The defense is old, slow and has 0 puck movers outside of morgan reilly. The forward group is a complete mess with guys like max domi who he extended and other bums who do NOTHING. His trades of carlo and laughton have to be some of the worst in recent memory and have fucked this team for years to come because of the first rounders tossed in the trash for them etc etc. Gargage GM.

Guess what, sometimes players just don’t perform and that should sometimes be on the players. He has the ability to makes changes and will do if things don’t turn around. I would be more worried if the leafs had a bunch of garbage contracts but they do not.
The only thing that has really changed is marner. We got some good depth guys over the off season , I have no idea how one guy changes the effectiveness of a roster this much , the guys are just playing like ass and it’s mind blowing.
Good news is ,tre has the go ahead to go after a top player before the trade deadline and you know he’s going to get someone effective at this point .

He was not the person the franchise should have let go, and I’ll die on that hill. They should have got rid of Nylander or Matthews first. Marner elevated any line he was put on, has great defensive metrics and was an elite pker. It’s funny to me that alot of the fan base blames him, when look at how crap they are without him.
Then take a look at how Vegas is first and second in every metric so far in season, despite almost not making the playoffs last season. Actually, just go watch any of Vegas’ game, and look how good Marner plays when other people on his line aren’t dragging him down.

Here’s who I really want to hold responsible – the morons in the fanbase who kept demanding more plugs in the lineup.

Shanahan and Dubas screwed this team up. Never should have signed Tavares — that just blew up the salary structure and added a player they just didn’t need. Dubas gave in to players’ salary demands too easily. They could have been real contenders if they weren’t forced to scavenge from the bargain bin to fill out the roster. Tavares’ money should have been used on a legit no. 1 goalie or defenceman — can’t tell you how many years I’ve been saying the Leafs need an actual top defenceman because Morgan Rielly isn’t, nor ever was, it.
But yeah, Leafs look too big, too slow, with not enough depth, and there’s something wrong with Matthews. Painted into a corner by Shanny and Dubie, and Treliving is finishing the job with some slapdash work of his own. How Dubas is getting paid millions to run the Penguins is beyond me. Guy has never won anything at the NHL level.
