A True “World” Series Matchup – BTD Live 10/22/25
Wow, it’s Wednesday. Did the news break right when we go went live? Welcome to Beyond that podcast. We’re going to talk uh World Series and what happened. Tony Vetella, San Francisco Giants official. Official. Wow. Breaking from on right when we start. Yeah, this is from the on three main account. The San Francisco Giants are finalizing a deal to hire Tennessee Tony Vetella as their next manager. Holy, this is unprecedented. Yeah, I was I was trying to think through. Has it ever happened that like a prominent uh college coach? No, this is for the first time. Jack because it happens in NFL all the time, right? Yeah. Uh I am shocked. How do you think he’s going to do? How do you think it’ll translate? He will be, this is from Pete Faml. Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vatello finalizing a deal to become the next manager of the San Francisco Giants. Sources tell me and Jeff Passan. Battello 47 will be the first ever to jump from college coach to MLB manager without any professional experience. That is crazy. I mean, he’s a damn good coach. He’s a leader of men. Uh, it was being plugged in into that world a bit, it was fascinating to hear that the Tennessee athletic director took a huge chunk of baseball’s NIL money. Mhm. And went to the Lady Volunteers basketball program. Yeah. And didn’t tell Tony. And Tony just won a national championship. And uh yeah, you should let your manager know that you’re taking all Sorry, we have the dogs in studio today. And one whines a lot, but that’s crazy. I I’m I’m shocked. I am absolutely shocked that that’s happening right now. Uh episode day, we’re going to talk game seven. We’re going to talk George Springer. We’re going to talk World Series. uh ghost of free agents pass potentially at the end and we only guaranteed four games left. Yeah, a baseball in the girls the girls the pups love you dude. George is just what is up chat? What is up? That is that a dog crying or Julio? No, it’s it’s it’s the Golden Girls. It’s the Golden Girls. As you can tell, Hazel’s the better the better of the two. She doesn’t even know what to do. She’s just copying George. What do you want to tell them? She said, “Thanks for George Springer.” Um, yeah. Uh, all right. So, game seven. Game seven. Oh, that was Julio screaming. That was Julio screaming. Tom and Jerry is a very funny comp for that. like Tom from Tom and Jerry when he like would hit a hammer on his toe or whatever. What a pull. That’s a great What a pull. Yeah, let’s start with that. Uh so as a fan base, we’ve been on the on the ends of game seven losses. Uh, so there’s always that, but never never going to a World Series for the first time ever. Losing game seven, not even that. Losing a two- lead going back home. Yeah. Then losing a 3-2 lead. Yeah. It’s a damn shame. I forgot. It’s a damn shame. They were up two. They were up two. Going back to Seattle. Left Seattle only getting one. 3-2. What a series. What a what a That was a damn good series. What some resilience from Toronto. That’s crazy. I called Toronto dead after the Mariners went up 200. I was like, “This is over. There’s no way they’re coming back.” You did call it. Yeah, you called it time of death. I did. Um Hey, we’re not Well, now we’re not okay. We’re good. Uh the the fact the way that it happened was so poetic because you had all of Seattle and look there’s no love lost between Astro fans and Seattle fans at all. The George Springer [ __ ] was insane. And the base and this is why I know the Astros are innocent in all this because the baseball gods are tried and true and they and they have their wrath. The baseball gods have their wrath. If the Astros were truly truly on their on their [ __ ] list, there never would have been a 22. There never would have been any of the penants. Yeah, you could have said, “Yeah, 19 was the baseball gods for sure.” Um, I would have been dead after 19 after it came out in 19. And so for that to happen and it had to be George Springer. It had to be George Springer in that moment and I think we all collectively thought he could do it. Yes. Not that he actually would do it. Yeah. The the I think I think everyone he’s like, “Oh, yeah. He could do this right here.” Uh I mean I I I You did predict it. You did predict it. You did predict it. I thought he would get World Series MVP for it though. I’m surprised he didn’t. I know Vlatty had a really good series. But I just feel like if a single player literally clinches you the series, you got to give it to him. Yeah. Wasn’t Julio the one who had the last strikeout in game three of the 2022 ALDS? Was he? He had two strikeouts to end the Mariners postseason. I think he did. That’s tough. How many game fives and game sevens does everyone in here lost or watch the Astros lose? Yeah. Kansas City, St. Louis, Washington, Texas. I think of those my four. Casey was in game seven. That was game five. Yeah, but you say like I mean a close out. Yeah, close out game. It pitching the Springer was crazy. But okay, so this is actually some some cool stuff. Uh, so this is some behind the scenes behind the scenes scenes. I was talking to someone in the know that has a really good relationship with George. Um, we talk hitting a lot and I I I reached out and I was like, “Hey, George seems more more crouched and more his hands are more like coiled and lowered than years past.” And granted, George had a great uh a great year and it’s not breaking news or anything, right? But I was like, “Hey, is is he is he in a better a different position than years past?” And the person was like, “Yeah.” Uh they lowered his hands like collectively as a group because he’s part of that group. Um they made some tweaks with him in Florida with a a former former friend of the program as well leading that charge to allow George to get in the zone quicker with him being older now. Because I was I I’ve obviously like all of y’all, I’ve watched I’ve watched the Springer home run thousands of times and it wasn’t a cheat to hero, you know, hips out. I’m cheating to a pitch and and I’m I’m having my moment. It wasn’t a hero swing. It was my hands are quicker than your best pitch and I know you’re coming with your best pitch and my hands are quicker. So I I reached out and I was like, “Hey, is that something?” And they were like, “Yeah.” I was like, “No one.” Um, but it truly was and I and it goes back to the could Springer do it or would he do it. The the first pitch in that was a ball kind of got him settled in to see that that two seamer sinker, whatever you’re going to call it in on the hands. Granted, it was a two seamer right down right down Broadway that Springer got, but I mean kind of inner third, but um I think that first pitch missing so much in allowed him to see, all right, I got this guy. If he if he comes in this zone again, it sure enough, man. And we’ll go back to the beginning of the game because uh the game itself was a great game. Yeah. like Julio Jul who Julio leading off with a double like Seattle up in front like that you’re like [ __ ] all right here we go. Um I just game seven should be and that’s what makes baseball the best because I think if you play that game 10 times probably five and five probably. You know what I mean? Yeah. I mean, if they played like a 11 game series, I think it still probably goes to game 11. Yeah, it goes to game 11. Yeah. Um, sub Andrew. And also, yeah, off the knee that he was late to a couple fast balls early. It just h and we could talk about it. We we’ll go let’s go through the game. Uh the fact that Bieber’s stuff wasn’t good. No, I mean he was I don’t want to say not good, but it it wasn’t secondary was a little flat. Yeah. Uh but he was effective enough with it to get give them the innings they needed. I’m gonna go get her. She’s right there. Um now you made me acknowledge her. God, my bad. Damn it. That’s so my fault. Um, yeah, Bieber’s secondary stuff was a little flat. Um, it was it was almost a game of who was going to make less moves. You don’t even know what you’re doing. You’re just watching your sister. Uh, that’s that’s where I was like kind of focused in. I was like, “Okay, who’s going to make the less moves?” And pulling Kirby I thought was insane. Yeah, he was cruising. I think he was at like like 58 59 pitches. Overmanaging. I understand trying to get to Woo. I understand trying to to do the the piggy back. We’ve seen it countless times in Houston. The piggyback works. But it almost felt forced. It almost felt like, okay, our game plan going in was Kirby’s going to go four. We’re going to if we need to bridge a guy, we will. Woo is going to bring it all the way home to to Munoz, and then we’re going to celebrate. And then they got to that step one checkpoint. Yeah. And they’re like, “Well, the book says or our game plan says we’re going to do this.” When in reality, the checkpoint was, “Hey, Hazy, get down.” Um, they should have kept going at least. And I’m I’m in the old school camp of batter to batter. Like, if if you if you were for sure going to pull someone, I want them to go batter to batter. And we saw it with Y Savage the game before with Schneider where they went batter to batter as soon as they got that guy on. Okay, let’s pull the kit to just full send it be like, “Okay, we got checkpoint one. Okay, pull them.” like no I mean there’s that’s why the best managing the best teams have that mix between a well-informed analytics team that can give your coaching staff all the tools they need to make the right decisions and the old school I know my guy mentality like mix pairing those is when you’ve seen the most success in the postseason Dusty Becker was a great example of that. Great. Even though it had to come from a little bit of him pushing back. It wasn’t like a designed um game plan. It was more they they had the information and Dusty was saying, “Okay, thank you for the information, but here’s the decision I’m going with or whatever.” Um, that’s where you have to have that that old school like it’s like a skill set for c a manager to be able to look at uh and the pitching coaches as well to be able to look at the pitcher stuff. How is it moving right now? How is he getting these guys out? Because it could go the other way. It could go well the analytic says like he’s great. We should leave him in. But you see as a manager you see the guy you see him leaving leaking pitches over the plate. You see him not throwing a conviction. You’re like, “Oh, we got to pull this guy early.” The flip side of that is the analyst says, “Oh, we got to go to our whoever because the analyst say we can’t let this guy face the third time through the order.” But you look at him and he’s pitching confidently. He’s hitting his his zones. So, I I just think that’s got to be the overall that’s got to be the endgame scenario with all these managers and stuff. And if I’m any team, I don’t know how you’re not immediately trying to build that sort of game plan of heavy front office analytics and get me a dude that has been around and can make that kind of decision. Yeah. And real quick, I see some comments from IG uh talking about Texans and Rockets. Texans, we have a podcast dropping today. They’re ready to drop ready to drop last night. So they they’re talk they talked about the game on OTG and then the Rockets content as well on our YouTube channel. Um that’s already going out and about. Um so today strictly is just beyond the diamond our typical Monday, Wednesday, Friday nuner. Um but yeah, it’s a great point because I I think there’s a unless unless you’re just the Dodgers where you have the Otani Yamota Snell to to Suzaki, there’s not. It makes it easier for sure. But I I do think the Blue Jays are capable, and I still want to say on the LCS, but I I have this take fresh in my head. I do think the Blue Jays could take the the Dodgers into some uncomfortable water waters where they’re going to have to use the pin. They don’t strike out a lot. They just saw, Grantite, I know you’re about to see Snell, Yamito, Otani, um, Glass now. I understand that. But they just saw Castillo, Woo, Kirby, Gilbert, Muno, like and they’ve got that offense has gotten to good pitchers before. Hey, Georgie, your namesake. Your namesake hit a home run. Um, yeah. And they’ve seen them before. So, that’s why I’m saying like I think the Blue Jays can make this World Series pretty pretty interesting. How interesting though? Blue Jays and six interesting. Oh [ __ ] But we could talk about that later. I still want to talk about this game. All right. Um where on the other side it was almost strictly pitching chaos that we saw just Hazy get down. George uh the Blue Jay side was strictly I felt like AJ Hinch uh pitching chaos. Seeing Basset in the eighth inning damn near me had me out of I almost fell out of my chair. I was like, you were like Chris Bass, what the hell is happening right now? Chris Basset is pitching the eighth inning. Very interesting. It was it was very quick inning and it like caught me so offguard and that was after I mean this is the the box score. Bieber three and two/3s, Varlin won and a third, Dominguez inning, Gosman in an inning, Bass inning, and Hoffman. It was all hands- on deck. I if that was actually Sher had the game, I bet Sher had the they were just be like, “Max, you probably have probably have it.” Yeah. So, I like it. I really like how John Schneider team I mean I think he’s gonna win manager of the year already just what they did in the regular season. But yeah, I mean I definitely think John Schneider is a better manager than Dave Roberts. Dave Roberts is just constantly giving look just here is the best players on planet Earth. Like do what you can. Dave’s got that Ferrari, right? Like that Ferrari is going to work. Yeah. You get a little sand in there. There’s there’s some problems. But Schneider, he’s a he’s a junkyard dog, man. He’s gonna get a He’s gonna get a little little fixer upper and get you street racing. He’s He’s a little uh What’s the guy from Fast and Furious? That’s Dom Tretto. Yeah, that’s like more raw. It doesn’t have like American Muscle. Dom Tretto. Yeah. Yeah. Vin Diesel. Vin Diesel. Yeah, Dom Tretto. I know. I just I don’t remember. It’s called Family. It’s called Family. That’s plot lines enough. He’s on strike. You know what? You may you may be that was that was a plot line from back before they were like still in DVDs, dude. We’re still in DVDs back then. DVD players. Uh will Mad Max pitch in the World Series? I I don’t Not first game. No, for sure. Um he probably I mean he’s probably going to pitch. He’s definitely going to pitch. Yeah, he’ll be on the roster. I’m just That was what an ALCS is all about. And I’m thankful that we’ve all been part of ALCS’s for good and bad um and that kind of atmosphere. But we’ve really been through the Astros have been in the last decade been through every type of playoff scenario you could possibly go through. I feel like yeah, we’ve seen everything. They’ve we’ve seen we’ve seen the one game wild card. We’ve seen the threeame wild card. Seen game sevens and the We’ve seen game fives and the DS’s. We’ve seen game sevens and the CS’s and World Series. Like pretty much every scenario you could possibly face as a team. This we’ve seen in the last decade. I was jumping up and celebrating when George hit that home run, when Springer hit that home run. Uh like he was an Astro. I’m wearing his jersey also. 2017 patch. Uh it was a big leap of faith. You weren’t even a fan. It was it was a big leap of faith trying to put this jersey on this morning. It worked. It was Look, it’s a little tight. A little tight. Hey, it’s just years of the years of Washington. Yeah, just years of Washington, right? Uh I just Man, that was just a damn damn Blue Jays are plus 190 right now for the series. Okay, so would you would you jump on that? Yeah, I think I would. I think I would. I got Blue Jays in six. Um we’re talking about Bo Bushette. Uh I think a lot of comments have come up came up on that. Yeah, I think everybody talks about him like I didn’t even think he had that good of a year, did he? Uh I think he led the league in hits. He really I I didn’t pay attention to him. Oh [ __ ] Yeah. Okay. Oh, he had an 840 LPS, 311 batting average, 18 bombs, 3.44 war. Okay. That’s a huge That’s a He got injured during the Astro series when we lost to him here when we we played up there. Yeah. Uh that’s when he got he missed that series. We kind of affect We affected both series because Woo also got injured. We kind of in the Astro series. We kind of did. Yeah. Bashette playing in a That’s huge. Bashette took a big jump up from last year. Last year he was awful. Okay. Interesting. Is he a free agent this year? Yeah, Shark. That’s the only thing I think that’s the the third title is going to be exactly that scenario. an Ash’s team that is dead, that wins 87 to 89 wins, gets hot, and does the whole nationals thing. I think that is the the official book in of all this. I think that’s the third title. Um, that’s where my my hopeless romantic of baseball. I mean, that’s Axel has a good point. It’s baseball. There’s no matchup in the playoffs that is more certain than 6535. Yeah. I mean, that’s what we love about baseball. anything can happen. There’s very rarely an obvious sweep that happens. Even when the sweeps do happen before the series, you can say like after hindsight, oh, yeah, they were way better. But like, well, I mean, the Brewer sweep, three of those games, the Brewers were there till the seventh or eighth inning. Yeah, there was a two to1 game, a three to one game. Like, and then obviously the Otani games, the Otani game. But I I’m just I love baseball so freaking much. Hey, let’s calm down just a tad. Let’s lock in just a tad. All right. Paul says, “Since Brown and Spot on the hot seat, next thing you know, they should go all out by making big signings, big trades without getting the farm too much. Make a world.” I well that I think that’s I kind of laid it out on Monday that it feels like both both men have to know like there’s you have to know you’re on the hot seat. You have to know that it’s it’s not there’s no contract extension behind it. So, not only do you have to make the playoffs, you have to you probably have to make a CS. I think that gets you I think a DS would be enough to keep a job if if it’s a if the standard’s a standard. If you go out in the DS Yeah. But if it’s a process though, like if if I guess what I guess it would happen if you go out lame in the DS, then you’re probably out. Sure. But yeah, if you win like 95 games, make it to you win 95 games and you’re out in the DS, you should be fired. I don’t know. Like if you face just the tough the tougher team, if you end up facing a very tough team and you go five and it’s just like really close series, okay, I’ll get Yeah. But if you go out if you go out lame. Yeah. Like the Brewers should fire every everybody and then they give a ton sell the team and get an owner that actually wants to [ __ ] win. Great council contract. I think they gave him a lot. The Cubs. Oh, the Cubs gave council. late 40 million. Yeah. I don’t know what Pat Murphy’s What’s Murphy’s contract? That’s crazy, though. I really like Pat Murphy. I just maybe the GM and then definitely the ownership is not very helpful when you don’t want to. Oh, we just got a three when you’re you’re trying not to pay your ace $8 million. Like I just think it’s not really the best uh best way to succeed there. Um so back to the back to the game. Seattle’s rolling. You get you get the Julio game, the home run, the obviously the double, then the home run, the rally home run, and you’re just sitting there. I mean, I was like, [ __ ] we’re here. This is This is Asteroid 2.0. It’s It’s Seattle, LA for a World Series. And I’m so glad I have an actual team to root for in the World Series. It it was it was interesting because you had I I love I absolutely love the jocking of like big media baseball when it’s Rosenthal or Passin or Night whoever it is for Duchcci all those guys when they’re like trying to tout up the team that they’re going to be like you know oh you know we’re gonna have to talk about them for the next you know week and a half. Yeah. And they get kind of caught in this no man’s land and you get this infamous the Seattle Mariners are nine outs away from the World Series tweet. Who did that? Uh I think Rosenthal did that. Oh no. I’m gonna pull it up real quick. Chat, do we know it was someone in big media that did the It’s usually Bob. I think it was Ken Arson Judge. Yanik and Breurto doing good in the Oh, yeah. We can talk about the fall league a little. Yeah, we’ll talk to some fall league. Let me see. Maybe it wasn’t Ken who did the There was a night out tweet. There was a There was a big account that did a night out. Morosi. Morosi did. Yeah. Yeah. There it is. Thank you. I knew I saw it. I knew it was from a big account. Uh but that’s what I love that little that that that pocket of the seventh and ninth inning where where it’s a close game and team the I always I I don’t know either. I I just I just go with it. Um you come from that pocket where big big media doesn’t know what to do. And I I just love that. It’s just like this little this little chess game within baseball where like do you know all the stores are going to write about or XYZ um and someone put it out there the 9 oz away tweet that’s going to be something that I will retweet and I will screenshot and and use. And also like I don’t really like I like Julio. I I as a baseball fan, I like Julio Rodriguez. Yeah, I’m indifferent on Cal Raleigh. His family was nice when we met him in 22. That was before he was Okay, hold on. What’s up with this big baseball call counting playoff home runs to regular season totals? Yeah, that’s that’s too much. What are we What are we doing? That’s too much. Did you see somebody tweeted like counting spring training to postseason? Cal Raleigh has hit the most home runs and list or whatever. That’s yeah that’s crazy talk. That’s absolutely crazy talk to me. I just I just I don’t know. I do not know. Um early pops I think the other side was that there’s a There’s Astro fans get a lot of heat. Oh, you’re not you’re not fans. You’re not fans since 2017. Uh Toronto fans just completely forgetting about Joe Carter. I know. Yeah. Like I I I know Jose Bautista was there and I think Joe Carter actually threw out a pitch on game six, game seven, but just people were like there was a photo of I saw Springer and Bautista was like the two biggest home runs in franchise history. I was like Joe Carter hit a walkoff home run. Yeah. That’s I mean I I guess I get it when you know some of these you know a lot of fans were probably born after 2000 they but that’s like that’s like not knowing like Belran hit 15 zillion home runs in ‘ 04. No it’s fair or Bagwell and Bio full lack of ball knowledge. The most obscure levels of lack of ball knowledge. But you know what? I’m gonna let Toronto fans. It’s fine. They were probably just all jacked up. It’s fine. If I have to wait 30 something odd years for another pennant, I’m gonna walk straight into the golf. I can’t do that. Uh but I’m I’m pumped. I’m pumped because you have you have a World Series now that I’m truly invested in. two, for a moment, for a moment in game seven when you had runners on the corners, no outs, and you didn’t get an insurance run, you had a screaming line drive double play with the infield in or at least corners in, uh, and Munos gets out of the inning. I was like, they’re going to blow this. They’re going to blow this game. Seattle’s going to find a way to scrap a run right here. Yeah. And kind of some piss poor at bats by Seattle at the very end. I mean, Julio’s at bat. I don’t think there was an actual strike. You know, that was that was uh that’s an embarrassing at bat when you’re I get it. Maybe if you’re if you’re tied, you got to know who’s on deck. Kyle Rollley’s on deck. Caly’s on deck. 75 home runs since spring training. You’re down by one and he’s wanting to be the hero there. He’s wanting to hit a a tie game tie home run. Oh, for sure. Um, but the I think it was K can zone whoever was the the or Rus or whoever it was at the bottom lineup. Look completely checked out before the strike out. Hey, get down just cuz sister does it. You know, um, you have an opportunity to get Cal Rollies to play. You just need one guy to get on and you get Cal Raleigh to the plate to a chance to Oh, can you imagine if you hit one there, you know, in the ninth inning that it was just um All right, we spent 30 minutes talking talking World Series. I think let’s do some Astros talk. Let’s talk about the Arizona Fall League. Uh you have Yannik and Breto doing a good job over there. Yannik is tied for second right now on home runs in the Arizona Fall League. Did you see the other kid that’s going off though? Valdez. His name is S. Merlin Valdez. Pirates guy. Okay. 22 at bats, nine games. He has eight home runs. He’s has a 2400 OPS in the Arizona. I know it’s Arizona Fall League, but like he has eight in the and and Yannik is tied for second with three. Like that’s how how much that gap is. Uh I can’t find Burrito’s stats. I know he’s been doing pretty good. I’ve always been a Burrito guy. I mean it’s still probably a year before the year with him. I think probably Miguel’s ahead of him. Yeah. Um five and two/3 innings, two runs, 13ks. 13ks in five. It’s kind of crazy. Um, no. But I just think that’s fall league though. Arizona fall league. It’s fall league for sure. If but if if Yanik if Yanik shows something in spring training, do you think that makes them more uh open to trade? Or are they hoping this fall league uh helps Yionics value? Not that fall league does that much, but I mean I mean we’re going to get into plenty of offseason free agent stuff and trade stuff. Brittle is only 20 years old. Yeah, he threw 50 49 and third last year. Uh 328 erra 18 earned 65 punches that was in high a Nashville. Um, I think anytime you you operate at a place where there’s going to be a lot of MLBI and and scouts and stuff, it only only helps. Like it only helps. Yeah. I just there’s so many different directions Dana Brown the Astros can go this off seasonason that you kind of have to keep an eye on everything on who’s doing what where and who might have value. Yeah. Well, I think anytime [Music] anytime you have anytime you have the pressures of sustaining championships, one, and two, the pressure of the backsliding, and three, the hot seat. Um, every move you’re going to make some be magnified tfold, but what we see with Dana Brown, I think at his best is kind of what we saw with the Nate Pearson signing one. Um, I think we’ll see kind of shotgun blast of those again, which I don’t mind. Like any anytime the Astros are taking a shotgun blast, one-year deals on former top top 100 guys, like do it. Um, I mean, with their success rate, you know, they’re usually, I would say, more than 50% successful on pitchers with doing that. Yeah. And so, if you go get 10 pitchers in this off season like that, go do it. That means you’re getting at least probably five pretty good arms. I would rather you spend 10 million that way than to a 36 year old first baseman. Oh, I thought you going to say a 41y old starting pitcher. 42y old. How old are you now going in this year? 42. Oh man, let me see. Um, cleanse the batters box with a bridto filter. TM from from from Jacob. Very funny. Very funny, Jacob. Very funny. Justin is 42 this year. He’ll be 43 next. God damn. Asking a lot. Age 43 season. It’s asking a lot. Uh, Corona. Mr. Corona has a good question. Y’all have been asked this before, but I’m sorry to ask again. Assuming 2019 World Series ends the same way, but no cheating scandal comes out, does Hinch remain Astros manager, or is he fired? Do you think Hinch was almost the manager this year? Do we think Do we think if Hinch uh if the scandal never came out, do you think AJ Hinch is still the Astros manager? I don’t know. Also, do we think we we success? I am or lack of success. I I if there’s one thing that came out of the scandal, it was the era of Dusty Baker that I will forever forever cherish. Um, and I was tough on him. I was tough on him online. I was tough in person. And all you have to do is drink tequila with me. And I’m I’m a fan. Tough as he was like, “What’s up?” And shook your hand. You’re like, “Hey man, you’re cool. Andre, I’ll do two shots with you. Uh I I was Do we think if AJ Hinch is the manager from 2020, he probably gets one to There’s one in there. There’s one in there for sure. You think so? There’s one in there for sure. I think so. It might not be the same one. Uh he might have won in 2020, honestly. I don’t I don’t know. Um I just don’t know if the manager makes that that much of a difference into Yeah, it’s I don’t know. You never you can never know. I I I would say the Astros the Astros coming out of the scandal alleged scandal leaguewide issue. GFK files, look it up. Um that was a very very thin margin to to get by and they struck gold with Dusty and obviously winning in 22 capped everything. Um getting in 21, you know, that 21 team should have lost the Red Sox or the CS. That was kind of been crazy to even make the fall classic. But that era and that window I think allows you to to thrive into the, you know, back into the 2020s into the 2030s. Like you very much could have went bud black. You could have gone, you know, Yeah, another old wars and bad decisions that you didn’t. And so the revisionist history of if AJ was here they would keep winning would be like, you know, I probably one and one. I I I think there’s probably another pin in there they probably lose and there’s another championship in they probably win. Like but that’s where I’m at. Go get Hunter Green. I think the years of the Astros trading for a top end guy that was a fleece is just it’s not there anymore. Yeah, I don’t think that’s happening. The element surprise is gone. It’s like trying to do D-Day the next week. This ain’t going to happen. It ain’t gonna happen anymore. It is. I’m just I’m tire I just I just If they do it, it’s a it’s literally uh like the heist of the Lou like it’s like he’s trying to steal Decoration Independence. Yeah, that’s a good pull, dude. There you see it coming. Hurricane Harvey Corus Le, Mr. Policeman. Great pull. That’s pretty good. That’s f That is good, Axel. That’s probably your best. Um I love Freddy Peralta. Absolutely. I mean, we’re gonna we’re gonna get in the lab. We’re going to do a bunch of lab bunch of research on guys we want the Astros to go get. We’re going to have plenty of clips coming out on our takes on each of these guys, all that. Uh, I’m really excited to get into it. I’m honestly I’m excited for the World Series, but I’m also excited for the offseason to start and for things to start happening. I’m not. You’re not, dude. Yesterday Yesterday I mean granted, shout out to Battlefield 6. We’ve been Yeah, we’ve been grinding that. Speaking of Speaking of war, Speaking of war, does that count as Dez getting something right about Germany? Well, it was Normandy, but yeah, it was Germany was involved. Uh, I was sitting there and I was like, man, I don’t have anything to watch. I mean, obviously, I watched the Rockets game, which was great, double OT, and I’m going to go home today. I’m going to play Battlefield until my eyes bleed. Yeah. There’s nothing on there. There’s I mean there’s opening NBA, but I’m like not an NBA guy. So like I wait till like Yeah, I only got guaranteed four days of of but even Yeah, as a casual NBA guy, I only really care about the Rockets. And so yeah, for me tonight there’s there’s nothing on. But uh this is how you get a It’s Battlefield 6. This is how you this what you do. You go to underdog, use code beyond, get $100 promo fun. You just use that. Um, he’s the lab co for in lab for lab videos. Hopefully next year when Brian’s uh computers up, we’ll bring back the lab. Yeah. And we get the lab get the lab going. Um, yeah. I mean, this is usually my time of year where I catch back up on shows, movies. On movies and shows. Yeah. Going to watch a bunch of movies. We should wear lab coats for the lab. Yeah, we’re in Polo’s bag for sure. I I actually want to go to because our office not the totally docs over kind of by uh downtown. But uh I want to see if we can rent a lab. Use their little science lab. Use pouring beers and stuff. One Freddy Peralta. I think it would work. I want to use the thing where you like when you get chemicals in your eyes. The whole splash station. It’s about the batter’s eye and you’re like wash it out. Yeah. That’s good. It’s a good bit. It’s a great bit. It’s all about bits. I think we’re gonna be I want to be more bits. I want to do more bits. Feel free to Yeah, I love doing bits. Feel free to DM us or tag us uh with any of your free agent hopefuls or trades that you are interested in the Astros doing. More ammo the better for when we sit down and and write everything out and to spreadsheets and plan all that content. You say it now, I’m gonna just forget it. So that’s why I’m saying tag us. Don’t just say I mean say in the chat if you want, but I’ll forget 100%. He does. Um, speaking of movies, I watched Terrified One, two. That [ __ ] is wild. I will never ever watch that. That’s I’m not as scary. I can’t do scary. No, no, no, no, no. I still haven’t seen weapons. I got to watch weapons, though. Uh rewatching Breaking Bad for the third time with my stepdad and then BCS second time. Plurbus. Yeah, that Plurbus is uh coming out soon, right? Yeah. J loves loves Vince Gillian. Possible trade. Walker for Otani. Apparently the Giants are paying Mattel less than what he made at Tennessee. That makes sense. I guess that’s interesting. That’s Wow. How much did he make at Tennessee? He got up to four I think four million. You’re making less than four million as a big league manager. What is that? I I I truly believe that I truly believe that that NIL thing really soured him. I mean, you’re in the SEC. You got to Well, also like the opportunity to manage for a big league ball club. Like it’s hard to pass that up. I mean, if that’s something you care about, it’s hard to pass that up, especially and to be the first the first ever to go from and to be such a historic organization like the Giants like Yeah. Yeah. With a with a young GM. I’m sure I’m sure the conversation with Buster was fun. Where did Buster go to college? I’ll get up. Uh went to Florida State. Oh, Buster went to Florida State. It’s a prove yourself type of deal with the big leagues. Yeah, Andrew said weapons is bond. Everybody I know says weapons was incredible. So, are buns good? I do love me some [ __ ] like a honey bun. Ever go to the gas station, get just a [ __ ] just raid the awful snacks that are horrible for you, but you just tear them up. Uh, we’ll have some nuns bless Dykin Park. Maybe that’s a bit we do since uh Seattle did the Etsy witch. Maybe we’ll we’ll go to God instead and we’ll get the reality nuns back out for a video before the season. See what they can do. See see what they can bring for us. Just near UHD live from the Harris County Jail. Yeah, that’s where we’re from. Yeah, we literally are live from Harris County Jail. Um, dad’s a serving 5 to 10. You good? Our first first live nose bleed. It’s probably from allergies. Jesus. Uh, coming up last 15 minutes. Talk to me. Talk to me about trades you want to happen, free agents you want the Astros to go after. I will build them in my little my little nerd spreadsheet. And uh we’ll get that going next week. I think we’re going to start dropping those videos. Keep doing our Monday, Wednesday, Friday live shows and then our Tuesday, Thursday recorded episodes talking ball. How about everybody give me your World Series predictions? Who wins and how many games? We’re gonna we’re gonna probably get more into it Friday. Me and Dez will give ours. I’ll see where y’all are at. We sign a petition for Drake not to wear the Blue Jays. Yeah, that’s a tough thing because everybody’s comparing this to be like, oh, Drake versus uh Kendrick World Series. But I don’t know if I can be on Drake’s side of that. Speaking of, y’all ever bring back Super Sports, you need to make Swedish hot dog. Two wieners and a tortilla with mashed potatoes, shrimp salad, fried onions, the works. Oh my god. Oh my god. What is that? What? Dodgers in six. Oh, Bourdain. Bourdain tried it. Okay. If Bourdain tried it, then then Dez will try it. Uh, Blue Jays in six. Springer in seven. Gut is a Dodgers, but I want Blue Jays. Probably Dodgers in seven. If if it can go seven, I think I’ll be happy either way since I’m not so tied to one team. Uh yeah, Hart said Hart Jay’s in six head Dodgers and six. I think if it goes I think similar to the Mariners series, if it goes back to Toronto, anything can happen. If it makes it back to Toronto for game six, either way, it’s tough. Swedish hot dog sounds like a trenches meal. Yeah, that’s crazy. I have you with everything on there except for the shrimp salad. I’m not a shrimp guy at all. I’m not a seafood guy, but I absolutely would try two hot dogs with mashed potatoes, fried onions. Interesting. I do not want the Dodgers to win. I hear you, Megan. Uh I’m not big on that. I’m not big on that. Hey, shout out to the super chat from Roger. My heart says Jay’s in seven. My head says Dodgers and six. Feel like that’s a recurring theme where like uh everybody wants the Jays to win, but really it’s it’s a it’s a tough hill to climb for them. I don’t know if you heard Dez, but I’m not going to reveal his take until Friday. Uh, if Dodgers can’t do it in five, then Jay’s in seven. Yeah, that’s where I’m at. Andrew, if it gets back to Toronto, then I think the Jays take it. Dodgers can’t get in the mud. You and Dez should come to Philly next year for a series. I’m down. The Oscars playing Philly next year. I I would love to go. Uh, I just went Toronto to win so that I can see my cousin who’s a daughter fan. Be livid about the result. I feel that. Uh, I can get the tickets. Thank you, Noah. Sounds awesome. Uh, Springer will solidify the Astros. We become undeniable. Meet another MVP. Sorry, I dropped out, guys. That’s got nose bleed. It’s like the fourth day. Like back toback days of nose bleed. I have like four nose beds in the last I may be dying. Be like a Maybe you had like a sinus infection or something. I have enough pseudapetamine to take down an elephant though. That’s why you crashed that plane. Um, what’s your what’s your what is your uh Well, I just I was saying that we won’t we’ll reveal our uh full takes on Friday. Okay. What is that? I don’t know. Something Georgia ate. It’s like wood. It’s underneath your seat. I don’t know. It’s where we had wood. She ate a lot of wood. What the [ __ ] I don’t know. It’s all right. We’ll figure it out after. Oh, you know what it is? It’s one of those clamps. Oh, a clothes pin. Oh, she ate a whole clothes pin. She ate a whole clothes pin. What the hell? She ate a whole clothes pin. See, I’m used to cats and cats just don’t they don’t just do that. Eat a whole clothes pin. Good thing she didn’t eat the metal part. So, we’re good. Jesus Christ. Uh, Dow Jay’s dropped both at home again this series. Yeah, I agree. Um, that’s why I’m like I think it makes it back to Toronto and I think they take it. You need to see an allergist. Dez is what Mega says. See an allergist. Well, you know, with your the thing about the thing about Apollo, I show you we have the best benefits, the the best insurance. Uh, nosebleleed the new nap on deadline day. Please not. If if if they announced that the Astros just signed like [ __ ] what if what if something dropped right now? Like Dylan C signed the Astros. You just just line up to punch me. Every deadline day, you’re just standing there like just hit me. The the the knockout punch for a nosebleleed to nap. It’s just all one. It’s a two for it’s a two for one combo. Yeah. Going to need Alu to get back to postseason, get off home runs. I love Springer, but Aluve should be the solo home run postseason king. Yeah, that’s what I selfishly I want. Yeah, I need I need that. I need I need him to to break Manny’s record. Ash’s coming to Philly September 8th through 10th. We’re going to Philly next September 8th through 10th. Apparently, Noah’s buying our tickets to the game. We’ll uh Absolutely. Noah, you got our tickets. We’ll be there. I want to see it. I I want to go there. I want to do a whole Northeast like trip. I do want to make right by the Great Lakes. People People say that. People say people do. I will let Brian know that you said that. Jo, I will. What did Jo say? Brian’s a legend and Sports Talk 790 is horrible now without him and Sean. Oh, I was just reading. I didn’t say that. We have it on on camera that you just said. I was reading the comment. But I don’t know. I’m I’m interested to see. I know. I was very pessimistic where it’s like I don’t see how any of these like this Astro team could have played against any of those teams. But the more I’m getting around to it, they’re healthy. if they’re if they’re healthy. That’s what I’ve been saying. The roster was built correctly. Not fully correctly, but it was built pretty decently. You were one you were one solid lefty second baseman that could work a count away from having a very very good team. I I think it was built Okay, I’ll extend an all branch. I think it was built to withstand a category 2 or category 3 hurricane. Yes. And you got a 500year category five. Exactly. That’s exactly what happened. I keep saying because if if Christian Walker is hitting that whole season in the like sixth or seventh hole, which where he would hit probably with your full fully healthy, at least the sixth hole, it’s not as big of a deal with the season yet. But so many injuries. Yeah. Yeah. We can keep going around in circles on that side effect of the Astros losing Dez is physically physically deteriorating. Yes, that’s actually happening. Um, remember in 21 after we lost and we both had like some health Oh yeah, I’m not going to disclose kidney infection. Okay, I wasn’t going to disclose. I had a kidney infection. You were just like, “Hey, I’m I think I need to go to the clinic right now.” I don’t remember what I had, but I had something similar around then. Yeah, we were just like, “God damn.” Yeah. Dell. Actually, that probably means we win the World Series next year. Oh [ __ ] We just We’re going to have [ __ ] We’ll watch from a hospital bed. Yeah. I’m going to watch from a a hospital bed in Mexico. Yes. Yeah. Mariners aren’t even a top two favorite to win the West next year. It’s gonna be interesting to see how they battle back the West or excuse me, the Mariners. Yeah. Yinho walks, Naylor walks. I’m sure they’ll get one of those two back. I just don’t you don’t expect to see Cal to do another 60 plus. Injuries happen with those arms. Another year of wear another wear of year on those arms. Ry’s getting older. Yeah, it’s it’s hard. It’s hard to win. It’s hard to win and get there. Seattle getting eliminated gave me renewed strength. It did. It brought me It brought me back to life. It’s maybe saved my life. George Fringer saved my life. George Fringer in the fray. How to save a life. Uh coming up on the end. That’s it. Just coming up on the end. Coming up on the end. I was I got distracted for a second. The East Prades Mexican stem cells for Sammy. That’s what you need for your nose. Astros won the World Series and Dez posted a video celebrating from hospital bed with a bastion in face as everybody wonders what the [ __ ] happened but only Josh knows Jake I feel like you you thought of that was really quick that was really quick I finally get to see an actual World Series this time in my life Canada Canada that’s what that’s what I that’s why I titled the episode u a first true world series since I was born 1993 the first true world series first true one you And we can Whoever wins this is the world well until next year.
