We mentioned how the Suns kind of turned over their roster. Green was coming back from Houston in the trade with Kevin Durant. Somebody is somebody’s going to have some problem with this guy here. This is again for the first time tonight. The defense got away with an open shot by Grayson Allen, but that was DJ in transition. No resistance. Great way to start the game with the open court layer. Never led in Salt Lake City. Brooks the fadeaway. He was very active in his first game with the Suns. 24 shots on goal in the win for Phoenix. Brooks came over with Jaylen Green from Houston. Former son Brady Bes on Brooks, loses the handle and now Allen controls for Phoenix. Allen drives on Zoo. Not great spacing, but able to find a clean look at a three. Comes in and flushes it home. And so it’s a 4-2 lead for Phoenix. Suns won just 36 times last year. Did not make it into the playin game. But of those 36 wins, four of them, all four games against the Clippers, they beat them, including two in October. Be the runner. It’s good. And that factor could come into play tonight. Although Beal’s still on a minute restriction. No, he is. But that’s good to see Bradley be able to get that first shot in. Speaking that on the line, right, that was a three-point shot. But those games you talked about four games like close games, you know, six points or less decided the game. The last loss to Phoenix Clippers led by 20 in Phoenix as Beal attacks inside. Goes up but not in. Rebound batted around. You could say it was rock bottom. It was in the first week of March. And then the following night, it was when James had a 50 piece right here and into it. And the Clippers would go on to win 18 of their last 21 games. Another easy basket here for the Suns who lead by five. That’s two rim baskets by Ryan Dunn. And speaking of rim baskets, that’s James Harden going against an outside defense. But the defensive end Don able to get in with the dunk because no communication then right here no one stops the ball. Zoo not able to get back and protect the paint and James coming back immediately able to create some contact softly off the the glass get himself to the line. You see James the offense was fairly efficient when they held on to the basketball. 11 live ball turnovers, eight of which happened in the first quarter. And it really just kind of set the tone for the Clippers the rest of the night as Harden gets up and down on the three-point play. You know, that first quarter looked like a team that didn’t play at all in the preseason, but they did. But I think a lot of it too was a lack of energy. So, a lot of the passes were flat. That’s just too easy. Another easy basket for Phoenix. A quick move by Booker on a very gifted defender, Derek Jones Jr. It’s 11 to7. One thing with Jordan Kn, the new head coach for Phoenix is we got to play hard. We’re going to play very difficult uh style of defense. As Harden knocks down a three, one oldfashioned three and now the conventional three. Six for Harden in the first three minutes. Yeah, Jordan talked about a departure from the team last year which was more offensively based. This one is going to be based around this second shot, outworking their opponents and defensively getting up to you playing physical. Harden on the run. What a pass. Leonard tied up on the way up. A whistle and a foul. Nice defensive play there by Booker, but it will send Leonard to the line. And you can see the Clippers want to get out and run. A lot of times it’s going to be opportunistic. It’s not going to be like OKC, Indiana, Golden State. But when you got a chance, you really have to make it count. Either you’re getting a basket or in this case you’re getting yourself to the free throw line. Kawawaii a very unawike night. Three for 10 on Wednesday just 10 points. One of five from above the arc. See his numbers last year. Really trended up as we went into the playoffs. Became that guy once again. He gets the first to go. And we get a quick word from Greg Goose. I think the most bizarre part about you know the first game was probably Kawhai’s play because the way he looked in preseason he just triggered he was ready for a 50 ball something like that on the roll but again I think it was a microcosm of what what the team was like his energy was low everybody else’s were low and could never get anything established either e either side of the ball and certainly give credit to Utah they play A great game. They were solid from start to finish. As Dylan Brooks, you mentioned the defensive presence. That’s what he brings. Flings up a three. Misses badly. Rebound goes to Leonard. 815 to play in this first quarter. Clippers five for 10 from the field. Bigger part. The Suns are five for 10. Clippers four for five. Leonard. It trickles in and Kawhi Leonard now with a quick four and the Clippers regain a three-point advantage. Not settled. Kawhai that time understood that Deon Booker was defending him. He got to his spot able to shoot over this morning defender. Nine to2 run ended right there with Brooks who has not been shy. Brooks already with five shots on goal of the 11 for Phoenix. Started his career obviously in Memphis. Then was picked up by Houston after the Grizzlies said no, we’ve had enough. Brooks does bring a lot to the table. Certainly on this side of the ball whistle foul offensively on a moving screen from Avita Zubat and that’s all created by Dylan Brooks in his activities. Instead of laying on the screen, watch him get under here. Defensive player now he’s getting over the top. See he gets into the body of Kawhai and that time Zeus right hip extends out and causes the contact. But if you want to play defense in this league and be effective, that’s how you blow up a screen. That time zoo got to be a little bit more disciplined and if he gets over the top he just gets over the top. Allen clean look at a three. He’s dangerous to leave alone. Exhibit A, your honor. And he puts the Suns out in front now 1714. He hit three threes opening night in their win again the Kings. Zoo first real touch here. He’s going up against Booker. Hangs is hit. No whistle. Good defense inside by Phoenix. Booker the other way. Late is it to Jim? Like come on. But we’re going to let him do it. The wall was ferocious for opponents free throws. Clippers free throw defense. One of the best in the league a year ago. Zoo and the Clippers have it. They’re down by five. Six and a half to play in this first quarter. Zoo trying to go to work on Gdaro has the brown to get around him. Puts it up wildly looking for a whistle. Not going to get another great defensive effort there for Phoenix. Booker lobs Gdaro. Deflected. Loose ball up for grabs. A whistle. Loose ball. Dylan Brooks. Dunn who impressed last year in summer league for the Suns and now has earned himself a starting role. And they’re really impressed with that young man and his potential. You know, we always talk about Dylan Brooks and his defense. He’s not a bad offensive player, and you’re starting to see it. And with Jaylen Green out of the lineup, he has certainly taken advantage of some of those shots. He’s put the Suns now out in front by seven. Five to shoot for Harden. Swings it to an open Leonard. Fields it low, shoots it high. It’s off the mark. And Booker the rebound for Phoenix. hands to Booker on the roll to the rim and in. And I’ll tell you, this Phoenix team looks so different than they did a year ago. The energy and the defensive hustle that we have seen. And they have built now a 23 to four with Booker. Nico Batum has checked in along with John Collins. Harden goes to work. In the corner is Jones for three.
