Coach Mike McDaniel meets with the media after #MIAvsCLE | Miami Dolphins

What can you say about this game? Yeah. No, I think he did everything to lose the game. I think um you saw a lot of frustrated players um uh you know from the season allow it to seep into um our play and uh keep us from executing. So there’s I mean the the list goes on. you uh uh four uh minus four or um 100 yards and 11 penalties. Um two formulas that that generally will equal immediate um loss regardless of what you do. So um you know I think uh games a game like this um you know I think we didn’t see coming um in terms of our prep. Uh but you absolutely with 100% certainty have to evaluate everything. Um you know I think it goes for um you know no person or no player or no coach is um got their hands clean uh and and we have to go back to work and um starting with me uh do a better job. We have a um NFL uh opponent and game next week that um we have a lot of work to do in in in this meantime. This was a step back for how we play football. I thought we had had growth um uh and generally growth without results um is a good thing for your team. In this case um it was not not good enough. And um uh yeah, you can go on any tangent um and be uh half at least partially right um regardless of what angle you take when you get beat like that. paid off. How do you get it to pay off as soon as next week? Yeah. No, three three losses in this league in a row um are always take its toll. Uh you uh you honestly get to see um across the board uh you know the the people that you’re working with and we’re um professionals that need need to uh uh do our jobs better. So you you don’t um hold anything back. You’re very clear in front of the in the team. The tape never lies. Um we’ll have probably uh 20 plays that um are self-inflicted wounds and you can’t get even get on to uh uh beating the opponent if you beat yourself. So um that’s uh uh that’s where it is. And um we have a um a long work week ahead of us that we need to make very impactful. Um and I think the locker room knows that. You said frustrated players that as the game goes on or I I I just I felt I mean guys have been frustrated with the season um and uh believe um in each other a lot more than our record um indicates. So, uh, I, you know, I just felt like, uh, emotional overreactions early in the first half, um, while being very competitive, but, you know, I the the four I think there was four drives sustained by penalties defensively. Um, and I could feel uh, that building up. And then um you come out the gate uh the second half and you have a um a fumble on special teams and then a oneplay pick six. Um yeah, the the guys were frustrated um throughout the game. Um and and I thought it didn’t help us. It made us worse. There was uh late late hits um on two occasions, personal fouls. that isn’t um you know we haven’t majored in that. So, we found a different way um uh to to kind of undo our game and um there’s a lot of guys that will have an important work week um because uh we’re not I mean if if you uh are negatively affecting the football team uh routinely um I don’t have a choice but to um you know assess a different player and um and I have to coach um a lot better as well. So, we need uh we’re going to find out um who and what we’re made of. What will your conversation be with after this game? Um yeah, uh it’ll be uh tape driven. Um so I’ll take a look at the tape. Um but you know the before watching the tape I don’t I don’t want to overconclude anything. I think um you know but like you you you turn the ball over um as number one indicator of wins and losses and it it negatively affects the team. I think there’s um multiple um factors in in those um turnovers. Um but I know at least um you know one to two of them were extremely preventable um from Tua and he he knows that he was uh he was it just wasn’t good enough. So, we’ll we’ll watch the tape and and um and ch uh change our style of play if we have to. We’ll do everything’s on the table. Um when you go to a game, you fully know that you have the capability um to win and get uh handed a very very humbling um uh loss that there’s there’s no ifands or buts about it. Um guys need to be professionals. you guys need to step up to the plate and every person um you know on our team if you’re saying it’s not me it’s you you know that’s the that’s what I told the team um that’s what um I have to subscribe to uh and uh we uh we will be diligent in our um both our cleanup of this game uh and the uh the opponent um for next week because just you’re just not going to win games and our team, you know, we we we say we want to win games, so we have to do the things necessary to win games. Um, until that happens, we will lose games. such a lack of penalties, turnover. Yeah, I mean I uh I think you know a lot of the frustration um uh made uh got in the way of our execution and that’s never going to be acceptable. Um, I did I did think that uh uh specifically in the second half that um the the defense did not quit in a situation that I’ve um you know was uh pretty difficult considering um you know receiving the ball uh after halftime uh and then they’re on the negative side of the field and then um you know uh all of a sudden have a give up seven more points that they didn’t give up. You know, I think there’s um the the effort the effort was there, the execution and the uh the uh uh the discipline really to to play sound football and not um take it an extra step and still try to uh hit somebody or or um be out of position with your feet and hold that. All these things amount to um losing football games and uh that lesson is a tough one but it will forever stand in the National Football League um that you doing things like that is not good enough and will not be good enough. I so the way I look at um this job is I I I I find it very offensive um to all parties involved if I’m thinking about having the job. I need to be doing my job. So for as long as um I coach for the Miami Dolphins in this organization, they’ll get everything from me. Um, and I refuse to to spend my my time thinking about something that you’re you’re you have a job, you do your job. Um, and you do it to the best of your ability. And that’s where my concern lies. Um, I don’t uh I think it’s offensive to all coaches, players, and the organization if I’m spending that precious time thinking about myself. players are frustrated. Well, you know, I got to um do a better job of uh uh of saying that clearly because it, you know, in game um we we have to find our composure. But realistically, uh you know, you do hard truth in this league. um you are always um held accountable for your ultimate performance and you coach through tape. So, um I have uh had nor will have no problem um you know telling the truth of the of the tape and and you have to um either you you you accept it and um and rise to the challenge and correct those things or you’re subject to um the the same exact types of failures um that I know that the the guys are tired of um you know they they wanted they wanted win okay they did and they didn’t do it um uh and it’s all of us so I don’t think anybody’s spared um from from the from accountability I think we all need to look at the mirror or in the mirror and um uh uh the the main thing is teams that go through hardships you double down on those hardships if you uh don’t stick together. So, um we we have to do better collectively. Um and you I I’m looking for guys to um uh lean into the team and not try to displace um you know uh not try to feel feel like uh okay, I I did all right, it wasn’t my fault. No, that’s not how it works. Um we we all have to stay together and we all have to be focused um if we wanted to improve. Final two questions. Well, I think um the the National Football League is an ever evolving process. Um each each team is um uh going through uh all sorts of lessons, good or bad. Um I I think they have talented players. Um and I wish I could offer up a a better view on exactly um who they are. Uh I don’t really have that view because it’s uh you know kind of tarnished with um all of our I don’t even know how we match up because uh uh we’re penal penalizing ourselves uh through the process and uh you know in the in the second half um there’s uh with a three-score lead um you know everything’s kind of adjusted anyway. So, um, you know, good team that, uh, did what they had to do to, um, beat us today, which was, um, not turn the ball over and execute, um, on the line of scrimmage, and they did a great job. Um, and, uh, so my hats off to them, but I’m more focused on, uh, all the things that we need to clean up. Final question. What went into that? And then what? So, uh, uh, during the, you know, um, during the work week, uh, you know, you’re you’re offsetting, um, some of the plays that he’s making. It was much more about him and and what he was doing on the football field. And then realistically, it was an assessment for this game. I thought if if he if he if a quarterback went in this particular defense um in in all all the variables compiled, I thought he gave us the best chance um to win. So did uh did what people are counting on me to do. Um and uh what does that mean moving forward? Um I I didn’t make the move with that in mind. Um, I I talked to Zach um and Quinn that I thought it was this game uh uh specifically that um based on his practice week um and really uh the opponent and we’ll uh we’ll uh hit that hard in terms of the evaluation of his plays um uh you know momentarily after I get out of this um uh after I get on the plane. All right. Push it.

  1. From a Non dolphins fans perspective, Mike McDaniel is a very very good play caller, lets just be real here. He literally got a carrier year out of Tua and in his offense Tyreek hill had over 1,700 receiving yards, yet we forget that happened. This team has a lot more issues than the coach. Don’t be surprised when he gets fired and joins another team that is more competent for him to be seen as one of the elite offensive minds again

  2. How funny people change like Tua isnt the problem it just sucks he has to take the brunt of it before he arrived we were getting ready to trade him coach comes in and saves Tua career there is no way we should let him go but i get it thats how the business works Tua aint it

  3. Serious question, how is anybody the fan of this team who didn’t grow up watching Marino play? Most of us Dolphins fans grew up watching Marino and that’s why we’re still fans today, but the whole younger generation has never seen Miami be a winning organization.

  4. not even trying to be disrespectful but i think people will look back on this dude being a head coach in the NFL as one of the most insane things in the history of the sport lol. for mostly superficial reasons but it is what it is

  5. I don't think bad of McDaniels. I just think he'd be better off as an offensive coordinator. He lacks leadership and the same applies at the quarterback position..

  6. Tut mir leid. Seid Wochen die selben Ausreden. Was machen die Trainer eigentlich? Es wurden keine Fehler abgestellt und Tua wirft wie ein Anfänger. Sein Bruder sah hier in Bremen als SeaDevil besser aus als er. Bei den Gehältern ist das Arbeitsverweigerung

  7. It’s actually a testament this guy speaks the way he does and is a coach lol. I’m going to be honest I feel I speak similarly and repeats myself at times and I know I don’t think I can coach a team and if I would I would try to have better pronunciation and charisma than that Lmao.
