Caleb Williams discusses victory over Saints | Chicago Bears

What’s up everybody? Caleb, it seemed a few times when plays were breaking down, you rode outside the Y and there seemed like there was room in front of you. For you or your vantage point, what determines whether you take off and run or try to find someone open downfield? Um, I think it just comes down to understanding the situation. I think it also uh comes down to being able to um get our players explosive ball. um you know if we if we complete the passes that you know I missed I missed about five or six I think on the run which is um extremely frustrating for me um you know especially just kind of how you know my nature’s been for past couple years of of of my career and um you know I think I think if I hit those nothing no nothing said but you know it’s just being able to understand in those situations that even if I’m not hitting or anything like that you know um you know how a QB run in those situations where maybe you know the defense calls a good call or perfect call or whatever the case may be. Um, the QB takes off and gets positive yards. I think I’ve done a good job with that so far this year. I think today I did not. Um, and so, uh, just being able to learn from it and move on. Do you have any sense for why you didn’t do a good job with that today? Anything from that? Uh, I think guys got open. Um, and and you know, I think I missed um, and uh, I think that’s I think that’s what it boils down to. And then, you know, other than that, it’s just being able to have the, you know, have it on my conscious that, you know, I can help this team. Uh, not only by by scrambling and and and delivering a good ball to, you know, receivers, um, which I didn’t do that well of a, you know, today and, um, is also understanding that I can run and, you know, hurt a team with my legs. Team in the locker room seems to be a great place to be at four and two, also a lot of room for improvement. How do you absolutely put those two things together and build a mindset? Yeah, think about it. We I threw an interception today. Um and and uh defense had four turnovers, four sacks. Um I threw an interception. I didn’t play well today. Um and then the offensive line um you know pushes us through. DeAndre Swift and the backs push us through for 200 plus yards on on ground. And so uh it’s being able to find ways to win um is what we’ve been able to do and we’re going to keep doing that. Um but uh it’s also being able to find ways to come together um as one that when defense has a turnover, we go down and put seven on the board, not a field goal. Um you know, um and that that that accounts for me, uh that accounts for all of us on offense. Um that accounts for just just everything overall. And so um it’s it’s just being able to execute the plays that are called. Um it’s being able to when when you have those moments for explosive plays, we connect or might deliver a good ball or, you know, um offensive line does a good job and um of of blocking up and and and the back’s hitting, you know, hitting the hole and and and having explosive plays. So, um I think uh I think overall there’s a lot of growth that that can be had. Um and it it’s it’s insane to think that and we’re 4 and two um about how much growth we have um left. Uh myself included. And uh you know, we like I said, we want to we like I said before, we want to hit the ground running um at the right time uh where we’re all hitting on all cylinders. Defense is playing, you know, great. Um and I want to, you know, have them have their back and just like they have ours and uh we want to keep that rolling. How frustrating is it to see the pre- snap penalties and there’s some center snap exchange problems Drew took uh blame for that? Y tough that kind of a turn today. Yeah. Um it’s frustrating because you um it’s it’s you know the the the pre- snap stuff um the the the the center Q QC um exchange. It’s um it it is frustrating just because we put so much time and energy into it. Um, but I I wouldn’t say I put that on on Drew. Anybody, you know, I I can, you know, I can take that blame just because, um, it comes down to cadence. It comes down to, you know, everybody being on one page and, um, having everybody calm and and and understanding, um, you know, we’re going to go execute this play and, you know, we just need to snap the ball at the right time. Um, and and, uh, be able to hit plays at the right time, execute the plays. And, you know, that comes down to communication. That comes down to, um, you know, knowing what we have to do. it comes down to um the cadence at the end of the day and so um I can always help in those situations um and and you know we’ll be better with that uh coming forth. How do you how do you handle the progress being kind of up and down? You like it to be linear and just progressively steps forward. How do you deal with step forward, step back? Yep. Game like today? Yeah. Uh you’re saying for myself or offense? What are you saying? Uh either one. Which one do you want to answer? Uh I’ll go for myself. Um days like today I would say are needed um just in the sense of it it you know it gives you a little bit more to be able to look back on something and figure out what um and so that’s important. Uh and so you have these moments and then you get you know you get later in the season and you know you may start to have one of these moments and you get to go back to the feeling go back to you know what was wrong and you know what what you need to figure out early in the season. Um, and so now, you know, when we’re late in the season, it’s it’s like, okay, I remember what it was. I remember, you know, how can I fix it? Um, it’s more of a solutionbased um, you know, thing instead of it being like, you know, what’s the issue? Um, and so, uh, right now we’re going to go back. I’m going to go look at the film. I’m going to figure out and and I am going to figure this out. Uh, especially with, you know, some of these explosive plays, some of these, you know, mainly talking about the on the run stuff. Um, and I’ve I haven’t been efficient with those. I haven’t been hitting them and it’s frustrating. Um and and and so I’m g, you know, we’re going to figure this out. I’m going to figure it out. Um and uh you know, when we start hitting on those cylinders where we start having some of these explosive plays, especially, you know, when play breaks, uh when the play breaks and it turns to our second play, um it’s going to be uh you know, real devastating to the other side. So, um we’re going to figure it out. I’m going to figure it out. Um and then other than that, um it just comes down to the basics. uh feet, eyes, um delivering a good ball to the guys, and then it comes down to uh like I said before, communication and make sure everybody’s on the same page and you know, we’re rolling off the ball. In your in your life, high school, college pros, have you ever had a game like this where you weren’t particularly prolific and you still won? Um yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I I mean um I don’t I can’t necessarily off the top of my head name the game, but yeah, there’s there’s been games where, you know, I may not have had my best game. Um and and you know, maybe ran the ball. I think there was a game where we ran the ball for around 200 yards and I hadundred something yards passing and um maybe one touch one touchdown and um you know, you’re you’re just as excited. I mean, I mean, the the progress that we’ve had over on offense, especially, um, you know, coming off these past two weeks of of being able to run run the damn ball, um, as as every offensive line wants to do and says, um, and so, um, there are things that, um, I can be better at, there are things that I’m going to be better at, there are things that, um, you know, that that, you know, weren’t hidden today. And, and, you know, you just have those days sometime. Um, and it’s nice that we have a defense, we have a special teams, a punter or whatever you want to say, kicker, um, that can put us ahead, that can help us win games, a run game that can, you know, control the game. And so, uh, you know, we get this figured out on my side. Um, we’ll be, you know, we’ll be putting up a lot of points. It be very dangerous. Caleb, back in Detroit, you set an optimistic tone saying that we got 15 games left and the sense of late, you won four straight sits. What’s the feeling for you now for 42 and and looking ahead to what can come here? Yeah, belief. Um, still um it’s it’s uh confidence. Um it’s it’s belief. It’s it’s living in the know uh the known. Um you know, the the feeling of myself this year in the sense of when we have games, when we’re going through the game plan, you know, when we get to the end of the week, it’s more of a feeling of we know we’re going to win. Um, and you know, that’s not always going to be the case, but the feeling of it is different than, you know, maybe, you know, or or you know, we got to go out here and play a play a perfect game or anything like that. It’s it’s living in the known of the feeling of of of of we’re going to come out here and win the game. Um, and and obviously a lot of things have to go right and we got to execute and we got to, you know, communication, all these different things. Defense has played well, offensive has played well, special teams, all three sides of the ball. But living in the known um is is kind of where we’re at. Even when we were 0 and2, we were still living a known that we’re gonna, you know, fight back and, you know, we’re going to be two and two and then we’ll go three and two and then we’ll be four and two. And so it’s living a known. We have to, you know, do thing do things throughout the week, hard work, um, you know, stand late, do all the, you know, do all the right things, but, um, living in the known is where we’re living and, you know, we got to stay there. We got to keep being consistent. We got to, you know, hold each other accountable. We got to do the right things, uh, to be able to stay consistent, be the team we want to be. What’s your interpretation of how the running game has gotten unlocked the way it has the last two weeks? Yeah, I think it’s I think it’s come down to one mentality. Um I think the other one is uh the way the coaches have been able to to help us on offense and and and things like that of you know shifts and uh motions and things like that. when you start shifting in motion and you know you have crisscross when the when the ball is snapped also um it it affects defenses and it and it puts people out of place so that it can help with you know double teams or triple teams or you know getting up to the second level and when you start getting up to the second level like I said last week and we got the backs that we have and things like that you start seeing you know big creases and you know real real explosive positive runs and um that only helps us um we got to keep that rolling and we got to get the other half going back going again and two compared to last 4 and two. Yeah. Um uh I think I would say similar in a way obviously um just cuz you’re 4 and two and you know you got things rolling but I think I think at this moment I think what I said recently or or or just a minute ago is the living in the known of of you know if we do the right things throughout the week, if we practice the right ways, if we um you know if we do enough studying, if we watch enough film, if we do all the right things, uh we got the coaches, we got the players, we got the belief belief um in each other, coaches, everybody um everybody inside that building that we will, you know, come out with a win and um you know, I think that’s I think that’s the difference. Thanks, guys. Awesome. Thank you. The best.

  1. This guy seems like a nice guy. But he’s unfortunately just another Justin Fields when it comes to overall QB skills. Franchise QB-no way. Bring on Bagent!

  2. Football is about all phases. So that if one phase slips, the other can pick it up. It is a process, we'll get there. Just give it a little time and momentum.

  3. not everyday is gona be your day , but when it is your day . Just go get that dub baby ! Your a Bear4Life ❤ . Lets Bear the F down and go get a 5 piece !!! Go Bears !!!

  4. I’m pretty crucial of Caleb as a big bears fan but this maturity and accountability is good to see. The media portrays him differently. We gotta ride for our guy, good or bad. He will get better, I believe in him

  5. When Caleb finally settles into this offense, we may have something really special brewing. Bad games are a part of the developmental process…. Let’s go 18.

  6. Caleb is obviously talented as hell but he needs to work on a few things. Holding on to the ball for too long and his vision is questionable at times. Also overthrows a lot

  7. Much Love From Peoria Illinois . That's My Quarterback. I Really Really Enjoyed Being at the game and most importantly getting A Win. Bear Nation Bear Down Baby Let's Go.
