New York Islanders Postgame Availability | NYI at PHI (10/25/25)
your assessment of uh that one today? Uh thought it was pretty tight game. Uh a lot both teams had a couple good chances and you know they they uh they got the last one. I guess just you know you guys are leading for most of the game. Just what do you think allowed the Flyers to be able to kind of come back in it, tie it up and then eventually win it? Uh, I mean they’re a good team and we I think we maybe turn it down a little bit at the end there and we I mean they also got a couple power plays and which definitely helps them to get some momentum going and we got to kill that last one off and we Yeah, I think that’s it. You know, short-handed you had that goal in the first period. We know you’ve been able to score short-handed goals in the past. Just take us through what you saw in that play and the finish. No, I thought we we had a good PK there. Uh, couple good sticks and we were able to get it and me and Pedro got on a on a decent two-on-one and I was able to to get the shot off and went in. You know, what did you make of Marshall Warren in his NHL debut? I thought it was great. I mean, two assists. He played very solid uh solid defensively and great kid, great guy. So, I’m super happy for him. And I guess just what lessons do you guys take away from today’s game? Uh, I think it’s just more, you know, you got to play sexy menace like we did against Detroit. um can’t really turn it off against any team in this league and uh just just got to keep building on it. What you said you can’t turn it off. Was it did the Flyers turn it up or or was it more do you feel on your end? I mean when you’re do down a couple goals at the end there you you always turn around and we got to be ready for the push and you know kill off that that PK at the end as well. So I think that’s you know they got a couple which gave them some momentum as well. So, got to kill that off and get going with that. Take us through the emotions of playing your first NHL game and your first NHL points. Yeah, it was pretty emotional. Um, a lot of hard work. Uh, would have loved to get the win there, but it was a really cool experience and, uh, one I’ll remember for a lifetime. Uh, yeah, it’s really emotional. You had that bike. It was cool. I think I almost missed the puck. So, um yeah, you dream about it like how many nights I’ve uh dreamt of that and to when it comes to fruition, it’s really cool. Um yeah, but obviously would have liked to get the win, but it was a good experience and um it was cool learning from everyone and yeah, you know, you had a lot of cheering section here today in the crowd. It’s what it mean to have some friends and family in here for your first game. Uh yeah, it’s that’s what it’s all about really like your friends, family. It takes a village to get here. So, um, really cool for me to have all those people who drove down from New York. And, um, yeah, it’s I can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done for me. Um, you know, I wish my dad could be here, but my grandpa’s in the hospital, so um, hopefully I get to watch the game soon, but yeah. Um, but yeah, it’s really emotional, really cool. Just as far as, you know, the speed of the game, I know you played some preseason games, but how’d you feel out there with the pace and everything? I felt pretty comfortable. I think um you know I worked hard so this summer and um did a lot of work so yeah it was just you’re just playing hockey you know it’s just a game I feel like a lot of people like think this that but no like you’ve been doing it for 20 years uh and everything slowed down a little bit but yeah it was really cool to be out there what are you going to do with the puck from the first point I don’t know uh probably give it to my mom but it was cool like I saw dookie back door and I can make a play like that so it was Nice. And the second one was uh I thought I scored it but s a little too hard but uh you know it was cool. It was cool. So how do you feel Warren played in his NHL debut? I thought he played really well. Um got what a couple of apples here. So he played a really good game. It was was happy for him. Played really well. Just what did you see from your team today? Um, you know what? I thought that we uh we were playing really well, even if they had a little more shot than us. I mean, it was two nothing for us and too bad that we we lost our coverage on that on that goal and give them a bit of life. But regardless that, I like the push that we made after that goal. I mean, we kept going at them and um we had a few more chances and and their goalie makes some great saves and um and then in the sec in the third start of the third, I mean, same thing. I mean, just a miscommunication on our coverage there and and they scored on that to tie the game and we got it back and then they tie again on their power play. So, um I like I like the way we played. I really do. Um, I felt like we um, every time they had a push, I felt like we did a good job defending and um, I thought both goenders made some great saves and they they won the shootout. How do you think Matthew stood up? I mean, it was obvious the Flyers were trying to get under his skin physically. How do you think it was really the first time that concentrated? Yeah, I thought that he kept his focus. I mean, um, but I also like the way our guys responded as well. I mean, that’s that’s that’s what you want to see. I mean, a group that stick together and and when those things happened, everybody was there, nobody, you know, pull away. Is it frustrating to take that many penalties or is that kind of just only what three? I think there were I I don’t know. I mean, if you take the battles, the fighting and stuff. No, I we get what three short-handed that’s all. And and you know what? They come like they come. I mean, I’m not focusing on is it too many or not. I mean, the calls are there and and it’s up to us to uh to find a way to kill those penalties when they happen. Just what do you think of Schaefer at overtime? Obviously, had him out there with the first. He their goal made some great save. I mean, I I really thought the game was in we won the game when the the one made that pass to Orvat. I mean, that was a really good save and I think he made another one. I can’t remember against who, but we had really good chances to win that game. But Schaefer, just him being part of that first group going out for overtime just obviously. Yeah, he he was really good. I mean, um, he’s he was involved in the rush and and did a really good job. Yeah. How do you see Holmes from build on his strong showing the other day tonight where he played played really well. What a goal he scored on the on the um shootout. Um but no, Simon’s been playing some very good hockey. I mean, he’s he’s involved physically. He skates around the net. I’m very happy with
Hear from Marshall Warren, Simon Holmstrom and Head Coach Patrick Roy after today’s game against the Flyers.

In the shootout, why didn't Roy use Heinemen? Matt Barzal?
