NHL Highlights | Maple Leafs vs. Sabres – October 24, 2025
It moves up to help kickstart Austin Matthews. No Chris Tanet, no Morgan Riley. So little extra focus on the veteran defenseman like Oliver Ecman Larson. Look at the aggressiveness though. Mermis pinching in trying to keep play alive in the offensive zone. Matthews plays it back. Here’s a shot and a total stop by Lion. Could be a physical presence each and every night. Not that easy to score. Alex Tuck back to the line. incoming and kicked away by Stolars up ahead. Another one of the forwards with one hit so far on the season. Leafs though are about mid pack as a team in hits. There’s a pass to Ryan Mloud back in front. goes Matias Samuelson the first Saber to beat Anthony Stolars in four games. This is about a Tuck on the entry. You can see changes happening. A little bit of a delay. It’s a three against one here and Tuck able to keep the puck alive. Doesn’t give it away. A little support pass and then right down the lane there. Dakota Mermis I think was a bit of a think was a bit of a screen there for Anthony Stallars but Mloud with this nice pass Samson timed it. There’s another hit by Knander. He must have been looking at that number coming in. The centering pass by Byron knocked away. Knander gets the long pass. He’s in. Breakaway scores. Return fire. 23 seconds later, the game tie to a man stretched out. Good defensive play here. The puck pops out. Albert Eman Larson do a bank pass. No. A high lob sends in. Last year had 16 breakaways, more than anyone in the National Hockey League. Scored six times. Samuelson. There’s Oslin turning getting it to Jason Zucker. That’ll rule to Stolars who covers up and he’s playing himself into a good position here. 4 and a half minutes a game penalty killing as well here. Doby hot shot right on testing Alex Lion. Mentioned Lion was second in shots faced and saves. He’s now first. He was just one behind. Here’s a chance in front. What a goal. Kick has restored the lead for Buffalo. Oh, that’s his third goal in the last five games, too. And it comes off the shoulder, but back the other way. You know, again, there’s Mermis in his first couple of game shifts of the game. And he’s been on for both goals. And it’s just the confidence of not standing up on the line. Those are the passing lanes that are wide open. And a great off the boards and out. And McMahon chases after it. Right line. It goes to the right side. Quinn here. Jack Quinn in front. Starts knocked out away. And now the Sabres turn. It’s T Thompson to the attack. Here’s Thompson holding, firing it. And Solars at the top of the crease. The Savers start to advance for the line. Cre drops it off. And that one’s fought off by Solars. Knander trying to pull away. It does. William Knander in. Stopped by Wyan. He’ll draw a penalty. Oliver Ecman Larson out of the reach of Knander in for Ny around for Tvaris. Back up top. Ecman Larson. John Tvarz. Here’s a shot. Scores. Austin Matthews. That looks familiar. And the Leafs have tied it. Boy, how many times you seen Matthews in this building from that very spot? He’s had lots of success here in Buffalo and the patience up top of Oliver Eman Larson walking this across faking like he’s going to take the shot and then a quick pass from Tavvaris. Already Tavvarz has shot three times from that area. So a quick little pitch there for Lion as a goalender. You have to respect a shot and then that’s the shot you expect from the Leaf captain. Matthews with a nine-game point streak against Buffalo and now 22 goals in 30 career games against the Sabres. Zack Metsa shooting that block. NY’s home free. Here’s Matthew Ny and Lion comes up with a big stop. Well, here’s another one. Five on five. Good block. Good speed up the ice. Lots of control there by N. Tries to pull it to the backhand. Five hole. Good save by Lion. and 14 players playing for the Blue Jays in the World Series or members of the Bisons this year, which is why there’s so much excitement even here in Buffalo about the World Series. Up ahead it goes for Benson. That’s turned over. Maybe another break for Neanderard. It’s slowed up there. Great pass, Eric. But Larson stopped by Lion. Just this no look pass on the heels of grabbing that one behind his back. Oliver Eman Larson Chris who’s been all around this game wanted by Samuelson that hit the referee and Samuelson with a second chance to make a play. Kulick sends it down the ice to Thompson over the line. Iris Thompson shooting scores off the rush. Tate Thompson his name plate. It hasn’t been a real easy offensive start for the leading goal scorer of last year’s Buffalo Sabres, but this has kind of been similar to the three goals, Chris. Those passes through the scene. A kind of nothing looking play but unable to take away the passing lane and then right on the doorstep Thompson goes short side. Zucker back in the lineup tonight for Bone. Byum dances in. Here’s Byum and the one-time by Dome. Bought off by Stoolars. Back in Krebs with the puck. K sizes it up. It’s whipped across. Samson scores. Sabres lead by two and Matias Samuelson that all over again. You got five guys back. You’re not in any panic but now two guys up tight. You allow the one pass through and another cross scene. That’s four goals that the Buffalo Sabres have been able to score on passes from one side to the other into the tight crease. And you can see Samson and it’s Josh Dome. He scores, does he? Oh, Don signal goal. I he watching a bouncing puck kind of get control of it and he ends up from this tough angle seeing that Stallars. Oh boy. Off of Mermis as well. skate to post to body to then right through the arms and out the other side of stoolars. But just a really good awareness by Josh Don that he had stolers. Look at Eastston Cowan right in front of Craig Barubi. You you get a role model like that of okay, how do you prepare? How do you eat? How do you live? It’s the offi stuff that drags a lot of people down. and taken away by Mensah. Le’s trying to get it back and it’s Nickah who does. Here’s Juan turning. Joshua in front. Loose puck scores. Dakota. Joshua has his first lead. You go to that trio and said more of the same guys. And the big body of Joshua protects it once. Nice job of Wall coming in, stripping the puck, and then in front of the net. You know, patience with the puck. Don’t panic. A rebound coming back. I think Cowan’s going to get his second assist. But that’s that makeup with this line. Off the skate, off the stick, and right back to Joshua. And man, that’s got to feel good. I think he was trying to get it to Knander, but the cave now will try and get back. Here comes Buffalo over the line. Sucker drops with Sucker. Oh, what a stop. Stolars his best of the night. Back the other way goes Elander with one of his best of the night to make sure it’s just a onegoal lead. 808 left in the third. Tvaris at the line and here’s Quinn made the step fur and still again Timmons away and here’s Timmons ahead over the line. T Thompson shooting and stopped and a rebound that slides past the Kentucky Larson and that pass cut off and Buffalo out with Tuck going to the net. Scores shortanded Alex Tuck Alex save there on the off of two good passes. This has been a minute 35 here for all five guys. Nothing left in the tank. Good patience there by Power to just throw it to an area. Taku’s fresh back. He had Malenstein trying to come out. He’s a way back to the bench. One last draw one by Tvaris. Over.
Mattias Samuelson got his first two goals of the season for the Buffalo Sabres while Tage Thompson added a goal and an assist as the Sabres beat the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Stolarz making save after save but still loose. WTF
as a rangers fan this makes me not feel so alone
I knew TO would lose.
If buffalo keeps playing like this, they might make the postseason!!! What a game and I ain’t even a buffalo fan but GO BUFFALO
Sabres at 500 after an abysmal start!
Sabres, супер матч!!! Поздравляю!!!
Toronto va bien.. 😅
If you ever feel ridicule or embarrassed, remember that Toronto Maple Leafs fans exist.
who cares about the leafs… LET'S GO BLUE JAYS!
laffs
Leafs don't look like a playoff team. I know too early but I don't see 2 good lines and Matthews misses the playmaker.
we need picks,we need first round youngster that help the future of toronto.
Gotta say , Sabres looking good , so are Islanders … Rangers in a nosedive
It's a transition year for the Maple Leafs. They haven't filled Marner's spot. Made worst that McDavid signed a 2 year contract who would've easily filled that spot twice over.
Leafs needs to get rid of Calle Järnkrok, Morgan Rielly, and Nick Robertson asap!
I didn't come here for the highlights, I came here to check out leaf fans comments.😊
Missing Marner yet?
These guys suck. Arent going to make the playoffs
Buffalo is better than they're given credit for. They'll probably finish ahead of the Leafs this year.
And this team threw Marner under the bus…
So, what's the excuse now? What lame ass excuse is it this time? Blah blah blah.
Go Blue Jays Go! There is a team to look up to
As a Sabres fan… glad we won… but where are our hits? We are lucky we won this game
Steve is going to have a fun one with this game.
I unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) missed the game tonight, but man. From this video alone, it looks like Mermis got absolutely torched tonight. He was on the ice for every goal and chance against
1:21 / 2:30 Everyone puck watching. Zero physicality and no taking the man. Leafs = house league hockey
Laughing stock of NHL. Since 67
Leafs should considee tanking. Rebuild. Window has closed?
To all the trolls and people celebrating leafs struggles: no i as a leafs fan Do Not miss Marner. And i am ok if leafs dont make the playoffs. Culture needs to change. Have to start sometime
go Sabres, from your fan in Shanghai!!
The Leafs look so slow. Other teams are skating circles around them. This team has been outplayed in just about every game.
Go Sabres..
Addition through subtraction right leafs fans?
How many breakaways did Sabres give?
New Sabres goal song?
Screw this organization. They traded the wrong guy.
