POSTGAME: Phoenix Suns FIGHT BACK In 2nd Half & PROVE It’s A New Era
With his win tonight, Suns coach Jordan is now only 578 wins away from the Suns franchise record held by John Mloud. So, you’re telling me there’s a chance? Damn right? Psychos and sickos unite for a one and0. A what a new edition of PHNX Suns. Of course, presented by Bet 365. Download the Bet365 app. Use code PHNX 365. Deposit 10. And we’ve got the freckle mama behind the Mac making all of the magic happen. Stephen will call in from the arena later. Of course, the most important people, everybody in the chat. Oh, come on. It’s us. Whoa. What? Bro, come on. It’s us. It’s not us. It’s us. The most important people. Everybody in the chat spamming SMW Suns must win. Hit the like button button. Hit that subscribe button as well. A new era, new music, new everything. Espo, the Phoenix Suns came out and stormed back in that second. Look, I I mean, you want to you want to say it was, you know, the SMW, it’s all that. Uh, it was me. I changed my shoes at halftime and it worked. It was an old PJ Tucker trick that I learned from the garbage man and it worked. I love it. I love that we I love that we found a way to win. And by we, I mean it was obviously you and I. But no, look, this team sold us on the idea that it was heart, that it was hustle, that it was defense, that was playing for each other, and that didn’t matter what the odds were, they’d find a way. and they’ve lived up to that promise in game one. We had a lot We’ve been sold a lot of crappy promises over the last handful of years. It was nice to see them come out and be that team. And yeah, did it look bad offensively in that first half? No doubt about it. It was atrocious offensively in that first half, but they did not stop fighting. And at halftime, we talked about it. They needed to clean up the little things to come out and have a chance. They did just that and they fought back because we knew offensively you weren’t gonna shoot 30% for an entire game. Yeah. And they pulled it off. You got the full Phoenix Suns experience tonight in game one. Devin Booker dropped 30. Dylan Brooks had the whole roller coaster that Dylan Brooks’s entire career has been Ryan Dunn was just an ultimate connector early on in the game. Grayson Allen played really well. Almost had 20 points. Mark Williams played really well off the bench, which is was a surprise we’ll get to later. Royce O’Neal was the ultimate unk tonight. Kong Gillespie put some guys on skates. Like you you got a little bit of everything tonight, but at the end of the day, you look back to the preseason and how often do you hear, “Well, preseason doesn’t matter.” You hear it all the time. And realistically, it usually doesn’t. But when you look at some of these wins the Suns pulled off, in fact almost all of the wins the Suns pulled off except for their first game it was the Suns are down. This other team is is hot. And what are they going to do? Well, guess what? Even if they’re down at half, even if the other team is hot, they come out in that second half cool, calm, collected, and ready to kick some ass. Well, I I think they’re not fully calm because you got Dylan Brooks. But like in the calm enough, they’re not panicking. No, they’re not worried about panicking. Yeah, you’re right. Not calm. No. And I think I think it was pretty clear that Jordan at halftime did one of those just play your game and and there’s there’s nerves that come into game one. There’s weird out of rhythm stuff that happens for a lot of these guys. It was their first time playing in front of the home crowd is you can’t forget they only played one home preseason game and the first and second units didn’t play in that. So for for Dylan Brooks, for some of these guys, it was the first time that they played in front of the home crowd as well. A little adjustment, but there was no question about how hard they were going to play. And it’s refreshing. It was refreshing to watch that. And this was a full team effort. Yeah. This wasn’t one guy. This wasn’t, you know, oh, we’re relying on the should sitting on the shoulders of two guys here to do everything. No, it was complete across the roster. Everybody, almost everybody that stepped on the court had an impact. Yeah. I mean, pretty much almost everybody. And you know, that’s not usual with an NBA team. You’re not going to get 10 guys who make a big impact every single night. But like I said, you can go down the list, but beyond the stats, beyond, you know, what we’re going to get into with By the Numbers, with our new player of the game award, with our new X Factor award that we’re rebranding for this season that we’re super excited to get into. The reality is when you watch the game, the Kings were hot off the rip. The Suns were cold. They were shooting sub 10% from deep. They couldn’t hit a free throw. One thing was consistent from tip off to the final buzzer. And that was they played like they gave a damn. And that was the number one thing why everybody hated last season, and why despite the team being significantly less talented, having significantly lower expectations, I would say 98% of Suns fans were more excited to watch a team play this year than they were with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. And I’m not even trying to single those two guys out because it was a whole systemic issue. It was a coaching issue. It was a roster issue. It was a star issue. It was all of it. But people are more excited about this team than they were the other team because of how this team plays. And that matters to guys like us, like Eritton, who have been fans of this team, and who’ve been rooting and waiting for our team to play with some heart for once in the last couple of years. It took us one regular season game to get 10 times the amount of heart that we saw over 164 games the last two years. Yeah. I mean, we’ve we’ve all joked that we were willing to be organ donors for this team. we were willing to give some of our heart uh to them and today we were rewarded for that faith. They went out there and they showed that they they made you feel like they cared. They put energy back into that that arena. They scored 120 points without their second best scorer. They went out there and played defense, which is something that we have not grown accustomed to with this team. Uh and they went out and they were capable of doing that. They overcame atrocious first half shooting. It would have been really easy to just curl up in a ball and go, you know what, not our night. And we saw that plenty over the last two years. And they didn’t do that. And all those things are so encourag uh and made a a massive comeback in the second half and fell a little bit short. I’d still feel pretty good about where they were based on what they showed in the second half and everything they put into it. Yeah. Uh Josh the point god. I want to give Josh a shout out. Uh 35Z chat uh says so nice to be waking up at 4 in the morning to watch our sons play with effort all the way from South Africa. I love this team man. Love it. I mean and and that’s the thing where look all of us here locally we care a lot about this team. Clearly I’m I’m I was you watched the watch along three hours long on the watch along. I did not shut up once. I was screaming the entire time. I can I can attest to that. That is true. It’s If you want to watch a man crash out, come back to life, recrash out, say he never doubted, and do all the spectrum of emotions all in one time, come to watch a watch along with us cuz it’s happening every single time we do one. There’s a psychology class tomorrow at ASU that we’ll be using that footage to go through what it’s like to be a sports fan because this was this was the full spectrum. This is I I said it on the on the live the watch along. I think this is going to be a microcosm of this year for sure. There could be weird pockets of bad basketball. Uh there’s going to be excitement and there’s never going to be a doubt that the team’s going to work their ass off at every turn. Yeah. And and by the way, Aiden here who was at the morg, uh saying that the the crowd was insane and Devin Booker after the game saying that it was a breath of fresh air. It was a new life. It was a new life. like th this is exactly what this team needed. Now, am I going to go out and say this team’s going to win 50 games? No. Am I go out and say this team’s going to win a couple rounds in the playoffs? No. But that’s never the expectation for this team. We wanted to have fun. And so far, Espo, we’ve had fun, and that’s all you could ask for. Yeah. I mean, we’ve had fun through the preeason. We had fun in the second half today. I’ll say that the first half uh with everybody losing their minds in terms of uh online was, you know, a little a little crazy, but uh overall this was this was what you’d hope for. This is the reward that we got for dealing with so much and having having some faith in that in that off season where it would have been really easy to to just go I don’t understand what’s going on here and and making all sorts of assumptions, but I I’m I’m impressed through one game. I I’m impressed with with what they were able to do. Can I ask you something? Of course you can. That’s kind of the show. I mean, I know I could. Can I ask you a question? If you know, you know. Uh you’re you are about as much of a Suns expert as one can be. Can you tell me in the history of the Suns over 50 years, how many teams have had an identity truly founded on defense? None. None. That’s just never been It’s never been what this franchise did. And and we knew that that was going to have to be a hallmark of this club and we will will have to continue to be. That’s what turned it around tonight. That’s why they were good uh in in the preseason. And I I keep hammering this home, but it’s I I’ll continue to. It’s the fact that even if you are not the more talented team physically, you can still win on the defensive end. You can outwork, you can out hustle, you can put in the effort, and you can be better than that other team simply by working harder. That is what they preached from Matt Ispia to Brian Gregory to Jordan Kn that we were going to be proud of it because this is going to be a team that reflects the the way we do things in Arizona, the way this fan base has been. We’ve clocked in and clocked out for for five decades now, no matter what it is. And we go out there and we put in our effort and put our all our heart into it. And now the team did that again as well. And it’s predicated on that defense. It’s predicated on creating turnovers. It’s predicated on even if a team gets off to a hot start, not going away from that defensive strategy and getting under their skin over time. And that’s exactly what they did tonight. They fought hard on that defensive end. And that’s how they will continue to win this year is by doing that. Another super chat. This one from Arizona 88 199. Thank you. Says, “Feel like the Suns should play Butler.” Well, Jimmy, here’s the thing is no matter which Jay Butler you would like the Suns to play, they can’t because one plays for the Warriors, the other one was cut. Uh, but I I I I’m sorry to relay that news to you. I’m not sorry though, Espo, to introduce a new segment here. And and unfortunately, Stephen is not here for this segment. Stephen has has deemed this as a very very important thing in basketball and I don’t think there was any better initial recipient of our new XFactor award. Our blue collar boy of the night award. Oh yeah. Goes to none other than Dylan Brooks Espo. I said you got the full Phoenix Suns experience tonight, brother. You got the full Dylan Brooks experience tonight. Look, I could I could do without the guy shooting 24 shots. Nine of 24, one of eight from three. If he hit another three, I would have won my bet. By the way, that ch that that challenged me in many ways on the offensive end. But defensively and trash talking, you got exactly what you thought you were going to get out of Dylan Brooks. And a big part of them winning is because it got in Demar D Rozan’s head, right? a guy that was shooting an insane percentage at one point in this game. He was seven of eight at one point in this game. Dylan Brooks took it upon himself in that fourth quarter to rattle Demar De Rozan enough where he became a nonfactor down the stretch. And that is why I think they were able to get this four-point win because it it neutralized Demar Rozan. He’s still at 29, but it looked like he was on his way to 40. Yeah, easily at one point. Yeah. No, here’s the thing about Dylan Brooks. Okay. Dylan Brooks will have you pulling your hair out, asking him to stop shooting the ball. This has been a fact with Dylan Brooks for his entire career. You knew what you were getting when Dylan Brooks goes to your basketball team. The thing is, Dylan Brooks is a certified winner. Dylan Brooks is a certified winner. And maybe he’ll take some bad shots now. He will definitely take some bad shots. Hopefully not 24 of them. But when the moment when the moment is big, Dylan Brooks continues to step up. He hit a lot of his shots when the Suns needed him to. He played incredible defense. He was the enforcer and he had the arena bumping. Look, do I want him to take 24 shots? Absolutely not. Was everything else that Dylan Brooks did tonight to a tee what this team needs from him on a night innight out basis? 100%. Absolutely. Game two, you know exactly what you’re going to get from Dylan Brooks. That guy shows up and is consistent in the good and in the bad. And consistency is what this team needs. Yeah. I I mean, he’s the poster child for the new mentality of what they want. And you know, he embraces who he is and sometimes that will be the shots, but it was I I can’t get enough of what he did to Demar Rozan down the stretch. You watched a man completely unravel just because Dylan Brooks was yapping at him and smiling. He got that crazy smile, and I mean that in the most polite way possible. He got that crazy smile looking at Demar De Rozan and it it it broke him. You could see it. You could see that moment where Demar De Rozan finally was just like, I’ve had enough of this. And Dylan Brooks feeds off of it. Yeah, you can tell that he gets energy off of just screwing with guys like that. And I love it. I think we’re going to see a lot more games like that. And I hope I I hope they obviously shut guys down sooner than they did in this game, but man, that was fun to watch. And I remember why I hated playing against Dylan Brooks, watching the Suns play against Dylan Brooks, because he’d do that stuff to Book. He’d do that stuff to other guys, and it would drive you nuts. But guess what? He’s our villain now. And I love it. I don’t know if you know this, breaking news to everybody in here. This is the National Basketball Association. Some guys are just going to hit shots. And they had two of the best in the league at it in Demard Rosen and Zack Lavine. I said it in our pregame show. I said it yesterday on the 3pm show. If the Kings were going to win this game, it was going to be those two going crazy. You mentioned Malik Monk, too. And Malik Monk. Three guys, right? Okay. They had 59 points between Lavine and D. Rozan and then another 19 off the bench from Malik Monk. Nobody else on the Kings scored double digit points except for Dennis Shruder. Who is Dennis Shruder? You you have to not put your head down and get upset when a guy like Demard Rosen goes crazy. You got to give the energy back to him. Dylan Brooks will airball three threes, get a post fadeaway turned around, come down to the other end of the court and literally none of that is in his head. That is a special type of basketball player and that’s the type of guy that you need. That is the bluecollariest of the bluecollar boys. We have the bluecollar spectrum. He was already at the very top. He’ll remain at the very top. He took that hard hat and ran further right on that spectrum. Yeah. Uh and look, this is this is a guy that took years off my life with some of those shots, but then breathed life into me with the way he played defense tonight. And I think you’re right. This is what we’re going to have to deal with. But I am perfectly fine with it if you get in some guy’s head like he did tonight and lead him the way he did. He deserves to be the bluecollar boy uh of the night 100%. I’d like to thank my dad for doing my job for me in the chat and setting a light goal. Setting a light goal at 150. Thank you. I’m going to one up you though. Let’s do a light goal of 200. I appreciate that. Now, let’s go one higher. Okay. 2011. No, 225. Okay. 225 higher. Here’s Coach Stark the goat in the chat saying, “It’s one game, but I enjoyed that game the most I have in the last three years.” Amen, Coach. And Brandon says, “This entire team is bluecollar boys tonight.” And that’s what I want to talk about after this upcoming break because I think Royce O’Neal had an argument. I think Ryan Dunn had an argument. I think Grayson Allen had an argument. In fact, we had Ryan Dunn as it and we had Royce, too. I think Mark Williams had an argument. I think pretty much everybody on the damn team had an argument. We’ll talk about other blueco collar boys. We’ll give away another new award. We’ll get to the numbers. And for those asking where Steven is, well, Steven will be here. He will call in from the arena. And yes, Aiden, we will bring up Gortat screens when he’s on here. We’re going to get into all of it. It’s going to be a long show. It’s going to be a fun show, a one and0 show. Continues after our first break. Tomorrow will also be a great day because it is a inner circle fuel day over at Circle K. Bro, that was in your mouth. Yeah. So what? That’s making me That’s That’s That’s where we draw That’s where we draw the line. You just put a shoe in your mouth. The sun’s just won. Is that Is that You’re right. There’s no bad decisions. Is that really where we draw the line? Do we not listen to those three hours we watched that game? I know. I know that your mouth tastes like absolute crap right now. Great. Yeah, wash it out. It’s great. Uh, by the way, Jordan says the team made sure to give him a celebratory water bath after his first head coaching win. I mean, the vibes immaculate. Immaculate. They are. I could use some of that water right now, dude. Do you need to go? No, I’m good. Okay. Are you sure? I’m good. I feel like it’s really just I think that I don’t think that mixed real well with the with the kind of starting to settle into you like what you actually just did. No, it’s not. This is That is not the first time I’ve ever done that. Like, yeah, bro, but you put the outside shoes. I have done that before on this program. I’m good. Yikes, man. Okay, how about something we’ve never done before on this program. We’ve given out big, bright, shining stars, but that is no more. We gave out our bluecollar boy of the night. And if you have been watching this program the offseason like a true psycho and sicko, you know that what we like to do is we like to name dudes. So every single postgame, our star of the night, our player of the game will be our dude of the night presented by Hila River Resorts and Casinos. You do you at Hila River Resorts and Casinos. Visit playhila.com for more details. Dude number one, it’s Grayson Allen. 18 points, six of 12 from the field, three of seven from three, seven assists, five rebounds. Espo, I think a lot of people will say, “No, Devin Booker. Devin Booker is not the dude.” Tell them why Grayson Allen’s the dude tonight. dude abides. All right, because Grayson Allen really tied the room together this evening. Without Grayson Allen, his efforts hitting those three balls down the stretch. This team does not win. Devin Booker did what we expected. Grayson Allen had to step in and be that second offensive force that efficiently scored uh tonight. And he he was the difference maker. Devin’s 31, great. Love it. Was was fantastic. He had that clutch bucket in the final minute, but without Grayson Allen and what he was able to do in particular in the fourth quarter as they kind of swung that tide and broke it open, uh, he had to be the dude tonight. Yeah, he was absolutely the dude tonight. And it wasn’t just the fact that he was coming out hitting threes. It was he was getting downhill. He was getting ready off of the the corner when Book was driving in and making plays. He was doing every little thing you needed to do, playing good defense, getting gritty, getting physical. This is a guy that’s coming off of one of the worst seasons of his career where he was still fine, but he he was relatively out of shape. Came into this season looking good, feeling like he was in good shape. This guy hit a derk mid-range shot in this game. And that’s when he’s starting with no Jaylen Green. The Suns are going to have this type of demon off the bench. And if he can be a spot starter while Green is out, that’s great. Uh if he’s just going to come off the bench, I still expect him to take seven threes off the bench. He was amazing. He’s certainly deserving of our dude of the night. Well, and he did it when he was a surprise addition to the injury report, too. True. He was he was listed as probable. There were some questions about how how well he’d be able to move. He went out there and he did it, and you wouldn’t have even known that he showed up on that injury report. So that’s part of it too that plays into it for me. I know you said it’s not Book with the 31 points. We’re going to give a lot to Book. I think realistically who was the best player on the court tonight? It was Devin Booker. And it has to be it has to be Devin Booker. But that that should be the case on any given night. Absolutely. If it’s not, hopefully it’s because somebody else went bonkers like the arena did tonight. Devin Booker 36 minutes tonight, 10 of 19 from the field, one of three from deep. Only three three-pointers attempted, 10 of 15 from the line, which means he was going and getting contact initiated. 31 points. It never felt like he was gunning for it, but this is a guy who could average 30. He sleptwalked to it today. He missed five free throws, took three threes, and had 31 points tonight. Well, I mean, and he was five of 12 at halftime. And I’m going to pull up the first quarter stats because he shot worse than that. He he turned it on in that second half like much of the Suns team did. And what really stood out to me was they were under they were under a minute left in that game. You knew that they needed a bucket to kind of push them over the top, make it a two-possession game. And they gave it to Book and he converted. And this is his team. Those are the moments where you’re going to need him the most is to close things out. and he did it tonight. And again, this was a very typical book performance. You look down and you go, “Wow, he got 31.” Yeah. Wow. He he shot over 50% even though early on it didn’t look like that was going to happen. Uh and he just put it together. And I I I love those kind of performances for Book because, you know, he started two of six on the night and and it it was not he was not in a flow. And but when he can do it and it’s it’s not I’m taking every shot. It’s not I’m I’m doing anything overly flashy. It’s just chip away. I’m going to hit shots when when they’re needed. I love that. I love those performances from Book. And this is this is vintage Devin Booker. Yeah. Hey, look. We know we know that a lot is on Devin Booker’s shoulders this season, but this team’s not going to win if it’s just Book that shows up or if Book plays hero ball the entire time. Can’t. Devin Booker had three assists tonight and he never felt like he was a ball hog. In fact, you could probably look at him and say, “Hey, you need to shoot more. You need to do more.” I mean, Dylan Brooks, and I’m not even trying to take a shot Dylan Brooks here. I know that we we talked about the good and the bad with him. He took five more shots than Devin Booker. You take those five away from Brooks, give it to Booker, and if Devin shoots a little better from the free throw line, he shot 10 of 15, right? He shot 66% from the line. Let’s say he shoots 80. That’s easily a 40point game. That’s easily a 40-point game from Devin Book. Sleepwalking. Yeah. I mean, very easily. And the thing is though, and we’ll get to the specific play a little a little later, but he had he may have only had three assists, but he had the biggest assist in the game that changes changed the tide in the fourth quarter. So, yeah, tonight wasn’t a heavy assist night. That’ll change, especially when you’re playing alongside Jaylen Green, too. I think there’ll be some easy assists once he figures out the pick and roll game with Mark Williams. I think there’ll be some uh uh some assists there that are going to come easier. This is this is a starting point and it’s a starting point that looks very familiar to where Devin Booker’s been in the past at some of his peaks. It felt like he still has more levels. Oh, he definitely does. But and and at the same time, Book when they needed him to score, when they needed him to turn it up, he turned it up. He might be the best in the league at finding his spots. And I know that’s frustrating when we want him to do more, but he’s so good at knowing when to step on the game and when to not step on the game. When do I need to be the hero and when do I need to be the facilitator? That’s that’s special. You don’t get that from your guys that could put up 30 and 40. It’s what made KD so special because he didn’t step on the game. It’s what makes Shay so special. He doesn’t step on the game. Book does it in the flow of it. And it it’s it’s incredible to watch in real time and then go back and be like, “Wow, he really did that.” Yeah. And I I think it’s funny because his MO early in his career was, you know, that he was just the guy that was always going to shoot that wasn’t going to pick his spots. It was just volume shooter. And that’s that’s the only reason he scores. And it’s just it’s so not who he is and not what his hallmark of his game’s been as well. So, did you did you read Sorry, I I’m going to go out of order. I don’t know if you’re going to bring this up, but I just saw apparently that the team had put together a video from Jordan’s family. No. Congratulating him and they played it for him after after the win tonight in the locker room. The team put it together like the the players like that. That’s so great. That screams they knew they were going to win. But that that screams to the what they’re trying to build this this whole this whole top down we’re a team. we’re we’re a family. We’re going to we’re going to do this together. That’s the kind of things that it’s not just talk. It’s a action. And they do those kind of things uh to celebrate something that even Jordan not it said it wasn’t all that important to him but important to his family. And it’s cool that that his family got to be a part of that moment in that way. The vibes could literally not be better. I the Eritton could the vibes literally be any better right now? I cannot imagine them being any higher right now. I It’s like the polar opposite of how they felt about the last coach where they’re like, “You can go spend time with your family. Don’t spend it with us, please.” So, you distract me with your shoe. We were supposed to get into runner-up blue collar boys. Okay. We talked about the the dude of the night. And I think what we can do is give love to everybody else. We have to talk about Mark Williams, Ryan Dunn, Royce O’Neal, Colin Gillespie. It was a total team effort tonight and it’s a total team effort on PHNX Sun. Stephen will join us here in a little bit. We’ll get to our play of the game and and the vibes are just immaculate. Oh yeah, it’s so funny to watch the chat because of people who have been here before and haven’t been here before and being like, “Yes, Nookie Monster’s back.” And the other half being like, “Is this a fever dream?” It is. I mean, look, the vibes couldn’t have been better. You’ve literally licked the bottom of your shoe. You’ve gone into Nookie Monster. Like, Hidden Sun Village says Nookie Monster greater than a SMW. Why are you hating? They can both coexist. They both coexist. By the way, I I we have a surprise for Eritton. It’s his first win, right? Yeah, we have your family. No, sorry. I was like, no. Well, we did have we had Mama Mamba in in the chat in the live watch along. That was awesome. Um, everybody in chat just having a great time. So, the the vibes were obviously immaculate and the Suns only won by four. They had the Mountain comeback, but it wasn’t just your blue collar boy and Dylan Brooks. It wasn’t just Grayson Allen, your dude of the night. It wasn’t just Devin Booker. I want to talk first. We’ll get to Mark in a sec about the guy who kind of kept them in it early, especially with energy and effort. I would say a runner-up blueco collar boy of the night, Ryan Dunn. Nine points, 10 rebounds, three assists, one steal, and three blocks for Ryan Dunn. Yeah, I think he buried the lead though. Five of those rebounds, half of the rebounds were on the offensive end. His motor is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. He’s awesome. And and what he he came out early in the game and I know they went down by 20, but I think that could have been a 30 point deficit if it wasn’t for what he did. If it wasn’t for some of those second chance buckets that he was able to get early on. uh and the defense that he was able uh to do early on, even though the rest of the team wasn’t uh wasn’t necessarily at the highest level early on, he came through and brought that energy and and showed that he belongs in that starting unit. and him alongside Dylan Brooks, I think could be a very special duo on uh on the defensive side and on the glass as we go along. Uh I wish the defensive assignments were a little different in the uh in the first half with with both Dman and him, but overall what he was able to do in that first half gave them a shot in the second half. Yeah, tons of energy. I’m sorry I brought too much energy. I forgot Jim Bridger super chat. Uh, thank you. Jim said, “I’m back not brushing my teeth till we win a chip. Actually met Jim in person. His breath smells fantastic.” Uh, I will tell you this. I am brushing my teeth the second I get home after putting that [ __ ] on. You might need to stop at home on the way. Zack Zent with a $2 super chat. Thank you. Zack says, “Book and Nerk, one and0.” Katie Beiel 8 and0 and one hashwatch. Adding the Nerk in there so nasty for no reason. Um, I will say this. I did not expect myself to be rooting against the Rockets so hard, but I was. Um, I will always root against the Lakers whether DeAndre Aen is there or not. He forgot to say that Drew Eubanks is own one now. Bro, Drew Eubanks had a couple moments, dog, that I was like, whoa. Yeah. And then a couple of the moments where I was like, well, I I’ll take I I’ll take Mark Williams as my uh as my center over Nick or uh over uh over Drew Eubank. Well, let’s talk about Mark. So, Osoaro gets the start tonight, but only plays 19 minutes. Mark Williams coming off the bench, but plays 24. That’s a hashtag throwback to Mike Benhozer. Um, but Mark Williams, six points, 11 rebounds, two offensive rebounds, two blocks, your favorite, a plus 15 on the night. And more importantly than starting Espo, he closed the game. Did I just get quiet? I mean, he he clo Well, yeah, you uh you stopped yelling. Okay. Sorry. I just make sure that my naturally Nobody’s ever said that about me. Uh, no. So, yeah, he he closed the game and he played. Guess what? He played coach said he was going to play between 20 and 24 minutes. He played 24 minutes on the dot uh tonight there. We knew he was on that minutes restriction and you could tell that they were were trying to find a spot. He had played 15 uh minutes uh through three quarters and then played nine in that fourth and and was a huge part of clean up the defensive boards. Had those two blocks. had that unbelievable dunk, the lob, that lob dunk at one point. You can see why they were so intent on making sure that they acquired this guy and why they felt it was so important to walk him through these steps of their plan. Uh because if he can do that and and can wind up doing it for 30 minutes, 32 minutes, uh as they as they ramp him up, uh he’s gonna he’s going to look really nice. And that’s Ozo played played pretty well in in that starting role, but obviously he’s just keeping it he’s keeping it warm for Mark Williams who played what was that five more minutes than Oso and did a hell of a job tonight. I mean, yeah, OSO also played good. Seven points, four rebounds, and an assist in 19 minutes. He’s going to be getting backup center minutes. We clearly saw that. Interestingly enough, Nick Richards, the highest scoring center tonight, only played five minutes. He scored eight points and had three rebounds in five minutes. Nick Richards, he’s looked good. I mean, the Sun center rotation’s awesome. You didn’t even see Kam Malawatch, which is insane to say because I don’t think we’ve ever said that at any point in Suns history. The Sun center rotation is good. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, even when DA was playing at his best, like, you didn’t have an incredible backup. I mean, Dario was good, but he’s not like a true big man. He’s more of like a four five. And I love Frank, but it’s not like, man, like the Suns were deep at center, right? This team feels like they’re so connected in a sense of oncourt play. Like, screw the offc court stuff, the cheering for each other, all of that. They knew when to find Mark. They knew when to throw the lob. And and Mark knew that like this isn’t Charlotte, man. I know that there’s not high expectations for this team, but they’re higher than Charlotte. You don’t need Mark Williams to go out there and put up 20 and 10. It’d be nice. You need Mark Williams to do the dirty work, to grab the rebounds, to play good defense, and to finish. That’s all you need. And he did that tonight in just 24 minutes. The Suns haven’t had a center like him because, you know, DeAndre Aton was just as athletic, if not more athletic, than Mark Williams. But you even just saw tonight, Mark has way more fervor going to the rim. And like Aon at his peak at with the Suns is a better player than Mark Williams has ever been in his career. But Mark’s aggression is something that this team has not had at center since Stat was playing small ball five. Yeah, it’s it’s crazy. Puda the skitso says all deep at center and lack of point guards. What is this team? It is so counterintuitive. Defense driven, four deep at center. Uh really no actual point guard in terms of traditional point guard. It is the antithesis of what traditional Suns basketball is. And maybe that’s just what we need. Do you think Mark Williams starts the next game? Yes. Against uh the Los Angeles Clippers who lost to the Utah Jazz by 40,000 today. Um but Bradley Beal played and had five points. He did. He totally played which is hey better than him not playing I guess. Well actually is it? Um you do. So, you think Mark starts on the the first end of a backto-back? Do you think he plays the second night of a backto-back against Yokic in Denver? I think it depends on how Friday’s game goes and how many minutes they needed. You think he’s going to play any more than 24 minutes again? I think like what today showed is that they are not going to rush anything. You can close, but you’re not playing over 24 minutes. And they might continue to bring him off the bench. I don’t know because you’re going to be playing against more sizable centers. Yes. more uh offensively talented centers over obviously over the next couple of games. Uh I think you start him against Zub. Uh maybe maybe you just look at at the Denver game on the second end of a back to back and go look nobody’s gonna stop Joic. So we maybe you get cutesy with that. But I think he starts I think this was just a all right, you haven’t been out there uh and played, you know, yet with this group. We’re going to we’re going to slow play it a little bit. I just I don’t I guess I don’t personally understand and obviously I don’t know the details behind this. I’m fine with him starting by the way. I’m fine with it. But just trying to talk this out. If you’re going to bring him off the bench, does bringing him off the bench for one game if you’re still going to keep him to 24 minutes really make a difference? And if you were going to start him against weaker competition, like today would be the day instead of throwing him in the fire against Zubots. Like I I get what you’re saying and I I think there’s definitely a good chance that Mark starts, but if they have this laid out pre-disposition plan, I don’t know if it’s a oneame thing even though he was the best center on the court tonight. I just I I think I worry that OSO gets eaten alive on on the block against Zubac uh on Friday if you start him. And you can’t I mean you can’t have another slow start, right? And and I don’t know. I I I don’t know because I’m not going to try to get in the the head of of Jordan. Clearly, we didn’t know today. Yeah. I’m not gonna try to figure out what what this this plan that they’ve guarded so tightly is. I just he obviously was the best center. He’s obviously the best defensive center that they’re going to have and he can dominate on the boards and I I feel like you can’t you can’t mess around these next two games. You gota you got to play well to start. I think I’d probably start him. I would choose to start him. I’m just I don’t get what one game off the bench changes. I guess I just I feel like there’s a plan. How about I I say this. I don’t think that OSO starts. You think Nick Richards would start? I I think it’ll be He only played five minutes tonight. He played well. He only played five minutes. Maybe Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe Maybe they just believe in Oso that much. But I don’t know. I I don’t think I start Oso on Friday. Okay, we got a couple more guys we still need to talk about. Specifically, Colin Gillespie and Royce O’Neal. two very deserving guys who deserve a good amount of time uh dedicated to them. We’re going to do that. We’ll look at the numbers. We’ll get to our play of the game. We’ll talk to Stephen and we’ll do it all after our final break. Own over 70 of them. most from becoming branded Bills now because they are the most comfortable hats. They’re breathable in the summer which is a necessity, but they look great and they’ve got fantastic uh they they’ve got fantastic hats, Suns hats, Mercury hats, they’ve got deals with ASU, U of A, GCU. Back doing pregame, postgame show on Friday and on Saturday as well. Uh, won’t miss a game. So, uh, we are excited to continue to share the season with you and we’re excited to continue to break down this game from a numerical standpoint. It’s time for by the numbers presented by Desert Financial Credit Union, Arizona’s number one credit union, named by Forbes Espo. The numbers look a little different now than they did uh for most of the game. Yeah, this is it ain’t a beauty, but hey, you’re all right is the way. It’s a thunder road win here. Uh, Sunshot 47% from the field of 45 of 95 uh to the Kings 47 of 94 54% which is what’s interesting here is at one point the Suns had a 10 field goal advantage uh and it wound up closing that gap to just a one field goal advantage. Uh they only shot 29% from deep, 10 of 34. Uh the Kings shot 37% but it was just nine of 24. free throw line was the difference tonight. The Amari Starttomire curse who shot the honorary first shot tonight from the free throw line. He missed and it cursed this game from line. Sunshot 20 of 2871.4% and the Kings, well, they went full Kings from the free throw line. They were 13 of 23, 56% from the line. 51 rebounds for the Suns, 37 uh for the Kings, and a hell of an offensive rebounding night for the Suns as well. Kings won the assist numbers 24 to 23. And that so you get a 120 116 victory as the Suns find a way to fight back over the Kings. Uh Tracy with a 499 super chat with the most important number says, “Just to note, Suns win without purple pants.” So zero purple pants, but one Suns win. Bright purple shoes. Hey, that did wind up in my mouth. Did you see that, by the way? Yeah. Tracy, did you see this man put his his literal shoe in his mouth? Should I do it again? Dude, no. All right, I won’t. No. I I need to know if you saw that. Um I I want to go back to some of these numbers because there’s a lot of really interesting things. And obviously the the rebounding category is something that we heard a lot, right? You mentioned a lot of promises in the offseason, a lot of things that we’ve been told we’re going to see. Rebounding and offensive rebounding was huge. Uh especially messaging from the higherups. 51 rebounds to 37 that stayed consistent. The offensive rebounds for this team was undeniable. Like you just saw it from pure effort and energy. They had double 18-9 offensive rebounds of the Kings. Espo, they were outshooting the Kings. The percentage was bad, but the rebounds kept them in it. And that sustained while the shooting evened out in the second half. Well, and offensive rebounds is all effort and they they did it. They did exactly what they told us they were going to do. They did exactly what they showed us in the preseason. They crashed those bs early and they crashed those boards often and that that gave them that fighting chance that kept them alive at different times throughout this game. So, I I am very happy with what we saw on that offensive glass, do I think they’ll double their opponents every night? No. But in a game like this, you needed every single one of those. Uh Russell Smith, whose birthday is today and is a die hard, says, “Stadium was electric and I met Brian Gregory and Josh Bartlestein and they were nice people.” What a birthday for Russell. They did it for you, Russell. They won this game for you. Also, by the way, Tracy said, “How could I let you do that?” Like I’m in charge of you. No. Stop. No. Enough. I’m begging him not to. Noah Wick PHNX party time. Do we hit the like goal? Is that why we’re doing party time? Not hit the like goal. Oh, well then we don’t do party time. 225. Or are we doing 250? 225 is what’s listed there. 2 225. By the way, we also have a UK Suns fan uh in the chat. Uh Hfett, I’m sorry if I mispronounced your name. Says, “Up since 4:00 a.m. here in the UK. Glad I didn’t go back to sleep and say to watch this team grind it out. Now off to work. Go Suns. Have a good day at work. I mean, no better way to start your day. We We experience that with the China games. Uh so it’s a different type of grind and we really appreciate uh you doing that for sure. And then you hopping on and being here with us too. We got to talk about Kong Gillespie. We got to talk about Royce O’Neal. I keep on putting it off. But before we hit overtime, we have to get to the love the play. It’s time for that. It’s the best play of the game, Espo. And of course, it is brought to you by our close personal friends over at the Arizona Lottery play and gift today with the play of the game. Love the play presented by Arizona Lottery. I’m going to hand this over to you. The play I love tonight was when Devin Booker cut down the lane. Could have easily went to the hoop, tried to convert, tried to get an end one, and instead he saw Grayson Allen in the corner. He went down the lane and he kicked it to him. Grayson hit the three and that was the backb breakaker for me. That was the point where I went, “Okay, this is going to happen.” You know, you felt you felt, “Okay, they’re going to get the lead. This this feels good.” But that was the moment I went, “This Sun team’s going to complete the comeback and win.” So, that is my that is my love to play play of the game. Brought to you by our friends at the Arizona Lottery. I I love that. Let’s clip that before I say this. Uh Jim Bridger says, “I’m sleeping butt naked tonight in my sun sheets.” Uh, a lot of love for the Mark Williams lob. The Mark Williams lob, I think, was also one of those like, “Holy crap” moment. That was a fun That was definitely a fun play. I was looking at it from a backbreaker moment. The most important play, you know, that was that was it. But no, the Mark Williams one is right up there. Maybe why don’t we Eritton, if it’s not too much, why don’t we put I can do I can put a pole in the chat. Why don’t we put a poll in the You keep cooking. I’ll get in here and I’ll put a poll in the chat. Mark Williams and the thing with God I keep on saying we’re gonna talk about Colin and Royce and I know we need to but one one last thing if you’ll allow me Chad about Mark Williams the verticality he had a failed dunk right before that when he was he bodied spun in the lane and went up for it and then a couple of these rebounds dude he was getting up high like really high. Oh he’s got bounce. Yeah and that is that is huge. It’s all about the health. I mean that we know that it’s going to come down to that that it’s that it’s all about the health. That’s it. Uh Trevor with a 199 super chat says, “Imagine what it will look like when Green plays. The Suns were missing presumably their second best player.” Well, definitely their second best offensive player. And in the first half when you couldn’t get a bucket, that’s where a guy like that comes in in handy, especially the way he likes to score aggressively going down the lane, getting to the hoop, drawing fouls. That would have been that would have gone a long way in a first half where you weren’t finding those shots. Oh no. Well, Brad, who by the way is the curse of the Suns and the Cardinals. Uh producer for the Cardinals, former producer for us says, “I think the play of the game was when I left the building and the Suns started to compete.” That is true. He’s literally the curse. Keep this man away from my franchise. I can’t do it. Can we Can we send him to like LA and and let him curse? Yeah. The Lakers don’t need that. We got to get him We need to get him on the Wildat show. They’ve already got one of our curses over there. We need to get that man on the Wildcat. They got two of our curses over in LA. Uh, by the way, Mark Lob early early lead 63 to 37%. I get what you’re saying with the Grayson. People love a good dunk. I did vote I voted for the Mark Lob just so you know. Look, I get it. People love a good dunk. Yeah, a good book to Grayson is is when they won the game, though. Uh, people love a good dunk. We love a good bench mob. We’re going to talk about the bench mob. We’re going to hear from Jordan. We’re going to hear from Devin Booker. We’re going to hear from Stephen. Uh, we’re about to hit overtime here, but to the 550 of you that are watching live, we ain’t going anywhere. If you’re watching on TV, the party always continues over at gophnx.com. PHNX party time, y’all. Uh, we’re now entering overtime. Uh, hit that like button, hit that subscribe button, uh, and hang out with us here as we continue on our PHNX Suns postgame show. My computer is about to die, but I am feeling more alive than I ever have because of this team and especially because of this bench mob. Espo, uh, dealer’s choice. Colin Gillespie, Royce O’Neal, where would you like to go? Let’s go with Colin Gillespie first. Uh, I liked what I saw from him off the bench and what he was able to provide this team tonight. Another guy, I mean, obviously he’s villain junior for this team. He didn’t have a great shooting night, but was able to get it done on the assist side. Had a steal, had a block for as as off of a shooting night, only shooting three of nine was plus nine in the most hated stat that I have. But overall, uh once he gets that shooting to to fall, which everybody struggled with that tonight, he’s off to the races. He did all the little things again. Yeah, he he was the type of guy as a as a guard. He got to the paint. He was playing with confidence. Like you said, only one of four from deep, but he still hit that one and was pulling up. You don’t need Kong Gillespie to score 20 points. You just don’t need him to do that. You need him to be good energy, good defense, pass the ball well, which he did. I believe Mark Williams first points as a Phoenix Sun came off of a Kong Gillespie pass. And just be fearless in 22 minutes. Kong Gillespie, like a lot of this team, played fearless. We we mentioned Dylan Brooks being a tone setter, Ryan Dunn being a tone setter. Kong Gillespie is one of the top tone setters on this team as well. So, I I loved what I saw from him and I think that he’ll also get better and better. And real quick before we get Stephen here, uh, talk about Royce O’Neal. 12 points for Royce O’Neal, five rebounds, two assists, by the way. Two offensive rebounds and a steal. Four of eight from the field, three of seven from three. That that section there in the third quarter when the Suns were making a massive comeback, that was sparked by some massive plays from Royce O’Neal. Yeah. And look, Royce being Roy going out there isn’t going to have the flashiest box scorer in most cases. Uh, a lot of times you’re not going to have him as the focal point of everything you’re watching, but you look down and he’s done all the little things and has taken care of the basketball, has gotten you those rebounds, has gotten you the second chance points, has hit a handful of big threes that have really helped you out. I mean, he had he had the most threes made on the team. He was tied with Grayson Allen. Both of them three for seven from from deep tonight. He’s he’s an important piece. I know everybody’s like, “Oh, Trey Trey Royce, right? He’s an important piece to what they’re trying to do off the bench.” Couple of massive things. Okay. Uh we hit the like goal. Big shout out to to Megan and everybody in the chat who’s been pushing for it. And yes, Be’s gifts membership. And who else does it go to than the birthday boy Russell Smith is gifted a membership on his birthday? Wow, you could not have planned that better. I believe it randomly goes to somebody. I don’t know. I I believe it’s just random. Sounds like it might. And if not, Russell still deserved it. Uh, shout out to Bees for sending a gift membership. Russell getting the membership. Russell, I need to see an SMW in the chat from you. Happy birthday to you, Russell. Wow. I mean, this is this is awesome. T with a stat says tied for the second largest season opener comeback in NBA history. Wow, that is a fun fun stat there. And I believe Devin Booker set the franchise record for most 30 point performances in a season opener with three. This was his third of his career. Third out of the 11 season openers that he’s had. So, big night all around for uh setting some records. I mean, this is this is great. Uh I nothing could make today better except for one thing. And and if you guys want to see Stephen, you’re going to have to maybe get some more likes. I know we just hit our like goal, but we’re going to need a little more because Aiden, if you want me to ask about some Gortat screens, which I know that he really, really, really wants me to ask him about. I might need a couple more likes over here. So, hit that like button, hit that subscribe button as well. Or if we get three uh three people to become supporter club members right now, we’ll let them in. No, we’re just going to let them in anyway. N let them sweat it. For the first time this season, no uh no fun intro yet. We will get there. But uh we’re super excited to welcome on the uh third host of this program, a man who’s gonna make us a whole lot smarter after this SMW. It is SPG Stephen. Am I right? I mean, talk about a tone setting tone setting affair. That second half was everything that they have talked about all all preseason, all training camp and we here. Stephen, I I know we’re here. We’re so happy. We’ve just spent the last hour plus talking about this team. What were the vibes like postgame? Uh talking to Ah and Book and company about starting the season 1 and 0. I mean, it was all about from Jordan Knox’s perspective, they made adjustments, but he made sure to note that it was more about them just being better with their effort, better with their competing levels, better with their activity. Uh, I feel like that was a big difference more than anything else that we saw. They played defense in a way that we saw them in the in the preseason games that we didn’t see in the first half of this game. So, they were they were active, they were aggressive, they were very very very physical. um sometimes coming with altercations which we saw but this is a team that’s not afraid to mix it up. This is a brand new era of Suns basketball. It’s not something that we’ve seen from this franchise the last what three to four seasons now and they’re here. Sounded it sounded like that there were some celebratory things that they did for Jordan Au after his first career win. Uh what did the guys talk about and how did they celebrate coach tonight? Yeah, they they talked about well Dylan Brooks in particular talked about his work ethic and how Dylan prided himself in being a first in the gym, last out the gym kind of guy and he said a lot of times he sees Jordan not in some capacity when he’s coming in and when he’s leaving out because they’re the only two that are usually there. Um, so that part of it, the preparation side and the kind of confidence that emanates from knowing that you have somebody that’s a ride or die with their preparation more than it is their talking and more than it is their, you know, kind of using their cache as an advantage. They want their work ethic to be what leverages buy in. And I feel like that’s a lot of what we saw in this game. U I’m sure there were some choice words that were shared in the locker room at halftime and uh the way that they came out is a clear indicator of that message being received but that that message also being accepted and understood and we saw a team that was literally night and day from itself in the second half compared to the first half. Stephen Mark Williams did not start tonight but he did play the most minutes there at center. What did you see from his son’s debut? And if you just had to guess, do you feel like he’ll be starting on Friday against the Clippers? I don’t know if he starts on Friday just because they’re on a minutes restriction with him and they don’t want to put him too far into the mix with things and then have to lose him for minutes in the second half. So, it’s going to be kind of a push and pull, give and take there. Um, also this team is very comfortable with OSO at the five considering they spent the entire preseason with him there. So I feel like they’ll kind of ride things out until Marcus is ready to start to take on closer to a starting rim of minutes on average per game. Um, but I think he played well today. Devin Booker mentioned that he he was annoyed with himself for missing Mark Williams on two or three live opportunities and he said the coaching staff told him about it at halftime as well. Uh, because he said, and I quote, he’s a guy that can go up there and get that thing. Uh so be looking for him to kind of atone for things from the past and uh getting that pass up above the above the rim for Mark Williams and letting him do the things that he does best going forward. Some offensive struggles early on. Did they talk much about what they thought attributed to that in the first half? Yeah, they did. Um they said more than anything it was the fact that they were playing off of taking the ball out the net so often. give up 71 points in the first half. That’s going to slow any offense down, even the fastest offense in history. So, it started with the defense and them doing a much better job of playing with activity there and then playing off of stops, whether they were sprinting into transition or just generally getting into the half court with tempo. And then from there, once they got comfortable defensively, then you start to see them get into a little bit more of the offense and getting the second chance points, which more than anything was a big kind of uh identity stamping uh dynamic of the game for them. and they did a great job with that part as well. So, it felt like just again in the second half they started to put it together. It wasn’t just the second chance points, it was also them playing off of stops and them just generally playing the game on their terms. Stephen, I got to ask you this question. Uh, our guy, your guy Aiden, uh, Mr. Anti-inverted pick and roll would love for you to talk about how the Suns utilize the Gortat screens. So, for those who don’t know, can you let people know what a Gortat screen is and how the Suns utilized it to win tonight? Yeah, Gortat screens are just when the person that’s screening screens their man because of the way that their matchup is trying to cover for the person that’s on the ball. So, they’re very strategic with it. They’re doing it with their guards. They also do it with their bigs. And I think that found that was a good way they found success in getting paint touches. And that’s another kind of point where they were plus 10 in today’s game in terms of scoring in the paint. Um, their guards were getting downhill, especially Grayson Allen whenever they wanted them to get there. So, the Gordai screens were definitely part of it. Uh, but I think just generally they did a good job in the second half with their spacing compared to the compared to how the first half went. And it also helps when you start making some threes. They didn’t make their first three until almost halfway through the second quarter. And then from that point on, it picked up and they ultimately finished the game. game. I think they were plus three or four in terms of uh three-pointers made on the game, but that was a that was a big shift considering the first half pretty much they were down almost double digits with that. So, they did a good job there. And uh yes, the Gortas screens Aiden uh played a part in it. Uh any any questions after the game about how Amari Starttomire jinxed the free throw line or how he got so jacked? No questions that I heard about it, but uh shout out Kell Kellen Olsson. He mentioned to me a press. He was like, “You got to have them take layups or something other than free throws because that’s just that’s just not a uh that’s not a conducive setup for whoever it is you putting on the spot there. They probably ain’t hooped in too long. And on top of that, you putting them in front of a crowd and they probably haven’t practiced shots before then. That’s not that’s not fair.” No, I I 100% agree with that. And when they started missing free throws, it was uh another request from the chat before we let you go. Stephen says, “More pistol and horn sets, please.” Rubis tell SPG. I mean, yeah, I think that that’s part of what they want to get to. I think they’ll get some more of that once Jaylen is back. I think he’ll be that’ll probably be his wheelhouse more than anything to get him in movement. Uh but yeah, those those actions for sure. Uh we saw Deon Booker getting into a little bit of the things we saw him be some of the best of his version of himself at. Um just kind of playing from the elbows and horns. Shout out to Espo for his horns actions. Um, you’ll see more of it going forward because Jordan Knaut definitely sees the value in it. But yeah, we saw him doing a good job in the half court offensively in that second half. And I think that’s some of the bones of what they’ll be getting into more going forward. We save the most important question for last, Stephen. Are you aligned? Of course. Hey, uh, make sure you give Stephen a follow at StephenPG3. Of course, he’ll probably be posting breakdowns and clips and everything that you need to know over on his Twitter account. And, uh, we’ll play some of the sound that you were able to get here in a second. Do you any final thoughts before we let you go? Um, when I hopped on before I came on to the screen, I heard it was someone’s birthday in the chat. So, happy birthday to who was it? Russell. Happy birthday to you, Russell. And who was it that was Steve Nash with the assist on getting members? Bees. Yes. Shout out Russell. Happy birthday to you. And shout out to Bees for being one of the MVPs of the chat. This is not new to this. He’s true to this. And it’s just another moment in that. So, we appreciate all of y’all. Meatloaf wanted you to know that it’s a win. You can unbutton that top button and relax a little bit if you want too. Enjoy your evening. Button top buttons, man. We don’t do all that around you. Thanks, Stephen. We appreciate you. We’ll talk to you soon. All right. Uh, we got some sound to get into. Uh, Eritton worked very very hard uh on getting all this. So, I I say we just we just go for it. Yeah, why not? It’s only 11:00. Let’s do I mean th this one that was showing 12 hours. Hey, you can go if you want. Uh, this one uh was sent and said, quote, “This one is good. This is Devin Booker on his game tonight. Uh it was just nasty overall. You know, kind of threw out. Made a few shots in the third, but you know, I think six or seven turnovers and five missed free throws. Um you know, it hurt a lot worse in a loss. So, you know, I’m happy we scrapped that out and figured away. I need you to just cut that. That was nasty and we’ll just use that anytime I say something stupid. Uh he’s not wrong. No, no, he totally could have played so much better. Five missed free throws, the turnovers. He got a little tacked on defense early on, too. Had some fouls. Yeah, there that first the Lavine back door cut. Yeah. Uh Sean says, “Can we get to 300 likes before the show ends?” That’s a great question. Depends probably on how long we let the show go. We’re at over 250 right now. Uh Book continued to talk not just about himself, but was also asked about uh Mark Williams in his debut. Yeah, I think I miss him on Two or Three Lives. um you know that you know some of the coaches told me and you know definitely something I’ll go look back and get used to cuz you know he he’ll go up and get it. Um you know so I I typically always reading the backside of the defense and pass to a three but having a rim threat like that somebody that can catch it you know I have to you know reward him for that. Missed him on a couple lobs but he’s going to have to get used to it. First of all book’s never been the best lob thrower but he also hasn’t had the best guys to throw lobs too. just I just said thoughts of the 2021 finals there. But no, I I look I look forward to uh to him figuring out to to him figuring it out with Mark Williams. And it is not he has multiple guys that he can run pick and roll actions with to throw some lobs to all of their centers. This is all this is all about getting chemistry, figuring it out. I mean, that’s the first time he set foot in a game with Mark Williams on a court. So, yeah, it’s going to take a little time to figure that out. How about we talked about when’s the last time the Suns had a defensive identity? Uh, never. All four of the Sun Centers are lobb threats. Yeah. I thought I thought you were queuing something up there. No, there was that pregnant pause. I was waiting to air it. What video do we have? No, I’m just I’m pointing out something. Did Book sneak in a 67 in that video? Did he? Let’s go back. Let’s Let’s go back and listen. Uh it was just nasty overall, you know, kind of threw out. I made a few shots and yeah, I think I missed him on two or three lobs. Um you know, that you know, some of the coaches told me and you know, definitely something I’ll go look back and get used to cuz you know, he he’ll go up and get it. Um you know, so I I typically always reading the backside of the defense and pass to a three, but having a rim threat like that, somebody that can catch it, you know, I have to, you know, reward him for that. My bad. It was the wrong one. It was apparently this one. Uh it was just nasty overall. You know, kind of threw out. Made a few shots in the third, but you know, I think six or seven turnovers and five missed free throws. Um six or seven. Yeah, he he did it on purpose. He didn’t go six turnovers. He did it on purpose. He to I bet I bet somebody dared him to do it. That’s the kind I don’t think he did. Six or seven. Uh 67 was the amount of shots that Dylan Brooks took tonight. Uh and Deon Booker talked about Dylan being Dylan. I mean, you know, that you know, that’s part of his MO. Um and and we need that. You know, it’s definitely something that um we didn’t have a lot of last year. Um just getting everybody riled up, getting everybody in tune to the game. And you know, you can’t teach that stuff and you know, you can’t value it because, you know, it’s super important. I love that he’s just like, “We didn’t have any [ __ ] last year.” They didn’t. Who was the big Who was the biggest [ __ ] not on Twitter last season? Oh, uh, probably Book himself trying to trying to be that guy. Yeah. Who? Grayson, maybe. Maybe. Yeah. No, this is this is This is the Who was the biggest [ __ ] last year? There wasn’t. I mean, there I think it is Grayson. Royce. Grayson a year after having a kid was our our biggest [ __ ] He was just sleeping. Yeah. He was sleepdeprived. Cranky Grayson Allen. Yeah. No, look, I mean, there’s a reason this is the attitude era with the Suns because they’re embracing that. And I mean, Book freaking laughing in a postgame press conference. I mean, yeah. Yeah. Book immediately you say talk about Dylan, he’s just he’s just smiling and laughing. That guy loves Dylan Brooks, which is so funny if you know the history between those two. Uh, we love Coach Aught. The team obviously loves Coach A. He spoke overall about the comeback and the win tonight for his first ever win. We knew we’d be tested at some point in this obviously early in the season. I don’t know if we expected it that that early. Um yeah, things just weren’t going well early early in the game. You know, we couldn’t make a shot. We felt like we got good looks. Um they hit a couple tough ones and it just kind of snowballs, but we hung in there. You know, that third quarter again, 36-21. That’s what we’re about. So, bounce back, stay in it, stay together. Um then when it’s going well like we had it going, that spirit that just uplifts us from the bench, from the crowd. You could feel it there in that third quarter, especially early. Got a couple extra possessions that led to some threes. Um yeah, that that that was fun. The most Texan Pennian of all time. I love that that smile, that crafty. He rocks, man. I He’s a basketball sicko. Yeah, I love it. Like you never mind. That’s too much leg for you there. Uh, no. Show us your It’s after dark mouth. It’s PHX Suns after dark. Anyways, um, Coach is somebody that I I’ve just grown extraordinarily more high on for this entire off seasonason, hearing all the guys talk about him, seeing how they all treat him, and just you he’s got that crazy, like the good crazy. Um, that’s a crazy comment, Megan. Uh, eight more likes and apparently the tickle monster is going to get me tonight. I’m terrified. I don’t want to I’m scared of the tickle monster. I don’t want to get tickled. Uhhuh. Anyway, uh you put your shoe in your mouth, man. Don’t Don’t you dare shrink away from me when you put the literal bottom of the earth into your mouth. We’ve uh we’ve got full PHX after dark. Hey, what do you got going on when you get home? He’s going to go play skate and drink a couple beers. Yeah, that’s that’s 100% what he’s going to be doing. Um, Coach A is is somebody who I I growingly have more faith in. And I think one of the big parts that I have faith in him is is the second unit, how prepared they are, his rotations, and who he picks. And this second unit, I don’t think by any stretch of means, like really won this team this game. Like they got back in it. And coach spoke about those guys uh after the game. Yeah, there’s nothing rag tag about that group. That’s that group is gets after it. That’s what we’re about. Um, you know, they they our starting unit started to get us back into that third quarter and that group, that’s what they do. They play hard, they scrap. Um, Royce obviously made shots that helps um get us extra possessions. That group we stuck with, we stuck with into the fourth quarter and we’re going to stick with them as long as we were on that run. Um, that’s what it there’s 82 of these and tonight it was that group. You know, on Friday it could be someone else. Um, we’re going to need everyone and it’s a great reminder to all of us. It’s you don’t know how it’s going to turn out. You don’t know how it’s going to go. ES and flows of these games. Um, that’s why we’re in the business. That’s why we love it. Okay. I don’t think we’ve seen Jordan not actually happy yet. Like, he’s usually Jordan not happy scares me a little bit in the best way possible. Like I’m and I love what he’s saying about that second unit, but I also love that he acknowledges there’s always going to be likely somebody different with this team that it’s going to take a lot of different things for them to to win and it’s not going to be one simple formula for this group. Yeah. Uh ain’t nothing rag tag about that group. That might be a quote that I have to tweet after this. By the way, Erton, drop your skate username in chat. Hson Sun Village wants to play skate with you. Ain’t nothing rag tag about that group. also seems like a tagline for this podcast. I think uh I would say there’s definitely a rag tag element to to this. Uh by the way, uh I think it was Lenny said, “If they get 50 wins, uh will I wax a strip of my leg?” If they get if they get to 45, I’ll wax the entire leg. How about that? Mark it down. That’s a members only video. Game game one feelings right there. That’s not for free. Uh, Megan actually knows how to wax. So, uh, we can we can bring her in and we’ll do it live as a member. I don’t think she want I don’t think she wants to. Maybe from the knee down. I don’t think she No, I mean, nobody wants to touch this. All right. Oh, man. After dark. Okay, we are in Phx Suns after dark. There’s still about 500 of you in here hanging out with us to celebrate that 1 and0 feeling. We’ve smashed our light goal. The Suns are 1 and0. I mean, the vibes are immaculate. The vibes are awesome. Unfortunately, we are gonna start to wind things down here on PH. Yeah, let’s just keep going until Friday’s game, right? Let’s just let’s just stay going. Everybody talking about tickling me, man. I don’t want to ever Everybody’s talking about tickling me. Can you imagine somebody who just jumped in here? We’re an hour 21 in. It’s 11:00 at night local time and the first thing they hear me say is, “Everybody wants to tickle me.” I’m showing ankle. Like, it’s just weird. Yeah. You’re showing ankle. I’m getting tickled. Eritton’s playing skate and drinking beers right now. Right now, I mean, he’s already got the beer on. He’s got the controller. Yeah, Eritton’s checked out. He’s gone. Um, let’s let’s just final thoughts, chat. Espo, freckled Mamba. One and0. I I I have one question. Oh, boy. All right. Where the show’s never end. When when I when I get my leg when I get my leg waxed, what random Suns player should I should I yell out like that? You know how they Oh, Kelly Clarkson and a 40-year-old virgin. I feel like I should just scream. Ah, Jake. Ah, blow out. All right. Now we can wind this. No, this is important. This is really important. I think you got to do Ah, Gordon Gerjek. Oh, that’s a good poll. It’s a good pull. He scream a little Casey Jacobson. Um, okay. Eritton is gonna be drinking beer soon, so we know his vibes are high. We’ll check in with Mr. Grey Jersey here in a second. Ah, Jock Landell. Jollandelle, he might be there with you. Too messy, too. I’m just doing this for the chat. I I think I think I think uh Jock’s probably gonna be there holding your hand. Um Rodney Rogers. Yeah, Jake Fos, why don’t you read Love Y’alls? Scroll up a little bit. Where Where are we? Love y’all. Why don’t you Why don’t you read Love Y’alls? No. Tony Duke, Alfred Pay, Frankie Smokes. Oh, of course we got to naming dudes, but it just had to be because Espo was getting his leg waxed apparently. Um, Espo, your your final thoughts more Lexi Galloway. Uh, your final thoughts on one and0 that one and0 feeling. Espo Williams that one and a good one. All right. Okay. Uh, no, man. This is good stuff. Richard Dub and Son Village says, “End the show.” Chris says, “Where can I find that shirt on me?” Um, actually, I don’t know where I got this shirt. I will I will say this. This is what we had hoped for in terms of the effort. This is what we thought they could be. It was not the It was not the straight line we hoped that they get there. This team was never going to be. No, but this was this was a good start. There will be lots of moments that will not feel this good this season, but this is a great place to begin uh a a year that we hope will uh will be a lot better at least feelingwise, vibeswise, than the last two have been. I want it on the record and I don’t care if I’m wrong. Taan Alexander. Now you got to scream. Ah, that one two-way guy we had a year or two ago. Those G-League point guards that De Booker had to deal with at the beginning of his career. Uh, okay. I was I was trying to say something poignant. Uh, I I want this on the record. I’m glad that that we’re live right now. Uh, I believe in this team. Now, do I believe in this team to go on and and win the Western Conference? No. Do I believe in this team to go on and and and win a couple playoff series? No. No. But I do believe in this iteration of this team and the the way that they have played in the preseason, the way that they have played in game one, the way that they have showed heart, grit, defense, they all love each other. They they love their coach, they all have a chip on their shoulder, and they have a superstar. They have Devin Booker who can sleepwalk to 30 points. This is not the most talented team in the NBA. This isn’t the most talented team in their division. This is a team that is going to win games they are not supposed to. This is a team that is going to show up every single night and deliver on what Matt Ishbia and Brian Gregory said and make the fans at the morg proud. Aligned. Everybody’s aligned. Everybody’s going to try and lose some games, but damn it, they’re going to win a lot more than a lot of people think. And I want that on the record. I will be the guy with the big sword as everybody’s coming at me going down with this team because I believe in this iteration of the Phoenix Suns and I want it on the record. I’m glad you said sword Iron Baines. Suns must win. Tyler Ulus Suns will win. A cheating fry. Suns did win. I’m out of names. The chat the chat’s out of them. So freckled Mamba. Ah, Freckle Mamba. What what are your final thoughts on on today as a whole? Uh, I think it was a great way to turn the page. I think that basketball is a game of emotion and this team, as we saw during one game, can bring out all of the emotions in a 48minute game. And I think as fans, we should let the valleys not be as deep and let the peaks be super high. You know what I mean? Yeah. 100% agree. People talk about staying at level. We don’t need to do that. Not this year. No. Like have let’s have fun. Uh Suns Worldwide in the chat. Hi Suns Worldwide says, “Why do people keep on saying SWW?” Uh nice shy there, boy. We have we have uh coined Suns must win, Suns will win, and Suns did win. Those are three uh three patents for the PHX Sun Show. But good to see ah Quinton Kobo couldn’t read the other one. It scrolled up too fast. What have we devolved into? I know Peters March Gat. All right, you can follow the show. The show that covers the 1 and0 Phoenix Suns. By the way, currently the eighth seed in the Western Conference, right ahead, the ninth seed Oklahoma City Thunder for those who want to know. Uh you can follow us at phnx_s through the not so low valleys and the really really high peaks. will be there on Twitter and on Instagram and of course navigating us along the way making all the wonderful graphics, the thumbnails, and making sure these shows look good, sound good, and everything is good. It’s a aka the freckle mamba behind the Mac, making all the magic happen. Give it up for him. First regular season postgame show. Hey, big win. Uh confirmed lights are not too bright for the freckled Mamba. Uh you can follow Stephen, like I mentioned earlier, Stephen PG3. That’s Stephen with a ph. Uh he will be at every single home game. He’ll be with us for road games of course on every 3 pm show as well. Make sure you follow him. Get all your updates from the Suns beat practice, shootarounds, pregame, postgame, live game, everything. Ah, Shavelick Randolph. You can follow the guy who is going through something today. Who put a shoe in his mouth? Who’s screaming Shavelick Randolph Childress? I don’t like this. I don’t like this. This is payback for the watch along. All right. I didn’t do anything bad in the watch. You can follow him at Espo Espo. You can follow me believing in this team as always at Rik Ruby. Put your leg away. We’ll be off tomorrow back on Friday. We’ll see you for our pregame show. Love y’all. Ah, we all sitting like the mayor.

The Phoenix Suns had a lot of viewers doubting when they went into half down quite a bit to the Sacramento Kings, but they proved it was far from over. Phoenix stormed back in the 2nd half to take down Sacramento 120-116 behind Devin Booker’s 30, Dillon Brooks’ antics and a ton of blue-collar efforts.

They beat a team that is going to lose over 50 games this year. Hardly anything to hang your hat on lol. I was at the game and as far as Suns games go it was really fun. But this team is going to be under 500. They won't be in the post season. They might get in playin as a 10 seed and be one and done. Very low expectations might tolerate this team but at the end of the day they will still suck…
Sorry to pour cold water on a nice come from behind win. But it was just a home lottery team barely beating an away lottery team missing their best player, who also blew a big lead as bad teams tend to do.
I'm predicting a 28 win season with plenty of talk of Booker moving on during the trade deadline.
YES THE ANGRY SUNS ARE HERE NEW MUSIC YES!!!!! 😡
15:20 There's nothing polite about that crazy smile of Brooks. And it was DeRozan who killed us last year.
We have the perfect villain, a go-to-guy, and a stolen Center. This is gonna be a fun season.
OSO doesn't fit here
scrappy
hammer phnx doesn't believe in free speech
You really hit the nail on the head about heart play. How we got more heart out of this first game than 160 games the past two seasons. Perfect now I’m excited to watch this team. GO SUNS
The best comeback the sun's has in their franchise history was that 4th quarter comeback last year or 2 seasons ago against the kings.
This win doesn't tell you much.
Eric where did you get that sweater? Please try and respond, I want to buy it.
