“A Huge Save Can Turn Momentum” | Lindy Ruff Praises Buffalo Sabres Goaltender Alex Lyon After Win

Make it quick. Ball games on. Lindy, uh, you guys took the penalty with less than five minutes left, but you got through it. Actually scored a goal because of it and, you know, were able to defend a onegoal lead, which I’m sure is is something that you’re very proud of. Yeah, I I liked our third period. I mean, uh, you a little careless on that first goal again. Got out muscled around net front. Uh, but I thought we were playing the period the right way. We we had three or four really good looks. Like I say, we threw one out that uh could have cost us. We got a huge save before we got the short-handed goal. Um and but I think we’ve talked about it. A huge save can turn momentum for you and and you know, Tuck goes down and scores a heck of a goal for us. 25 30 minutes. You were the faster team in that game against them. Just what does that say about the way your guys are playing at both ends of the ice here these last five games? Well, we’re we’re really trying to play with a lot of pace. Uh, a lot of our focus is moving the puck quicker, getting it up quicker. Uh, Ford’s getting out of the zone quicker and ready to go, ready to go north in a hurry. And we scored, you know, I thought we scored a couple really pretty goals. Um, but we still had lots of opportunities around netfront. Uh, you know, Don’s netfront that rattled off a post or crossbar, whatever. We still had point shots that we had people around the net. Um, we’re we played a good I mean, we played a good game. Matias Danielson, what has he done to be effective and to be productive, particularly tonight. Uh, you know, he’s he’s healthy. He’s a big man. He skates well. He he really shoots the puck well. Um, I think a lot of people know that, but um he’s helped us in all areas. He’s been great on the PK, him jumping in, um, you know, helping create offense, finishing those plays. I mean, two great goals on on his part, but playing against the big lines all the time. His physicality has been really good. Um, he he’s really played well for us. Knowing the right time to jump in, is that one of the things you asked him to do maybe to improve on is knowing, hey, this is the time to jump in and you can help the offense. You know, I think it’s a it’s a read, but we’ve we have stressed we need a fourth guy. Um, you know, we made a mistake. We we made a mistake on on the one kneeander uh with with both D. Uh the first breakaway was because Kak left the ice and nobody really knew as we were going up ice. He would have been a high guy for us on that play and we didn’t get anybody out there. Uh but our D have been really good about getting involved at the right time. Uh we do have to eliminate, you know, a few of the the breakaways that we’ve given up in these last two games, but to create what we created, our our D were a big part of it tonight. An update on Tyson. He’s going to miss tomorrow for sure. He’ll uh you know, he’ll get imaging and stuff and we’ll find out, you know, how long it’s going to be. As far as Taige goes, I mean, he looked close to breaking out and he got rewarded tonight. I mean, were you confident that he was going to get going here? Yeah, you know, I think probably had a little frustration uh the other night. I thought tonight did a lot of good things and uh you know, set up the one goal. Uh scored a heck of a goal. Um you know, when you’re getting chances every night, you know, with his shot, he’s going to score. Uh was a little bit snake bit. Uh but tonight we needed our our big guys to come through. He came through. Tucky came through for us. You know, you look at uh Sammy and the way he played on the back end and I thought Bo had a good good night skating the puck, too. Well, you have to bring one of the Amirs with you probably. Yeah, probably. Yeah. Thson’s line has found a groove here because they they’re really clicking. Yeah. Well, it was a good, like I said, it was a good line for us last year. um a line that played against all the top lines. I thought um a little a little bit with the puck. Uh he fought it for a little while, but uh I thought he really battled hard defensively and then there was a few times he you know just with Will skated pucks out of the zone. Seems like he got the message as most of your players have about being there for teammates. I mean it seems like he’s always there for teammates. Now he may not win the wrestling match, but he’s there. Everybody has to be there. You’re right, Paul. And I think we we understand that as a group. It it has been a it’s been a a group effort every night in every scrum and in any situation. And these guys are are coming together as a group.
