CONDENSED GAME: Boston Bruins vs. Anaheim Ducks – 10/23/2025
Live from TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Welcome to Boston Bruins hockey. I’m Nessen. Tonight, it’s hockey fights cancer night at TD Garden as the Bruins aim to end their fiveame slide against the new look Anaheim Ducks. Hello again everybody. Along with Andy Brickley, I’m Jud Surat. Thanks for joining us. This year in the National Hockey League, they’re playing a compressed schedule to accommodate from the February February Olympic break. And that means every team is playing segments of three games in 4 days or four games in 6 days. Rick, there was a player that joked uh in the Bruins room after practice, “We’ve played eight games to this point. I haven’t even seen a paycheck yet.” But there are going to be times where the schedule favors you. And the Bruins are in one of those segments where they play six of seven on home ice and it’s essential they cash in. Well, you might want to withhold that paycheck if you’re going to lose five games in a row if you want to talk about reality. But uh yeah, this is a situation tonight where it’s all about whatever it takes to win a hockey game. You know, the Bruins have scored enough goals to have a better record than three and five. Jud, the problems are where turning the puck over in team defense. They want to be harder to play against. They want to be a tough out. That’s all well and good, but you got to get it done at crunch time. One of the things you’ve mentioned a lot here in the month of October has been the phrase winnable games. If you look at the Bruins slide here, four of those five losses have been one goal affairs. Yeah, they started the year with three straight wins. You know, they had a couple 3-1 wins with empty nets. Essentially, that’s a one-goal game, but they’re one and four in onegoal games at the end of the night. And Michael Stur saying this morning that he was going to be a game time decision dayto day, but they wanted to make sure what was best shortterm and longterm for him. Saka shoots the rebound. They score. Casey Middlestad following up over at the near post. Jams it home. Bruins one ducks nothing. [Music] Well, we talked about the fact that Middlestad had two primary assist and the loss of the Florida Panthers. You hope that was a feelood for him. These three guys want to play together. They just need to get some results and they’re going to get it right here. Love the fact that it was started by Michael Caler and defenseman just called up because of the injuries on the back end. He makes a simple heads up play tape to tape. When that first pass is tape to tape, you get into the rhythm of your offense and the Bruins connect on three or two passes certainly will make it three. And then the rebound by Middlestat able to slide it into the empty net. Well executed play from the defensive zone through the neutral zone into the offensive end. Ripped up top for Lauri. Shoots. It did not get through. Morazzic had some contact going through the blue paint. Vel tags up. shoots Verazzic a glove save and this one he holds on to which you know locked up out in front with Lome and everybody at close quarters. Yeah, that contact with Morazzic if you looked at the referee you know he was telling Helison you’re the one that fought him in you know I’m not calling that penalty because you were the one that initiated it and then the Bruins with a good steal in the offensive zone it’s nice to have options looking around. Do I have a better opportunity? Can I make a pass? Does somebody have forced the goalender to have to move? Those aren’t available. Rip it at the goal. That time was able to smother it, not leave a rebound. Peak his shot blocked. Now you got to defend quick. Here’s Carlson. Drops sent into the slot. Karm shoots. Corposal. A clean save. Sent out in front. And that floater off the stick of Goce. Gloved by Corposal. and he’ll hold it and we’ll take a timeout. Well, after Peak made a pretty good play in the offensive zone to keep it in. Anaheim was able to knock that puck down. That led to the threeon two. Cologne the beneficiary of a nice play. He’s inside the hash marks. That’s prime scoring area. And what a stop by Corposal. What’s the read there? Well, I loved his read. He held his ground. He didn’t back in. Stayed up in the white paint top of his crease. The concerning part there is the turnover after the big save to almost have to make another huge save. That’s the one where as the Bruins continue play, they got to clean that one up. It’s okay to make one mistake, two in a shift is trouble. We played eight minutes. Casey Middlest with a game’s only goal. So since he was a healthy scratch in Utah on Sunday at the end of the Bruins road trip, two assists against Florida and the opening goal here. Puck sent out in front. They score. That centering feed out in front by Hellison. Looked like it glanced off maybe a Bruins skate and this game is even at one. You know, we saw a pick play on the road that led to a goal against the Boston Bruins. And you’re going to see another one here. Mark Castle felt like he got picked out high. They’re in man-on-man coverage. Now, how do you react? Where’s the breakdown? Where’s the read? Where’s the switch? Who’s the most dangerous? This is the right defenseman out high. There’s the moving pick right there. And then it’s a play to the front of the net. Probably went in off Mackoy. Let’s see if the overhead will tell us. Yeah, that’ll be Hellison’s goal. But it’s the pick out high that allows the play to happen. Kangelo centered and Groundland’s offering denied by Corposello at the post. Lenol back to get it. Thought about going behind the net. Got cut off. was having a hard time breaking out and now they lose the puck. Here’s Troy Terry. Mikov shoots. Corposal lungs and snatched it with the glove. Anaheim winning the pace game right now, especially in the offensive zone. Boston working hard. They’re making body contact, but they can’t make a play with the puck. And Anaheim keeps the pressure on because of their quickness, their ability to protect the puck, find the open man. Panak got lost in a man-on-man coverage situation out high. He had an opportunity to pause the knock back in the offensive zone. A nice shot, a purposeful shot by Peak. Now Zora fires Morazzic the save. And this one he takes in as Vel causing some havoc out in front and the sticks get up. Pel had a bout against Jonah Gad Gajivic here on Tuesday and now everybody’s starting to separate. Yeah. And this all starts in the neutral zone. Zidora makes a nice pass up as you know on the off wing and they play that depth of the offensive zone wrap game. Get it in deep. This is where it starts. And even though you don’t get anything off the rush here, now you lay a puck in an area and Vial goes in and makes contact to allow the puck to go around. Now you have possession and it looked like Jano may have got a piece of that drive from Zidorov. Maybe we can get a look at it from behind Morazzi, but Morazzi has to squeeze it between the body and the arm. Back handed ahead and steered out to the neutral zone by Yoki Haru. It’s Kiki and he’ll pound it in. Most pulls it free. Centered across it goes. Makamoy almost stumbled, lost his balance. Lol shoots. Lauri centered. Kiki couldn’t finish the rebound rattled wide by Mackoy. And the Ducks exit. Got a little room. Rister just wide. Rhorn trying to jam it out in front. Near side steel by Geeki. Kangelo gets it back and the Bruins tag up. Bring it back in. Geeky wrist. He scores. That stick starting to heat up. Kiki with a snipe. Bruins two, Ducks one. You know, you work on things in practice and after the first couple of games, he was working on his shot, you know, in order to get his sights back to where they were last year, particularly in the second half, talking about. And then more recently, he was working on receiving a pass and not fumbling it, not mishandling it, not fighting it. And this is a perfect example where it pays off. But you got to love the Bruins. They shorten up the ice in the neutral zone and then they quickly regain the offensive zone with a quick counter. They rifle it in cuts it off. The shots double in favor of the Bruins. 28-4, but it’s only a onegoal game. Mitten slams it to Vel. Across. Mitten shoots. What a stop by Morazzic. A desperation save going to his right. Well, it was a bullet pass, but Mitten handled it, but he had a pivot. Jano. Oh, just behind Mitten. Mitten gets it back. Yoki Haru shot doesn’t get through as Denko feathered ahead. Lome and the pass. A good one to go, but he couldn’t receive it or pardon me. Carlson. Now Lome go shoots. He scores. Goce in the slot able to find a hole under Corposal. Bruins two ducks too. Yeah, this is a negative sequence for Boston. And after the mitten chance, a chance to go up 3-1 and really have a good hold on this game. And then shortly thereafter, the pressure by Anaheim. It’s a good response. There’s that opportunity right here for Mitten. Did a lot of the right things. Handled the hard pass, elevated the puck, but not high enough. And again, we talked about it in the beginning of the game, Jud. You know, are the Bruins getting better in their team defense, particularly in their own zone with a fiveman rotation? It’s tough to play in this league. Ducks get it back. They transition back in. Senica cut off and Corposal is going to freeze this puck. In the big picture, if you look at the Bruins heading into today’s action, the Bruins tied for 15th in the league in offense. But Brick in the bottom third of the league defensively and one of the things whether it’s Marco Sturm or the general manager Don Sweeney, they have both talked about the fact if the Bruins are going to compete for a playoff spot, they have to be able to defend that. A part of their identity has to come back online. And I referenced the first game of the year down in Washington. You know, you got a tremendous performance from your star forward and David Pos and uh Swayman was outstanding in goal, but Oh, here we go. Here we go. It’s going to be Ross Johnston. Tanner Jano saw this one coming. Janoa a couple of right hands. Johnston a right. Jano has him at close quarters. Johnston a right. Johnston another right. Janoa right. Janoa another right. Johnston a jersey jab. Genanoa right. Genanoa right. Johnston’s lost his helmet. Janoa left. Johnson a body shot. Janoa right. Genanoa another right. Johnston a right. He’s got the jersey coming up over his head. Genanoa right hand. Genanoa right Janoa. Another right. Genanoa right to the body. Johnson trying to get his hands free. Jano right cross. Jano right to the body. They’re still going. And now the linesman will step in. [Applause] What a bout for Tanner Jano’s first as a Boston Bruin. [Music] So, but in the warm-up, Tanner Jano and Ross Johnson were having a long conversation and you had to imagine this was a part of it. Yeah. And then in the first period, we had a little body contact between the two where Johnson was the aggressor, you know, and made solid body contact with, you know, and we said, stay tuned. Here’s the net result. Great bout. Great bout by Jano. You know, it was a pretty good time for it, too, because the Bruins took that 2-1 lead and then they give it up in quick order. You had the building going. You had the mitten chance. You felt like the Bruins were going to take control of the hockey game. It goes the other way. Not a bad time to get this crowd excited again. Got a little area in the bumper. The back of the net. Crownley in a battle with Callahan. Grabbed by Netoeno. Turns, shoots, blocked. And this shot. They score. Just a little daylight for Jacob Trouba. And it looked like he snuck it under the glove of Yonis Corposal. And the Ducks with their first lead of the night. It’s 3-2. The Ducks are wise. to put pucks in areas where they know the Bruins are having a hesitation in their defensive coverage and that allows them time and space to make more plays. You know, the Bruins have bodies back. They’re trying to sort it out. See, this is like no man’s land for the Bruins defensively and allows Trouba to get into a spot. He handles it with his skate. He gets into a shooting position and before Corposalo can close that short side, it’s in the back of the net. But Anaheim, their conversation on the bench is keep the puck in the offensive zone. Force Boston to defend. They’re a little in between right now. We can take advantage. Now Lynholm wanted to leave it for posture. Neither guy gets to it. We’ve got a penalty here on Anaheim. Yeah, Lynholm got hit with a high stick. They’re going to go over take a peek at him. Think it’s only going to be two, but you never know. And he’s going two minutes sticking. Load had the puck coming across the blue line. Able to get possession as he moves laterally. The stick’s going to come up and catch him in the face. See if we get a look at it. Little poke check. Now the puck’s up for grabs. That’s dangerous. The the pointed end of the blade of the stick can be nasty in terms of cutting your face when it gets under that visor. Bruins start with possession. Lurai dust it off to Arbertson. Second unit starting because the first unit was on the ice when the penalty was issued. Lai shoots. He scores. Mason Laurai looked to the heavens after he slammed that one by Morazzic. A power play goal. His first of the season. Bruins three. Ducks three. What a release. I don’t think Morazzic thought that Lurai was going to shoot this puck. I thought he think was going to go across the ice to the elbow. The high sticking penalty. The Ducks defenseman is going to cost them. The Bruins going to tie this game. Look at that release. Thoughtim maybe Asim had a maybe a chance to get a piece of it. Yoki Haru goes all the way down in order to keep this play alive when the Bruins try to make a play to the slot. That’s a heads up play. Quickly transitions it. Move the puck quick. Have a shot mentality. It doesn’t have to be a bomb to score a goal in this league. It’s accurate. It’s quick. It’s through a little bit of traffic. The puck had eyes and the Bruins tie it with a power play goal. Ellison leans for Matron walking the line. Long shot that’s blocked. 4 seconds left. Lome blocked by Mitten. Lome shoted wide and the horn is going to sound. So each team with two goals in that second period. And guess what, Brick? Much like we talked about in the open, another close hockey game tied at three at the end of 40 minutes. Yeah, you’re hoping this is one of those games where they’re starting to inch towards learning how to win these kinds of games. The power play goal, the importance of the power play when you’re not a high offensive octane team. Even though the Bruins are in the middle of the pack when it comes to goals, four. So, a huge third period. Got to clean up your own end in order to win this hockey game. Set out in front. Corposel got a piece of that drive by Carlson. Sent out in front. Rattled to the near side. Terry around a check. Around another set right to the net. They score. Troy Terry with a couple of dangles. Grlin fires a power play goal into an empty net. 4-3 Ducks. Impressive puck handling. Sold the shot not once but twice. And I thought he was trying to go to the slot, but because they’re linear, if you don’t hit Vanrano in the slot, you still got to have another teammate in the scoring position. There’s Terry pump fake around Castle. Pulls it around M. I thought he was going in that slot area, but it makes its way all the way across. Yeah, I think that was intended for Vanron. But there’s Granland buried into the empty net. But you go back to where Carali had possession instead of going up the wall on his back and he turned back around the net. He thought it was the better play and then he hits his teammate Zidorov and keeps Anaheim in the offensive zone. Try to chisel it to Makaoy. It didn’t get there. Now Terry, we got a penalty behind the play on the Bruins and Makavoy took a hit from Neestor and Castle takes exception. Makavoy as well. Everybody in close quarters and we’ll see if only one team winds up short-handed out of this. Well, the penalty happens right around the center ice red line on Makavoy after the play went to the middle of the neutral zone. And you got to believe that Netoro knew that there was a delayed penalty and as soon as Makavoy played the puck, he had a green light hit. And that’s why you got the reaction from Boston. Boston’s 73. Two minutes interference. [Applause] There’s the body contact by Makavoy. The referee felt that it was a little too late. The puck was long gone, he felt. And there’s Neestor Ranko trying to take a a liberty knowing that the whistle was going to blow. Well, Charlie Mackoy talked about penalties. The Bruins haven’t taken a lot here tonight, but overall the Bruins early in the season coming into today’s game leading the league in minors. And Makavoy said, “It’s killing us.” said, “I don’t think anybody’s trying to take penalties.” And he actually pointed to himself. He said, “I’ve actually been one of the issues taking minor penalties.” Lynholm still in the zone. Anaheim will start to make some changes. Grabbed by Palin out in front. They score. A one-time blast by the Stone Native Sam Kangelo. He bangs one in and Anaheim now on top five to three here in Boston. Well, the Bruins go into their one two in the neutral zone, Jud. And it’s a one long pass up to the offensive blue line that beats them. The back pressure isn’t there enough to allow Anaheim to have numbers. That shouldn’t happen. The back pressure has got to be there from the neutral zone back to the net. Here’s the formation. Pass to the wide side and they’re just late on the back check and the beneficiary. Puck plops up in the air. I mean, you got to be back there. You got to eliminate that possibility. [Music] And this one’s going to be critical. Down two with five and a half minutes left. Runs are going to start with possession. Mackoy post shoots. He scores. That’s 396 for David Postnock. A power play goal. Bruins trail the Ducks five to four. This is the way you draw it up. Jud talked about the power play before the game in the pregame show. You got to start with faceoff wins. Well, they’ve been doing that all year long with Lynholm in the circle. And you got to have a shot mentality right off the bat. And if they’re going to try to take away the elbows in the one-timer, whether it’s Kiki or fast or not, rotate out high, have double barrel action towards the front of the net, the low man and the bumper, it causes problems. You got screens, you got moving screens, you got deflections, you got tips, you got rebounds, and sometimes a puck just has eyes when you’re a shooter like pasta knock and a goal scorer. And the Bruins very quickly with the man advantage cut this to 54. Boston wings it across and the Ducks glove it. Boston stepped up for the hit on Senica who swerved away up top. He scored tonight for the Ducks that tied the game at one in the first period. powers in center took that pass from Nikita Sedora wires it by Morazzic Bruins five ducks five well Geeki’s got the classic Geeky finish but Zedora makes the entire play from his own zone he’s such a powerful man a powerful skater there. Chip pass up the wall to himself. Cuts to the middle. See you later everybody. And what a nice little backhand feed. And Geek is ready. He pivots. He gets into a shooting position. No chance for Morazzi. Zadorov with an incredible rush to set up that twoon-one. They dig away along the near wall held in by Anaheim. That took a funny hop. Masterenko shot it out in front. They score all alone. Troy Terry lifts it over Corposello. The Ducks cash in on a good bounce and it’s 65 Anaheim. [Applause] [Music] Well, this is what we’re talking about. Soon as you get to 55, wrap it down and goes off the stansion. And now you got two Bruins, both defenseman. Now the bounce had something to do with it. You don’t track the puck. Now you got Lurai and Macka Boy looking at the player with the puck. And now Troy Terry’s wide open the top of the crease. They find him and he buries it like a good goal scorer right up under the crossbar. Six on five. Goalie pull for the extra attacker. Bruins win it. Makavoy posture knock. Shoots. Deflected back of the net. Recovered by the Bruins. Set up top. Nice play to keep it in by Saka. The Ducks intercept. Here’s Gronland around a check. We’re going to have a penalty in the Bruins. He scores. Grlin with the empty netter. He’s got two goals, two assists here tonight. And the Ducks now lead at seven to five. Oh, the Bruins win the draw as we take a look at the tail end of the play. Little pump fake there by Growlin. It’s a veteran move, veteran play. Then you just chip it up the wall once you make that little fake as if you were going for the empty net. And now he’s got a decent angle and plenty of time to finish. But the Bruins won the draw in the offensive zone. They would set up Pos for the one timer. He didn’t think he had the lane. So he had the pump fake and then he went with a wrist. Then they had possession and then he tried to use the middle of the ice or you know or somewhere around the dot top of the circle to find Zaka. Had his stick knocked out of his hands. You lose possession and now the puck’s in the neutral zone as it’s grabbed by Zelwiger. So, the Boston Bruins are going to drop their sixth consecutive game. Anaheim able to separate late in the third period and they come up victorious 7 to five over the Bruins here tonight. Peter Morazzic picking up the win. He was busy. He stopped 37 of 42. And what a wild third period brick. A 3-3 game. Bruins down 53. a character come back to make it 55 and then some game management issues and they lose it seven to five. Yeah, the character only carries you so far. You got to win some hockey games. This is a league of wins and losses and amassing points and you’ve gone six straight without accomplishing either. And it’s the same issues game in and game out that need to be fixed.
Highlights from the Boston Bruins 7-5 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on October 23, 2025.

Fire Sturm and trade both goalies – this is getting completely ridiculous: goalie letting in 6 goals per game, scoring 5 isn't enough?!
Not for nothing but they’ve created more offense than anybody would’ve thought, now if they could take it down by one goal a game defensively they might be OK
And since they have about five guys that can fight decently, they should have two fights a game 164 for the year ……… now that’s some old school entertainment !!!😎😉😄
This team stinks
Remember those happy 82-0 jokes a couple of weeks ago? Now 3-79 is looking like a real possibility. This is the same bad team as last year. The goalies aren't the problem. It's the defense. They're all over the place. They can't kill penalties. They're a mess. They don't have the talent to compete in the NHL right now, bottom line.
