🔴LIVE 🔴Toronto Blue Jays vs Los Angeles Dodgers/October 24/World Series Envivo/MLB THE SHOW 25
started here. And today’s starting pitcher, Shane Bieber. What’s a scouting report on him? Well, the big thing is that the way he holds his curveball, it’s more of a knuckle curve. And because of that, it’s less predictable in terms of the break for the hitter. That makes it that much harder to hit this guy. Ready to go now. Here’s a speed threat, Justin Dean. And that one misses up and in. And the World Series is underway. [Applause] That one lifted to left. Springer and out number one on the grab. Let’s check out the lineup. Here’s what they came up with for game one of the World Series. Singy. Yeah, they’re hoping they piece together a winner. Historically speaking, the team that wins this opening game more often than not goes on to win the World Series. Today is a day to come storming out of the gates. Here’s Muki. Now, [Applause] that’s a strike and it’s a one. looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone, middle away. One out, base is empty. Next offering is outside. 02 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. [Applause] Next offering upstairs [Applause] and he takes [Applause] [Music] [Applause] knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And it’s ball four. He missed down low. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. And at first, Will Smith to the plate right through there for a strike. back to right and that’s a foul ball [Applause] swing and a highf fly ball left field. Springer sizes this one up. Two down. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Freddy Freeman up to the dish. Obviously a guy who makes good contact, hits for average. But one of the things in today’s game, the value in the fact that he hits both righties and lefties immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. They’re so reliant on the matchups nowadays, Chris, and it’s huge when you don’t have to sit a guy or platoon when you can hit, you know, both sides in terms of pitchers arms. You’re a guy that it’s hard to take out of the lineup. And I think it’s very important today when everything is under the microscope. Next pitch is outside. Two gone, but the go-ahead run is at first here in game one of the World Series. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. So, the Dodgers leave one. Now, the Blue Jays will get their chance. No score. You’re watching the World Series on the show. back here at Rogers Center and today’s starter Roki Sasaki. Well, they’re going with the opener in this one. So, this is an interesting look. He’s probably only going to pitch an inning, maybe two at the most. And it’s going to be unconventional. I think he’s going to pitch backwards, more off speed and then fast. Bottom of the first and the batter is George Springer. Springer. Ball one there. [Applause] Now a screamer into the outfield. Holds it in for the out. Let’s take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays. Chris, this is a lineup offensively that could be really good for years to come. They’re deep first and foremost, but the way that they can manipulate their personnel for matchups and everything else, it’s uh very intelligent the way that they use their team. And I I think it creates a little bit of uh uncertainty for opposing teams, especially in a big game, big series. Nathan in the box now. No balls in a strike. [Applause] That clips a corner. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Rightander kick, steals, strike three. It’s a strike out for Roki. Wow, that’s a tough call for the hitter, but the pitcher will take that all day long. Not quite in the strike zone, but he found a spot that the umpire is going to, at least for now, allow him to get that call. So, hitters are going to have to make an adjustment, but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit him if they can. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. now first pitch and that’s in for a strike. [Applause] cut on and lifted in the air. Pah makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. Scoreless after one. [Applause] Game one of the World Series. Here’s a switch hitter, Tommy Edmond. Beaver, a 63 righty, 200 lb, and he was drafted in the fourth round back in 2016. [Music] As we kick off the World Series, it is hard not to think about Kirk Gibson’s incredible walk-off homer against Dennis Acersley in game one back in 1988. An iconic moment in baseball history. That one miss lot of great game one moments for Alex Gordon’s game tying homer for the Royals in the bottom of the ninth in 2015 really sticks out for me. They went on to win that game in 14 innings. [Applause] bounce to the right. Conor Fa one out in second. Here’s Taskar Hernandez. [Applause] That’s in there. No score here in the second and it’s foul away. One down. Base is empty and there’s a ball. Really nice slider right there. Sweeping across the dish but just couldn’t hang the edge. Outside two and two. and downstairs. [Applause] That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. Breaking ball in that 32 count kind of tells you that that’s the pitch he has the most confidence in right now. Just couldn’t find the strike zone. Here’s Muny to hit and that is out of play. [Applause] Here comes the one fast ball for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Hernandez over at first with one away. Twins and misses. It’s a strike out. Some high keys for strike three. Bird gets talked about a lot, but a good high fast in a two strike situation, it’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years. With all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate, having a good grip on the baseball, those high fast balls, they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising even though they’re not, but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate. So, very difficult to get the barrel on. The one that one fouled off, two outs. Good job to fight that one off. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. [Applause] Pitch in the dirt and count. One and two. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. No runs on, no hits, no errors, and one left. We go to the bottom of inning number two. We’re tied nothing. Nothing. [Applause] And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the second. Now, the Toronto hitter, Alejandro Kirk. Chris, baseball today, so many strikeouts. and they are available to pitchers, but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. Sasaki back to work. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. Yeah, that’s fouled off. singing. One of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore. So when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this, do you think of that as plus value? Absolutely. If he’s doing damage now, if he’s rolling over and and grounding out, then it’s a different story. But yeah, if he can put the ball in the gaps or over the fence, 100%. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. And that’s the swing. It’s a strike out. And now it’s Baron Bar. [Applause] Basketball is outside. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter. [Applause] Oh, that’s just out. Yeah. And I figured you would get caught into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. And that misses. And that’s ball three upstairs outside. That’s ball four. And that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. Now at the plate, Ernie Clement. Game one of the World Series here tonight and all he’s hoping is that the success that he’s had in the first couple of rounds continues. The great thing you’re here in the World Series now just try to have fun. The performance has been outstanding. And why should it stop now? How do they cool him off? Well, they’re going to be extremely careful with him. I doubt he’s going to get much to hit today, but when he does, be careful because he can hit it a long way [Applause] in the air. Left side. Hernandez has it. rised up, pulls it down, and there’s two gone. Batting seven, right fielder, Addison Barger. So, up next for Toronto, Addison Barger. And a foul ball [Applause] outside low and it’s one and two [Applause] and that one missing low. Great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count off at two and two. Such a better feeling for the hitter. popped up to the left into foul ground and that is that one left for Toronto. We’ll move to the third with no score. [Applause] Top half of the third inning and at the plate for the Dodgers. Andy Pas [Applause] right through there for a strike. Swing and a miss. That’s strike two. Another O2 count right here. Pitcher just in the driver’s seat. He can go anywhere he wants to go right here. Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. That was a wellexeed slider away for the strike out right there. First two pitches filled up the zone and got him ahead 02 in the count. And at that point you can start expanding the zone as a pitcher. He made him chase and got the quick strike out. So the batting order turns over. Now it’s the Dodger leadoff hitter Justin Dean. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. [Applause] Top of the third, no score. [Applause] Inside just missed. [Applause] [Music] And another ball. Oh, I would expect in this three-0 count. You’re taking all the way. See if they walk you. splits the plate and that is strike one. Clearly taking all the way there in that 3 0 count. It was a cookie right down the middle. Swinging a ground ball on the run. Throw to first. Got him. Nice play. Now that shorts stop Mookie. Here’s Mookie now worked to walk in his first trip to the plate. [Applause] And that’s outside [Applause] and that one wrapped foul. Two outs. Base is empty. [Applause] Base knock center field. [Applause] The batter now will be Will Smith. He’s 0 for one. [Applause] There’s strike. Two gone, but the go ahead run is at first. in game one of the World Series. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an O2 count. If you’re up there at the plate, you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that’s down. Smash through that one. It’s the strike out. So, one hit is all they get. We head down to the home half of inning number three. No score. [Applause] Bottom of the inning. Here’s the second base. Isaiah Ker Isaiah Kera. Highf fly ball out towards left field. back there on the warning track and holds it in. Ninth shortstop Jimenez. That’s a really nice job right there. Great awareness making the catch up against the wall. You see the perfect technique feeling for the wall with the bare hand while keeping his eyes on the baseball as it’s coming down. His glove in a good position to make the catch. That’s exactly how you do it. Here’s Andre Himenez. can’t love it. Cleanly gets off a throw and they get it. The misplay made it a bit messy, but they clean things up for the hour. George Springer. Back to the top of the lineup. Here’s George Springer. 0 for one so far. [Applause] edge of the zone for a strike. 0 and one. [Applause] Hammer down the right side. The foul. [Applause] 0 and two now. just misses with that one. Really good take especially with two strikes. Foul ball still a one and two count. Two down to [Applause] and a foul ball. He stays alive. That’s way outside the countdown now two and two. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. cut on and missed and it’s a strikeout and that is the inning. Down in order go the Blue Jays. Still no score as we go to the top of the fourth. And now the first baseman Freddy Freeman. Slider [Applause] misses outside. One. And that one fouled off. [Applause] popped up on the left side of the infield. Clement under it and there’s one down. That was a good hard basketball with some nice ride up in the zone right there. Hit looked like he was on it, but I think that velocity at the end just beat him instead of a line drive or something hit deep. It’s a pop up and an easy out for the defense. [Applause] Swing and a foul out of play. Fourth inning underway. No score. Next offering is down low. [Applause] That one pulled foul. inside and the count is even to a two. [Applause] Basketball is outside. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. Fights it off. He’ll see another [Applause] Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches, still able to make some type of contact. And a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast. And now Oscar Hernandez reached out to walk his first time. Pitch misses inside. One and0 [Applause] and a swing and a miss there. I got a ball. One strike. Next offering upstairs. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. [Applause] Next one is off the plate and it’s a full count. [Applause] And that’s a fair ball around first. Digging for two. The throw in. Not going to get him. He’s in there. Now batting. Third base. Singy. That was a laser shot. And a good thing we have Stackcast to give us the details. Yeah, get out of the way on that one. That ball flew out of the box at 112 mph. You talk about generating a ton of power in that swing. He did it with quick hands, good lower half, and just unloaded on that ball. Muny stands in now and watches strike one. Well, they’re looking to get on the board first here after that clutch two out double made this inning interesting. [Applause] ripped right field. That’s back there. That one way back and it’s gone. And they jump ahead in the fourth. It’s two nothing. That was blasted. Absolutely no doubt off the bat. [Applause] A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Here’s Kik Hernandez. Struck out swinging his first time. And there’s a foul ball. [Applause] Two outs. Hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the funky Muny was the homer for LA and it’s two zip. This is the World Series on the show. and welcome back to the ballpark. Now it’s the DH Nathan Lucas. And the first pitch misses for ball one [Applause] right through there for a strike. [Applause] A swing and a miss as he chases way out of the zone. [Applause] And that’s down and away. [Applause] Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Fernandez grabs it on the run. Well, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. [Applause] Sliced hard but fouled. The Jays down by a pair. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That’s in there and the count is 0 and two. Oh, this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes. Even a good pitch early in the at bat, if he’s not ready to pull the trigger, he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count. Muny, slings to first, and Guerrero is set down. Now Batty, the catcher, Alejandro K. And now the Toronto cleanup hitter, Alejandro Kirk, struck out swinging his first time. He is at the top of the game in terms of defense at the catching spot. [Applause] And first pitch fastball is in for a strike. It’s so impressive because these guys have to do so much study and preparation for their pitchers, for opposing hitters, and really their number one job is to guide that staff through a ball game. And so when you also can turn it up offensively and be a force there, that is a win-win. Every manager’s dream. Swinging a ball lifted to center field. Hernandez makes the grab and that’s the inning. [Applause] game one of the World Series. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Andy Pahes. Bieber back to work. Breaking ball misses down and away. Counts one and0. P 24 years old and he was born in Cuba. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder [Applause] outside with a breaking ball. [Applause] CA strikes him out for the second time today. By just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count off the two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. [Applause] And that one is lifted in the air. Fair ball. went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he can handle. And now they got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. [Applause] [Applause] Here’s Bats. A walk and he’s also singled. Got a breaking ball. Misses outside. This might be a steel situation, but that’s not your average catcher behind the dish. You have to be careful here. Man at first, one away. That’s off the inside corner and the count now two and nothing. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Yariel Rodriguez getting loose out there. Number 56 getting cranked up as well. [Applause] Out to center. Baro under it. Makes the grab. Two down. Now Daddy catcher Will Smith. And up to the plate is Will Smith. 0 for two in this one. [Applause] That’s too low. And that is ball one. Well, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. [Applause] That one misses and now three and 0. Really close pitch down around the knees there and you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. There’s the strike. Three and one. Dean leads off first with two down to the inning. And ball four to a board. His ability to draw walks has been something that’s been part of his career since day one. Manager out of the dugout now. And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. That’s it for Shane Beamer. Just never found his groove. Wasn’t able to settle in. New arm coming on. Back in a moment. [Applause] Now pitching. New pitcher now for the Jays. Yariel Rodriguez. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of them right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Here is Freddy Freeman. Singi, he’s got a history of coming through in the big spots. I know I like to talk about I’m not sure whether clutch actually exists, but you look at the numbers and this guy always seems to deliver in those spots. First offering and it just misses. Well, I think it’s the ability to assess the situation, understanding what the pitcher has, what he’s trying to get people out on, and then being able to use the entire field. That one catches the zone and now it’s even one and one. If you’re a guy that can only hit to one field, then you’re really not going to be able to come through in clutch situations because pitchers are going to adjust. But because he’s able to use the entire field, that’s why he’s so successful in these situations. And it’s even up. First and second, two down here in game one of the World Series and down on strikes. And that is that. So the Jays pen does its job nicely there. Home half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Dodgers two and a nothing. [Applause] Back now in Toronto, we head to the bottom of the fifth. And now for the Jays Bar [Applause] and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Bar show needs just one more homer to reach 100 in the big leagues. [Applause] Foul ball there. Yeah, making it to 100 homers would be quite the career accomplishment for him. Out of the more than 20,000 players to take an at bat in the majors, less than 5% have ever hit 100 dinners. Got him looking. Making four strikeouts per love sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catch are on the same page right now. And that’s for Toronto. Ernie Clement right side and Freeman the Gold Glover makes the play, takes it himself and a couple of quick outs. Up next for the Blue Jays, right fielder Addison. Addison Barker. Next up for the Blue Jays. Popped out and fouled ground. First time through. [Applause] Hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning. Blue Jays go down in order. They’re still down. It’s two zip. [Applause] All set for the start of the inning. Tommy Edmond at the plate [Applause] right through there for a strike. You know, these Dodgers putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. They really made that opposing starter work in this one. ran his pitch count off and now they’ve got an opportunity to continue making things difficult on the bullpen. Next offering is in for a strike. And no, they haven’t broken it through in a big way in the runs column, but with the way they’re grinding out at bats, it definitely feels like there’s potential for more coming. That was pretty nasty. Well, that bat seemed to be over as soon as it started. Three pitch strike out. You got to be better at the plate right there just to bounce something off. Extend that at bat. Tay Oscar Hernandez steps to the plate for the Dodgers. That one’s in there. Strike one. 01’s the count. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top half of the six. [Applause] He swings and fouls one off [Music] [Applause] on the ground. Jimenez now the throw to first on the run and very nicely done for the out. [Applause] Max Muny at the dish. He had a big swing back in the fourth. A two-run homer and that helped them get the lead. And what a swing it was. Boo. Poetry in motion. And those are the type that you hardly feel when you connect with the baseball. Just so smooth. A great feeling off the bat. [Applause] And first off is fouled off. [Applause] Hard ground ball base knock. Now batting left fielder KK Hernandez. Two outs, runner at first. Kik Hernandez steps to the plate for the Dodgers. That’s in there. Strike one. [Music] [Applause] fought off foul. Muny off of first with two away and the pitch is outside. Ball one. His understanding the strike zone very impressive. That was a very close 02 fast. I just don’t know how you take that. That misses the zone and it’s two and two. Keeps the advant going with a foul ball. [Applause] gets a piece and stays alive. Two outs and they’ll do it again and Gary Simmons punches him out. That’s a strike out. So, no runs here on a base hit, no errors and one left. 891 scheduled in the bottom of the six. It’s the Dodgers two and the Jays nothing. Back here at Rogers Center we go bottom six. They’re now Isaiah Tinera. [Applause] Base hit center field. And they had their first base runner since the second inning. No more having to worry about keeping the no hitter alive. Now I can watch base hits like that one all day long. And so could every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. Andres Jimenez next up for the Blue Jays. 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond, and this guy is at the top of the list and you play behind guys and they love having your speed out there defensively. One of the things that we talk about is how much pitchers enjoy having those elite defenders behind them and ball one. Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. And a count one and two with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. One, two, center field. Hernandez settles underneath it, makes the grab, and there’s one down. Now that left fielder, George Springer, and it’ll be George Springer to step to the plate. Outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. [Applause] That one is absolutely belted into the corner, but foul. Looked like you got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, you want to stay up the middle that way. If you’re a little bit early, you hit it down in the ballpark. Really late. Opposite field. Not with the tying run at the plate here in the bottom of the six to third and gets by. into third now. So, runners at the corners and one out. Really nice job with two strike hitting a net at that. He kind of rolled over on this bench a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through a knock. And you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. Now, the number two hitter, Nathan Lucas. [Applause] Ball one there. [Applause] Whoa. Squirts away a little bit. No advance. Good job behind the dish. Brothers are at the corners. One away. Swung on. Belted. That one’s carrying. Tattoos in ter [Music] bro. That should get the dugout going and they lead it. It’s 32. Listen to these fans. This place is absolutely buzzing right now. You can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth. [Applause] So impressive. You have to have such a clear and direct path to the baseball on a split finger that location inside part of the plate. Did a tremendous job of staying inside of it and keeping that ball fair. Here’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. [Applause] And that’s in for a strike. [Applause] Still only one out here in the inning. Check swing didn’t go and the count even one and one action in the pen down there. Number 86 appears to be getting loose. Otani a right-hander loosening up as well. One down, base is empty. So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Applause] Hard hit to third. Gets it to first and Guerrero is set down. For the Blue Jays. Catcher Alejandro K. Two outs. Base is empty. Here’s the catcher, Alejandro Kirk. [Applause] [Applause] That one way inside. [Applause] [Applause] There’s a swing and a try. And that’s going to bang against the wall. Well, when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. And the Dodgers will go to the bullpen. Roki Sasaki done for the night and a decent effort considering he’s normally reliever. Back with the new pitcher in a minute. Now pitching for new pitcher for the Dodgers. Show Otani. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. So two down. Here’s the center fielder. Dalton Vo went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here. And it finds its way through for a hit. And now first and second with two outs. With that fast, even though it’s high velocity, you’ve got to live on the outer edges when it’s right on a tea right down the middle. Professional hitters are not going to have a problem turning it around. First and second, two outs. And now Ernie Clement and that’s outside. And it’s one to know. Well, with both starters out of the game, this quickly becomes a bullpin game. And this is something we see more and more in the game today, especially in the postseason. Two balls, no strikes to count. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. swings and misses and it’s two and one. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in right through there for a strike. Goodness, I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there in the mouth. That one ripped. That’s down. One hops off the wall. One run is in. Another comes in to score and they’re up by three. That’s now three hits in a row for the offense. That pretty much split the zone down the middle. And those are the ones where you got to make them pay. [Applause] [Applause] Next to hit, Addison Barton. Intentional walk here with two out. They set up a force at 80 base to end the inning. Now batting second base Isaiah first and second down. Now it’s the second baseman Isaiah Ker Fale one for two. And that one clips the corner and one [Applause] NLB the show 25. One down. Base is empty. Ground ball left side and it goes just foul. [Applause] Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss. Third foul ball in a row. In the air out towards right center. Baro on the move. Got it. Covered plenty of distance there. Two down. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes, they make the play perfectly. [Applause] Dean in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. It’s through for a hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. So, a man aboard and now to short stop. Mookie Betts swing and a ground ball out to Short on to first. That’ll end the inning after a lot of scoring. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 75. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Alex Via. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. for now for the Jays. Vladimir Guerrero Jun Guerrero Jr. [Applause] the first offering a fast ball for a strike. The Dodgers bullpen with some action. Christopher Su looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. [Applause] outside. One strike on the ground to third. Boots it. Still manages a throw and it’s in time. It wasn’t the smoothest play you’ll see today, but they still get the out. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. [Applause] Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Carous. That’s out number two. Got the pitch that he wanted. Just a little bit quick. front shoulder open, backside collapsed a little bit, and the launch angle not where he needed it to be. Dalton Bar next up for the Blue Jays. [Applause] first pitch and he just misses. [Applause] Outside corner. There’s a strike. [Applause] Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Got him to go up the ladder for the K. Nothing do it for the Blue Jays. They’re down two. 7 to five. Now pitching. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Number 56, Eric Lowour. [Applause] leading off. And now the catcher comes up to him, Will Smith. He’s coming off a big swing of the bat in the eighth inning, Chris. Yeah, he may still be riding a little high and for him, hopefully the confidence is still there. It was a solo shot and a very important run in this game. [Applause] That’s in there. Going along. And that skips into there. Strike. Pitch misses there. Ball two. Two balls. Two strike. [Applause] And there’s a ball. Two strike. [Applause] Drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. And it hits the fence. Takes the turn. He’s digging for second. The relay not in time. That’s a leadoff double all over that one right there. A lot of hitters tell themselves why drive over the infielder’s head. That’s what I’m trying to do. Just keep that approach simple. And right there it was perfectly executed on time with everything and pulled it into the gap nicely. And here’s Freddy Freeman. First pitch misses. And at second ball movement in the Blue Jays bullpen. Trey Yavage up and loosening in the pen. Number 68 also getting ready. [Applause] Two foul ball. Next offering is in for a strike. Runner at second. Nobody out. This one in the air center field. Baro under this one and makes the grab. Grounder tags at second and the throws offline. Safe at third. Now batting second baseman Tommy Edmond. [Applause] And up next for Los Angeles, Tommy Edmund. You have to find a way to score the runner from third, especially with less than two outs. Wait for the pitch you want and hit it as hard as you can. Right through there for a strike. Here’s a sack fly situation. And he’s got to make sure he gets the ball out over the plate and get those arms extended. They’re trying to crowd him with the infield in. Be a big pickoff if he can push a run across. in for a strike. 0 and2 missed inside with the curb. Not close with that one. And that’s ball two. spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. So glad these ballparks have installed the netting to protect the fans, keep things safer all around the league. [Applause] [Music] This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Guerrero snags it for the second out. Now batting center fielder Teosscar Hernandez. Teoscar Hernandez the next to hit. And this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here. [Applause] There’s the strike. Smith on third with two out. Pop dump. Conor Fa and puts the squeeze on that one. And that’s the third out. One hit in the inning, but nothing more than that. 678 scheduled to start the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Dodgers seven and the Blue Jays five. And here’s the closer to try and finish off game one. Christopher Su. And I can’t imagine any save is an easy one. You’re holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best bats they can. So it’s always high stress. Let’s see what he’s got here to try and close it out. Clement leading things off and takes a strike. Now one [Applause] slice the other way. That’s a base hit. And the postseason success continues for him. Yeah, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that, but so far I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. So up next for Toronto, Addison Barger. flips the corner. That’s strike one. [Applause] In the air, left field down the line. And this one looks like trouble. Coming home. Throw is offline and he scores and it’s a one-run game. A possible mistake in the outfield thanks to the bad read and terrible timing for that to happen. That’s a play you just want to forget about. [Applause] with the tying run and scoring position in the bottom of the ninth. Isaiah Ker Faleppa next up for the Blue Jays. Freeman, he’ll do it himself. One out. Bottom of the ninth. Those plays can be tricky. They’re routine, but that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be smooth. He delivered a good play right there. He’s two outs away. And next for Toronto, Andres Jimenez. And there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd, right? I mean, yeah, I’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure. Well, comfortable or not, these are the situations closers they seem to live for. When you get into some hot water, a jam, tough spot, whatever you want to call it, but this is where they earn their key. So the tying run at second and that one is in for a strike. Blue Chase down a run. That misses the zone. It’s a ball in two strikes. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. in the dirt and it scoots away and on the wild pitch down to third goes the tying run. As a closer, he’s out there in that role for a reason, but even they lose the handle on one here and there, especially with all the nasty stuff coming out of bullpens these days. He’s making it a little interesting here. [Applause] trying to keep the game alive here in the bottom of the ninth. Battling here as he fouls it away. The two- two now on the ground to short to the plate and he’s out. Well, here we talk about how the ball is coming out of the pitcher stand. The way it comes out of his infielder. Wow. Really impressive. So, it’s their last chance in this one. And here is George Springer outfield deep here. Tried to prevent anything over their heads. And things could change quickly here with one swing. This is a great dynamic right here. Speedy runner at first, thinking about taking second. Catcher with the pop time that leaves Jaws on the floor. This might get interesting, dude. And that clips the inside corner. [Applause] And that one fouled off. Tying run at first. The winning run at the plate. [Applause] Squirts away a little bit. Nice job behind the plate there. Ser throws over Jimenez back on a dive. Well, at least you got the pitcher thinking a little bit. You don’t want to run yourself out of the ball game. You get thrown out or picked off, it’s over. S one strike away from securing game one. And a base hit right there. Jimenez around second. On his way to third. Had it well played. Tag and he’s out at the plate. Magnificent play to finish it. How about that? It ends on a play at the plate. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause]
