Two Positives From Steelers Loss to Bengals

There is good news that came out of this game and I’m not going to ignore it. Okay. Aaron Rogers, and I’ll repeat myself, did everything in his power, everything humanly possible, including getting tackled by Roger Jones that we’ll react to here in a moment to save the Pittsburgh Steelers from the curse of Mike Tomlin and Thursday Night Football. He did everything he possibly can. I don’t think the DJ Turner thing was an interception. I’m sorry. I watched that replay a hundred times. I just don’t understand how there was inconceivable evidence that that was an interception because that just it didn’t make sense to me at all. If the knee got down, I get it, but I didn’t see the knee get down. I understand the rule there. I’m not saying, “Oh, you can’t rip the ball.” No, that’s all there. I thought he landed out of bounds. I was very convinced that he landed out of bounds. The one pass to DK was awful, but Aaron was vintage Aaron in this one. doing everything in his power to keep the Pittsburgh Steelers alive, ripping, smelling salts, and throwing should have been game-winning touchdowns to TJ or to uh Pat Fry, excuse me. Jaylen Warren looks unbelievable. Unbelievable. You average 7.6 yards a carry over 15 rushes and you’re averaging 7.6 yards. That’s unheard of. That is not a thing in the NFL that happens. Jaylen Warren looked ridiculous. And you should never ever ever have a running back that averages more than seven yards a carry and lose a football game. But I’m gonna I I mean if you are looking at the and I I’m a believer. I think the Steelers are still very much so alive this season. Not giving up on this team yet. I think the offense looked crazy and it was a building block to say this offense, this offense could be good because they look good. Aaron looked good and Jaylen looked good and the offensive line looked fun because they looked real good again outside of Brick Jones tackling his own quarterback and a touchdown celebration. And that’s to me that’s signs of life that you could take away from this one and say all right, you know, wasn’t all bad because you put up 31 points and you do what they did. I think it’s I think it’s a sign that it’s something you could take away with and say the next time gives them a better chance to win. Yes. Yeah. 100%. I think what the Steelers offense I think is unquestionably is they’re they’re good enough to you know help to do their part. I think is the best way that I want to say this. They are I don’t think they’re like ever going to be electric and explosive. I think you know 250 passing yards and you make up the rest on the ground like that is going to be the recipe for success for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I think it kind of for me it sort of tells me that maybe this is a little bit of confirmation bias. I’m sure you might think so, but it kind of reaffirms this belief that I’ve had for months now about whenever they are doing this offense and it’s operating correctly, the need for that splash playmaking wide receiver too doesn’t feel as apparent. doesn’t feel as emergent. Uh it doesn’t feel like it is the number one thing moving forward. Whenever the offensive line is able to protect Aaron Rogers, you see what he can do. You see how he’s able to extend plays in in a very uh a fashion that is very familiar to a lot of Pittsburgh Steelers fans. And so I think it’s an offense that does its part, can do what it’s supposed to to help win games as long as the defense is doing it. Now, I don’t think it’s it’s ever going to be the savior of this team in the way that this defense is supposed to be, but I think again it can do its part and it can do just enough to help win uh a division, to help win 11 or 12 games, possibly still to help win a playoff game maybe too, you know. So, I I think that is continuing to be confirmed. The the case for that is continuing to be built. Um, and Aaron Rogers is is the sole reason because of that. the offensive line is is paving the way as well, but Aaron Rogers has just been, you know, the the blessing in the in disguise for the Steelers offense this year. Yes. Yes. Yes, he was. And and what he’s opened up is is insane. And and the ability to work with Arthur Smith because I don’t want to overlook that. I I think that this is the first time Arthur Smith has a quarterback that he looks at since showing up in Pittsburgh saying, “I can actually do things with this guy. Look at it. If the Steelers can figure out the defensive side of the football, which is a tall task, let’s be honest, a tall task. If they can do it, and be able to man up teams, which is nuts because you you shut down Justin Jefferson and Jordan for the most part, but Jamar Chase and T. Higgins couldn’t do it for you. I just I don’t it just doesn’t make sense to me. Luckily, the playoffs don’t happen on Thursday nights. And I I truly think that if you put Aaron Rogers in a position to win a football game, he’s going to do everything in his power to win that football game. And and he gives you a shot. And the Steelers haven’t had that shot in a long time. That that like like, hey, this is a shootout and we could walk away. The Steelers should not have won. They shouldn’t even come close to winning that game last night, you know? Like it should have they should have lost by 10. and instead Aaron Rogers comes down and says, “I’m going to throw a ridiculous pass to Pat Frier 40 yards down the field. I’m going to put it in a window that’s this big 40 yards down the field for Pat to catch it.” And I I truly believe that uh that Aaron gives you a shot. And if Jaylen and this running game continue to build the way that they are, I mean, the only bad thing is that he’s on my bench in my fantasy football league.
