NFL Insider LINKS The Saints To A QB Trade! New Orleans Saints Rumors + Q&A

[Music] Coming up, we’re going to get into some rumors here on Saints Now by Chat Sports. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler linked the Saints to a Russell Wilson trade and then we’re going to get into the Golden Gang mailbag. We do this every single live show. And if you guys want to join us live during the week, make sure you turn on your notifications. But also, programming reminder, we’ll be live on game day. Saints take on the Bucks at 3:05 p.m. Central time. We’ll be live at 2 pm Central time. So, join us here for the best watch party in the best game day atmosphere in the entire world. Now, I want to start this conversation off by saying one thing and making one thing explicitly clear. I don’t want to trade for Russell Wilson. I think it would be a bad idea. I think it would be a stupid idea. And quite frankly, I think if the Saints wanted a veteran quarterback presence, they would have already added that. But Jeremy Fowler of ESPN recently put out an article ranking 25 candidates that could be dealt by the November 4th trade deadline. Russell Wilson was one of the players listed. And here’s what he had to say. At the stage of this, at this stage of Wilson’s career, compensation would not be steep. His days as a productive starter appear to be over. He has a tradefriendly base salary of $2 million. Look, Russell Wilson’s not an upgrade. Russell Wilson is not going to help this team out. At most, Russell Wilson could be the veteran quarterback presence that could help teach Rattler/Shuck how to be a professional quarterback, how to be a successful leader, how to get to the top of the mountain in the National Football League. But again, I don’t think that the Saints would want to do this. I think that if they were to add a quarterback, veteran quarterback presence, they would have already done that. And I do believe that the Saints have a lot of faith in their quarterback situation led by the coaching staff of Doug Nosmeer, Kellen Moore, and Scott Tolsey. So, I will say maybe a veteran quarterback presence will be something the Saints add whenever they decide whether or not they’re going to roll with Chuck or Rattler for the long term. But for right now, I have zero interest in trading for a quarterback. I have zero interest in making a trade in general. If I’m doing any sort of trades, it’s offloading players and getting picks back. I’m not sending picks away for a player. That just doesn’t make any sense to me. And if you were to trade for Russell Wilson, like, okay, fine. trying a seventh round pick, but you don’t have a seventh round pick this year. And I don’t think you have a No, you have three seventh round picks next year, right? Either way, I’m still not trading. Either way, Jeremy Fowler, he also said that this trade has a 10% chance of happening. He named the Raiders and the Saints as two destinations for the Giants to potentially trade Russell Wilson. Now, you could do a player player trade. You could do something like that. Again, I have no interest in doing it. You can sit here and say this is clickbait. can sit here and say that I post this nonsense all the time. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN linked it. I wanted to give you my take. I wanted to explain why this was a bad idea and why I wouldn’t do this and why it’s a silly thing for the Saints to do. So, this is not at all anything that I have any interest in doing. I am simply just giving you my take on it. Now, who would you like to be the QB1? You wanted to be Russell Wilson. I don’t know why. Feel free to let me know, but air it out in the comments if you think Spencer Rattler or Tyler Shuck should be QB1. Share your thoughts as well. Type the initials of the quarterback you want to see take over for the New Orleans Saints offense. Now, we’re going to get into the mailbag portion of this video. The Golden Gang has some heat. Keep that highiny shiny with a tushy today. Trust me, you won’t regret it. First question coming in from my guy Jay Danny Stsman needs to start over Pete Warner. Um, I actually do believe Pete Warner is a player who could be dealt at the trade deadline. Um, a few guys come to mind. Wernern, maybe Taylor, Carl Granderson. I wouldn’t mind moving Brandon Cooks. Like, there’s a handful of guys out there that could be dealt. Um, I think that this is a very big factor. Danny Stutzman needs to start with You’re starting to see the snap count increase and the usage of Danny Stsman increase each week, and he’s starting to take more and more snaps. And fun fact, this past week against the Bears, he did not have as many snaps as Pete Warner, but he had more production than Pete Warner. So, for what it’s worth, I totally agree with you. Danny Stsman, friend of the show. Steve, friend of the show. We’ve had them both on for a an interview in training camp. Highly encourage you to go check it out. It was an awesome conversation. Um, I’m a dirty little stut, so the quicker we see stsmen on the field, the quicker I’m a happy camper. CTM, what is your dream trade? Pete Warner for a first round pick. That’s my trade because then you don’t have to get rid of a you don’t have to get rid of Shahed. You don’t have to get rid of any of the valuable veterans and you get way overcompensated for a player that you know I’m going to say just like we talked about with Danny Sutton’s kind of getting replaced and kind of getting worked out already. Lopez, what do you think? Dream trade. I’ll go a little bit more realistic. It won’t be as real. It will remember that one that we were talking about before we went live with the Bills and the Saints. Yes. that got that Bills Twitter. It was so it was for the one that you’re talking about for reference. The Bills receive Chris Olive. The Saints receive a 2026 first, a 2026 I thought it was a second and two/3. Oh, was it was Yes, it was a second and two/3s. So, a 2026 2nd, a 2026 third, and a 2027 third. So, 1 second, two third round picks for Crystal. I think that’s just some value that you wouldn’t be able to turn down. Yeah. Is it realistic? Probably not. I don’t see the Bills offering that much. But if you get that offer, you you Yeah. Pack OB’s back. If we’re trading Pete Warner for a first here, might as well trade for three for a second. Yeah, might as well. Look, again, it’s not realistic, but it’s a dream trade, so it doesn’t have to be realistic. Be exactly whatever we want because it’s my dream and I’m the only one sleeping here. Actually, that’s anyway. You know what I mean, Donovan? It’s going on, brother. Um, honest take. I know Rattler might not be the option, but down or but to downplay his growth from last year to this year is crazy. Yes, he still has an accurate times, but he looked way better. Okay. On honest take. I know Rattler might not be the option, but so I don’t I don’t know if you’re saying like I’m taking saying he isn’t looking better. I’m not I don’t think that’s what you’re saying. I totally agree with you. Spencer Rattler looks immensely better in year two than he did in year one. Like you can seriously uh see that secondyear step that he’s taken. He’s gotten better protecting the football. He’s gotten better at using his legs. He’s gotten better at limiting the sacks. So, I totally agree with you. I think Rattler has been better. I also will say I want to see Tyler Shuck play because the Saints do a top 50 pick on him. And I think that it’s not a crazy concept to say I want to see a quarterback taken to the top 50 get on the field at some point. I know it’s so so outlandish to say, but I I do agree with you. Spencer Rattler has been solid. He hasn’t been the reason the Saints have lost games. He also hasn’t really been the season the reason the Saints have won any games this year. So even in the Saints win against the Giants, he only had one touchdown and the Saints only found the end zone once. So like my point being special teams and defense is what really won that game. I think that Spencer Rattler is continuing to grow. This week is going to be a really big opportunity to bounce back from adversity where he had four turnovers against the Bears. Three interceptions, one fumble. This is a really good chance for him to bounce back and show that he has grown and he isn’t just going to crumble under the pressure. It’s a divisional matchup. Uh really excited to see this one against the Bucks. I love football. What’s going on, man? Trisian Lopez, if you were the Saints, would you draft a linebacker just in case anything happens to Deario? Uh, I yes, because you have to plan for life after Deario Davis, no matter what. Uh, injury, trade, anything like that. He’s going to retire at some point. You do need to plan for that. You also need to plan for life after Cam Jordan. Um, so that’s something you need to do. You also needed to plan for life after Tyron Matthew. You drafted Yona Sinker. I think you still need another Whoop, sorry. Another safety in that regard. Dropped my water bottle. Um, I would say if you can go and get David Bailey out of Texas Tech or you can get Arll Reese, is that that’s his name? I believe the Ohio State linebacker, like one of those two would be unbelievable. I would love that in New Orleans playing alongside Danny Stzman. Sign me the f up. Hunter Padet, if the Saints get a top three pick and they decide Rattler’s are guys, should we trade down and get two first round picks in the second and get a difference wide receiver? If you get two first in a second, yes, trade down like which I think if depending on who wants to go up that can fluctuate where the value is depending on how high they have to jump. Um, if you’re a top three pick and you want to roll with Rattler or you want to roll, the conversation is still the same with Chuck by the way. Um, if you feel like you have your franchise quarterback, I don’t necessarily know if the Saints do feel that way, but if you feel that way, then yes, I would trade down and get more draft picks. Um, or I would take a Caleb DS or Ruben Bane or something like that to try to get the best of the best available. Like you’re the goal is not to have a top three pick. If you have the opportunity to take a top three pick, sure, trading it is valuable and you can get a bunch of extra picks and I think that would be smart. But I also don’t hate the idea of grabbing the best guy who’s going to make the biggest impact and your biggest spot of weakness immediately like that. And that’s what you can get in a top three selection. Lopez, what do you think? In the moment, I would be a little upset. I think if they traded down out of a top three pick because it just be like all that hype throughout the draft process, be like, “Damn, I really wanted this guy.” Yeah. If you’re going to trade that pick, do it in like February. or like do it at the end of Feb, do it in March, something like so that way we know it’s like, okay, we don’t have the third overall pick because I will get excited about a Ruben Bane K. Yeah, it’s gonna be it’s going to be hard to be like, oh damn, we don’t get one of them now. Yeah, you don’t get one of the guys. Yeah, especially if we’re getting two first. It’s probably going to be like a mid mid first rounder and then like a first year. So, we’d be getting kind of in the same draft range that we’ve been in the past couple years. Like, it’s it would be hard to see us straight out of a top three pick in my opinion. I I don’t disagree. call it selfish, but no, I don’t I don’t disagree. Tired of picking in the middle. Yeah, I you know, pick 12 not going to be as effective as a third overall pick. Just, you know, at least in on paper and make correct. That’s the other thing. Mickey Lumis notorious bad draft classes over the last few years. This past year, it’s actually seems like it’s going to be okay. Get ready to get another guy to UTSA. Oh my god. Yeah, just start learning Road Runner, buddy. Don’t do anything stupid. feeling this. Let’s just I I don’t care what we do. Just don’t don’t do anything stupid. Jaden, Trac Lopez, get back on screen, brother. Would y’all trade Justin Reed now or in the offseason and draft Caleb DS in the 2026 draft? Yes or no? Um, I think y’all are not going to like my answer. I’m gonna say no because I think part of the reason Yonas Sanker is playing well is because there has been quality veterans around him and I think if you lose a quality veteran it could hurt the development of the player next to him. I think there’s a world where you can have all three of them and rotate them or use them in different situations to be honest. Like I don’t know if you feel any different. Like I I wouldn’t mind it. Like I went on record I would I wouldn’t mind it but I I think there’s a world where you can have all three of them. I think if I had to rank like the option that there are number one would be just draft Caleb DS and keep Justin Reed. Yeah, we’ll figure it out. Number two would be draft Caleb DS. Then I guess we have to get rid of Justin Reed. Sure. I would love to walk away with Caleb DS. Basically, that would be like number three option is like I don’t like we don’t get Caleb down. That would be like the least favorable in my opinion. Yeah. Well, and even if Justin Reed is still around and he’s not the starter over Caleb DS one, it gives the ability to not rush Caleb DS to the field as a starter. You can know you throw Justin Field out week one, two, three, whatever. Or if it’s Jonas Sega, whatever. You can have your best two out of those three players on the field. The other thing to think about is Justin Reed is still valuable as a backup if he is a veteran presence. He’d be one of the best backup safeties. Yes, he would be if not the number one backup safety in the league. He would be a very valuable veteran presence. God forbid there’s an injury there. You plug you plug him in immediately and he’s making an impact. So, I think there’s a world where all three of these get to stick around to be totally honest. Scott, what’s going on, brother? What do you think about Denzel Boston, Malachi Lemon, and Chris Ave wide receiver trio? Um, to be totally honest, I don’t know a ton about Denzel Boston or Malachi Lemon. I’m just not the Washington kid, right? 64209. I do like his size. Three giggity. 34 catches, 515 yards, six touchdowns. Um, I like the size for Denzel Boston. What’s the other one? Malachi Lemon. Um, looks like you guys want me to start my draft, bro. That’s that’s what I’m getting out of this. or Mai Lemon, excuse me. Um, wide receiver out of USC, 48 catches, 758 yards, six touchdowns, 5’11, 195 pounds. I wouldn’t hate it. I would rather have a if I had to pick two of the three. Denzel Boston, Chris Ave. That’s what I would prefer. Nothing against Ma Lemon, but um I need some more size. Needs more size. I think what also hurt this is these are going to be some of the top receivers in the draft. So, you’re going to be using two high-end picks and you have a lot more holes in your roster than just receiver. Yeah. So, I could see one the Matt. Yeah, I’d be happy with one. See, I like how you answer that because I went from a Madden perspective. If I’m just going to put them off and put them on here, like just swap in, swap out, sure, but I like your perspective of like, no, but how you acquire these players is actually unrealistic. like you you would have to like if you traded back in round one to you could potentially do this, but you need more than just two wide receivers. You need tight end, you need interior offensive line, you need edge rusher, you need linebacker, you need DB, you might need quarterback, you need probably some running back help. God, you could use a kicker. Like I Lopez, I actually really like how he answered that. He nailed it. Shout out to Lopez on this one. Scott, I appreciate your question. My answer will be I’d rather have Denzel Boston, Rasheed Shahed, and Crystal Lave as that wide receiver trio. Appreciate you guys for hanging out with us in our mailbag portion of today’s live show. 1. Saints need a real veteran QB to show the youngsters, not some has-been that had his own office and didn't associate with his team. There's a reason Payton stripped this entitled child of all this then shipped him out while eating that huge contract. NO RUSSELL WILSON

  2. Trizzy I love y’all but I need y’all to move the ‘main’ fader up or something. Got my phone and speaker turned all the way up and I can barely hear y’all!

  3. No to a Wilson trade. See what we have in Shough after the bye, if there’s nothing there, draft a quarterback in the first round, especially if we end up with a top 3-5 pick. Nuss,Mateer,Chambliss, ect.
