HUGE Miami Dolphins Trade Rumors On Minkah Fitzpatrick Before NFL Week 8

[Music] We got some Miami Dolphins trade rumors to discuss before NFL week 8 gets kicked off tomorrow. I am Nick Rolloff. This is Dolphins Today by Chad Sports. We’ve talked a lot about Bradley Chub, Jaylen Phillips as potential players that could be traded, but now we’re starting to see some buzz pick up on safety Minka Fitzpatrick. Miami obviously reacquired Fitzpatrick in the trade that involved Jaylen Ramsay and John Smith going to Pittsburgh in the off season. He obviously Minka played for Miami when he was drafted in the first round in the late 2019 season and has been away. But now he’s had a good season in Miami. And with Miami struggling so much, could he potentially be a trade candidate? That’s certainly going to be a talking point between now and the November 4th trade deadline. And before we get into the action here with more on Minka, go follow us over on Instagram, dolphinsday IG. We post more short form content over there, whether it’s post reels. If you want 365247 cards of the fins outside of our YouTube content, well, that’s where you can go get it. The reason why I’m making this video on Minka Fitzpatrick is because late this week, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN in his trade rumor kind of outlook and primer, if you will, for the deadline on November 4th named Minka Fitzpatrick as a potential trade candidate. And he said teams are monitoring Fitzpatrick’s availability potentially on the deadline. And I don’t blame him. Minko, simply put, has been one of the best players on the Dolphins roster and been a top 10 safety in the NFL this season, and he’s been a top 10 safety in the NFL over the last four or five seasons. He’s been phenomenal for Miami. He’s been rock solid in run defense, 42 tackles, miss tackle rate of 15.6%, but graded out at a 75.2 grade, which ranks in the top five of the Dolphins defense. And on coverage, that’s where it’s really stood out to the most to me with Minka Fitzpatrick only allowing eight receptions on 12 targets this year. 9.5 yards per catch. Phenomenal stuff there. Only one touchdown. Has an INT. QB rating when targeted of 77.1. Like there just isn’t any doubt about it. Migaf Fitzpatrick has been elite. and you had the question cuz he had a really down season a year ago with Pittsburgh and maybe why the Steelers made him available via trade if he was on the decline. But there’s no doubt about it to me Fitzpatrick has been your best defensive player this year. I think there’s a conversation to be had between Minka and Jaylen Phillips. Obviously, another player in trade rumors heading to the deadline, but when you factor in Minka’s ability to make tackles inside the line of scrimmage and around the line of scrimmage, as well as his efficient numbers and coverage this year, and the versatility he has displayed, playing in the free safety role, playing in the box, and playing as the slot nickel corner for the Dolphins the past couple of weeks since they’ve been dealing with injuries to Jason Marshall Jr. and Cornell Armstrong. He has been your best defender, but you also have to come to the realization if you’re the Dolphins that he is approaching 30 years old. He doesn’t have many years left on his contract. And since he is a veteran, and you stink, teams are going to be interested in trading for him. And that contract certainly is interesting because his cap number this season is very, very low. But that all happened because of the contract restructure. And one more year Miami gave Minka Fitzpatrick in 2026 before the season got kicked off. He has a $15.6 million base and $18.8 million cap hit next season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2027. So Minka only has one year left on his deal. And I would have to project it’s very unlikely he ultimately resigns with Miami and extends because of the direction this franchise is heading in and Minka’s wants and needs to be a winning football player. It’s not happening in Miami right now. So let me know pin comment on today’s show. Make the call for me. Would you trade Minka Fitzpatrick before that November 4th NFL trade deadline? Let me know your thoughts. I certainly would consider it. And when I say consider it, I like I need the right trade value in return. Like I’m not going off and trading Minka just for the fun of it and getting a sixth round pick in return. No, that would just be bad business in my opinion. But if a team comes calling and offers the right type of deal to Miami, then heck yeah, I’ll be willing to trade Minka. You’d be crazy not to. And I think there would be a lot of interest around the league in Minka Fitzpatrick. These are the four teams that I’m going to highlight on today’s show and we’re going to talk about one in particular, but the 49ers, Chargers, and Vikings. All teams with a 500 or above 500 record. I know the Vikings lost on Thursday to drop their record to three and four, but as JJ McCarthy inches closer to return, they might want to add to that defense. And there’s obviously a connection between Minka and Brian Flores. That’s where Minka was phenomenal out of the gates as a young player playing for Brian Flores. But the Cowboys are the team that I think are the most intriguing here because their offense is a top five offense in the league, but their defense is bottom three. The worst defenses in the league without a question through the first seven weeks of the season have been Dallas’s, Miami, and Baltimore’s. So, the Cowboys who have an elite offense are winning games might want to add to that defense to help maybe make a push to the postseason. And if you look online on Twitter/x, Facebook, however you want to slice it, Cowboys fans have been salivating at the idea of potentially trading for Minka Fitzpatrick. The fans eye Minka as the most ideal and logical addition at the NFL trade deadline because they desperately need help in that secondary. They could use some pass rushers as well, but they need some safety play because their secondary has been the worst in football. Surprisingly, theirs have been worse than Miami. Like Miami’s defense is so bad because they’ve been able to unable to stop a nosebleleed in the run game. The secondary, even though it’s still bottom 10 in the NFL, has been better than what I’ve anticipated and it’s certainly not the biggest issue this team faces. But the social media speculation on a trade with Minka in Dallas is so fascinating to me. This is the trade idea that I’ve consistently seen. And even our Cowboys host Tom Downey sent me this. Now, I’ll admit Tom doesn’t really agree with the trade whatsoever because he thinks C Dallas is not giving up as much as they would need to, which I agree because the trade idea is Minka and Jaylen Phillips heading to the Dallas Cowboys and Trayvon Diggs going back to Miami alongside a 2026 fourth round pick. Certainly a trade idea that catches eyeballs. And I’m gonna probably tell you just in a second here. That’s not enough. But I want to quickly go over what my trade value is for these two guys right now because they are so much in the trade discussions. I think Minka Fitzpatrick, although he is getting older and only has one year left on his deal pass the season, is worth the third round pick because he has been playing at a top five safety level this season and is a top 10 safety in the NFL. And like I said, it’s not a one-year rental. You would have him for at least one year. I think Jaylen Phillips is also worth a third or fourth round pick. Conditional fourth, maybe been the best edge rusher for Miami. His advanced numbers are good. The film is solid and he’s still just 26 years old. And I know he’s had the two major injuries, but he’s getting better and better as the games progress. And I think he’s going to continue to look better and like his old self as long as he can stay on the football field. More coming up here in a second. But this episode is brought to you by Prize Picks. You and I make decisions every single day. The right decisions on Prize Picks can get you paid. So simple to play. That’s code CLNS to get $50 in lineups when you play your first $5 lineup. Price fix. It’s good to be right. As we look back at that Cowboys tradeoffer we just shared a second ago, it’s clearly not enough for the Miami Dolphins here. And maybe if they were getting a better player in return other than Trayvon Diggs, you would contemplate it because I think getting a fourth round pick in return for Phillips is relatively fair. I just would need something better than Trayvon Diggs in return for Mickey Fitzpatrick. If you looked at that trade and broke it down, you could basically just say, “All right, it’s a fourth round pick for Jaylen Phillips and it’s a Trayvon Diggs make a Fitzpatrick swap.” Well, that ain’t going to work because simply put, Trayvon Diggs is not the player that he was a couple years ago. The injuries have taken a toll on him and he is one of the worst corners in the NFL this season. He’s actually dealing with a concussion right now, but when he’s been on the field, it has been a horrific watch. a QB rating when targeted of 154.9. 158.3 is the max passer rating, by the way. So, it’s damn near perfect when opposing quarterbacks are targeting Trayvon Digs. He’s allowed three touchdowns and a 19.6 yard per catch. Unfortunately for Trayvon Diggs, dude is cooked and his contract isn’t much better. He’s got three years left on his deal past this season. all having a cap hit of at least $18.4 million in the last three years. Now, I will say this, it’s a little misleading when you look at this contract because if you cut him, there’s not a lot of dead cap. After this season, there’s only $5 million in dead cap. So, the last couple years of his deal really aren’t there. And heck, you could even cut him now after 2025 and wipe your hands clean of Trayvon Diggs. But that still goes back to my point that it’s not worth it for Miami. He’s a negative asset. Like he isn’t good on the field. You could argue I’d rather have Jack Jones and Rousul Douglas. Their numbers this year are better than Trayvon Diggs. Don’t let the name brand fool you with Trayvon Diggs anymore, folks. The contract isn’t good. You’d likely cut him after the season. So, what would be the point of bringing him into this locker room and organization? Nothing. There is no point. which is why I don’t think this would be a good idea for the Dolphins to make that trade. I would rather get picks. If the Cowboys offered me a third and a fourth round pick for Phillips and D or for Phillips and Ma, excuse me, then okay, let’s have a discussion. I don’t want no Trayvon Digs on this football team. I am standing very very firm on what I said earlier when it came to Minka’s trade value. I am not trading him unless I get a day two pick in return. Do I expect a second round pick for Minka Fitzpatrick? No. I think that’s a little bit ridiculous, but I at least need a day two pick without hesitation. Just give me a third rounder. That’s fine. Miami has two third rounders this year already. Their own and the one they got from Houston in the trade down from a year ago. Be pretty nice to have a third third round pick and just continue to stack to your draft capital and have what at that point five top 100 selections. That’d be awesome. have one first round pick, one second round pick, and three thirds. Yeah, that will help you try to fast track a rebuild and euthanize this roster, which desperately needs an ejection of young talent. Now, quickly rounding out the show on Jaylen Phillips, I would trade him for fourth. I know I said his value to me is a third or fourth round pick. Um, I think I would accept the fourth because, simply put, he’s not going to be here next season. Likely a new regime coming in. head coach GM that haven’t known Jaylen Phillips. And with him playing so well and having the injury concern, he’s going to probably try to get $15 million on the open market over two or three seasons, which I think is a fair price point for him in free agency because he has been good in the run game and rushing the quarterback. I just don’t think Miami should pay that with limited cap space right now in 2026 and so many needs on the roster. This doesn’t make any sense to me. So, assuming he’s not here, I would take a fourth round pick. But hopefully, you could try to parlay a lot of interest in him into a nice little third round pick. And maybe if you trade Minka and Jaylen Phillips for a third round pick, you could then have four third rounders, which would allow you to draft a ton of young talent or package them up and get more selections in the top 50 or 60 of this year’s NFL draft. Point is I’m trying to make to round out the show though, I do wish Chris Reer wasn’t employed because I don’t want him making these decisions for the Miami Dolphins. Like, how is he going to make decisions what’s best for the future of this organization when he should have no future? Like, it’s just brutal. I think Ross should get rid of him and then they should bring in someone else and then Ross should instruct them for the rest of the year. Think for the future. That’s all what you have to do and that’s what I’m telling you to do. I wish Chris Ger wasn’t making decisions. All right, I’ll do it for today’s show. 1. Id dump all except the pillars for next year and stsrt over cause another 5 yeaes of this shit is annoying wish they would stop settling and go get… we should have gotten Lamar but nooo grier wanted someone else…

  2. Fire greir , fire McDaniel, cut tua or trade him if possible, trade Chubb , trade minkah , trade Zach seiler that’s where I’d start if I was Stephen Ross also are focus from here out as far as players goes like this fix the oline fix the dline and find a quarterback pretty simple

  3. How the defense gonna stop somebody when they are on the field most the game because are offense sucks and always give the other team three extra possessions the defense will get better when the quarterback plays better

  4. Getting rid of Phillips right now is dumb when his numbers will be back up next year it takes a year to comeback from those injuries and he will be cheaper then the talent level because his numbers are down and was injured two years in a row if keep Phillips keep achane cause running backs are cheap anyways so his contract won’t even matter and we already have waddle under contract so definitely should let him play out the contract then make a decision plus if u have a new qb coming in u want waddle to be there

  5. Even though, I wouldn't be surprised if Miami gives a go to Diggs arrival. Look at what grier gave to Loservailoa being aware (at least some of us) that Tua is a mediocre qb.

  6. Trade the only bright spot on our defense, let alone our secondary. We're going to be on the other side of that 70 points we put up against the Broncos in every game
