And if that bet wins, you get $300 in bonus bets to use across the app. What the heck do the Dolphins need now? Uh I am back and KFC did the show yesterday. I’m back today. I’m a little less uh angsty, fired up than what I was yesterday. Uh but still going to continue to have some honest conversations with the Dolphins now sitting at 1 and6. They’ve got road game in Atlanta, tough matchup with that run game. Then the Baltimore Ravens come to town on a short week. uh for Thursday Night Football. Expected to have Lamar Jackson back for that game. Expected to have a number of their their prominent players, Rocoan Smith, Patrick Ricard, all those guys expected after Baltimore’s by this past week to kind of get back into the action. And uh that would be bad news for the Miami Dolphins and Mike McDaniel and company in their bid to pull yourselves out of the tail spin that that we currently find ourselves in as a team. But um what do we need next in the micro and the macro? The short-term and the long term. Um there’s a lot I could probably do three weeks worth of programming on on what I think the Dolphins need organizationally for the next chapter of their franchise. And there’s some interesting stuff that came out courtesy of Barry Jackson, Miami Herald. We’re going to get into that. Uh there’s some teams that I think we should be watching this season as far as sources of inspiration for the new direction of the organization when the time comes. There was an an Easter egg and a nugget hidden by Barry Jackson in uh that story that he dropped that we’re going to get into that as well. But I want to start with Mike McDaniel. And he continues to prove the saying to be true that teams take on the personality of their coach. It was just two three weeks ago that Anthony Weaver said that exact same thing. Um, and what I mean by that with with what Mike did yesterday is when I think about how the Dolphins played against Cleveland and it was kind of um it was an uninspired performance in a lot of ways, but it was the unnecessary self-inflicted wounds that stood out to me amongst the most of the mistakes that Miami made. And Mike McDaniel made some unnecessary wounds when he went to the podium when he was asked about the game tape from the game and about Tua and what Tua’s status is. And it’s at the point now, and I understand when you’re losing, everybody’s going to get the microscope out and they’re going to criticize everything and it’s going to feel different than it would if you were not one in six. And I understand that and Mike’s always been this way and I understand and I look I respect you for not changing but we probably could have done without the my expectation is we don’t throw 10 picks comment. And the full context of that question from Barry was we’re taught not to assume anything in journalism. Two elites the league in interceptions with 10. Uh, I guess we should probably ask you if he’s going to take all the first team practice snaps this week. And will he be your starter for the next several weeks barring injury after Quinn Eers came into the game late against Cleveland? And Mike’s answer was, “Yeah, he’s going to be the he’s going to take the snaps this week and he’s going to be our starter this week. And my expectation is we don’t throw 10 picks.” Hey, do you can we just say, “Yeah, Tuville is a starting quarterback of the Miami Dolphins. We feel he gives us the best chance to win. Obviously, he’s not playing his best right now, but we’re looking forward to applying uh what we what we went through with the film study, uh making those corrections and going out and trying to win a game on Sunday without the extra line, the extra oneliner, right? You said the tape doesn’t lie. What did the tape show you about last night’s loss? We are 100% at losing football games when we don’t play complimentary football. It was that it was as much as the easy answer for one player or position, there was an appropriate effort. The one two, the discipline that it takes to know your assignments inside and out, next to your assignments inside and out was lacking at many times. You give credit to the victor, but the tape left me. I don’t have an opinion on the two teams against each other because we didn’t participate in the game in my opinion. first and foremost is a coach on the hot seat who commits to not being focused that you’re on the hot seat, but you’re aware of it and you know all the noise is here to say to to have that be a line that comes out of your mouth. I don’t have an opinion on the game the teams playing against each other because we didn’t participate in the game. I mean that that’s a self that’s as a a self-inflicted a wound as Zack Caler catching Dylan Gabriel up high around the neck or a holding penalty late in the first half against the Chargers when you get a chance to go in and score a touchdown and you put yourself behind the sticks. It’s not hard to say, you know, we we we did not apply the proper fundamentals and technique and everyone needs to be better and um there’s some calls I wish I would have had back as as we were in the early chapters of that game and we made a few too many mistakes early in that game and you don’t win a lot of football games when you do that and then you try to undo some of your mistakes and it compounds and you make more mistakes and that’s how you finish with 11 penalties, your minus four like You want to throw all the stats out there, that’s fine. But as as everyone in the world is assessing the job that’s being done as the head coach of the team for you to say the coach didn’t the team didn’t participate in the game that’s a bigger self own than to a tongue of Aloa saying that the players aren’t coming to the players only meetings in my opinion because whose job is it to prepare and get the team to participate in the game? It’s you. You’re the head coach. So that those those comments yesterday afternoon really stuck with me. Not for the individual sound bites, but for the embodiment of what you saw on Sunday against Cleveland. Mike kind of comes out and just half-hazardly does the same thing and makes unforced errors in talking to the press. You have to understand how the media like if you didn’t mean for it to be a dig on two to say my expectation is we don’t throw 10 picks. If you did expect it to be a dig, then okay, just light another match, right? The whole house is already on fire. What difference does it make? And okay, like you guys obviously have your thing going on if that’s the case. But if it wasn’t meant to be a dig, you have to understand how the world’s going to take that clip. It’s stuff. So, there’s a lot of focus on a lot of things. Personnel issues exist are at hand. Front office issues exist. They are at hand. Uh, but from the coaching side of things, I don’t have a lot of question about Mike McDaniel’s ability to to draw up and design creative run schemes and and how to build pass action off of that. He did some really creative stuff in the passing game early in his tenure with the team. It’s not about play design. It’s not about the X’s and O’s, but that’s what it’s been for for all of these Dolphins hires. Brian Flores was the same way. There’s a human element that exists to being the general of the team. And yeah, Brian Flores might have been right about not wanting Tua, but his solution was either Deshun Watson or whatever else. He couldn’t. He chased Jim Caldwell out within three months on the job and then ran out of offensive coordinator hires within the end of his first season. Right? there’s more to it than just the X’s and the O’s. And I feel like you saw that embodiment with with what Mike said at the podium yesterday. It it it frustrated me. It did. Uh some personnel moves that I think there there’s some not only trade deadline stuff, but some guys in house that we need to to have some self-awareness with. We’re going to get into that next here live on Dolphins. Make sure you guys stick with us. I’m Cody Ror from Lockdown Broncos and this episode is brought to you by Pelaton. Like our players, we sweat every detail because when you make every move count, impossible becomes irrelevant. Mazda, move and be moved. few odds and ends on the player personnel standpoint and the first one of these being Javon Holland. Javon Holland is no longer a member of the Miami Dolphins. So, Kyle, why is Javon Holland a relevant name that you’re talking about at the start of segment 2 on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. in the morning? I’ll tell you why. Because the Dolphins, when they let Javon Holland walk, left themselves in a position potentially to recoup a fourth round compensatory draft choice for Javon Holland. But they require a certain net gains and losses in free agency amongst players who qualify as as qualifying for the compensatory formula to to get that pick. And the Dolphins have a lot of players. They didn’t spend a lot and they didn’t spend any players near the stratosphere of where Javon Holland was was compensated and paid. But nevertheless, they cancel out the way compensatory pick works. And I’m not doing a whole segment on compensatory pick, so so don’t get mad, okay? I promise this is going to be relatively quick. Players in the same tier that sign an ad cancel each other out first. players uh in a tier below will or a tier above that you lose can cancel out a tier below that you lose first and then vice versa. But it’s all about net. If you lose four and you gain four, you don’t get any competitor picks. If you lose four and you you sign five, you don’t get any competitor picks because you added more than you lost. But if you lose four, when you sign three, you’re minus one in the net, in which case you would qualify for whatever the top net with the way that they cancel out is available to you. Javon Holland is available for the Dolphins. But I want to read some names to you. These are all names that signed this year that qualify as compensatory free agents that are currently on the bubble of qualifying as a player whose contract and playing time suggest that they qualify for either a pick gain or a pick lost. Nick Westbrook Aitu Melano Larry Boram Ashton Davis. It’s a lot of names. And of those names, three of those four currently sit within the bottom 10 players that are currently qualifying according to overthecap.com as net players gained. Which means you’re not going to get a fourth round pick for Javon Holland based off this forecast if the season ended today because of Nick Westbrook, Eafu Malfanu, and Larry Borum with Ashton Davis lingering in the background. Now, I don’t think Ashton Davis is ultimately gonna play himself up like he would have to play every snap the rest of the season to kind of get up into the the playing time increasing his point total enough in the formula to end up qualifying. But Nick Westbrook is playing 50% of the snaps. Eitu Melanu is playing 34% of the snaps. And the Dolphins just benched Dante Trader for E2 Malfano this past week because Dante Trader missed the tackle against the Chargers that allowed the game-winning field goal. Larry Borhams played 90% of the snaps this season because Austin Jackson has been on injured reserve since week two. There are some solutions here. Austin Jackson comes back off injured reserve. Larry Bournem’s no longer playing in a 90% clip. He’s the fourth name above the cutoff line. If he played 5% less snaps, 85% instead of 90, he would not be qualifying for a competitor. So, we need Austin Jackson to come back at some point. That needs to happen. But you’ve got two safeties on this list, EF2 Malfanu and Ashton Davis. You also have Minka Fitzpatrick. Now, one of these guys is getting forced into the nickel. It’s been Minka as of late. If Aston Davis is playing 71% of the snaps and he’s still 24 points away from the qualifying cutoff, I’m sorry, you need to have a big picture conversation with the coaching staff and say Dante Trader needs to play over E2 because these are the conversations that now need to be have because your season’s going the way that it’s going and you’re sitting at 1 and six. Dante Trader is a a rookie fifth round draft choice that you guys apparently really liked. He made obviously a big mistake and a big moment in week six. Week six. Yeah. And I appreciate some accountability even though I think it’s hilarious that you know both Anthony Weaver and Mika Fitzpatrick fell on the sword for that play in particular and then that was the player that you still sat down. Out of all the players who are or are not playing to expectation, Dante Trader is the one that gets set down this past week. Dante Trader needs to play over EF Melon period. Some of these guys like I might be willing to have the um trade deadline conversation. Interestingly enough, Matthew Jeton did not sign in the window to qualify, but he’s another bubble contract. Now, him playing more is not going to hurt you because he didn’t sign in within the window to qualify. He signed late in the summer. But if you trade Matthew Judon to somebody else and he plays more than 24% of the snaps, what can inevitably end up happening is his contract value will still raise up and it could knock some of these players that do qualify down another spot in the formula below the cutoff line. So there’s this is like the inner game within the game for team building and asset management and draft capital and all this stuff and where the economics of it tie back, right? And in the same way that you can say you probably are not going to be able to justify benching a $50 million a year quarterback. I just don’t think like you could justify the benching. At least not in October. If you get to the end of the year and it’s evident that that you know you had the day where the music died and it’s over and it’s not going to be a thing beyond this year and everybody knows it. You get to the end of the year. Yeah, I think you know that conversation can probably be had at some point late in the season. I think October is way too early for it. But it’s not too late for you to have some of these conversations about these guys that are playing with their contracts and what it means for a part of the calculus that all good teams go through every year to maximize the margins and the the resources and the assets that they get. And you got a fifth round draft choice. Are you really going to play EF2 Malfanu on a one-year stop gap contract over a fifth round rookie draft choice that you had when you’re one and six and play yourself out of qualifying for a fourth round compensatory pick as a result of that? That to me would be a whole other level of negligence. and obviously the the coaching staff and Anthony Weaver and the defensive backs coach and Mike McDaniel and Chris Greer like all of these parties that are still currently involved in this. Don’t those can be hard conversations when playing time gets dictated on other things. But that is unfortunately what happens when your team sucks and the Dolphins are not a good football team this year. And as a result, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few and the needs of the many are the future of the Dolphins organization. Now, if you were to trade efanu, even if he qualifies off playing time, he’s their gained player now. He’s not your gain player anymore. I don’t think you’d get a trademark it for ei Westbrook if a team wants a vertical threat down the field wide receiver. Let’s be honest, he’s got no vibes and and and no chemistry with the current passing offense as it’s currently instituted anyway. So, it’s something to keep in mind. This is all courtesy of Nick Corte of Over the Cap. I have the the projection up here now. Westbrook, Aina, E2, Malfanu, Larry Borum, Ashton Davis, all bubble players based off playing time to potentially qualify. If too many of them do qualify, you lose a fourth round draft choice. That that to me cannot h it cannot happen. cannot happen. Voluntarily off playing time for one-year stop gap contracts that were signed for less than $3 million. Can’t happen. All right. Um, some teams to watch across the league and a breadcrumb from Barry Jackson. We’re getting into that next here on Lockdale Dolphins. Make sure you guys stick with us. NFL season is here. Visit FanDuel.com to download the FanDuel app today and get started. All right, let’s start with Barry. Barry Jackson just released this morning on the Miami Herald and it’s it’s you know it’s a herald piece. I’m not going to sit here and read the whole thing. I want to have respect for for Barry and the content. And the content obviously is is a payw wall content, but he produced a a piece that kind of goes through where Steven Ross is at with his ownership of the team and the expectation that his daughter Jennifer and his son-in-law are currently poised and set to serve as the heirs to the organization. Uh the the the daughter Jennifer is is well established. Uh but the other name that’s included here is a Mr. Stillman. And uh this is Steven Ross’s son-in-law. Why having such a hard time scrolling through the um the story? Man, I I hate when you get dead air, too. So, his son-in-law currently is one of the managing the folks who manages the the South Florida Steven Ross sports portfolio that includes the Open and Hard Rock Stadium um and so on. Interesting timing given where this team is at. But the thing that interests me the most was at the very end of the story where Barry alludes to a business associate of Steven Ross saying that Ross entered this season wanting to give both men being Chris Ger and Mike McDaniel an extended period to see if they could get the franchise back on track. Um but did acknowledge that that his Steven Ross’ patience is being tested. That’s on the heels of what was a indirect quote about Stephen Ross’ intentions with the team. And then Barry, maybe a breadcrumb, maybe not. Says a coaching change after Sunday’s game would seem unlikely because the Dolphins play on the short week in Baltimore. And I would agree with that. But the nine-day break between the Ravens game and a home game against Buffalo would give Ross time to re-evaluate if the Dolphins keep losing. which I I do think that becomes kind of your next window here. Once they decided they weren’t going to do anything off the Cleveland game, you’re not going to make a change with a short week with playing at home. So, the I I think Steven Ross has has resigned himself now to at least one more home game with Mike McDaniel as the head coach of the team. And it’s a short week at home on Thursday against a Baltimore team that that is probably going to come in at two and five because they were off last week. They’re currently sitting at one and five. They get Chicago this week who’s won a few in a row. So, so maybe they’re 1-6. You get another team with a losing record that’s multiple games below 500 500. And the the context for Baltimore is different. And I get that. But Baltimore being a team with a losing record coming to town, if they have Lamar Jackson back, that can get very ugly. And if those get very ugly, now you have extra time. And if you don’t make it between the Baltimore rain, the Baltimore game, and the Buffalo game, then your next obvious window is after the buy, which is two games later. So I think you’re kind of going in twoame chunks right now, starting now. And it seems like Barry kind of thought it was interesting in the the spacing of the story where that was tucked very quickly after a business associate said X about the current state of affairs. Dan Stillman, thank you, is the experienced sports executive who’s married to Steven Ross’s other daughter, Kim. So Dan Stillman and Jennifer, Steven Ross’s daughter, currently per this Barry Jackson story, kind of tabbed as the heirs to this franchise. And I do think it it’s prominent where where Jeremy Fowler from ESPN mentioned not that long ago that Steven Ross has his sons involved in this conversation and this the this potential crossroads with the team. So maybe some of that has to do with why there there’s maybe a little bit more of a methodical approach because there’s more going on from the big picture from an ownership standpoint because of where Steven Ross is at uh with the succession plan of his team and where he’s at with his mortality and his age and and he’s in his what mid late 80s. So some interesting layers at play for sure. Now, I have 26 names. 26 names that are executives or potential executive candidates. I I don’t personally favor all of these names, but I’ve I’ve begun this process of working on both general manager and head coach uh candidates. And there’s some teams that I I think are worth looking at and being cognizant of and understanding where they’re at from a team building perspective, what they’ve done from a team building perspective. So, I’m going to read through some of the names. And again, this is not a this is my short list of who I want to be. I’m I’m doing everybody, right? It’s the search firm theory. I could explore everybody and know who I like and who I don’t like and then go from there and pick. So that’s uh George Cookinis from Baltimore who’s the VP of player personnel. That’s Terrence Gray, the assistant general manager in Buffalo. That’s Ian Cunningham, the assistant general manager in Chicago. That’s Glen Cook, the assistant general manager in Cleveland. It’s Will Mcclelay, the vice president of player personnel in Dallas. It’s Ray Agnu, the assistant GM in in Detroit. John Dorsey, a former executive GM, is a senior personnel executive in Detroit. Um people mentioned Lewis Riddick. We’re going to do the Lewis R. We’re going to measure the Lewis Riddick profile against the rest of the people involved here. John Eric Svin, VP of player personnel with the Green Bay Packers. Ed Dodd’s the assistant GM with the the Colts. John McCay with the LA Rams assistant GM. Chad Alexander, assistant GM of the Chargers. Couple of guys inhouse and Marvin Allen who’s been the assistant GM here. Uh Champ Kelly who came here this past offseason as senior personnel executive. Thomas Ditro uh currently a consultant. Brandon Brown, the assistant general manager with the Giants. Donna Ponte, chief administrator of operations for the NFL, has former ties to Steven Ross and the Dolphins organization. Alec Halib with the Eagles. Joe Douglas, formerly the Jets with the Eagles. Andy Widle with the Steelers. Uh Nolan Teasley and Matt Barry with the Seattle Seahawks. One’s the GM, one’s the VP of player acquisition. Mike Greenberg, the assistant GM of the Bucks. It’s it’s more than 20 names. And I’m not done adding to the list either, but it’s more than 20 names. And I’m looking at it through a series of of criteria that I think are important for what the Dolphins need. I’m not ready to have that content piece of it yet. But I did want to shout out a few of the organizations that I think are exceptionally wellrun that have candidates that made this list. That includes the Detroit Lions. I’ve got a great deal of respect for the program that the Lions have built and then they lost both coordinators and they’re still humming right because it’s about the entire house they’ve built is sturdy and strong and off a foundation in which it was built off of patience and building through the draft and they were committed to doing it the right way and now they’re extending their players and they’re getting their internal player evaluations right and that’s all the stuff that this was supposed to be and it’s not because you got a couple flashy names and Tyreek Hill wanted to come play in Miami and build his personal brand and Bradley Chub at the trade deadline was available. Detroit is absolutely an organization that I’m interested in in tying into with the right people with the right connections. Some of their connections tie into the LA Rams, which is another one of the I think gold standard teams with what they did from a draft perspective after they won the Super Bowl and they had the f them picks mentality and then they they they pivoted and went completely the other way. I love how they draft and develop talent. I love how they they dra they they take volume of not even premier draft picks. They know what they’re looking for in players for the schemes that they want to run and they develop those players and they’ll pay I mean but they’re not a big payroll team. Not not right now they’re not anyway. They’ve got a few big names but they I mean they used to pay everybody. They they were a big cash spend. They’re not a big cash spend right now. But they know what they’re looking for in players. They target those players. They’re they’re able to find those players not just in marquee investment opportunities and they develop them. That’s the gold stand, right? I think Tampa Bay kind of fit with with what they have with Jason Light. I think that’s the same thing. You saw a coach transition from Bruce Arens to Todd BS. You saw a quarterback transition from Tom Brady to Baker Mayfield and the the foundation of which that house was built is strong and they stayed strong through it. Philadelphia obviously uh gold standard. Alec Halib kind of has like an untraditional Ivy League background, a little bit more analytics base where Joe Douglas is more the football guy came back after the tenure in um in New York. I will say from that perspective, I think Joe’s got great roots in a couple of great organizations. I think Andy Widel in Pittsburgh’s the same thing between the time that he spent with Philadelphia. Um Seattle is an organization that I have have worked on this process. I I have a great deal of respect for Seattle. Um because it’s now multiple coaches with Mike McDonald and Pete Carroll. It’s multiple quarterback changes, including multiple quarterback changes with quarterbacks that didn’t come with premier investments. Right? Russell Wilson was a mid-round draft choice by John Schneider 15 years ago, 20 years ago, whatever it was, 15 years ago. So, you have a hit there and then you transition to Gino Smith who was in house and you’re you’re better as a passing game and then you decide to move on from Gino Smith and go to Sam Darnold and you’ve struck gold again. These are some of the organizations that I want to be looking at and you I think you should be looking at closely as we decide what direction we think this needs to to go for what the Dolphins need next. That’s it for me. I’m out of here crabs. Keep it locked in here on Locked on Dolphins.

What's the point anymore the organization is so broken.
Radical surgery and Chemotherapy.
Dolphins are in a very bad spot. The team chemistry is gone, coaching staff have lost the locker room and any ground to stand on, and the contracts that are for players that well….. probably didnt deserve them in the first place. A rebuild doesn't work and if it does point to more than one example where it worked for the long haul.
This is tough for you Kyle. It’s hard to sell a losing team. I feel for you. Like your commentary
2 points, no 1. Ross has to be gone and sell the team to someone who cares, no 2 Grier and his assistants should have been gone long ago, Ross can put Grier in charge of stadium bathrooms, that would be a good place for Grier, because the Ross and Grier clown show have devastated this once proud franchise.
A new owner would be nice….I know, I know…I'm dreaming.
Kyle man I have to say you have the voice of reason during such a tumultuous time. What a freaking mess we find ourselves in after such excitement and hope 2 years ago. You should replace Grier. You have better analysis on players than these idiots ever could
Are there any potential GMs coming off injury? We could roll the dice again
Doug Marrone?
I like the LA Rams as a model as well. They can spin up and spin down the draft but have a good idea of what they are as a football organization. So at some point, you make the decision to blow it up and can draft wisely, developing your talent as you say. San Fran was a good place to try to model but Tua is too limiting to make a centerpiece – when he loses his accuracy, that’s everything. So new regime – new QB, introduced slowly when the Offensive Line isn’t a death trap.
Trader did not miss the tackle that cost the chargers game, Jalen Phillips missed the sack, which he always does. He is the worst pass rush finisher I've ever seen. He always gets side stepped by the QB. We need to bench Phillips.
FIRE THE OWNER,THIS IS HIS DOING. Guy is a meddling owner that knows NOTHING about football. Every decision he involves himself in turns into a shitshow. Please,i beg you,SELL THE TEAM!
If they get "Cleveland Browned" in Atlanta next Sunday (a distinct possibility), the scene at the TNF game vs Ravens could get pretty ugly. I can foresee a LOT of empty seats @ Hard Rock for the game vs Poes.
The NFL would flex the Madrid game if that was an option.

Praying for a new GM and HC. Finding a new franchise QB is much tougher but has to happen. This team must build the trenches!! Get young and grow!
As long as we have Grier drafting player, I wouldn't worry about that: He will trade that pick to get another bust player.
Daughter, son in law, nephew, neighbor… I don't care. Anyone can't be worst than Ross.
I think Alec Halaby is a name to keep an eye on. Barry said that Ross' son-in-law, Daniel Sillman, had Brandon Graham as one of his clients on a firm he sold a few years ago. Brandon Graham is a lifelong Eagles' player, and Halaby used to be the guy that worked contracts for them before earning his promotion to Assistant GM. The two probably know each other from a while, and if he's one of the people that will run this franchise after Ross, his relation with one of the hot GM candidates should be noted.
KFC was "Extra Crispy" yesterday!
1. The Fins need a new owner. And 2. They need a new owner after that. Just to permanently wash away the legacy of this reprehensible sack of shit current owner!
I wish I could have a job where zero performance would pay me millions
