[Derrick] OT Esa Pole cleared waivers today and is now officially a free agent after being let go by the New York Yets yesterday. I’m told there is a strong interest on both sides for Pole to return to the Kansas City Chiefs on the practice squad.

  1. I just want to note that the misspelling was in Derrick’s original skeet and made me laugh, so I didn’t bother to correct it.

  2. Makes sense. This was likely the Chief’s plan from the start (to develop Pole on the Practice Squad). Just required a brief stopover in New York to make it happen.

Pole is raw but has really high upside. Not a guy it makes sense to use a 53 man roster spot on, he needs refinement and a red shirt year to develop. Perfect practice squad addition, and the Chiefs even had an open spot.

They were likely hoping he would clear waivers on cutdown day, but the Jets interfered. Pole’s got a lot of the raw traits you want in a developmental project. He’s got the movement and athleticism to stay outside at tackle, with a solid natural anchor and the size to play either tackle or guard. Dude just needs coaching and technique work – which he’ll get on the practice squad. Dude’s got an interesting story never played football before going to a JUCO (basketball player in high school), he’s understandably raw but has a lot of talent to build on.

  3. If he comes back to the practice squad make sure they use the mind wipe device to erase any memory of training with the jets. Would not wish being on the jets to my worst enemy 😭 (somebody save Garret Wilson)
