NFL Week 8 Preview: Green Bay Packers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers | Chris Simms Unbuttoned | NFL on NBC

Uh, let’s get to it. Sunday Night Football, we will be there at Acer Stadium. It took me a few years to quit calling it Hinesfield. It’s Acer Stadium at the confluence of the Alagany, the Ohio, and the Manonga rivers. Can’t wait. I can’t wait. I’m so excited for this. It it it feels like I’m getting away with something because I only have to to travel 90 minutes to get there. It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be a great night. The weather looks like it’s going to be favorable. It’s going to be a little chilly, but it’s going to be favorable. The Packers are favored by three in Pittsburgh. The Packers currently the number one seed in the NFC. The Steelers are 4-2. They’re 1-1 at home. 45.5 is the overunder. I’ve picked Green Bay every week this season. We both have picked Pittsburgh to win every week this season. So, he’s got a gift for me. What are you gonna do? What are you going to do? Go ahead. You can lead it off with your favorite team. Well, it’s pasta and meatballs. And this is the team that even though it’s not my favorite team or my second favorite team and I suffered through Super Bowl 9 when the Steelers beat the Vikings 16-6, I I just feel like I have a finger on the pulse of the Pittsburgh Steelers. And I this just feels like a game they’re not going to lose. It just feels like it. And you know, usually when we pick these scores, it’s it’s never a scorami weird type score. It’s usually something within the buoys of what typically happens in a football game. But the number 26-22 just kind of came into my head last night. Steelers win 26-22. Aaron Rodgers, I I’m concerned that he will be a little too emotional. Now, the good news is the the Packers are wearing those winter warning uniforms, which are far more relevant in week eight than they are in week two when they wore them at home for a Thursday night game. But it’s not going to be a a fit that he’s ever seen before. Like when he’s looking across the field, he’s not going to see the yellow helmets. The yellow helmets are going to be on his head because they’re wearing those hideous. Oh wow. Hideous. Awful. The worst uniforms I’ve ever seen. They’re going to be wearing, but the Packers are going to have white helmets. And I think psychologically that’ll be a factor. But I I think he’ll get it together. I think the team’s going to play well. They’re going to take advantage of the extra days to get ready. And I I see the the Steelers pulling this one out 26-22. Man, I’ve gone back and forth with this game. There’s no question the Packers have more talent on the football team. There’s there’s no question the Packers are a more talented team, but the Packers have not played very good football lately. I mean, it it’s every week strugglesville. Yeah. Okay. They they controlled Cincinnati, we know, in Joe Flacco’s first game, but even the end of that game became a little too close for comfort. So, I I just I I don’t know what to think of the Packers. There’s potential. They frustrate me a lot like the Philadelphia Eagles do in a lot of ways where I just go they’re not playing to their total potential here and I I don’t know if I expect it to happen this week either. Now what scares me and because I’m kind of leaning like you. I’m think I’m going to pick the Steelers. I’m going to pick the Steelers but the Steelers defense certainly scares me against an offense that’s coming into town that’s just going to go I mean Green Bay they’re going to throw the ball down the field. They’re going to attack, but they might do it to such an extent where I don’t know if it always helps them right now. They have no intermediate short passing game in Green Bay. They got to remedy that a little bit. It can’t always be looked down the field for a huge play. I think that’s what’s leading them to a little inconsistency on the offense and then they haven’t been able to run the ball all that great. But this Steelers defense is not very good. But I do think it’s more personal for Rogers and the Steelers will feel that it’s more personal for Rogers and want to back him up rather than Green Bay. There’s a lot of guys that are like, I I wasn’t on the team with Rogers. I don’t really give a damn that we’re playing him. I know it’s a big deal. Whatever. Blah blah blah. I’m going to go the Steelers, too. 24-21. Mike. Yeah. It’s not like Brian Gutun is going to walk into the locker room and implore the Packers to go beat the Steelers to help him settle the score. Because Rogers said this week, I don’t have any animosity toward the organization. No, it’s towards specific individuals like Guda, who he reportedly wanted to have fired. So, it’s going to be easier for the Steelers to rally around Rogers than for the Packers to rally around anyone really. Yeah. I I just feel like this is a night where Aaron Rodgers doesn’t lose to Jordan Love. He doesn’t lose to the Green Bay Packers. Also, I suspect Mike Tomlin has been up the butts of his defensive players. They got to get a play last Thursday night, right? No, no question about it. No question. They they got to change what they do on the defensive side of the ball. Like you heard me say to you yesterday on PFT Live right now. Mike Tomman and Terrell Austin aren’t holding up their end of the bargain with Aaron Rogers coming into town. The offense is better. It’s it can be dangerous and they take care of the ball and they make plays. The defense has got to start showing up. Here’s the other thing, too. Uh after chasing around Jamar Chase last week, it’s going to feel like child’s play to cover the Packers receivers. Yo yo homies, it’s time to watch some games. 1. Too much certitude in statements made about how teams are playing when they have a good record – especially when the team is on top of the NFC. On any given Sunday, any NFL team can bring their A game. These are all professional athletes. To say the Packers are not playing as good as you would expect is riddled with bad logic. Aaron was 3-3, paying far worse than Love at this point in the season when he went on to win the SB in 2010.

  2. What is personal for Rodgers? The team worshipped him up until they traded him to where he wanted to go after having his future replacement ride to e bench for 3 seasons.
