Listen, I get it. I remember the game, I remember how crazy it was. I’m not saying it wasn’t rigged because I know the NFL wanted their shiny new California team to get to a Super Bowl (that’s why I still despise the Rams). HOWEVER, at some point I think we need to stop harping on it every day. It’s not healthy for us as a fanbase. There has to be a point where it’s not our main topic of discussion every day. It is just kinda is what it is.

I don’t really think the game was rigged, I really do think it was just a complete idiot referee missing a call, with 0 repercussions. I think the rigging and collusion happened after this, when they refused to overturn any PI we challenged the following year, and for like 3 or 4 years in a row we had the biggest penalty discrepancy between us and our opponent, which is statistically impossible lol.
No.
You’re wrong. We don’t have to stop harping on it. It’s the biggest no call in modern sports history and the moment we stop bringing it up, is the moment it starts to fade away. I will never be fine with that happening.
My two cents: We, as a collective fanbase, reserve the right to remain salty, sad, petty, etc. until a team is screwed harder than we were in that moment. Which I really don’t see happening for a LONG time.
But, it does not hold power over me anymore. About a year ago, I decided to stop allowing myself to feel upset by it. I try to focus on the positives, like that I got to watch Drew Fucking Brees play football live, in person, for 15 years, rather than the negatives, like the no-call denying him another Super Bowl.
To each their own, honestly. I’ll never tell anyone to get over it or not dwell on it. It really is that bad a moment in our history. But I’ve certainly found my own ways of making peace with it.
Indeed TF not. Now people think they have a right to tell me what to be upset about and what to let go? As fucking IF.
I will be angry until the day I die.
Watched it in the Dome and the energy shift was WILD! Only added fuel to the fire of my anger.
I was taught, and I believe, that officiating does not determine the outcome of a game. I consider this the one exception and football fans should never forget it. Brees/Brady would’ve been the most anticipated SB in history. A game that all fans and both teams deserved.
I’m convinced we win that Super Bowl. That no call did a lot of damage to both the players and the franchise as a whole.
I don’t even talk about it often but my answer to you is no.
You’re also wayyyyy over-inflating how central of a topic it is here.
Saints fans still crying about this while conveniently ignoring the vikings game that got them their super bowl will always be hilarious to me. At least in rams saints the officiating sucked for both sides yall were gifted a superbowl and still complain
Top comment on r/nfl about this:
“Personally I wonder if the refs didn’t call any of the Saints dirty hits on Favre in the 2009 NFCCG because the league wanted the feel good story of the Saints returning to the super dome and then winning a super bowl soon afterward.”
Jesus Christ just shut the fuck up already about 2009! If they wanted to rig it for us they would have in 2006!
I also wanna point out that NONE of the refs were deemed to be wrong and faced absolutely zero punishment. 4 refs were from the general SO-CAL area… I mean shit the Head Ref Bill Vinovich reffed the very next years’ Super Bowl. That’s the bigger issue for me. Nobody besides the franchise got punished and I do believe that other franchises would have gotten a better turnover from the NFL post game (no they would NEVER bring anyone back to replay the game or the moment). Only thing we got from the NFL was a rule change that made PI calls/non calls get booth reviews…. And it was removed for the 2020 NFL season 🙂
This is the one moment I can point to that killed my love of the NFL. It just simply has not been the same for me since
Nah, never. We got robbed of a Super Bowl trip, something some teams still have never gotten. There’s no “getting over it”.
It’s not about fixing it. I dont know any rational people that still thinks that the call can get “fixed” now.
The Rams deserved to be there. Plain and Simple. It’s why they were also there 3 years later.
something something bounty gate….
Why are you posting about it and telling people to move on at the same time. gtfo
I got killed in here a few weeks ago for brining it up😂😂😂 but I loved it. It will forever haunt me but, we will be compensated one of these years
The sun will shine again on us ladies and gents!!!
We were robbed of a Super Bowl trip and sports fans worldwide were robbed of a Brees/Brady Super Bowl by what is arguably the biggest officiating blunder in the history of North American pro sports.
I’d much rather see posts talking about this so people don’t forget and so it doesn’t happen again.
Also- I’m sure this sub would love a break from the 86 weekly posts debating two two low-tier QBs
