ORLOVSKY: Vikings Are “The Most Disappointing Roster in Football Right Now”

What’s going on, Jerome? So, the Minnesota Fighting Vikings allegedly are three and four and you’re waiting on the return of JJ McCarthy where the narrative has really switched ve very quickly where before the start of the season, it was okay, JJ McCarthy just uh don’t don’t drive the car into the ditch. It’s what you need. You have a revamped offensive line. uh you have the defensive line getting pressure, getting after things uh and having a shutdown defense, and you’re going to be good to go. But now, basically, we’re we’re just hoping that this kid is the freaking savior, right? And Carson Wentz has been fine at times, he’s been not fine at times. It’s just been a conundrum where the offensive line has been ravaged by injuries. This team large has been ravaged by injuries. The defense has not been great at times and it really has become a chicken or the egg debate, right? So, Quy understand his issues with drafting. You another big-time free agent class. This this one maybe not as successful as the last one. Uh and Kevin McConnell, the Ted Lasso feelgood head coach. Uh f I believe in family. Forget about me. I love you. PJ, what does that even mean? Right. And Flores, uh the defense has just not been good, right? Uh but it has been a are the players not good or is is there a breakdown in coaching? Right. And here’s what I always come back to. So with McCarthy, I I know that some fans are like whatever. Seven bad quarters. If he went somewhere else, he’s going to be become the next Tom Brady. guaranteed. Diamond Dallas Turner, his production has been midish so far, but if he goes somewhere else, 100% he turns into Micah Parsons. So, is it a talent issue, a talent acquisition and scouting and vetting issue, or does it come down to coaching, right? I think it’s pretty valid question. Uh, and long story longer, uh, Dan Rosski, he is of the 11 yard end zones, uh, was on ESPN. So, we talked about this in the dump, but want to expand on this because it really got me thinking, too, because yes, he’s absolutely right. Ori, you know, talking about the the Vikings getting boat raced by the Chargers. I think this is the most disappointing roster in football right now. And to be disappointing, you have to have expectations first, right? Because it’d be one thing if the Vikings were just the Jets or the Dolphins, right? But this team, and not just us, who, you know, Mr. for purple positivity around the league at large like hey this team collection of superstars uh you know big time contracts got a great offensive line defensive line hey Jonathan Allen hey Javon Hargrave all that stuff will be getting after things uh surrounded by JJ McCarthy but here’s the thing about it too quarterback hasn’t been the ma the the largest problem for the Vikings it’s been a Sure, but not the largest one this season. And I know people like to be simplistic and have a totem be like, well, if the Vikings had Darnold, oh, if the Vikings brought back Daniel Jones, oh, if the VI Vikings sign Aon Rogers, I feel like the Vikings are in the same spot with any of those three as they are right now with JJ McCarthy off of injury and Carson Wentz. All right, because think about it, the offensive line has been bad. You you’ve seen Sam Darnold with a bad offensive line. see the Rams game. Uh Daniel Jones, you’ve seen what he’s done with with bad protection as well. See see the Giants, right? Uh as well as the none of these three guys play defense. Oh, Rogers. Rogers has been Charlie Czechown with the Steelers. No one wants to admit that. All right. And also if Rogers had operated with Justin freaking school as his left tackle, he would have been retired and smoking crack in a cave right now. All right. So quarterback is not the number one problem for the Vikings. It’s top five. Sure. Uh but none of these guys play defense and this defense with Flores has been extremely disappointing. And it it’s disappointing in different ways. Like they they’ve been tough. It’s been tough for them to stop the run all year except for Saquon. Uh but then you you bet against Jaylen Herz and you lose, right? You you wanted Jaylen Herz to try and beat you. He did. And then you got tore up by Justin Herbert and you’re staring down the barrel of a pretty daunting schedule coming up. You got Detroit. Lamar’s going to be back week 10. Uh the the Bears are sort of doing their damn thing right now. So, this defense I I I don’t think that if you insert any one of these quarterbacks in this scenario that the Vikings are better than three and four, four and three right now, right? Uh so quarterback don’t want let Wentz off the hook or Kevin Okonnell’s uh usage of Kev uh of JJ McCarthy and Carson Wentz, but it’s not there, man. So hopefully it is a spot where you know JJ McCarthy now he’s being asked to be the savior which is way too much pressure. It’s it’s unfair to him where we go from keep the car on the road to save the freaking franchise. We’ll see. But I don’t know. Stringing together some offensive possessions and actually moving the chains and putting us some points on the board, you know, could relieve some pressure on this defense. But also you include special teams. 14 penalties so far for coach Hat and his unit. It’s just I feel like 11 yard end zone or lossi is right. I mean the Vikings entire roster has been disappointing and you know who do you blame? Do you blame Quy? Everyone seems to do it. Do you blame Kevin and the coaching staff? I feel like they skate by on a a lot of of the blame here, which they shouldn’t, where you can only assemble talented players so much, but getting them to play as a cohesive unit, getting the most out of young players and free agents, like that that’s coaching, right? That comes down to Kevin McConnell, Flores, the entire staff. Everything has been everything has been exceedingly disappointing this year. All right. Uh but there’s still time. It’s early in the season. Uh they’re three and four. They’re not dead. They’re not one and six. But you know, McCarthy coming back. I I’m worried that fans are going to be like, “Well, McCarthy is back, so it’s time for him to save the franchise.” That was never the plan. That was never the plan. The plan was, “Hey, defense, stop the run. Get some pressure on somebody. Offensive line, actually stay healthy. Actually get some chemistry going. Actually give your quarterback a damn chance.” you know, whether it’s Wentz, whether it’s McCarthy, whether it’s whoever. All right. And just distribute the ball to all these superstar playmakers and go from there. So, guess we’ll see there. There’s still time. There’s still potential there, but the entire team top to bottom has been pretty underwhelming so far. All right. Anyways, your thoughts or thoughts? Uh, running out of the end zone guy is correct. VI Vikings Rooster not so much this year. Anyways, your thoughts comment section. You guys are the best you know to do. Skull production value.

  1. Message to KOC who I really do respect. "Play the kid". I haven't felt this good about a QB since Tarkenton, yep I'm that old. If we are both wrong then so be it. You committed to him, now turn him loose with a game plan reflective of what he does well.

  2. I blame the offense and KOC. The offense has been stagnant for the first half of almost every game. If you erase the defensive TDs from the CIN game, it wasn't all that great either. Defense is gunna struggle at times, but the Vikes always play from behind. The offense needs to play better.

  3. If everyone treated this year as it shouod be, people wouldn't be disappointed. It's always been a development year, when you decide to go with JJ, all youre hoping for is experience and improvement. The sooner the team and coaches realize that, the better. If they really wanted to contend this year, they would of kept either QBs or signed Rodgers. So just olay JJ and prep for next season, simple. Also, the injuries have to be fixed.

  4. Yes, the defense sucks. But how can you expect a defense to hold up when the offense keeps going 3 and out and can’t hold the ball more than 20 fricking minutes a game?

  5. I tend to disagree when people say "the vikings are built to win now" our entire defense: we don't have a dominant edge rusher. We don't have a dominant linebacker. our corners are a bunch of randoms… Our offense: sure they have a good offense when healthy, but yet in the end the QB is a complete question mark. I think the vikings are doing what they should be doing this year. Average at best

  6. Think about this. During the JJMac draft two things happened. One, on the Pat McAfee show KOC may have revealed his hand by choking on that question about Michael Penix Jr. Then Atlanta surprises everyone by taking Penix at pick 8. Two, then the Vikings panic by moving up to take JJMac after hearing scuttlebutt that Denver was trying to do the same. Denver Coach Sean Payton then comes on the broadcast laughing and saying that he just baited the Vikings into taking JJMac instead of his guy Bo Nix. All Vikings fans immediately claimed BS. But what if Payton was actually telling the truth and he really did have Nix graded higher than JJMac and he fooled the Vikings into taking the inferior JJMac? Vikings could be entering a very sad era with JJMac!

  7. This is a KOC problem. We have talent, but we're not good, and that is a function of the management. Lots and lots to fix, but the key problem is th play-caller.

  8. This is the 4th year of Kwesi and O’Connell. We have 0 playoff wins. I thinks it’s time to call it what it is, bad. O’Connell is a bad coach. Kwesi is a bad GM. Ed Ingram is a stud in Houston. Burn it down, start over. They can’t draft, can’t win, and can’t develop. The only stars on this roster were drafted by Spielman.

  9. We’re in the toughest division in football. 3-4 is very close to a damn death sentence in the North. The O-line is decimated with injuries and very below average and the defense looks like the Cowboys D. To ask JJ to save the franchise is unfair. Honestly I’m at the point where all I want to see is his development for the rest of the season…even if wins don’t follow.

  10. Its 65% coaching, 35% injuries. Wentz was not bad before he got injured. KOC was persistent on playing him.
The biggest issue I see, we are wasting prime years of Justin Jefferson. We saw it with Moss and now with JJ, seems like Vikings have a history of ruining prime productive years of their Wide receivers.
