[JFresh] Josh Doan’s absurdly good underlying numbers as a fourth liner at the time of the trade were nuts enough. But with a 65% xGoal share and 6 points in his first 7 games, is it possible they were for real?

I mean, other than being a smaller sample size why would people assume they were fake? Good pedigree, 2nd round pick, has the intangibles. I wouldn’t expect him to be the next coming of Gretzky but I’d be disappointed if he just settled into a 4th line grinder role
He scored a hat trick during his debut with the Coyotes, he’s got the talent
Doan is a dawg
They’re real and they’re spectacular.
If Doan, Quinn, and Benson continue playing well, we won’t have to rely on Tage and Tuch as much.
Playoffs baby! I said it before the season, after the first 3 games, and now!!!
Doan was a great pick up, he wins battles, plays smart, passes the eye test thats for sure.
Some are saying it
I was sceptical, but he looks good and have numbers behind eye test
Sens fan but this popped up on my main feed, I really didn’t understand this trade for Utah at the time. As nice as Peterka is, they’re a team fairly flush in young high end pieces already.
Forget that Doan was a legacy player for the organization and had a decent rookie season already, but he showed really nice chemistry with Cooley at the WC. Seems to just be scratching the surface of his potential as a great all around player, where Peterka will probably always be more one dimensional, even if that is a nice dimension to have.
Throw in Kesselring. who hasn’t even suited up for you yet, and it wouldn’t surprise me for you guys to come out of this on top, sooner rather than later.
Guess my own teams struggles, after some promise last year, have opened me up to just being a fan of the game more than anything. Glad to see you guys seeming to put it together, finally. Hoping for a revival of that mid-00s rivalry in the playoffs again, one day.
Doane trade
Doan, to me, won’t turn into a little baby like JJ seemed to be. I think Doan is just a quality human on top of being a good player. This trade will work out just fine. Two way player over a one dimensional minus player I’ll take every time.
This is exactly why you don’t judge a trade 2 mins after it happens. So many people said this was a terrible trade, you get a top 6 forward and a top 4 defenseman for Peterka..I don’t see why anyone thought this wasn’t fair value in return. They said doan was a throw in..
Good positioning and hands will result in points
Josh Doan is the kick of MF’r that Sabres fans have needed & craved in our lives for some time. While I know (and I’ve expressed this before) that Kesselring was the prime piece of the trade, Doan was the piece that was most needed.
Dude is a high intelligence, skilled player that has a great work ethic that infects the guys he plays with.
Clone Josh Doan and give me more!
Doan has 2 more points than peterka and comes without the crappy me me me attitude. After loking into doan and kesselring and knowing what we know now about peterka. That trade is nothing short of a win
We may have struck gold much like we did with Briere. I realize that Briere was a little more established at the time but I don’t think we knew he would become the incredible player that he did. Not to mention from the same organization.
Also, Doan is giving me Dave Andreychuck vibes. Tough SOB in front of the net who scores dirty goals. I think that’s what ruff saw in him too and what we have been missing for quite some time
