Miami Dolphins BIG Injury Updates + Dolphins News Before Falcons Game

NFL week eight is on the horizon and we have a lot of news to discuss. Injury updates as well as some news on how the Dolphins roster may ultimately look on Sunday as the Dolphins travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. This is Dolphins today by Chad Sports. I am Nick Rolloloff and speaking of NFL Week 8, we are going to be live on the channel as we always are. Join me and Jeffrey Cooperstein this Sunday for a Falcons Dolphins week 8 watch party. This will be our thumbnail. So, if you see it, click on it and join us. Yeah, the Dolphins may be shitty, but hey, we’re still going to be here bringing you the entertainment and commentary on this team you need. We’ll start with the injury news. We’ll look at a lengthy injury report from Atlanta. Miami’s is actually relatively short. Yeah, we know the amount of players that are on IR, but Julian Hill is the only player ruled out for this game. He is dealing with an ankle injury. Jason Marshall Jr. has not been activated off of IR. Practice window 21 days has been opened. He is questionable for this game with a hamstring injury, but you have to remain positive about potentially getting the rookie back into the fold at the nickel cornerback spa. I mentioned the Falcons injury reports a little bit longer. Well, how about a lot longer? Eight players on the injury report. Four of them already ruled out, four of them listed as questionable. the out. Billy Bowman, the rookie DB from Oklahoma, and Jaylen Walker, first round edge rusher from Georgia, is out for this one. They’re also missing their linebacker Devon Diablo, and offensive lineman Storm Norton. Now, the questionables are the big names here. Tyler Algier, the RB2, is questionable. Fuller and Harrison, and then Michael Pennock Jr., the starting QB, the secondyear lefty from Washington. Now, he might be left or listed as questionable with a bone bruise in his foot. He will play. He has told reporters all week long that he intends to play even though he’s got that bruised bone in his foot. So, we should expect to see the lefty from Washington. Now, on Miami side, we showed you the two players with injury designations for this game. That means Jaylen Wadd, the wide receiver who was a DNP on Thursday’s practice with hamstring rest listed as the reason, well, he has no designation, which means the wide receiver won for Miami is all good to go for this game, which is big-time news because Miami losing Darren Waller for at least four games due to that pec injury. Need weapons out on the field to help the offense’s life. and well Wadd being there will be very very big. Uh let’s get into some of the roster moves now and shift away from the injury stuff because the whole talking point this week around the Dolphins is what’s going on with the quarterback situation. Two are going to be benched. No, obviously not. But the battle for QB2 was the QB2 this past week and actually saw the field. Well, Mike McDaniel said it’s going to be a week-toeek competition. Hope it’s not the case like that going forward. But he said today to reporters that this has been the best week of practice for the two of them and he still does not know who is going to be the backup to Tua on Sunday in Atlanta. And if I’ll be honest, this feels extremely dumb to me. Why are we doing this whole song and dance around the QB2 position? I I don’t get it. Like you made the switch from Zack Wilson to Quinn. You already made it. So, why do you feel like it’s necessary to play this song and dance on, oh, who is going to be QB2 for the Dolphins this week? Like, I I I just feel like you already made the switch to the seventh round rookie. Did he look good against the Browns? Eh, he was up and down, made the one ridiculous throw, but other than that was pretty bad. I just think with how this Dolphin season is going, there’s really no reason to feel as if you should keep Wilson as the second quarterback. He’s on a one-year deal. We know what Zach Wilson is. Have the young man active this upcoming Sunday. That me and Quinn Ears. But you pick a QB2 for me down in the comments section. Pin comment on today’s show. Who should be the backup to Tua this Sunday? Type ZW for Zack Wilson. Type QE for Quinn Eert. Let’s talk about Darren Waller real quick. We mentioned earlier this week he was placed on injured reserve with a pec injury. Mike McDaniels said it is not a season ending injury and they do expect him to return. Now, when he returns, that is certainly up for debate because I don’t know why Waller would return this season. It’s a lost year for Miami. they’re one and six and they’re likely not going to make any noise when he returns. So, why shouldn’t he just kind of prioritize himself um return maybe not at all this season and ultimately see how he feels at the end of the year if he wants to continue playing or not. Now, with Waller out obviously this week and Julian Hill ruled out Tanner Connor and Greg Doulich are the two tight ends that are on this active roster. You wonder if we’ll see Hayden Ruchcci or Chris Mrick elevated to the active roster off of the practice squad this week. Um, I am excited to see what Tanner Connor and Greg Doulich can do. I think Doulich can be an impactful receiving threat at that tight end position, especially in the red zone. And we’ll get to see a lot of Tanner Connor and Doulich with Julian Hill and Darren Waller out. All right, coming up in just one second, we’re going to talk about some potential roster and lineup changes the Dolphins could make this week against the Atlanta Falcons. But before we get into that, I got to tell you about the sponsor on today’s show. It is Prize Pick. You and I make decisions every single day, but on Prize Pick, being right can get you paid. That’s code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup price fix. It’s good to be right. Let’s segue to the lineup changes that Miami could ultimately make because straight up, Coach McDaniel was asked about potential changes that could come to the roster and he said, “Well, we got to have you guys entertained on this coming week.” And I have a couple ideas on what the changes could be. I think one of them is a change at RB. Jaylen Wright may be back to his RB2 role. I think Jonah Savania being benched is certainly an option because of how poor he has played. More on him coming up in a second. And CB2 switcheroo. Rousul Douglas has been awesome, but Jack Jones has been very up and down. Could there be a change there? And the reason why we’re talking about this, I did want to show this quote here. I’ll have to give you reason to tune in on Sunday. That’s quite literally what Mike McDaniel said. That’s so fascinating to me that he would say that, but what can you expect? Mike McDaniel has really no clue what he’s doing up there. But the reason why I suspect Jaylen Wright could be one of the lineup changes is that Mike McDaniel said he’s a had a phenomenal couple weeks of practice and could ultimately see more work. And I don’t think it’s the craziest thing in the world. I love Ali Gordon and I’ve talked about how Jaylen Wright is a trade candidate because he’s buried on this depth chart and was a healthy and active two weeks in a row against the Chargers and the Panthers, but he was active this past week against the Browns. Mike McDaniel said he’s had great practices. So maybe we see the secondyear running back out of Tennessee on the active roster and into the work line this upcoming week. But we talked about potentially benching Jonah Savi and Ia. The second round pick out of Arizona has been just absolutely abysmal. He started every game this season next to the other young offensive lineman Patrick Paul who has been great in pass protection. Certainly has struggled in the run but like what we’ve seen from the secondyear man from Houston. Sullivan’s line is bruised and battered. No Austin Jackson still, no Larry or Larry Borm filling in, no James Daniels, Cole Strange filling in. But Jonah has continued to start and he’s continued to be the worst offensive lineman in football. I mean, that is seriously how he is graded out. I mean, you see his PFF numbers on the screen right now. He’s allowed three sacks, 21 pressures, a 2.1 pass blocking grade. Like every week it feels like Jonah Savinayia has like four or five reps where he is on his butt and gets beat in pass pro like within a half a second giving to absolutely no chance to step up in the pocket or have any time to survey the field. He has been an absolute liability. I have called and many of others have speculated, hey, maybe it’s time to bench Jonas Savanaya because I think we’re doing more damage to him and his development by leaving him out there to try to swim when he’s getting dragged down by a,000 pound weights in the middle of the ocean because that’s what it feels like with Jonah. But let’s be real here, like are you getting better by benching Jonah and playing either Keon Smith or Daniel Brun at left guard? Like no, probably not. And it’s bad that like that’s the benchmark because Jonah has been that bad. But you have to come to the realization and make the decision in this way. There is not going to be that much of an improvement in play with Keon Smith and Daniel Brun. So the only reason why you would bench Jonah is if you actually do believe what is happening on the field on a day-to-day and week-to-eek basis is hurting his confidence and hurting his development. But if you feel like he still has self-confidence and you feel like he’s getting better, which tape hasn’t shown that, well then leave him out there because Brunell and Smith aren’t the biggest upgrades. But what say you? Should the Dolphins bench Jonah Savvy and I get down in the comments section, let me know. Type B for bench or type S for continuing stardom. All right, we mentioned a potential switcheroo at CB2. Rousul Douglas has been the locked in CB1 for Miami this entire season after Storm Duck got hurt and he’s been the best corner on Miami without a single question to be asked either. Jack Jones has been very up and down for Miami, but they have Juju Brent, Storm Duck is back, Ethan Bonner, and Jason Marshall Jr. coming back potentially from IR. Well, the reason why I think this could be another roster move that Miami is making is the last two weeks has signified a slight change. Rascul Douglas is the leading snap guy by a healthy margin among these quarterbacks in the last couple games against Cleveland and LA. But Jack Jones has seen his snaps go down a little bit with Ethan Bonner getting more playing time. Juju Brince even saw nine snaps in the last couple of weeks. And Kendall Sheffield, who was activated off of the practice squad for last week, just a oneame elevation, even was on the field for six snaps. So you’re certainly seeing a slight shift at the cornerback position. We’ll see if Storm Duck gets a little bit more involved. We’ll see if Ju Guu Brent can see the field. I’m intrigued to see what Brents can bring to the table. Former second round pick, Miami claimed on roster cutown day after he was weighed by the Indianapolis Colts. Like this season’s lost. Like I’m intrigued to see what Juju Bruns can bring to the table, if he can bring anything. And that’ll do it for today’s show.
