Not sure why my initial post didn't go through, but here's a link to the release
I'm definitely a little shocked about the return. I'm not sure he was worth a ton given his inconsistency, but a 4th round pick is not much unless it just happens to be a lottery hit. I can't imagine KD is excited about a 4th round pick, so maybe it's just a roster space thing.
Edit: per Ben Pope – he believes previous offers were even lower. https://xcancel.com/BenPopeCST/status/1981808854926316030

Bro got traded for a bag of pucks.
Maybe now everyone will stop bitching about him and how the Hawks screwed his development.
Kinda saw it coming but for a 4th round pick?

What do you guys expect for a fringe nhl player
Yeah the comments aren’t it right now. Reichel just doesn’t have a spot here anymore and has a very low hockey IQ. I get it, he was a 1st round pick but it just didn’t work out for him here.
It’s been multiple seasons now of him showing flashes and then disappearing for weeks. Not surprised by the return and expecting anything more is a bit naive
Went from promising, to buried, to not taking advantage of any opportunity.
Maybe he works out in Vancouver, but things were never gelling in Chicago and his value was only going to keep slipping the longer he floundered here.
4th rounder was the most we’d get for him.
He was drafted 5 years ago and has been consistently underwhelming.
The only reason people think he’s any good is he’s fast and skates past a few people sometimes, which 99% of the time leads to absolutely nothing.

It’s likely they want a roster spot to bring someone up from Rockford….and they couldn’t send Reichel down without waivers(right?). So a 4th is better than someone just claiming him and us getting nothing at all.
Gonna miss his goofy interviews and TikTok’s 🤣
I was rooting for Reichel for the longest, but he just can’t get it together. Hopefully he benefits from a change in scenery.
Bye Reichel. Wishing him the best of luck on the Canucks. He seems like a sweet guy.
Guy had multiple opportunities on a bottom Hawks team to carve a consistent role, but couldn’t manage to do it. Not sure what some of you were expecting to get in return, even if he was a former 1st rounder.
Definition of mutually parting ways for the better. Not every prospect works out.
I honestly think a 4th makes sense. Where he was drafted vs what he looks like now isn’t the same. Other GMs aren’t gonna wanna spend more than a 4th on a total gamble.
Well that’s not that surprising. A guy who can barely crack the lineup here after several years is not very valuable.
You part ways with a fella who’s clearly not fitting the way anyone wanted, wish him the best of luck, open up a roster spot for a rookie to come up and cut his teeth with the big team, and people will complain regardless.
For what he has shown in the NHL and at 23 years old it’s not actually that unreasonable for only a 4th round pick, 1. Because he’s not far from aging out of prime developmental age, and 2. The risk factor is high if the change of scenery doesn’t work for him…
Now Vancouver wanting a guy like him I find is actually kind of weird they aren’t a very physical gritty team, and are already very fast paced as a team, so it worries me that he will get buried in a system filled with the same type of players.
A team like Washington would’ve been fantastic for him they need his speed and he needs a team that still has top end talent while not being completely bad.
I wish him the best he’s a really cool dude eat him once at a fan meet up was one of the only guys that said hey how’s it going to me before I said it.
Wanted this guy to work it but it became increasingly obvious that wasn’t gonna happen. Oh well best of luck.
What I’ve learned from this is that some people think NHL teams have unlimited roster spots, unlimited money to pay players who don’t play, and that you can send players to and from the AHL whenever you want because there are no rules.
Im going to miss him but this is ultimately the right call
Wish him well but not surprised.
Whoever said “end the Reichel experiment now ” in the postgame thread yesterday (or it may have been an athletic comment thread), congratulations.
Pretty much a move to get Moore up here
Wow. This is pretty low of a return. But sitting him on the bench when you can’t send him down doesn’t improve that situation. I have say it is shocking to me how he looked so good in his first few years of Rockford and even on short call ups. How someone regresses from there at that age as much as he did is shocking.
