drew that up on Friday. First time they ever ran it was on Sunday. They run the clock. By the way, Sutton catches that ball with 13 seconds left. They crank that clock. Broncos get up, spike it, 2 seconds left. Remember, the clock’s running there. So, if you don’t get set, that’s an off, that’s a false start, off sides, whatever. 10-second runoff, game’s over. So, they had to be firmly set. Two seconds left and then of course your mind can’t help but to go to what happened last year in Kansas City. It looks like a chip shot for Will Lutz, but they still got to execute. And I’m going, “Please don’t get blocked. Please don’t get blocked.” Well, with the amount of blocks that have happened in the NFL this year, you got to be concerned about it. And Lutz did a good job. I’ve rewatched the kick, I don’t know, a dozen times cuz how could you not? He chipped that thing. He took out his long wedge, which I appreciate it cuz it’s like, you got plenty of leg, dude. You just got to chip this one up in the air. And that’s size that had arms in the way. had he gone lower with it. Is it the craziest win in Broncos history? Oh man, I talked to uh to James before that game and we had brought up the T-Bo to Dearius play because they were honoring Tibo. I mean honoring Dearius. This one’s just it doesn’t make sense. So yeah, it has to be the craziest. I I think I agree with you. It just didn’t like you’re right. The the 33 points in a quarter including 25 in the last five minutes. T-Bo to DT is probably one of the most memorable plays in Broncos history. I mean, you know, you obviously had the helicopter in the Super Bowl. You had Von Miller doing what he did to Cam Newton in a Super Bowl. You had Elway to Rod Smith in Super Bowl 33 against the Falcons. But just for strictly game itself, lost all hope. Denver to win might be number one on my list. I I don’t know if I can come up with another one where it’s like, yeah, they were cooked. Cuz you’re right. Even that game in San Diego all those years ago, Payton’s first year, it’s 24 nothing, but it’s still Payton freaking Manny. And they scored on defense. And they had pick six. I think Chris Harris had one or either that or was a fumble recovery. They had two. They scored three touchdowns on offense and two on defense. Tony Carter and Chris Harris Jr. scored on defense. Offense, it was Dearius Thomas. Brandon Stokeley with one of his best catches as a Bronco. It was Eric Decker and it was Stoke in the corner of the end zone somehow getting to it. It’s crazy, man. It’s crazy. And the Broncos are now five and two. Where can this five-2 take them? Cello and I’ll get into it next. The fan flyaway is back. Presented by 303 Law 4040. Save that number in your phone. Ah, this is why I love the Ramos.com textures. 3037131043. Tons of suggestions. Seeing a lot of the drive. Yes, of course, the drive. extremely iconic from John Elway and happened in a playoff game. And from an obvious Pats fan, talk to me when the Broncos come back from a 28-3 deficit in an actual meaningful game. Oh, don’t rain on our parade. It was meaningful. They go to 5-2, their first place in the AFC West, and they’re the three seed in the conference. I’m not trying to get discredit all those other games, which were great comebacks. 33 points in a quarter. The only quarterback in NFL history, two rushing touchdowns, two passing touchdowns in a quarter. Like things like this have never happened before. Um, and we probably spending too much time on I know you probably want to get into like let’s talk about the elephant in the room. Why did it take such a miraculous comeback because they were so putrid for three quarters? Pitiful. What’s the answer, Will? or more maybe more meaningful. What’s the question, Sean? What’s the question? Is it him? Is it Bo? And how can you not take momentum from Philly into London? Uh, obviously you had no momentum coming out of that London game. That was terrible. And you carried that momentum into a home game against the Giants where it was just batted passes, no efficiency, no chemistry. It was terrible to watch for three quarters. Yeah. No, it wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t fun. I mean, so many screen passes. I think 11 and all. Uh it was just so predictable. Offense was stuck in the mud. Broncos were getting booed loudly leaving the field at halftime. Uh plenty of fans left. Fans left. They were getting booed after the third quarter. And it was a rabbit out of the hat. There’s no doubt about it. But I also appreciated that Shawn Peyton said postgame, we’ve got to clean up our mess and we’re only going to enjoy this one tonight because we’ve got a lot of work to do. I did think that was a pretty level like what’s crap. You got a mouse in your pocket. You’re the head guy. Everything you talked about. Listen, I’m I’ll go over it, but there’s things that people if you were live tweeting that game. Go back and look at your tweets. Oh, I was. And I don’t delete tweets. They’re all there. No. And it’s like I mean the the preeason talk about them being it was comical at one point. How is a rookie quarterback looking like they know exactly what they want to do exactly where they want to hit you against this defense and in the second year of Bo? It seemed like they were trying to figure out like they just got together a week or two ago and that this defense that Giants defense was throwing out stuff at him like they had never seen it before. No, there’s a lot to unpack because I mean 99.99% of the time the numbers back it up. We would be sitting here tonight going the offense is broken. They’re four and three. They’re in trouble. It’s smoking mirrors to even have four wins. But because of what happened, a lot of that conversation gets lost. I don’t think it’s going to get lost in team headquarters and I don’t think it’s going to get lost among the fan base either. That now that it has been 49 50 hours, the fourth quarter was amazing. I’ll remember it the next 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 years of my life. There’s no doubt about it. But I also feel like I watched two different football games and Garrett Bulls belly flopping on second and goal with Bo Knicks darting one in there when he could have thrown a lob pass and you walk away with zero points. That did kind of sum up the Broncos offense through seven games this season. Just ugly. Hard to watch. And I and I’ll go back to the point I made last week. One of the points I made last week is I thought they were close. I don’t know how close they are. I mean, you you can look at, hey, maybe they carry that momentum from the fourth quarter over into the game against the the Cowboys who have a terrible defense. You should be able to attack that defense. The real you should have been able to attack the Giants defense for three quarters and you couldn’t. True, but I think if we had to rank it, people would say the Cowboys defense is worse than what the Giants have. Just as they trained Parsons, they may be the worst defense or one of the worst defenses in the NFL. So maybe that happens. Maybe they they start to figure it out. I I don’t know if if you have another struggle bus type of a game offensively. Well, then like questions are going to keep coming up is like where’s the answer? I heard but they’re five and two. I mean, right? Like at the end of the day, like where’s the answer? But also, we’re sitting here talking about a team on the text line that they’re the biggest fraud at five and two. I know some people feel that way, but you could make a real case they should be seven and0. They shouldn’t have lost to the Colts and they shouldn’t have lost to the Chargers. So, even if people want to use the f- word and call them frauds, they are literally two plays away from being undefeated, the only undefeated team in the NFL. Probably shouldn’t have beat the Eagles in the fashion that you did either, but that happens. Maybe it’s all even now. Maybe you should have lost to the Eagles and Giants. You should have beaten the Chargers and Colts and five and twos where you Yeah. Well, I mean, we say that every year, right? There’s always those games that you should win that you lose and vice versa that you should have lost but you end up finding a way to win. That was one of them on Sunday because there’s they had no business walking out of there with a victory through that much of a game. No, we got a little sidetracked, but uh I wrote this morning at denverports.com that the city of Denver could, and I italicized could have three championships parades in the next I brought that up a little while ago. Title Town USA could be Denver, Colorado. It’s impossibly greedy, sure, but it’s also not downright insane. Can you imagine if the Broncos have one in February and that’s just the appetizer for June? That’s the most difficult one out of the three. Yes, it would be the most surprising out of the three. H three parades, man. Good place to leave it for Dante and Cello. I’m Will DST on the fan. [Music] Bo Nixon. The Broncos snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and took down the Giants with a thrilling come from behind performance.
