Miller, Ehlers playing big role in Hurricanes’ fast start, Aho says | NHL.com

  1. Ehlers only has 1 apple on the season, but he’s been directly involved in setting up some big goals for us, including Jarvy’s 1st against the Devils. Without 27’s handling, possession, and pass behind NJ’s net, that puck would not have been ping ponged around the perimeter before being buried by Jarvy. Yeah, he got 4 PIM against Vegas. The slash was soft af though and the only real dumb penalty was the trip on our PP, which would be less of a factor if our PP was actually good.

I’m excited to see how he grows into the team, but I can seriously see Jarvy pulling a 50-goal season if Ehlers is feeding him.

As for Miller, I’ve been very impressed. Sure, he didn’t have a great game against Vegas either, but honestly he got unlucky on the own-goal and he only lost an edge on the 3rd goal after he took what was called as a slash against Ehlers. All that game really proved to me is that he’s not 1st line material yet and struggled with the pressure with both Ghost and Slavin out so early in the season.

We’ve got a good team cooking here and we’re in one of the toughest parts of our schedule. It’ll all come out in the wash, but so far I’m very pleased with what our summer acquisitions have done for us. Now we just need Rod to figure out what to do about Svech and KK, who I felt both looked best in their positions for our opener against NJ.

  2. Miller so far has been a better piece on the blue line than Brady, Dougie, or Brett offensively so far this year

  3. Ehlers is mostly just getting unlucky. He is getting and making good chances but things aren’t clicking yet. Svech on the other hand…
