NHL Highlights | Canadiens vs. Oilers – October 23, 2025

last game. That was a 3-2 decision over Ottawa on Tuesday. The Canadians on the second of a backto-back and we’re underway with Montreal having beaten Calgary in overtime. Hulking frame. He and Nurse come together. Jake Evans sets up a man shot off the outside of the post. That was a good chance for Gary protecting that far post. Montto under duress early as he stopped Trent Frederick. Now you’ve got McDavid got right around his back car to the net and a save Monts McDavid. He’s missed 188 and it’s frustrating. You know, we’ve talked to him in years past and it’s frustrating for him. He wants to dig in. Wants to have a full season. Hudson the shot. Ricochet score. Alex New Hook on the rebound and Montreal takes a one- nothing lead as again Hudson’s able to funnel one through and New Hook pounds it home for his second of the year. They had the lion share in the offensive zone. This is just off a chip in charge getting into the zone and it’s the second man attack comes up with the puck. Good scramble here. That puck is up for grabs two different times and it’s just followed the bouncing pucks, but the sticks have been a little bit quicker for Montreal. And credit New Hook, he’s the one that initially separates man from puck. Eventually, that little shimmy shake there by Hudson. Gets that shot through and it’s New Hook on the doorstep. Look at this off the pad. Jamming home for New Hook. Got caught between shot and pass and it rolled off a stick. I think he wanted to pass it. I think he was just waiting for an opportunity. He played well in the twoon-one and just rolled off of his stick. Walman to Philp wind it around. Picked up by Vasili Poulson. Cross sever redirects it home. It’s Philp in front. But I think this goal is going to belong to David Tamachi. Barry his first in the National Hockey League. And again, he gets this puck and he’s thinking shot. And it does go off the skate of New Hook in front. It looks like right off the toe, finds the back of the net, but that’s why you shoot. Puck was up on edge. Get it to the net. He knows he has Emerson back door, but he gets a bounce. English-speaking captain to do a French interview on TV since Bob Gayy 1981 1989. He was the captain of the Canadians. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Oh, I tell you what, I took five years of French, Louie, and it just did not take. My dad still does it with that duo lingo. He’s been doing it for 5 years consecutively. His hasn’t gotten any better either. Don’t tell him I said that. I won’t. Here’s nurse. I think he’s listening though. Driving in left hand side, Cole Coughfield to the knee. Denied. Calvin Becker for Ottawa including Walman on the power play. Four on three in OT. Here’s Nanopkins. McDavid in tight drives a shot. A tough save made by Sam Mont. I agree. Howard to Eol across Wman. Shot redirects it in. Adam Henry with a high slot deflection for a 2-1 Edmonton lead. Right on Q Lou. It’s off the cycle. We’ve talked about this at length. Go to work. Come up with pucks. Keep the pressure on. And this is just a perfectly tipped puck by Adam Henry. Wman unable to snake his way between two defenders. Nurse off to Conor McDavid. Tried to d back door. And it was there for Nurse. And then a quick shot goal. Andrew Mapane with his third of the year. And the Oilers extend to a 3-1 lead. retreat and find your check. Little spin move here by Majapani. This doesn’t go right through, but good support by Mapani on Walden. Now it’s Darnell Nurse’s time. Get to the back of the net. He just can’t finish this pass, but a beauty little backhand pass through the feet right out to Mapani who then drives himself to the net. This is excellent movement around the offensive zone. We said they have to start spending more time. Kulak up to Mapani. Scored moments ago to make it 3-1. Anderson hustles it in looking for Gallagher. Lunged at it, but Kulak beat him to the spot. Gallagher’s finally been healthy the last couple years. In front and Anderson scores and Montreal’s right back in the game. That’s created by Gallagher’s ferocity on the for check. Josh Anderson pours it in the forwards. And you’re going to see Darnell Nurse come back for this puck. It looks like he’s okay. A little poke check right there by Koulak. Gets it to him. But a good stick by Gallagher. Turns this puck over and a little shovel. Sorry, it was not Gallagher. It was Evans. 71, not 11. It goes off the skate stick of Gallagher right to Anderson and he buries it top shelf up over top of the glove. But it’s the forche. It’s the aggression. It’s the support. Picker the save off the rush. Evans stripped from behind by Seabo but followed up by Caulfield. And here’s Dobson looking for Cawfield in time. Scores tie game. They gained some life on that goal by Anderson. They have been buzzing again in this second period. Edmonton pushed them back with some great shifts in zone, but it’s the puck retrievals. It’s the 50/50 pucks and then spreading you out a little bit. This is a dandy move by Cole Cfield. I mean known to be a shooter but he stick handles in a phone booth here. What a pass right here to find it. Tape to tape cross seam right onto Cfield stick and then one move second move walks around. Here’s a drop pass and a nifty one by Roselin. He comes in and his shot deflected up over top by his one time teammate in Nashville. Carrie Montreal’s away. Cfield and Suzuki. Cfield shoots scores. Canadians regain the lead. Unbelievable. This is end to end hockey track. We said early on Edmonton doesn’t necessarily want to get into this type of a game with the Montreal Canadians. They’re good at it. Simple as that. And Cole Cfield delays, delays, delays, and then lets go. This wicked release far side. He finds it just in Seattle. Kraken a three nothing shut out win over Winnipeg tonight. Joey Decor a clean sheet 32 saves. Evson starts the third with a power play. Looking to tie this game after coughing up a 3-1 lead. Leighton. New hook. Wristed down deep by Neon. Picked up by Kappet. Knocked off his stick. New hook to Strugan in front. One-time score. New Hook’s second of the game and the Canadians go up two. It’s 53 Montreal. Nice little play back down deep. Keep it on the perimeter. Kappan is the one actually that comes up with that puck. I thought Pemid Do made a little tip on it, but beautiful backhand pass by him as he threads this one through and New Hook. The movement once again on the cycle. So hard to pick up but he doesn’t get picked up into the slot. I mean that’s right between the hash marks. Here’s dry subtle one-time booard belted wide. Can a perfect eight for eight in Alberta on the PK thus far. Nan Hopkins David in front score dry cuts it to 54 power play goal. Edmonton right back in the game. You score, it’s when you score them. Critical time in the game and they go to work. Did not give up possession to this puck since the face off and eventually it’s McDavid takes this puck around the net. That’s a beautiful little pass inside the skate outside the post. Threads it through right through to Dryidle who funnels himself back into the mix. Another power play coming. Another power play coming. Brendan Gallagher. Unsportsmanlike conduct as I call. I’ll take back what I said. I think I was right though. It wasn’t a B. Yeah, I I figured it had to be something else. Here’s McD here. Score. Tie game. Den Hopkins the equalizer. It’s 55. And again, just a confidence starting to grow. And this is what happens when you give a team like Evans power plays. They’re going to eventually start to capitalize. And that’s exactly back to nurse shot dropped at the feet of Montto to Bow and flick just wide by Poulson. Now Savo but Coulson Savo Goldman in front back score 65 Edmonton for Pon C’s first of the season. Great work by Seavoy. puck possession, making plays in tight spaces, moving around. We’ve seen so much from both teams of this in this game. And what a power move by Pod Coulson. I mean, he’s right up against Mat here on the edge of the blue paint. Wman keeps this alive. Quick passing. Bam upstairs over top of the glove. That’s got to feel good for Pat Coulson. Talk about shelfing it. Strong on the puck. Box out. Burying it. The net is empty. The game dishes. The game is over. And it’s won it six to five.

Connor McDavid dished out three assists, Vasily Podkolzin buried the go-ahead goal with just over a minute remaining, and the Edmonton Oilers completed the comeback to the tune of a 6-5 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

  1. a pure steal by the refferies. Montreal completely outplayed Edmonton , completely. Its a pure steal and i'm sure the Oilers fans knows that. All the Montreal players call the bad referees after the game. wow, sincerely its a complete steal.

  2. the oilers are IRRELEVANT unless the panthers make them win🤣🤣🤣 this game not really important for montreal .. the BOILERS playing probably a 1st or second lost elimination with two end of career goaltenders 🤣

  3. Oilers have been terrible these days including tonight.
I don’t know how they managed to win this game.
But I witnessed a glimpse of last year’s playoff play in the third period.
    Too many silly turnovers.
    Glad to beat Canadiens.

  4. I did not watch the game so i can't speak but the games i did see imho Dobes seems better then Monty that being said habs have to put this game behind them and focus on the next one they have the team to win now they have to put the effort. No freebies

  5. Full disclosure.. I'm no expert, just an avid fan in Australia….my question:
Is there something wrong with #97, such as playing with an injury or personal problems? I'm seeing such lethargic play with the occasional burst.

  6. Worst reffed game I have ever seen. I am in utter disbelief how biased the refs were. They should be banned from reffing permanently. Montreal deserved that win 🙁

  8. Really liked that game from the Habs, tough result but gotta just forget about those type of games. Reffing was weak both ways

  9. Being an nhl ref must be the most secure job. How bad does a ref has to be to actually suffer consequences from the nhl? The only job in history to have a 0% firing rate. 😂

  10. It doesn't get any more obvious than what this game proved beyond a reasonable doubt: Jakub Dobes is the best goalie in Montreal. Montembault reacts… late, whereas Dobes reads & anticipates the play!
