Tony Vitello Linked to San Francisco Giants Manager Position | Tennessee Vols Baseball
What’s going on on this Monday, Frank? House of Orange TV coming at you. Uh, some potential interesting I I wouldn’t say news. There’s some potential interesting rumors out there regarding Tony Bartell, the San Francisco Giants. Something you do not hear a lot, college coaches making the transition uh from college to the majors. But there’s an article out here with the guy who’s as tuned in from what I’ve seen on the Giants that there is. I’m going to talk about that in a minute. Make sure you hit that like, that share. If you have not already, you like the content, hit that subscribe button. Also, this is not, you know, a clickbait. This is none of that. It’s just addressing what is out there right now. And there’s really not anything from what I’ve seen. Tennessee mods, uh, Kane of Allquest, he said he’s checking into the rumors right now. Of course, they’re going to say there’s it’s nothing they’ve heard. They don’t know anything about it right now. And there may be nothing to this, uh, because it it is very rare that you see college coaches make the jump from college to the majors. But there is, of course, the Giants fired Bob Melvin today. They’re moving on. It said Buster Posey. He is uh what the GM of the Giants how he’s looking for it said somebody with some fire basically in him. Well, one name it says was linked to it is Tony Velo and we’ll read this. I’ve got it saved on my phone from the article because I can’t link it on here but I’ve got the article here. So, it says all right and um from what I saw the post from Joe Healey of D1 Baseball who’s a college baseball podcaster. He covers college baseball, but he retweeted this or he basically screenshotted part of the article and put it on there. And um this is from Andrew Baggerly who is of the Athletic and according to Healey, he says Baggerly is as tuned in on Giants News as anyone out there. So there’s numerous names mentioned, but it comes to this point. Keep this in mind. It’s just names being out there right now. So I’m not sitting here tell you he’s about to take the job. it’s imminent or anything like that, but here it is. And I quote from Andrew Baggerly of the Athletic. Here’s one out of the box name who fits the high motor description. Tony Vatella, who transformed the University of Tennessee from a bottom feeder in the Southeastern Conference into perhaps the brashest and most talented program in the country. It’s possible that Bella and Posey have already spoken. both were Cooler’s Field when the Giants played a three-game series against the Rockies earlier this month. It would be rare for an NCA coach with no professional experience to jump into a major league managerial position, but perhaps former Arizona State coach Pat Murphy’s resounding success with the Milwaukee Brewers and the unique energy he brings to their dugout might influence a new trend in how front offices seek to staff the position. One thing about that is with the Giants, the Rockies, you got to think Bautello’s there because Drew Gilbert plays for the Giants, which I’ll get back to in a minute. Jordan Beck, Chase Dolander playing for the Rockies. So, it’s possible he’s there taking in former Tennessee players for sure, but that’s pretty interesting as well. And again, it says it’s it’s possible that they’ve already spoken. and he doesn’t say for sure that they have, but that meeting, you know, could have taken place during that time. Maybe Posey gauged some interest on it to see where it’s at. Maybe it’s nothing. Obviously, fall ball is going on right now in Knoxville. So, there’s not really much more out there. That’s the only thing I’ve seen when I search around. Again, I’ve looked on Ball Quest. I’m looking at to see if there’s anything possibly um you know any other rumors and uh another article that was just put out just uh within the last 30 minutes from SF Gate. I’m going down it now as I’m going through it and um it it’s basically quoting from the athletic. It mentions trying to get down here. It’s going to mention Vello here and just Yeah, here it is. Says Tony Vatello is the most outside the box name on the list and was connected only by Baggerly. So, and then it kind of goes into some end said Vitell could provide a jolt of fresh air to the Giants dugout. uh you know it went on about it said as Bagger Lee noted it’s entirely possible Posie could want a new face and we know this name my guy my favorite dude who’s ever played for Tennessee Drew Gilbert said would certainly vouch for Velo having played at Tennessee and u you know something to keep in mind with that as well Gilbert become a big fan favorite out in San Francisco not that would influence the job by any means. But where did Gilbert come from? If you’ve seen any of the stuff going on, it was absolutely hysterical. It was awesome. That dude brought an energy to that team at the end of the year. They were a lot of fun. Unfortunately, they come up short and making the playoffs. But where does this thing go? Is there legs to it? We’ll hear. Right now, I would lean towards saying it’s a lone shot just to be honest with you. But sometimes thing uh teams think outside the box. This would be the ultimate outside the box just because of not that Velo can’t go to the majors and win or manage well. It’s just that you don’t see that jump from college to the majors happen. Uh I I cannot even tell you the last time I remember it happened off top of my head. If anybody knows on that, obviously I read about it with Murphy from Arizona State, but if there’s been one since then and you’re listening to this, leave me a name out there because I don’t have any recently. I I mean, I I can obviously look it up right now, but I’m trying to get through this video and get it posted here as well. You know, let’s look at best case, worst case scenarios. Best case, Tony Vatello comes back next year. This Tennessee team’s rolling. I released a video earlier tella last week talking about the pitchers. I didn’t get to put my hitters video out this weekend, past weekend just because it’s football. I got to use common sense on that. People’s not going to be listening for baseball stuff on a football weekend. It’s just not going to happen. Try to get that up tomorrow here. But that hitting lineup that Tony Valone staff have put together is loaded. It’s going to be loaded this year. this team’s going to have a real shot to go back to Omaha and they’re going to have a real shot to go back and win their second national championship in three years. All right, let’s go opposite end of the spectrum. Let’s say it does happen. Let’s say if it were to, again, don’t don’t twist my words here. I’m not saying it’s about to happen, okay? If you’re at this point in the video where you fast forwarded and I’m talking about potential replacement, it’s because I’m looking at the scenarios. I’m not saying it’s about to happen, but I think it’s pretty obvious in this regard. If you’re Tennessee, if Tony Vatello wanted a new challenge, he’s won in Knoxville. He’s done all he wants to do in college. Let’s say the opportunity presents itself. It happens. He goes to the Giants with it. I I think it’s pretty obvious Josh Elander promotes the head coach. I I think that’s just totally obvious. Now, who all would go with Batello? Would he take Frank Anderson? would he take anyone else? You know, he Bartello has connections in the major or he’s has connections around. So, it would be interesting to see who goes, but for me off top my head and just looking at I would think Josh Elander would make the most sense. Promote him to head coach. You keep what you have, you keep a familiarity in place and you roll on with that. But we’ll see. I you know I would imagine I would imagine this thing will get sorted out pretty quick and uh but it could you know how could it influence the current Tennessee team because obviously you’re going to get a portal window coming up if I’m not mistaken for baseball and you know you get those times especially I would think it would apply to baseball as well in football when the coaches are fired there’s a 30-day window to uh hit the portal will transfer out. What would happen with Tennessee’s roster? To me, if again, worst case scenario, if Vital were to go to San Francisco, obviously, we hope he doesn’t. Obviously, we don’t want him to go anywhere. But in the event that it did happen, I I mean, I think it’s a no-brainer. You promote Elander, there’s familiarity. Elander knows all, you know, probably all these parents and uh they keep on going with that as well. I’ll keep you posted if there’s anything more to this than, you know, just being a a name mentioned, which that’s what it is right now. The the most interesting part to me was not so much that his name’s mentioned. It was that a potential meeting between Buster Posey and Vatello has taken place. And again, the source on that, Andrew Baggerly is, you know, apparently one of the most well-informed Giants riders that’s out there. I don’t know that he’s the most in tune, but it sounds like he is very very in tune with the pro. Writes for the Athletic. So, you know, based on what I’ve seen from the Athletic, they hire pretty good guys on it. Again, I’ll keep you posted if anything else comes along. Frank, House of Orange. I’ll see you when I see you. [Music]

Can't see it. Vitello loves recruiting and developing kids. I can't imagine him coaching 30-40 year olds.
Nooooo
Tony has always thought that SF baseball was for losers. Spread the rumor. lol.
The tea leaves say it's a significant enough possibility. Buster felt so strongly about Gavin Kilen that he passed on Ike Irish, who was a more urgent need, in the 1st round. Then he insists on Tidwell/Gilbert in the Rogers trade. It's been obvious for months now that there's something about the Tennessee program that is highly intriguing to him.
In the words of Michael Scott from The Office.
“NO GOD, NO PLEASE GOD NO, NOOOO!!!!!!
GBO ⚾️🍊
We must protect Vitello at all cost!!
I think the only way Vitello might consider leaving is if he knew they would hire Elander to take his place. But, I see no world where a blue-collar guy like Vitello who lives and breaths recruiting would go manage a bunch of ego's in the MLB.
Considering Tony V. is already making 3 million a year, which is right on par with three quarters of MLB managers, plus the fact that Tony’s buyout is 4+ million, yeah, Tony is staying at UT.
Vols could promote hitting instructor as head coach.
We all know Tony LOVES Knocksville!!! And Knocksville LOVES him!! That will NEVER change!! If he chooses to go that route, GO BE GREAT COACH!!! I like the sound of Coach E!!! 💪
Honestly why would you even consider going to MLB when you can have a huge College Baseball legacy attached to your name. MLB is a different game with a bunch of guys playing for money with no heart.
Giant fan here and soon to be ex-California and new Tennessean (don’t worry I’m a strong conservative and NOT bringing one ounce of liberalism to the wonderful state, hence the move)….if Tony wants to be a MLB manager, then this team is ideal for him. The giants are not a fire dumpster of a franchise as one commenter wrote. Buster is like Tony in that he is a winner and demands winning! He’s got a solid core in place (Chapman, Adames, Devers, Webb, Ray) and some youngsters (Gilbert and Eldridge) that could strengthen that core. The only bad thing about the organization is that it is in San Francisco and California. The ballpark is top 3 in league. If Tony’s desire is to be a big league manager, this is the place to get his start! And buster is going to give Tony his choices in assistant coaches and his say on how he wants to manage the team. Me as a Lifelong Giant fan, would love this! Me as a future Tennessean would not.
Thanks Frank!! I hope Tony never leaves UT!!
Not worth it Tony . Stay put . Your better in the college game .
HUGE MISTAKE! Giants font office must ALL GO.
The giants have won the world series three times in fifteen years. Name another team who's won three world series in the last fifteen years.
Giants have Blake Tidwell in AAA, he will make squad next year
It's a beautiful day here in Southside Virginia, but this rumor sure darkened my day awful quick.
Just let us have him, he's done enough for you guys!! JK, I'm here because I'm trying to find info on Tony V outside of his impressive resume. Do Vols fans think his managerial style will translate to grown men making multi millions per year? BTW – Drew Gilbert only had 100 ABs on the Giants this year and he's an absolute fan favorite.
Don Mattingly says I'm Ready Now!! … If hired, could persuade "The Polar Bear" Pete Alonso to come on out and play 1st , hit 3rd or 4th.. just a thought!!
Orange to Black & Orange, we will treat him right ! 🙏
Giants have Kilen, Gilbert, and Tidwell
We don't want your college coach.
The Angels should hire him. They have several of his players now.
If he goes anywhere I hope he goes to the braves
This would be terrible terrible news for UT!
Looks likes they are finalizing it! Sad good luck tony
If he decides to take another big challenge at the MLB level that his decision. I'm thankful for the incredible job the man did for the university of Tennessee. Wish him his family the best in what ever he decides to do . He is VFL . I certainly think he b dam good coach in the MLB. Man knows how to get people to buy what he selling.
