General Manager Patrik Allvin Media Availability (Oct 24, 2025)

Hi Patrick. Um, can you just sort of fill us in on sort of how this all played out? I know you’re dealing with a lot of injuries. You know, how much is this move just kind of predicated by the fact that you need NHL centers right now? Yeah. Uh, definitely something that we had we felt here uh over the last uh well two games when we got uh when we played in Pittsburgh and uh Nashville that uh we wanted to see if we can find something that can help us with a little bit more experience. uh the familiarity here with Kevin Dean being in Chicago over the last three years and um obviously Lucas a younger player would uh that was picked in the first round and or so drafted in the first round and had provide uh played center in the in the American Hockey League hasn’t played as much center uh in Chicago here early on in his career but uh uh we definitely see the experience that he have and and the acquis acquisition cost for us was intriguing here to make this move uh today. And then you know we see Teddy Bluger going on IR and you know I can recognize that’s about roster spot but is there concern about Teddy uh being available to play you know in the short term long term here? Yeah, I I got an update here from our doctor earlier this morning and I would uh would have uh Teddy is more week to week more so I would I would imagine more more towards this two week uh but uh it was in intriguing um update here this morning on it. Trevor Banks, Daily Hive. All right, gentlemen. We’re not picking you up, so we’re going to go back to Patrick Johnston. Uh yeah, Patrick, just with just sorry, did one more on Teddy. I mean, is this is this a new injury or is this a recurrence of what he was dealing with before? No, this is uh this is a new injury. It wasn’t anything that that were recurrence from his uh missing the first couple games that happened in the game there in Washington. Uh, and then so back to Riel, I mean, you know, you mentioned when he was drafted, obviously, you know, that range of pick, you never quite know how they’re going to shake out, but is this a player that, you know, you’ve been interested in for a while? I mean, was he a guy that was on your list, say, when you were in Pittsburgh, for instance? Yeah, definitely. Uh, I was fortunate to to see him uh playing in Berlin there uh his his draft year. appreciated his uh his competitiveness, his skill set and and his ability to skate over the time. You’ve been waiting to see if this guy would be able to take it take it to the next level and establish himself as an NHL player. Um, it’s been an occur like it’s been for most of the young players a little bit of an up and down and and until you establish yourselves, but you can see the skill set and you can see the the speed in his game and um even in the summer this was was a player that we talked about that, you know, potentially tracking to see if he didn’t find his level in Chicago, could it be a change of senior type of player? Uh, obviously talked to Kevin Dean here since he got hired on some of the players that potentially could be available and and we continue to talk about Lucas and what what Kevin had to say about him and obviously like him as a person and character too. So, uh, we’re excited to to get him in here and continue to work with him. We’ll try Trevor Begs again. Hi there, Patrick. Can you hear me? Yeah, I can hear you now, Trevor. Perfect. Uh, I’m curious. You mentioned it earlier, Lucas Reichel hasn’t played a lot of center in Chicago. Uh how confident are you that he can play center here for the Vancouver Conucks? Well, we definitely believe that he has the the ability to do it here and and we’ll definitely give it a a try here. Uh I mean, again, I think it’s it’s our job as as an organization and uh with with our coaches and the develop staff development staff we have. it’s our job to help him to take his game to the next level. Uh what intrigues us is is as I said this the speed coming through the neutral zone and and his skill level there and those are the things that that uh um makes us excited about him and and he’s still young so I believe there is there is more to come. Fantastic. And curious as well for an update on Philip Heedle. Yeah, I I obviously you go through the protocols here. Uh I I mean uh he’s been home here. He left uh with our doctor uh from Washington on Monday. So he’s uh he’s making making progress, but but obviously not uh not clear and you you got to go through the the all the stages here uh where he is. Uh but it’s been some some encouraging progress here. We’ll try Tyson Cole Kucks Army. Thanks. I think I got it working now. Patrick, can you hear me? Yeah, I can hear you. Awesome. Uh, just Lucas has played mostly uh his NHL career on the wing. Where do you kind of envision him in this lineup? Well, that’s something here. We got we got uh, you know, the very condensed schedule here. We got two games in two nights here right away without practice time. So, uh, but that being said, uh, the familiarity with with Kevin Dean on our staff and, uh, what he’s done in the American League in the past, um, drafted as a center as well. So, we’ll we’ll give him a shot here, uh, tomorrow, uh, if he, if he gets in here tonight, uh, and, uh, we continue to go from there. And, you know, with the all the injuries that have piled up, are you still hoping to add another piece to your lineup? we uh we’ll continue to to see uh what’s what’s out there, but I think that’s something uh we always are looking to see how we improve our our team and and uh we’re fairly early into the season here and uh obviously every team is going through some some adversity at some points uh and uh we’re just going to continue to look uh for for uh options to make our make our team better. Go to admin personlat the hockey news. Uh hi Patrick. So this organization when you and Jim have been around you’re you like to make your moves early uh it seems in the season. So was this uh the opportunity came up or was this a chance to just kind of refresh the group after uh the road trip? A little bit of both here. obviously the injuries that happens but also Lucas has been a name that we’ve have internally discussed here uh since since training camp uh of guys that uh or or staff has been following of potential being available there. um intriguing with a young player, the really talented one that sometimes you just need a a change of scenery and it’s our job now to to integrate air how we want to play and and continue to work with him. And on the injury front, do you have any updates about Forbert and Leer Maki? Uh Leer Macki, I would uh I would say two to three weeks. uh forbert uh had a little bit of a setback here. So I would say he’s week to week. Probably the the problem here is that we you know with a condensed schedule it’s it’s so hard to get the practice times in. So for some of those guys that that are injured just to finding the rhythm and finding the ice time it’s it’s been a challenging for us up to this point. So, uh, but I would I would, uh, probably have Forbert and more so week to week. We’ll take a followup from Trevor Begs. Patrick, you mentioned, you know, Lucas Reich needing a change of scenery. Um, and obviously you believe in the players since you’ve acquired him. Uh, but curious for you and your scouting staff, why do you guys believe it didn’t work for him in Chicago? You know what, it’s hard to me to say. Um it’s easy from sitting on the outside and and sometimes it’s just a numbers game too. Um we all know that that all those young players and the pressure there is on them and opportunities to play and and Chicago has a lot of younger players there. Um so that being said, I I you know, we recognize the skill set and the talent here and uh we’re we’re excited to continue to work with Lucas. And Patrick, now that you’re back from the road, eight games into the season, just curious for your thoughts on the performance from the club so far. Yeah. Um I think we uh have been a little bit inconsistent. Uh in part of to that is the last couple games uh being depleted. Uh um and also early on we missed Teddy uh Teddy Beluga there on a PK. I think there’s a lot of positives uh indications of how we want to play and and when when we’re playing to our identity and we’re playing fast and playing as a as a unit of five. Um there is signs that we played uh really good hockey. Um the games uh the games against u Dallas and Washington uh was two games uh that I was really pleased with. But I also think even last night uh I you know we we had our chances on the power play. We weren’t able to execute but uh there were still signs that we’re still in the game. But I think uh the parent of the league nowadays you got to find ways to execute. You want to find ways to take care of the special teams and and if you do, you’re you’re having a chance to get a

  1. Things look positive sir 🙏 we can get healthy and go for a big run @nothingisperfect would love you to have you on during the intermission to shed some light on your plans when everyone is healthy keep up the good work and great job acquiring Lucas this should bolster our top 6

  2. Yo Patrik, how are you doing? What is the game plan to get Petey to start scoring again? I say we hire Bret Hull as a part-time coach for him. He wouldn't do it for a $100K?

  3. Honestly im surprised Chicago gave up on a guy that was so highly touted for so cheap. I remember just a few years ago Patrick Kane saying how high he was on Reichel. There must be a good reason why Chicago cut bait for so cheap. Interesting to see how this pans out.

  4. This guy gonna get canned soon enough. Our depth at forward/center ice is thinner than his hair. Hes Rutherford's hand puppet, and takes most of his orders from a semi senile 80 year old man. The trades and usage of resources has been baffling. Another small eurocentric dude to play Center, who is a career 40% on faceoffs, and has been playing left wing for the past 18 months. Good job.

  5. Explain to me why we traded Podz to bring in Heiman and Spring cough neither in the NHL this year. And trade Joshua for nothing to bring in Kane and O'Connor. Podz and Joshua are cheaper and better than Kane and O'Connor

  6. I was perfectly fine with it when the team traded away tons of picks and prospects to the Alberta teams for a short term run at the cup, and now I share in the dog days of paying for it by watching a pretty mediocre product in the aftermath. Hopefully they pull a rabbit out of their hat and fix center so they can keep Hughes, because losing Hughes would be the ultimate price for that short term strategy.
