The boy is getting into collecting and going through my old cards. These names bring back any memories?

These were in my common boxes.

Bill Landrum was at my Sr. Legion All Star try outs at Three Rivers Stadium, when walking off the field after making a terrible error due to never playing Astroturf. He pulled me aside and said “I hope to see you out there professionally one day.” I really appreciated that comment, it helped me lock in and forget about the error. Good dude, he didn’t have to do that.
Don Slaught and Jay Bell were big names. Redus was a hopeful that didn’t pan out. I recall Landrum being ok.
Awesome ! As a kid I use to pc Andy Van Slyke and later Al Martin. I just got back into card collecting this year after 30+ years (Thank you Paul Skenes). Card collecting values have skyrocketed except for the junk wax era not that I have my cards when I was a kid and man the cards today look so cool. Was a big fan of Randy Tomlin too! Value wise in today’s card market you should buy singles of cards you want but I can’t help myself from time to time buying packs because it makes me feel like a kid again
My first favorite baseball player, Don Slaught!
So many baseball Randys back in the day
Jay Bell was my favorite. I named my Pirates troll doll after him. I took it and a train whistle to games at Three Rivers for good luck. I yelled “Hit me a ball, Jay Bell!” whenever he was at bat.
I had those!
I somehow remember the day that Jay Bell was acquired. The local newspaper (Butler Eagle) had a snippet about it and his stats were bleak. I remember being hopeful anyway that they had finally found a shortstop. I was 9. Him growing into a good player while seeing that scrappy team become what they were from ‘90-‘92 was what sentenced me to 30 years of broken hearts.
