Woody Johnson said what he said yesterday. Justin Fields has responded. Same can be said for Aaron Glenn, but let’s first start with who’s actually going to play quarterback for this team on Sunday. Aaron Glenn asked that question earlier and well, he didn’t exactly want to share that answer. What about uh we will have a quarterback on Sunday. I would tell you that not announce I wouldn’t want to give them a competitive advantage when I have that opportunity, but we will have a quarterback. Um, did you The list was long, so for Yeah. Tyrod, did you say his name today? Yes. Yes. What is he dealing with? Uh, he’s dealing with me. That’s something that he had before. So, just, you know, who your starting quarterback’s going to be. You were just not announcing it. So, it isn’t like this week is a competition where you’re going to have, you know, I know who the starting quarterback’s going to be. Okay. Peter’s not telling. Yeah. Okay. He knows who the starting quarterback will be. He just doesn’t want to tell us. Unbelievable. The competitive advantage that is obviously so important for a Jets team that is 0 and seven. You know, the Cincinnati Bengals, they can’t sleep at night getting ready for this game Sunday, not knowing if they’re going to be preparing for a mobile quarterback who can’t throw or a mobile quarterback who can kind of throw. Whoa. If we don’t laugh, you just got to cry. I mean, only the Jets can produce the type of headlines they produce. Like, this is the headline on ESPN.com right now. Jets Glenn says he knows who QB1 will be, but is keeping it a secret. Like, come on, man. Let’s be honest. If Tyrod Taylor doesn’t start, it’s because, you know, he sneezed and cracked a rib getting ready for the game Sunday morning in Cincinnati. I know Tyrod is, you know, dayto day on the injury report. He was listed as limited today in the first injury report that came out. All right. Like Aaron Glenn could say whatever he wants to say, but we know who is going to be the starter Sunday, right? I mean, for just sheer comedy, it would be pretty funny after Woody Johnson completely throws Fields under the bus if Glenn’s like, “We’re actually going to start Justin Fields.” But that’s not going to happen, right? Woody can’t say what he said. And then Aaron Glenn being like, “Yeah, we’re actually gonna go back to Justin Fields.” Like, what? The owner said, “We’d be good if he could complete a pass. You don’t come back from that. No way.” But we know how this goes, right? Cuz this is the Jets. I’m sure Tyrod starts and gets hurt in this game and then Fields has to come in anyway. Like that’s the life of a Jet fan. And honestly, that’s not even just a Jet thing, right? Tyrod Taylor has gotten hurt a lot when he’s been given opportunities to start. It happens a lot. It’s happened against the Jets a lot. We’ve seen it firsthand, right? He got hurt and that started the Baker Mayfield era in Cleveland against the Jets. He got hurt against the Jets in a game I was at a few years ago at Metife in 2023. That started the Tommy Devito era for the Giants. Like it happens. He gets hurt. And Tyrod’s 36. He’s made of glass. So the fact that Woody said what he said, I mean, we’re going to see Fields at some point. We’re not ready for Brady Cook just yet. That’s just how this is going to go. But you just got to laugh at the we will have a quarterback Sunday line from Glenn. Like really? Uh we will have a quarterback on Sunday. Competitive advantage is why he won’t reveal who the starter is for the Jets. You can make a case that the Jets playing anyone is a competitive advantage for that team as they are the only team that is yet to win a football game this NFL season. It’s unbelievable, man. Glenn could play whatever games he wants to play. Tyrod is going to be the starter and he should be the starter. Not because of what he’s saying, what he said, but because if you’re Aaron Glenn, you got to put the guy out there that gives the team the best chance to win. And I’m not here to try and tell you guys that I think Tyrod Taylor’s great. But he at least is not afraid to throw the ball downfield. He’ll throw the ball downfield to the other teams sometimes, too. We saw that Sunday. But Tyrod will give you a good performance more times than not, a quality performance where he’ll give you a shot. He gave them a chance against Tampa in his one full start this year. I was at that game as well. Like Tyrod Taylor is a guy that could come in and you could run your offense. What I didn’t like hearing today though, and maybe this is just semantics or this is just what the Jets coaches told the players to say when asked about who the starter is this week. When they asked Fields what the plan is, he says he wasn’t told who the starter is, which I find hard to believe because Glenn said that he knows who the starter is. And Fields said that they’re rotating reps. I think that Justin Fields is just being told to say that because why would you rotate reps between Fields and Tyrod if Glenn has already come out and said that he knows who the starter is? You would want to give Tyrod all the reps possible to get ready for this game Sunday or the Jets are just so incompetent that they’re still having Fields and Tyrod split reps when the whole point should be you get the starter ready to go play on Sunday. You’re trying to get a win. You’re trying to get your first win of the year. So, I I’m gonna form my own opinion that the Tyrod Taylor, Justin Fields splitting reps at practice today, tomorrow, and Friday is not them actually splitting reps. It’s Tyrod’s getting the reps. Or if they are splitting any sort of reps, it’s because Tyrod’s a little dinged up with a knee thing. But he’s going to start because you’re not going to take away reps from Tyrod for field to this point. You’re just not going to do it. And the other thing is this. if they are actually splitting reps because for whatever reason that’s the plan that highlights another issue that we have with this coaching staff because your offense should look very different whether it’s Fields or Tyra that was the whole point of signing Fields to the contract they gave him. It was, yes, we know that if we have to make him a drop back passer, he’s not shown the ability to do it, but when you combine his ability to make plays as a runner, we’re going to have a dynamic offense like what Jaylen Herz does, like what Lamar Jackson does. But they haven’t done any of that since the first game. Where are the designed runs for Justin Fields? So, it should be a way different offense if it’s Tyrod versus Fields. The problem is when you watch the Jets when Tyrod has come in, it has looked like the same offense that they were calling for Fields. And that’s the problem because it was supposed to look wildly different for Fields. And we only saw it one time and it happened to be the only game where they had any sort of success and that was week one against the Steelers. So the the whole thing is just a total mess. Glenn could say what he wants, but I would be very surprised if Tyrod Taylor is not the starter Sunday. But in typical jet luck, he could go down and Fields would then have to come in. And how does Justin Fields feel about playing for a team whose owner came out and threw him under the bus? Well, Justin Fields was asked about those comments earlier. And he claims he didn’t even know what was said. Yeah. Okay. Here’s Justin Fields. Justin, what was um your reaction to We Johnson’s comments yesterday? I didn’t I didn’t see any comments. I’m not y’all know I’m not on, you know, social media. Nobody briefed you here that with the Jets. What he said? Uh not not really. He was highly critical of you. Uh he basically said, you know, if you guys could complete a pass, things would look good here. Um he he kind of said the quarterback play the can’t win with a quarterback with a rating like they have. Like you weren’t aware of any of that. Nah, I wasn’t. Like I said, I’m not on social media. Um it doesn’t bother me. Um it doesn’t um you know of course everybody knows you know I need to I need to play better. We need to play better as a team. Um and of course you know no matter how you know the offense does as a unit you know I’m going to get the blame and I understand that. That’s just what comes with the job. But um honestly um it’s what comes with it. So you can’t let anything um kind of affect your mind. My mind and um that’s that’s what it is. no matter if it’s, you know, him, no matter if it’s, you know, family members, even teammates, sometimes you’re going to be, there’s going to be times where you have to be the only one who believes in yourself. So, um, you know, like I said, that’s his opinion. And, um, like I told you guys after the game on on Sunday, I’m at peace and all I’m focused is right now is, uh, working each and every day and and, uh, getting better. So, yeah. I mean, with all due respect to Justin Fields, I’m supposed to believe that in this day and age, a family member, a friend, someone didn’t tell him what was said. Come on. Now, look, he can say whatever he wants. And Justin Fields, I didn’t think was going to go scorched earth, but I’m sure deep down he didn’t like hearing what he said. It’s human nature. And let me make this clear. I think Justin Fields is terrible. All right? He he ranks 31st out of 33 qualified passers in total QBR. He has been brutal this year. They have scored four touchdowns their last four games. They have not scored a touchdown in the first half of any game that he has started since week one. I think Justin Fields is a bad quarterback. Woody Johnson saying what he said was a dumb dumb thing for a billionaire owner CEO of the football team to say about one of the players on the team. It’s not about Justin Fields. It’s about the perception of the organization. This is why the Jets players last year, Gabe Woody Johnson in F in those report cards, stuff like this, right? The the food truck story that’s out there, NYJ Matt breaking that one on social media the other day that the Jets had food trucks for the players on Fridays after practice and about midway through the year when the Jets started losing, Woody pulled the food trucks. So Aaron Rogers spent 10 grand to get the food trucks back every single week for his teammates. Like this is the stuff that worries you about the Jets and and that’s why when you hear the expression like it starts at the top. This is what we’re talking about. It’s a bad thing for Woody to sound like a drunk fan in in L5 talking about his quarterback. He’s not wrong. Fields is bad. You can’t say it. And my issue with Woody is if you’re saying that the only reason why Aaron Glenn’s not doing well is because of the quarterback, who signed the quarterback? Who recommended the quarterback? Who talked up the quarterback? Your coach. So, what happens now for Woody? If the guy that he still wants to believe in and is giving a hug to every week, to quote him, power of friendship, baby, what happens if Tyrod Taylor can’t get the Jets to look that much better on offense? Like, they’re still not winning games. What does what do you expect the rest of the way? He said, “Hey, you know, the defense and special teams have improved. I mean, the defense has played well for two straight games. They were horrific at the beginning of the year, and it never made any sense why they were so bad. So, what happens now? What happens if Justin Fields has to go in? I mean, he handled it like a pro there, so seemingly he’ll be okay, but I don’t know. It’s just it’s such a mess. And only the Jets could give us headlines like this. Glenn knows who his quarterback is, but he’s keeping it a secret. You know, Zack Taylor cannot sleep this entire week not knowing who he’s going to be going up against. I mean, it’s just it’s just funny to laugh, man. Because this season is such a bleep show. And I promise you, no matter who the quarterback is, the Jets do not have an advantage. They don’t. You got to laugh, Glenn wouldn’t tell us who the quarterback is, but he did provide the info that matters the most. Uh, we will have a quarterback on Sunday. Hell yeah, baby. Hell yeah. Um, I would say they’ve one of my former college teammates, the Bengals OC, um, and know some people in Cincy. So, there’s a kid on the practice squad that went to Courtland. There’s a there’s a big Courtland contingent in uh, in Cincy and also apparently a cool city, but there’s a good chance I am not going. Um, we were supposed to We’ll see. We’ll see. It’s supposed to be nice weather. Maybe I’ll, you know, maybe I won’t drag Jamie to uh to uh to Cincy this time. You’re unbelievable. Uh, what do you make of our quarterback mystery here? I mean, I I I said it. I’m sure you agree. I think it’s going to be Tyrod. It would be hilarious if he went back to Fields, but what do you make of Glenn’s approach here not revealing who it is? So like I don’t want to sit here and kill him for something that you know whatever. It’s very like Bellich check parcels to be like oh we’re not going to you know the little bit different styles. Um I think it’s pretty clear it’s going to be Tyron. Um I think that both guys did a good job of you know both QBs did a good job of hitting the talking points that they were probably supposed to hit. Um, I think Tyrod’s knee is probably going to be in he’s going to be questionable every game the rest of the year because he’s 36 years old and he had his knee scoped four or five weeks ago. Uh, but you know, I just Jake, I really I don’t think there was a chance it could have been fields before what like regard wipe Woody’s comments out, right? Like just like take those out of the equation. Jake, you lose the locker room if you start Fields again. You just do. And and I I know a lot of people are hard on Glenn and I don’t I understand they’re 0 and seven and I totally get it, but like he’s not that dumb. Like he saw the way like they couldn’t run a Hail Mary because they didn’t trust Fields to like not take a sack and fumble, right? So like I think he’s aware as well. Um and yeah, like I said, I just I have a hard time believing unless Tyrod’s truly not healthy that you know that Fields is the starter on Sunday. I I would be shocked and you nailed it. You’d lose the locker room at this point. Like you got to give Tyrod a full week of prep. Let him go out there and play just for the sake of your team right now. You haven’t scored a touchdown in two games. And I understand Tyrod wasn’t great when he came in in the second half of that game Sunday that you and I were at, but he at least was giving guys a chance to make plays. I’ve never seen Justin Fields play this bad. I never thought he was good, Will. But that’s my big thing, right? Like Woody could rip Fields and back Aaron Glenn. The problem is while Fields has never been good, he’s also never been this bad. And this coaching staff and especially this head coach was humping and puffing his chest. Like they they said they were going to be able to unlock Fields and let him play quarterback. Well, he’s never been this bad. So that that is a major indictment on this staff. And beyond just losing the locker room, the big picture questions on who this staff is and what they’re capable of doing and whether or not they should be given the keys to draft the quarterback first overall. That’s where I’m at because we know the future quarterback is not on this team right now. See this Germaine tweet? Oh, no. What do you say? Oh, it’s a good Germaine tweet. Fans will like this. I He did that. I’m not I’m not [ __ ] leaving. It’s pretty cool. I don’t know. I think Listen, man. I I don’t I understand they’re going to need more draft capital. This roster’s a mess. Germaine’s going to be 27. He’s on, you know, he’s not been the pass rusher down by down I think everyone was hoping for his first year off the Achilles. But like the Jets need more Germaine Johnson’s, not less. And um unless you’re really getting to get a two and a four and you feel like you feel good about it and you weren’t going to extend them and and the whole thing, but like man, I I don’t know. I I I understand we’re not talking about Germaine right now, but it just to me to settle for a third or fourth round pick. Maybe a three and a five the Leonard Williams package you consider. Uh but other than that, like you can’t just it can’t be a one pick thing if like it’s not going to be a top 60 to 65 pick. I would not trade Germaine. Wouldn’t trade Quinn now either. So I would trade I have like a I have a bar, right? I think Quinnon like if the Cowboys gave you a one and a three right now, you probably have to do it. If some if some you know Philly comes to you and gives you a two and a four for Germaine, you probably have to do it. Um, do I want to do it? No. But like, hey, it’s probably Well, you have someone came to you and gave you a two for Will McDonald right now. I think it’s you have to think about it, right? Like there’s Jake, I don’t know. I’m sure this is messing up your So, I just went up full host mode right there. Every guy I feel like that’s rumored, right, that could be moved. There’s a bar. There’s like what you’d accept, what you really want, and then anything below that you you can’t do. I’m sorry. Like, I understand the Jets are a mess right now and the whole thing. When you trade guys like Germaine and Q are kind of the heartbeat of the guys that play hard every Sunday or that show up every Sunday, you got to be really careful when you if you sell low on those guys, you just you got to be really careful. Can’t do it. I’m 100% with you. Let’s talk about Woody’s comments. Yep. Why? Why? Seriously, I understand that Justin Field’s terrible, but like does he have just yesmen around him? Does is there no one that could tell him, “Hey, your words carry weight. You can’t sound like a fan.” Answer that question. But it’s like like this is the problem because you just hurt the perception of the organization. You make it harder to eventually get a good coach to come here if you go one and 16 and have to fire Aaron Glenn after a year. It It’s just why, man? Like why why is Woody Johnson wearing a Crystal Palace hat crapping all over a quarterback he gave $30 million to? Guaranteed. He looks like a fool. Yeah. So to answer your question, yeah, there’s too many Yes, man. Um B, it’s an What’s tough about what he’s done over the last I’ll just do this the last 12 months, right? Let’s just go from Broncos game forward from last year. he’s kind of been right on every single thing. The problem is is he’s either overstepped when he didn’t need to. Um or in this case, he’s not wrong. Nothing he said was wrong. He’s showing, you know, a guy that the coach that he hired that he, you know, for the first time in quite some time, he was very involved in he still believes in Glenn. The quarterback is their biggest issue. You know, he can’t complete a forward. Like nothing he really said was wrong. Jake, it’s just felt like it’s just it feeds into the narrative of like look how embarrassing the Jets are. And again, like and makes Glenn’s job tough. Look, I think Aaron Glenn’s done a terrible job today, right? Like that sucks for Glenn. I’m sorry. I feel bad for him. He had to go out there and answer questions. That’s what I’m saying. I thought Glenn, can I just say this? I thought Aaron Glenn had a really good press conference today. Like I actually was like, you know, he handled this well. He shouldn’t be in a spot where he has to be asked these questions about Justin Fields being thrown under the bus by his owner. like that. That’s what I’m talking about. Like I don’t think Aaron Glenn’s done a good job at all. I think he’s been horrific, but he shouldn’t be put in a spot where as he’s trying to dig out of this hole and prove he could coach and turn things around. He’s got to deal with these questions and the impact it maybe has on the locker room. How do you think Garrett Wilson feels about his best friend, his college teammate being thrown under the bus by the owner of the team? It’s a bad bad job by Woody Johnson. And people not understanding that. I don’t get it. Necessary. Look, I’m not going to sit here and tell you I didn’t laugh at the Well, if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry. I mean, come on. Yeah. I first of all, I can put together a full sentence, [ __ ] Um, but the funniest part of the funniest part is I just saw the quote first. I didn’t even see the full video. The video is so much funnier. Woody literally go if you complete a Ford pass. And then, of course, he did the rating thing. We all think he’s talking about quarterback ratings, but of course, the Madden ratings thing pops into it. The Crystal Palace thing. Dude, the funniest part of this whole thing is Woody apparently from all accounts said, “I have nothing to say, no comment.” And then talked for 15 minutes. Like it just to me like listen man again if you really go back through it right Woody over the last 12 months Rogers was objectively terrible when he was hurt and it was like he might it probably would have been better off for the Jets last year if he sat for two weeks. wasn’t wrong. Again, it’s the way it gets communicated. Devonte Adams like was a really good player and he wanted to go trade for him. Totally get it. He wanted to trade Allen Lazard for Jerry Judy. He was probably right, right? Like Tony Adams stunk. He wanted to bench. Again, it’s not necessarily the concept that he’s always wrong because I actually don’t think he’s always wrong about a lot of these things. Salah wasn’t a good head coach. He probably should have been fired five weeks prior. Like it it doesn’t it’s not about that. It’s just a the optics and the way these things are kind of it’s like seems like it’s a cluster [ __ ] all the time. Oh, I’ll give you a cluster. You just complete a pass. It would look good. You know, you got to complete some. You got to convince them that you can do something otherwise it’s hard to have uh you know have a kaka a game that uh you can win backtoback days. We’ve gotten that from the owner and we got this from the head coach today. Uh we will have a quarterback on Sunday. It’s just the season, man. You got to laugh because like it’s not getting better, Will. Like they’re finishing with two wins or less. Like this is going to be one of those years where this is just going to be an absolute train wreck. I’d love to be wrong. I don’t think I am, though. I like I we we’ve been around this too many times. We know exactly what we’re looking at here. I listen I I tweeted it yesterday. I’m telling you, it’s the most Jets thing of all time. They’re going to go three and 14. They’re going to win one of these next two and then they’re going to suck for like the next three weeks. After that, they’re going to win two of the last four games, let’s call it. Brady Cook is going to play some of the most egregiously bad football you’ve ever seen. But they’re going to win two games because the NFL is so stupid. And they’re going to finish three and 14. They’re going to pick like third, which is fine. It doesn’t matter. There’s five good quarterbacks in this class. But we’re going to have a quarter of this fan base who wants Glenn fired. and no matter what and nothing is good enough unless he’s fired. I think it’s higher than a quarter to be fair. No, no, no. I’m saying if this scenario plays out, they win three games, like they look a little better, you know, they have some punchy wins. There’s 50% of the fan base that kind of wants him fired but accepts he’s coming back and it’s just excited about the quarterback class and like it’s there’s, you know, the wars of Simpson verse Mendoza, verse Matier, verse Moore. And then there’s gonna be 25% Jake that convince themselves that Brady Cook is gonna be the next like best thing because he won two games and they’re going to be like, “We got to trade back. We we got to do it. We’ll we’ll pick a guy in the third round.” Like I just I know it’s going to happen. It happens every time or like they either don’t tank quote unquote properly. They don’t really they don’t suck correctly. Pause. And like we’re going to have the Brady Cook versus John Matier versus Fernando Mendoza versus Aaron Glenn Truthers and it’s going to be shameless on these uh on these Twitter streets. Well, do you think the Jets have any chance to turn it around because of the power of friendship? It the funniest part Jake too is before that quote Diana asked him and he’s like I know you think I’m a liar. Did you catch that? Obviously, they wrote that, you know, her and Zach wrote two a couple pieces, you know. Wait, she wrote she said to him, “I know you think I’m a liar.” No, he said that to her. He literally goes He goes, he goes, “I know you don’t believe me and I know you think I’m a liar.” About about Aaron Glenn or Yeah, just in general. He’s like, “I know you guys all think I’m a liar.” Go, I’m telling you, if you can find the video, it’s when they ask him about hugging Glenn. Ask him about hugging Glenn. What a lie. This season’s unbelievable. The most ridiculous. Like, dude, I don’t understand. Like, I watch a lot of reality TV. My wife, you know, is loves reality TV and and you know, some of it’s entertaining. I feel like I’m watching Love Island. Like, it just gets messier by the day. It’s people who have like great character. They come into the villa, they’re just absolute [ __ ] when they get there because like it just changes you. I don’t know, man. There’s They are nothing but entertaining in a bad way, in a good way. Woody’s amazing, man. Every year he just gives us bangers. It’s Dude, I gotta be honest, man. There like He is hilarious. Like, I know it’s like it’s obviously brutal. Well, it’s sad because it ultimately starts with him and like the people that say they’ll never win with him as the owner. Like, I never wanted to believe that, but then you see these comments yesterday and you see why this organization hasn’t been to the playoffs in 15 years. It starts with him. Yeah, it’s it’s it’s very tough. Um, I don’t think that Woody has always been a bad owner. I think that the problem is is that he’s kind of been in and out and this is his biggest test. And again, I know we’re asking somebody in the, you know, to change in the whole thing, but like Woody did a lot of what we wanted this off season. He stayed out of the picture. The Jets did spend money. They invested, you know, they redid the locker room. They did a lot of stuff that people like, you know, around the Jets were looking for. cleared out a lot of, you know, more veteran front office people, some people on the administration and business side, moved on. He stayed out of the picture. He, you know, hired the search firm like he hired the a lot of the candidate that a lot of people wanted. It’s not like they they, you know, invested more in analytics. Like there is things that what he’s done over the last five to six months. That is what fans wanted. The funny part is like it took eight weeks of them being dog ass for like this to kind of come up again. Well, let’s talk about that though, right? Because to your point, he threw Fields under the bus. What happens if the offense still doesn’t look good and they’re still losing? I know for a fact Woody Johnson was not sold on this team being the worst in football this year, picking number one overall. At what point? You don’t buy the uh you don’t buy the conspiracy theory that uh him and Glenn had a handshake deal that they were gonna purposely be ass. Yep. That’s why they gave Fields 30 million guaranteed and split Rogers captain up over two years. They don’t want the Steven Ross thing, you know? They don’t want to they don’t want anyone catching on to their scent. Like here’s the thing, Will. I like if this doesn’t look any better, right? It might look a little better with Tyrod, but I don’t think they’re going to win a whole lot of games here. I don’t think you do either. So, I think Yeah. I think Jake, let’s be realistic. I’m I’m as optimistic as it gets. I think I think they’re at most a three- win team right now. And so what does that what does that mean for Glenn, right? Does that mean like he’s he could be one and done? Because I think he could because I think Woody is going out of his way to defend Glenn now. Gerard Mayo got a public endorsement for Robert Crab his last year and only year around this time. So Jake, my only my only push back and I and again I I like Connor and Joe and and the rest of the Badlands crew is like I’m on the same page of like, hey, this is not a guaranteed he’s back. I’m probably more sold he’s back because I think Mayo’s back last year and I I don’t think I know Mayo’s back if Varel’s not on the market and like Varel didn’t give them the like come get me type of situation. The only reason I say that is like is there going to be a candidate out there picking you know use somebody other than Rex. Let’s not use Rex. Let’s use like John Harbaugh. Let’s say John Harbaugh is we know he’s going to get fired and after about two days into like the coaching cycle, there’s backching of like he’d be open to this job. That’s the only way I think unless they go 0 and 17 that this happens where like Woody bails on the guy he hired. Sorry, I don’t know why my dog’s being a maniac. Um that he hired and like he fires him in one year. I don’t think Woody wants the, you know, optics of that. But I do think like there is a there’s a world Jake like they can’t go 0 and 17 like that that that 15 shouldn’t save them either. Robert Solo won four games. Yeah, I know. I mean Will, let’s be honest. This is not the Gase team that won two games and that team won two games. Solo won four with Zach Wilson and a way worse team. Like this is a joke. This defense has three former first team all pros on it. They had a 10 sack a year guy in McDonald. They had JJ coming back who’s looked really good. You can’t. Quincy’s now coming back. Sherwood, they paid. Stevens, they paid offensively. How many first round picks are on this O line? Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall. If you win two games, he should go. Why are we letting him pick Mendoza or Matier or Sellers or whoever? Why hire Mike McCarthy, hire Cliff Kingsbury. They would want this job. It’s the first pick in the draft. A good O line, a number one receiver, players on defense, and you pick your quarterback. You could turn it around quick. Houston did it. The Commanders did it. It doesn’t take three to four years to rebuild if you get the coaching quarterback, right? New England’s the latest example of that. Yeah. No, look, I I’m not sitting here saying it’s like, what does he do well though, Will, like when you look at Aaron Glenn, what has he done? Because I’m going to say this to Tannob on Sunday. Name the one thing other than the kicker and the punter that has improved on this football team from where it was a year ago in the prior years. So, it’s only been two weeks and needs to continue. So, these are like big ifs, right, Jake? If the defense continues to play at the level it’s played at the last two weeks, I would say the defense is better than it was a year ago and the defense improved. Um, again, that’s also partly to guys like JJ coming back. There’s less talent this year than last year, but like I would say in general, like you could point to potentially point to the defense. Not yet, right, Jake? It’s only been two weeks. The defense was god awful, you know, for for better parts of the first five weeks. I think specials is better. I’m being just like I’m literally going through the checklist in my head. I think the offensive line’s better. I think he did hire the right offensive line coach. Although again, like they should go get Bill Callahan if they have they have an opportunity to bring him back. And like even if he’s just an adviser, like more, you know, more eyes in the room. Um I think the running backs are it’s hard to tell because they’re practices have been better. John makes a good point. A lot of great practices. Um I think Glenn Glenn had his best week last week, Jake. I don’t know if he felt like this. Um, I thought he did well with challenges. I thought he went for it on fourth down when he needed to. Everything but the fir the first half taking the timeout into the locker room because you can’t feel Hail Mary really. I feel pretty good. That’s like ultimately what got Fields benched was like, dude, we this is week two in a row and it’s like because it comes back on Glenn and it should Glenn said it. He’s like I own the last four minutes of each half. If you can’t trust Fields there, he can’t be in the game. I and again like that that can’t happen again now that Fields is not your quarterback or so we think you can’t if they’re in that situation again there’s no way you can that’s acceptable you know what I mean like you’ve kind of used a lot of goodwill and kind of some of your get out of jail free cards seven weeks in which is tough to be 0 and7 and Woody Woody has basically given him a pass for 0 and7 by playing blaming just the quarterback but here’s the problem one Glenn wanted this quarterback that doesn’t get brought up by Woody Johnson cuz he has no clue. And and two, if it still looks bad now with Tyrod and they’re still not winning, I wonder when Woody’s like, uhoh, like we can’t we can’t run it back with this New England game that’s going to be if they get run off the field in both New England games. Thursday Night Football is the first one, right? That’s the only prime time one left. And they get run off the field. Um like, you know, I’m not going to get into the season ticket holder thing. It’s my biggest like for some reason everyone loves to give me like a hard time that I still go to games. Like I like going to games man. And if you don’t like that like not sure what to tell you. Woody Johnson makes a lot more money and so is every owner off of how much the billions of dollars they make from the TV contracts. Um as opposed to you know my shitty upper deck seats. But, um, look, man, I I I really I truly think like Jake needs if they lose every game like they did last week, the rest of the season or some form of that, he’ll be safe. Like, he just will because they’ll be like, look, the specials, the defense, we’re being aggressive, we don’t have they haven’t scored a touchdown in two weeks. No, no, I my point is like, hey, they lose like 2020, end of 2022 where it’s like, our defense is good, our our specials are good, the quarterback’s the issue, right? Like if that’s what happens, like sure that’s your get out of jail free card. My issue, Jake, is like they cannot have what happened in Dallas and Buffalo happen three, four times down this stretch. You won’t you don’t you just won’t make it like or London where it’s clear the coaching cost them. Well, yeah. Like I’m really hoping that um I know they’ve made some adjustments and things around like in-game decisions and and things like that and and looked good last week in terms of like I agreed with the punt at the end of the game, Jake. I it’s embarrassing that it had to be that way, but like the the fourth and 10 punt to me made sense. I know they didn’t get the ball back, but they had a better chance of getting the ball back there and than the game completing that fourth down. They were never completing fourth and 10 with Josh Reynolds and empty shirt Alen Lazard. So again, I’m not trying to it’s kid gloves and it’s it’s probably a week too late of like benching Tony Adams and benching Fields and things like that, but I need to see that continue like at a bare minimum, dude. And just for the sanity of like the rest of the staff, too. I need to see like how they handle the trade deadline. A I think that’s going to be huge. I don’t know that they’re going to be huge sellers. I I I’m not convinced of that. I know everyone thinks they’re just going to sell everything. Um, I hope they don’t because I don’t want them to then use that as an excuse why that’s their other get out of jail free, right? Is, hey, the roster sucks. That’s what Solid Douglas used for like five years. Oh, XFL roster, man. It’s like, dude, you guys have made n and they still won more games than Aaron Glenn’s going to sniff in all likelihood this year. That’s the problem, Will. There’s not one thing on this team that is significantly better, even close to better than it was last year. Like, you can say the O line, but like the O line has an infusion of talent. Olu’s playing the full year. Membu was the seventh pick in the draft. like it to me there’s just not enough there’s not enough improvement and Justin Fields being this bad is a major red flag because that was who they wanted and talked up and coached up and said that they were going to let him play quarterback like it just it’s concerning man this was this was Aaron Glenn in June talking about Justin Fields will he can galvanize a group of men um listen obviously he’s a talented player and listen I’m happy that I have him as my quarterback I really am cuz I think I think this is the limit for this player. I really do. Listen, I’m I’m not going to go out there and say that he’s the next Joe name with anything like that. But I would tell you what, man, he’s going to be a good player for us. And I’m excited what he’s going to do for us this season. We went from that to the owner coming out saying if we can just complete a pass, it would look good. Talking about the guy that Aaron Glenn couldn’t wait to have and it was excited. And you know, they compared him to Darnold and Mayfield having resurgence. Like why would you give Tanner Angstrand the opportunity to oversee the development of Fernando Mendoza? Like he just he’s done nothing. They have not scored a first half touchdown since week one. Bree Hall has had three total targets the last two games. Three of them came all against the Panthers in a game they knew all week Garrett Wilson was not going to play in. They are inept. They are an inept coaching staff. And I’m sorry, they need to show a lot more than just not get blown out in some games here if they’re going to survive. They shouldn’t. Now, they might survive because we know the owner has no clue what he’s doing and probably doesn’t want to admit a mistake just a year in. That might save them. But as far as what we’re seeing as fans, it’s despicable what we’re seeing as fans. It’s enough. Yeah, it needs to It needs to It needs to be better. Um there’s no doubt about it. I’m not like just like capping for Glenn. Like I have I don’t met the guy a couple times. I don’t really have any like there’s nothing I’m not like I don’t have a reason to like back. I think we all want him to be good. He’s a former Jet who wanted a job. We can’t blindly support him. I think that like this will be interesting. And again, I don’t know how long um I don’t know how long we’re going to get Tyrod, right? like I you know he gets hurt like it’s unfortunate it’s been the we will see Brady Cook start games this year. Jesus Christ. Um you know I don’t know I I saw some people like oh should the Jets go trade for a quarterback? Like first of all the Tanner McKe is going to cost too much and I don’t think it’s worth it. And the only person I guess you could be like, “Hey, should we just if Garrett’s healthy like do we just trade for Jamus and like let him just but like he’s kind of like Tyrod with like with all the drama.” Um, in terms of like Tyrod throws it up and I do hope Garrett plays because it’ll be like Garrett will get 150 targets and at least it’s good for it’s good for him and you know makes it a little more fun. Um, the reason I say the Tyrod piece is because like at least I think we’ll see more of Angstrand’s offense. Now, I still, you know, one problem with Tyro is he still holds the ball for an hour as well. Like he him and Fields do the same thing. It’s just Tyrod throws the football, Fields doesn’t. So, yeah, I think it’s the Laf floor thing again, dude, from from three years ago where it’s like, is the OC bad or is the quarterback suck ass? And it’s like, it’s hard sometimes to tell because with Zack, they were dumbing it down. With Justin, they have a very, very limited playbook. I want to see what it looks like. guys were open like Angstran in the second half it was at least like on Sunday I was like oh they’re actually being creative guys are running like go balls and there’s you know the trick play and different things like that like it’s not saying it’s good but I I I really just want to see what it looks like when it’s not fields like for an extended can we get a three-week stretch of Tyrod games you know where it’s oh okay Angran’s really being creative here like there’s some reason to have faith in it again it’s it’s such a low bar dude But at least it would be something as opposed to right now it’s like couldn’t tell you if the game plan in the script is good because like they can’t do anything because the quarterback so so gunshy. So um yeah again I’m not disagreeing with you. I just think this is a huge stretch for them where you got to see legitimate like the schemes working some of the coaching like the young player like they got to hope Malachi Moore’s got to keep playing well and Zary Thomas if he plays on Sunday he’s got to you know try to hold his own and things like that because that’s what gets you another year right Jake it’s like hey man we got to we have a ton of picks look what we just did with our first draft like we got five starters and like that’s that’s the way you talk yourself into another year and in some ways I wouldn’t disagree three. Um, the quarterback is going to be, and again, this is a conversation we’ll have for the next six months. No matter who they take a quarterback, I swear to God, I swear to God, if they take a quarterback that’s traits over mental makeup, I will there’ll be a gun in my mouth. There’ll be a full AK-47 in my mouth because man like if you haven’t learned anything here Justin Fields super trady Zach Wilson Trady Sam Darnold trades dude the guys that work what have worked here have thick ass skin they have their heartbeat drops when everybody else’s rises like those are like those little things man where they got to do a really really goddamn good job of making sure like the mental makeup on whoever they takedoza more here Simpson whoever it is that’s the most important thing I do not care I care a little bit but I do not care that you can throw the ball 78 miles an hour versus 74 don’t care that’s cool that’s awesome Jake who’s been good here Vinnie right Vinnie is like the most classic he’s like a cornerback and like a closer like that dude would blow a save and then come back and do the same thing over and Chad super strong mental makeup right like Sanchez to an extent really strong mental makeup until you know until things went off the rails and obviously we’re not going to touch on what happened recently but court date sent for December by the way go Sam until Sam until recently those guys mental makeups were just not good enough from like the confidence forgetting about it you know when they make it’s different here just like that was my whole argument on not wanting it it’s that was my whole argument on not wanting a first time head coach and a first time GM. Like, at least have someone with experience that’s in these roles because he’s doing the same thing over and over again. And it’s not Glenn’s fault that the playoff was 14 years when he took over, but he’s not going to get the same leeway as he’s learning on the job when we’re seeing incompetence again. And it’s never been this level of incompetence. And there’s actual players on this team, which makes it frustrating. So, I’m with you, man. I I I I think that but that’s part of the reason why I don’t want this regime making that pick. They haven’t earned the opportunity to take a quarterback first overall. Especially who think they would take right now. Who would I take? Who would you take? And then who do you think they would take? Just curious. I don’t know enough about what they like in a quarterback because like all I could go off of is Justin Fields and Angstrand had Jared Goff. But I do know this. Evidence is on my side that if they let this clueless regime take a quarterback first overall, if it doesn’t improve, that Aaron Glenn will not be long for the job. will be fired in the middle of next year like Carol Callahan was or he’ll be fired at the end of the season like all these other coaches were. I I do the only argument I’d have with that graphic is Frank Reich being on there is hilarious because those guys didn’t even make it a full season. That was their first year. Um those guys made it like that was the Steve Wilshshire. They made it like what nine games. Um I don’t that was the craziest disaster of like a trade plus regime. Um yeah. No, they figured it out already. Think about that. As bad as it is, Jet fans, Carolina was even worse and they figured it out. I think right now I would say they probably would take Mendoza. Um, if I had to guess, he’s the most golflike of the prospects. Um, I think you know who I would take. I don’t know. Ty Simpson to me scares me, man. That’s scary. Seven starts. And what’s tough is like I don’t know is Glenn like I guess the question is going to be is Glenn going to abide by the parcels’s you know team captain got to have started 25 30 games whatever it is because Mendoza is that right he’s I’m not Parcels I’m Aaron Glenn and then he’s got to go call a coach before he makes any sort of decision what are your thoughts is he calling 99 Jeff Fischer is he calling 206 Jeff Fisher for me personally being to ask um other coaches that been in a situation, but how would they handle that? If you couldn’t tell, well, I’m absolutely disgusted with the state of this franchise right now. Most content creators in 2021 were all pro taking Zach Wilson anti-eping. Dude, my entire podcast launched on keeping Sam Donald. So, uh, you can include other people in that. I can tell you I was a I was good with Zack. I’d be the first to tell you. But that wasn’t even a hot take. Like people are like, “Oh, how could they have done that?” Like every top draft analyst had the quarterbacks pretty much rated one Lawrence, two Wilson, three Fields like that. And then there were some like M. Jones or Tre Lancelov sprinkled in there. But that for the most part, those were the main like Jeremiah had Zack Wilson as the second best quarterback. Kyper, Mcshay, they all like the guys who do it for a living all thought that was the pick to make for the Jets. I do think I do wonder like I wonder if AG is calling other coaches that are in the league right now and like he just can’t say it. I’m kind like I don’t Do you think he’s in over his head? I think he’s swimming right now. I don’t think he’s in over his head per se and maybe he is and it’s but he is certainly swimming like there is no there’s no I think he thought this was going to be a lot easier than it’s been. That’s my read on it. like he came in very confident and like I think he thought that this team was going to be able to thought they were going to win week one and it was going to carry them through the first month of the season and they them losing like all those bad habits reverted and now it’s like all that like trash attitude from the last regime is still there and it’s like really hard to break that. I I talked about on your show and literally in week two after after the Bills game I’m like dude there’s a rod here that like it doesn’t happen overnight. The problem is is like winning week one and again it’s it’s it is what it is but like I just I really wonder like what’s this they’re probably three and four as opposed to you know 0 and seven three and four you feel a lot better about this team we’d be like holy holy [ __ ] like that’s where they should be that’s where a lot of us thought they could be with the talent on this team. The biggest thing that drives me nuts with Glenn is the revisionist history of the moving of the goalpost now trying to act like this is going to take a while and this is some sort of like long rebuild. Like that that’s not what this is. Like the 2021 Lions always bring up the Lions. They had two players that made a Pro Bowl. Goff and TJ Hawinson who they eventually traded. The Jets have so much more talent than that 2021 Lions team. It’s just to me it’s really disingenuous. That’s pretty good. They took what? Wapora Gibbs Campbell. That wasn’t that draft though for all those guys, was it? I think it was. They had four top 50 picks. Yeah, but that was that was after 21 when they had the Leaporta draft. They had a rookie on Monra St. Brown, I’m pretty sure, because they took PR that first regime I mean that first year 2021 when they went they started 010 and one they took me I’m know they took Amandra they took Penul. They took Penul. They took uh a one Zarrique, whatever how you pronounce his name. Aean McNeel, Arie McNeel is amazing. Melan Fono, who’s kind of ass. And then uh Aman Raw and Derek Barnes. So pretty good first draft. Year two, they took How does Arian Smith turn into Aman Raw St. Brown by the way? Oh man. Uh Aiden Hutchin, this is year two where they had uh you know the extra f first of the extra first round picks. They took Aiden Hutchinson. They traded up for Jameson Williams. They got Josh Pascal, whatever. And then Kirby Joseph and Malcolm Rodriguez pretty good. And got seven starters out of the first two drafts. Then this is the big one. They took Gibbs, Campbell, Leaporta, Branch back to back to back to back. Pretty good. Why didn’t Aaron Glenn bring a Lions executive with them? Uh, great question. I wonder that’ll be my other interesting one this off seasonason if they do this regime is back and again I still think it’s 85% they’re back. I I see you’re very confident in it. Yeah. I I don’t know. I just think this is going to get worse. Will that’s the problem. No. No. I I You’re probably You guys are all probably right. I I just We’ll see. Like you know what I mean? Like if they could stabilize things. I see the points you’re trying to make. The problem is the owner says what he says. I don’t think so. Like I don’t think Tyrod I think he’s better, but I think he’s gonna get hurt at some point. They’re gonna go back to the field. It’s gonna be like what happened when Mike White got hurt and they had to go back to Zack. The only difference is they were actually playing for something late in the air. This team might just fold. And I don’t think Glenn can control the locker room. I think he’s going to lose the room. And if he can, man, then he should stay because that Well, that’s what I’m saying. Like if if they go out there this week and play well and win that will I will give Aaron Glenn a ton of praise and say that’s a real win that I don’t care if it’s Joe Flacco. Like if you go into Cincinnati with after the owner’s comments, everything’s swirling and you put forth an effort that we’re not expecting, just like we didn’t expect the defense to play well like they have these last two games. Like I if if Glenn goes out there and actually shows us something, that’s not nothing. Like getting a win, I don’t care if it’s, oh, it’s only one win, Jake. Like no, man. Like he’s in it right now. If he could coach out of it and show us something, I’m rooting for that. Jet fan at every Jet. Of course, you don’t have to have turn this over again, dude. It’s like no one wants that. Like, yeah, the idea of like stabilizing with Mike McCarthy, like cool. I’m hiring Mike McCarthy and anybody, but like it would be really cool for that not to happen. I just I really would really prefer like they get a quarterback and they, you know, take a receiver and an edge rusher and, you know, end of round beginning round two and maybe they have a second extra second round pick and it’s it’s just right now, man. So the 1 p.m. games it’s been the weather’s been 80 and sunny for four straight home games which and in Tampa the weather was good. Miami the weather was good. London the weather was amazing. I don’t know what. Of course like the years the Jets are competitive. The weather’s been ass. And then this year they’re awful and the weather’s been amazing. Just classic. Absolutely classic. Less wants to know what’s better, Woody’s hugging or Glenn’s dancing. Will you rather get a hug from Woody Johnson or would you rather dance with Aaron Glenn? I don’t know why we would trust Glenn.” I think I want Cliff Kingsberry just out of curiosity because at the bare minimum, even if he’s not the head coach to get this team like over the top, at least you know you’re putting your quarterback in a good spot where he can learn the position and then if you have to move on from Cliff in a few years, fine. It’s like the Justin Herbert thing and then you get a Harbaugh and take you to the next level, whatever. But like it’s just like, you know, you have someone who’s proven to evaluate quarterbacks. He’s worked with a bunch of guys, right? Even in college, you go back to like working with Mahomes and Baker. Like, I’ll take that. I think that’s what it is. My only issue with Cliff, well, I have a lot of issues with Cliff, but he’s very handsome, too. That would help. Extremely handsome. Biggest issue with Cliff is year two is usually an abject disaster, and these guys fall off a cliff. Look at Kyler. Uh, look at banged up this year. So, it’s J Daniels this year, obviously, he’s banged up, but like does not look like the same guy. He’s usually year one, very good. He comes in especially the first eight to 10 weeks and it usually kind of falls apart. Yeah. I just worry about like I don’t know man then you’re doing the same thing. McCarthy to me is like the classic and everyone’s used this Joe Conor uses example. He’s the the tip of hire. It’s like he’s probably not winning a title here. Like most definitely not winning a title here. But like he’s going to turn you into like a normal organization again that wins between nine and 12 games a year. You’ll probably lose in the second round. he’s probably going to piss you off and eventually it’s it’ll get annoying, but like for the beginning like he’ll just turn you into a normal org. There’s an argument to be made that that’s what they need. Um I think there’s just not a lot of again, we’ll see what happens. There’s not been a lot of candidates that have like you look at the Titans job and who they’re eyeing for candidates, you’re like, “Holy crap, man. That is ugly.” Um so yeah, no, we’ll see. Um, again, I still really don’t think he gets fired, but like each week the more they lose, the more created there is to it. Yeah. Yeah. Like it’s, you know, you don’t want you don’t want to be one and done. Like shut people up and win a couple games and and it’ll go away. Less says Tom got four wins out of Fields. Glenn can’t even get one. What does that say about the staff? I don’t trust Yeah. Every day nine and a half points a game in Fields, four wins last year. And again, like, but Fields statistically has never been this bad. That’s my big thing. He’s also just been awful. Like I don’t know how like it’s it’s some level. Why Why is he awful though in year five? Like why is he regressing? So mentally shot, dude. I don’t He can’t even throw the football, Jake. Like he doesn’t He was so good that first game. Like what happened? Like he got concussed and he forgot how to play football after that. Mr. Garrett on that bang eight to start the Buffalo game, fumbled the next drive, and he’s been awful pretty much ever since. Like Yeah. I don’t know, man. It the rest of that Bills game, he was horrendous. He was almost as bad as he was against Denver. He doesn’t run, dude. Like even this week, man. Like I know he got popped on that slide and that socked obviously, but like they called QB power three times and like he just like doesn’t make anyone miss. Just like a four yard gain and like slides. It’s like oof. I don’t know. Just there’s nothing really redeemable right now. Um and again, I’m not Tom’s also like a Hall of Fame coach and Glenn’s in year one being a head coach. I just don’t know if that’s a fair comparison. And I’m not trying to like absolve Glenn, but I I I don’t think like my tongue went like Mason Rudolph took Mason Rudolph and Kenny Picket to the playoffs. Like he’s just a really good coach. I don’t have to tell you. And I had to fight with Jet fans last year who said they wouldn’t tra his flaws. He is horrendous when he’s about to go forward on fourth down or punt and does like the classic Todd BS. Like although Tom was pretty good the other night, but he manages a locker room and a program better than pretty much anybody NFL. And like you definitely would you rather have Arma Meu or Mike Tomlin? That was my whole argument. Like Rodri Jones, who’s like the worst player I’ve ever seen outside of Justin Fields. Yeah, it’s uh it’s it’s amazing. Hey, shout out to Mike Damo. We’re doubling his entries. He is in the Asaniac raffle for a 10. I mean, I’ve said it a million times. They should have like Wait, you’re asking me? I think I I think he’s talking about like the decision to move on from Darnold because you would have had to pay him in a couple years. Fifth year option. That was the worst though. We got to reset the clock. Darnold was on like team control for another two years. That was the stupid And really could have been four years. That was the dumbest. That argument made no sense. You could have just been like Sam’s co mentally and that was the only argument you needed. That was it. There was no like, hey, we’re not going to attract the right head coach with Sam here. Um, it’s just hilarious looking back like they could have had Sam and then moved him again the next year if he wasn’t good and had like Jamar Chase or Michael Parsons. I mean, by the way, not had Zack Wilson. Big story on Sports Center, Justin Fields reacting to Woody Johnson. This is what I’m talking about though on why what Woody did was so dumb. It created a distraction, an unnecessary thing. that Glenn was all about moving in silence and the owner made it impossible to do that with these comments because Glenn has to be asked about it. Like you have this exchange earlier pretty clear yesterday with with your comments. Yep. Does that impact I mean we know how he feels about Justin. Clearly does not want to play. But how does that impact your What made you say did he say that? Well, he was very critical of him. So what did he say? He said he couldn’t pass. Did that say he doesn’t like the quarterback? He said they say does he does quarterback’s not playing? No. But no, he said how that his opinion impact your decision with your owner is basically stating that he doesn’t think Justin Fields is getting the job. Well, I said before that Woody puts that in my hand as far as who plays and I don’t see that changing. Um, he trusts me to make that decision. Again, he made a comment and he has every right to his comment. And again, that comment was um was actually said by a number of guys, including our quarterback, as far as the efficiency of how we play. And um and we’re not going to fight that. We understand that. We have to get better. We do. But I don’t think there’s anywhere in that comment where he said he doesn’t like Justin. I don’t think there’s anywhere in that comment where he says that Justin’s just I don’t think so. Yes, he is. He upset that, you know, we haven’t completed a pass as far as what you just said. he said. I didn’t even read it, so I don’t know. Um, that’s I mean, that’s what he says. But overall, overall, we’re on the same page when it comes to that. I I think Glenn is in a brutal spot there, and he handled that as well as you could possibly handle it. He shouldn’t be put in a spot where he has to even be dealing with this nonsense. That’s It just It’s so frustrating because like if you want Aaron Glenn to succeed, don’t make his job harder for no reason. Yeah, that was awesome. Glenn just that might have been Glenn’s best best presser yet. That was awesome. He was like, did he ever say he doesn’t like Justin? Like obviously can twist it into like he never say he didn’t like him as a person. Like that was that was great. That was actually a really good answer. That might be that I thought I thought it was very good what he did. Something that he like did a really good job of saying absolutely nothing without like putting himself in a corner. Like that was one of the first times where Glenn hasn’t said something where you’re like, “Oh god.” Like he kind of just And look, it’s great. I love that him and Rich go going back, you know, go back and forth, but you know, Jake, we talk about this with the Yankees all the time. Hal or Brian will say something and Boon has to kind of be the guy or do something and Boon has to be the guy that takes the bullets. And to some extent, like Glenn’s gonna have to take Woody’s bullets right now. He just is. That’s just part of the job. It’s It’s amazing. And at least I’d only be trading for guys if you thought they could be starters for, you know, next couple years and they’re like guys under contract. If he’s doing a good job or I’m seeing things of improvement, like I just lauded him for that answer he gave to Sidi there about the Woody thing. I thought he handled that really well. They had the first pick in the draft and we let this regime pick a quarterback. I don’t think they’ve done a good job. I think they’ve been horrific this year. Um, you know, I turned the game off on Sunday after halftime and I had some things to do and I didn’t really care to look until 4:00 because I knew the outcome of the game. I went back, I watched a little of it. You know, not much changed. She looked a Tyrod looked a little better, but I I just don’t see it, man. Um I still I I don’t You made me bet you the hundred. So So I still believe that they’re going to go 0 and 0 and 17. And I I’ll tell you what, Hamburger, I must admit as I’m sitting there watching this disaster in person. I started to think maybe they actually will go 0 and 17. Like I still think they’ll win a game, but like I I’ll admit watching that on Sunday, that was the first time where I’m like they’re not even able to score a touchdown where I’m like Maybe they actually will not win a game. Like it was the first time I actually was like, you know what, maybe hamburger, black gypsy, maybe they’re on to something. Yeah, there I’ve felt this way since, you know, I gave I had an open mind. You know, I was not pumped about about the coaching staff. I was not pumped. You know, I wanted to say, “Hey, let me see what they can do.” After week one, I said, “Okay, we felt, you know, I felt better, a little better about it.” But I still said it. I said, “We had it was still the same type of jet loss.” like it was still in incompetence at the end of the game. And then we went on to week two and I I don’t know what it was in and and what it is is I’m I look at the season kind of a little different than probably a lot of people. Like I haven’t been following a lot of the the media hype. I don’t listen to a lot of things. I I kind of stayed off this show for a little bit because I wanted to kind of see things just with my own eyes with not any influence of anybody else and just watch football. Like I don’t dive in and and dissect plays and watch back film. You know, I played football nine years. I can sit there and I can watch a game and know whether or not this team is coached well or if they have talent. And after week two, dude, I mean, I I looked at my wife and I was like, we are in serious serious trouble. I mean, I understood it was he’s a first time coach, but the guy’s been in the league for how many years? The guy’s been coaching for how many years? I mean, the in-game management has been terrible. I don’t know. I It’s just I I don’t see it getting better. I am I am all for hoping hoping I don’t I don’t hope for 0 and 17. I don’t I really don’t. Even though I’ll take 300 bucks from you, I really don’t want to go 0 and 17. I don’t think it’s 300. Yo, you beted 300. You up it. You upped it. Oh, that’s right. I gave you odds on it. Yeah. Uh I need to win bad. That’s That’s the only reason I took the bet cuz I don’t bet the Jets. I don’t bet I gave I think I’m down at least$500 bucks if the Jets don’t but if you if Owen 17 means I get a new coaching staff and we don’t ruin the first pick in the draft. I it’s worth the $500 investment. I I I’ll say it’s a tax. Correct. And listen, I you know, the comment from Woody, I think I think Woody is is, you know, I think there’s three bolts coming out of that tire that’s holding on to him believing in in Glenn. I honestly, if the defense and and the special teams didn’t perform in a lousy two freaking games that they look confident, I I I think he might not have said a damn word. I think he’s kind of given him a kind of a scapegoat because of the last two weeks with the defense. But we also played not really very impressive offenses either. So I’m not I’m not holding too much on how the defense was good. Um I I just they play an offense that can throw the ball down the field and and are a little more dynamic. I think they’re going to get chewed up. I I don’t think their schemes work well enough. But I really do I think I think Woody has uh like three bolts out of that wheel, man. Uh, I I think if you you put up a real bad loss this weekend, the defense regresses, the special team regresses, you got penalties and bad calls again and Aaron can’t hold this team accountable and and do the right thing and and game management. I I think you’re going to see nothing said from Woody. I think it’s going to be quiet the rest of the year and it’s going to just it’s just going to compound and get worse. And I I you know, and I can’t agree more with you. Like, yeah, I hear the offensive minded coach first time. I don’t want to see it, man. I want an organization builder. I want I I don’t care that we we don’t go to the to the to the uh the Super Bowl or we don’t make it past the second round of the playoffs. Win, man. Like like build the organization. Get the roots set in this organization. Start with a quarterback. I don’t need some ingenious guy with a quarterback. I need someone that’s going to build the program from the bottom, who’s going to make the right picks, who’s going to evaluate the right way, who’s going to, you know what I mean? That that knows how to manage a game. that’s not going to put the team in into these situations that we’re in every week, week to week, and and our coaches don’t know what to do. I mean, it’s just been repetitive over the last few years. And I think a McCarthy probably like for me, McCarthy would be number one. Yeah. Number number one really if we can go get what’s his name from the Steelers. I mean, let’s be real. But I don’t think that’s even going to happen. I think he’s staying in in Pittsburgh even with a number one pick thrown out there. But McCarthy, man, says a lot to me, like means a lot to me because I think he’s going to he’s going to really change the organization. Yeah, we might not go to the Super Bowl, but you know what? I’ll take five years of making it into the playoffs and and and losing the first and second round. And then give us watchable football, man. Like making the playoffs will be f like just like waking up in December having a game that still matters. Like we haven’t had that in a long time, man. Like consistently. Like they’re the flash in the pan in 2022 and they collapse. Like that’s really it. It’s been brutal. Yeah. And you and you hardly remember 2022. Like it’s it’s so long ago and and it’s been so bad since. And and and to be honest, like Salah to me right now was a way better coach than than we have right now. Oh, without question. The one thing the one thing you could say about Salah is the defenses were elite for the most part once he got his guys after that first year. And yeah, he still won seven games twice with the worst collection of quarterbacks. Like it’s it’s Aaron Glenn’s not going to sniff seven wins this year. Not even close. He won’t he probably won’t sniff the four that Salah had with Zach Wilson and no talent in 2021. No talent. Yeah. And and listen, I’m not I’m not at all saying like Salah was a a a fantastic coach. He was a great defensive-minded coach. Um but was inept in his offense what and throughout and was terrible handling the media. But you know, he was way better, man. I I I think at this point this is the worst I’ve ever seen. And I don’t really remember I remember Kotai. I don’t really remember too much like I couldn’t give you stats from back then but man I remember I remember watching Kota listen well and I didn’t watch them because I had to listen on a radio because at that time I was young. I was uh mostly homeless and I had a transistor radio for a little while and I would listen every day on every game on Sunday on the on on a radio and listen to the losses week after week and it was like I don’t think I’ve ever been so upset watching like listening to a football game and listening to my team like go two and two and 14 or two and 13 whatever it was back then. Um, and I’m it was it was just that stuck with me for a while. And now I like after watching the last two years and and really probably being the second most upset I’ve ever been and having it affect my like not my life, but my my feelings all the time and my mood. Like I won’t let that happen anymore. Like I can’t let that happen. And I’m sure there’s a lot of Jet fans that feel that way. But there’s also fans out there that are younger that could feel, hey, like Bill’s going to turn it around. And I understand that because I was that way too, man. Uh, I was that way. And even like I mean like I don’t know how you do it, Jake. I don’t know how you guys come on and comment and and talk about them day in and day out. I know you love your job and I know it’s awesome what you have your show, but man, I don’t know if I could do that. I I It’s hard, man. Burger, it’s hard. It’s exhausting. No matter who they pick. So, um it would be great if they could, you know, whoever they pick, they can sit him for a year and just let them learn and all of that, but of course, they’re going to throw him into the fire first thing. Okay, like he he says a lot of good points, but one thing he doesn’t understand was Vinnie Testy, okay, can throw the ball about 75 to 85 miles per hour down a football field. He can almost hit the end zone, okay? Chad Pennington and Mark Sanchez couldn’t do that. So, don’t compare Vinnie Testy’s arm strength to Mark Sanchez and Chad Pennington. And that’s just my one quick side point. Like I don’t know if he was trying to get at that but what he was saying was like these quarterbacks are in the same league as Vinnie Vinnie Vinn Vinnie had one of the strongest arms that ever played in the NFL. Okay. I think he was just talking about the mentality the the the stuff between the ears. It was about it was about the intangible stuff mental toughness. It wasn’t about you know ability strength. Okay. All right. No no no doubt. Um, second thing was, uh, the guy calling, I forgot what his name was. Um, what’s this? All right. If the Jets are going to if the Jets are going to trade Bree Hall and they’re going to get rid of him, are you going to do it now or like what are you waiting for? Like he if you’re not using him and Aaron Glenn is playing like uh we we’re going to throw him the ball. Yeah. We’re going to make him more of an option. and you don’t even [ __ ] effing use him for like three plays, four plays last week. Why are you even They’re going to have to trade this guy. Correct. Uh I know you’re doing other [ __ ] I mean, you you think Jet get rid of Bree Hall by by trade deadline? We were just talking about it. I I I don’t know because they have the injury to Brillin Allen and they really would have nothing in that running back room. So I I I don’t know. I someone just asked me the last call, how many guys do I think are gonna be traded? I think it will be less than two and a half. So, I think they might trade Bree and or Quincy or Quincy and Bree or Michael Carter and Quincy. I think I actually think Bree is not going to be dealt because I don’t think they’ll be able to get the value for him. So, in your opinion, do you want the Jets to go 0 and 17 or you want them to win a couple games? I don’t want them to go to 0 and 17, but I will start rooting for them to go 0 and 17 if we get to the last couple games of the year and they’re going to win two of the final three and try and sell us an improvement. So, I want the wins to be right now if they’re going to happen. If not, we get to like 0 and 11, 0 and 12, at that point, I’m rooting for 0 and 17 because what what is there left to do? What what does your dad think? I guarantee your dad thinks that they should lose should be 0 and 17 just like my dad thinks they should be 0 and 17. Uh, he’s not there yet. We haven’t You You think that they’re hiring Glenn back after this disaster? If they win two games, you think they’re hiring Glenn back even? I don’t think they’re even winning two. The Browns, I think, went 1 and5 in Hugh Jackson’s first year and he said, “We’re not going 1 and 15 ever again.” And he was right. They went 0 and6 and he somehow kept his job for another year. They got fired midway through. It’s amazing. Spencer Green all caps. Why JJ coming out saying he’s not leaving? Could it be these guys believe in the old man AG? Who knows? AG year 2 loading trade fields for beast. I think Germaine Johnson’s a leader. He’s a winner. That’s why he wants to be here, which I love. I don’t think it means they believe in in AG necessarily. I don’t think he’s lost the locker room. I think they still think he could be a good coach. I think guys are still playing for him. I think he had to bench Fields to save that locker room. As far as trading fields for Beast, I I wouldn’t do that. You know, be Beast right now is dealing with a lot. I don’t know that’d make our team better even even with Field struggling. Um, wait, do we need to get Joe Blow It on to review the the hug? Yeah, the technique was all wrong. All wrong. Um, and and why frame Beast for stuff he he didn’t do with the underwear? I mean, there’s plenty of heinous stuff that he does that we can just put out there on the channel and amuse ourselves with. Agreed. The idea that Beast would ever [ __ ] himself. Some of you believe in this. Shame on you. Yeah. So, a couple of things that that um Willpaw was talking about that I want to kind of throw out there. There is not any talk about the Raiders trading JPJ, right? Because he’s only in his second year and doesn’t really make much sense to me. They’re having the same rumors we are with like a potential fire sale, but you very rarely actually see that in the NFL. Yeah, I know he’s been hurt, but I love them coming out. So, I don’t I don’t know why they would I mean, even even if Carol won were one and done there, you would think that they would want to keep him as a piece for the future or for the new coach, right? I I would be very surprised if he’s traded for everything you just outlined. He’s a to me I I mean I He’s a good player. Like I I He’s on a rookie deal. Why would you get rid of him? Yeah. Um the other thing is Mike Tomlin. If things go poorly for my Tomlin one this year and and you know seven, eight wins and then they miss the playoffs and he misses u and and he loses his job, would he be a guy we consider even though he’s not kind of the prototype that we we’re saying that we’re looking for uh as a like an offensive mind uh quarterback whisperer type? I think he has to be because he’s never had a losing season. I mean, I don’t even think like I don’t think he’s going to have a losing season this year, you know? I mean, I can hear the chat right now. You know, he’s not coming here all and and the Jet fans have got to get over that mindset, right? When you have the first overall pick or or changes everything and you have all this cap room and there’s talent on the team and there’s an opportunity to to to build something with the players that are here rather quickly, I think guys will come. Why did Andy Reed go to the Chiefs? you know, like like you know what I mean? Like like the idea that they couldn’t get someone. One, Woody’s got a ton of money. Two, it’s New York. Three, there is talent on this team. Your offensive line’s in place for a rookie quarterback. Like it’s not a bad job. That’s what frustrates me when people are like, “Who would want this job?” A lot of people would want this job. The problem is, is Woody Johnson going to be willing to admit a mistake if things continue to go just terribly? That that to me is what it comes down to. I don’t think it’s about money. I think Woody’s got plenty of money. I think he really likes Glenn. He hired him. that was his pick. He doesn’t want to fire him after a year. It’s going to take a lot for him to do it. But 01 17, Aaron Glenn’s going to be fired. Like that’s how that works. And I mean, one of the other main detriments to to actually having guys like that come here is what he putting his foot in his mouth. I mean, this was just symptomatic of the dysfunction today with all the parsing that that that Glenn was doing and the the skating about it and say he was a bad guy and all this like a Johnson shouldn’t have put him in that spot and b you know just said the owner’s entitled to his opinion and move past it is kind of how I felt about it. Um I was alarmed to hear um that Will was saying that he didn’t think there was going to be a lot of trades. I mean, part of the problem here at this point is we’ve kept a lot of these guys here for years and years. But do you want them to make trades, Kyle? Cuz like you trust them to get value back for these guys. Yeah. Well, that that’s trade the free agents, fine. But I’m I don’t want this regime overseeing like what what value to get for Quinnon or JJ or like or Will McDonald. Like they want to trade Quincy as a free agent or Bree or Michael Carter because he’s been replaced by Brownley and hasn’t been able to stay healthy. Fine. But like when we talk about like full fire sale some of our best players, I wouldn’t do that if they’re under team control, which they are. I mean, I I understand the the the problem with trusting a lane duck. Um but also, you know, I did love uh the the the Briggs and the Harrison uh moves and that’s fair. Much do a good job with that. Yeah, there’s there’s some um stuff that they were able to do kind of on the fly and bring some people in. It hasn’t worked because we don’t have the trigger man to do it. And uh you know we in in some respects we overestimated our ability to coach up fields. So um you know that that’s basically all I had. I wanted to talk about those three things because yeah I would be very interested in JPJ. I would be um somewhat interested in Tom on um you know as a program builder and I I want to make sure that we get some capital in here from guys that probably won’t be here so we can build this out from the future because I can’t go through this anymore. I’ve had it. I appreciate your time, Jay. 100%, Kyle. Great call. I I um I don’t think they’re going to trade some of the the big guys. I don’t I think they could trade some of the guys who are going to be on expiring deals, and that would make sense. I just hope they get decent value. Like, honestly, I wouldn’t trade Breeze if I’m just getting a fifth round pick. I’m only trading Breeze if I’m getting at least a four. They don’t use him properly, you know. But I’m not trading Germaine Johnson. No way. I’m not trading Will McDonald. Zcorp Sanders. Enough said. Sanders. What? Shador Sanders. You want them to trade? Is that what this means? You want them, you spend 10 bucks to say you want them to trade for Shador? I would not do that at all. I think that would add to this dysfunction quite frankly. Listen, I was thinking uh about everything that we’ve been talking about here recently on the show and stuff. And I think one of the things that um and I don’t know if anybody else touched on this, but I think one of the reasons why we’re seeing u Aaron Glenn failing right now as a head coach is because of his ego and his pride. The whole move with Aaron Rogers and getting Rogers out of there to me was all a ego trip, you know, being the new man in charge, being the head of the, you know, of the ship or whatnot, the captain of the ship. And he made a lot of decisions off of ego and pride. The reason why he didn’t bench people when they were supposed to be benched is because of the same thing, because of ego and pride. They spent all that money on Justin Fields. Uh, and they gave money, you know, to other people that came in from trades and it looked horrible for him to have to sit these these people down. So, to me, it’s an ego and pride thing and I think he’s learning very quickly that um that ego and pride has kicked him in his butt. I I do think that this has been eye opening for him, but I don’t know if that means he’s going to get better. So, but yeah, it sucks, man. Um, you know, not to be able, you know, once again, our season, you know, uh, finishes, you know, before, uh, December. Um, it’s just, it’s frustrating. You know, you watch all these other teams putting up points. You watch all these other teams, um, you know, playing competent football and we can’t even we can’t get a taste of nothing good. You know, it’s it’s it’s very horrible. Uh, I feel like that like the interview they gave that kid, you know, the kid’s like, “Listen, man. I’m I’m just born into this. I don’t know. I just I’m so tired of it. I They stink.” You know? I feel for him in particular, right? Because all he knows is the Jets being bad. When I was around his age, I saw playoff teams. I saw the the Jets go to the championship game two straight years. Like if if you’re a Jet fan under the age of really 25, you don’t 23 even like right like you don’t really remember those Rex teams even. You certainly don’t remember the Chad teams or Herm and it’s sad. That’s right. But I appreciate you taking my call, man. I just wanted to Yeah, look, I I think it’s I think it’s fair. I do think that, you know, Glenn came in and he wanted to be the alpha and do it his way and talk the talk and it’s a lot harder than he realized. I think there’s something to that. Super Chad Zcorp says Shador Sanders trade with the Browns fallback would be amazing. What are you giving up to get Shadore though, right? Like I don’t know. Kind of feels like he’s a bit of a distraction. Little immature. I’m good. I’m just going to wait till this offseason to get my quarterback. Matt Ellis says, “At work. Uh, and like you were saying, watching this team through my teenage years and experiencing like the highs that I was experiencing, I just never expected 15 years later that we would just be in this rudderless drought that is just painful to watch every Sunday. I was telling my wife on Sunday, it’s become like a chore. It doesn’t even feel entertaining anymore. It’s like, oh, 1:00 I have to go do my job for three hours and watch this terrible team. Um, and it’s just like, it’s just painful. Um, and I was expecting much more. Like I I know you were really big on not hiring a first year coach again. Uh, I thought Glenn was different, but I also buy in very very easily um to anything that the Jets do. It’s kind of a That’s the problem of mine. No, it’s all of us, dude. I mean I I like I I was weary of any first-timer, but I came around I’m like he’s a jet. He wants the job. Like surely he wouldn’t be saying all these things are going to be different. He wasn’t if he wasn’t going to be able to back it up. Like you know you want to believe we’re fans, right? Exactly. Exactly. And so like now seeing what we’ve seen, I’m just ready to blow the whole thing up and I just want them to hire somebody from the Minnesota Vikings team because every quarterback that has gone there comes away and they are just so much better than when they left. And I feel like just getting somebody from that team to help implement a new quarterback and help actually develop somebody uh is like the only thing that I can see that would be getting us to where we need to go with a firsttime quarterback. And I just really hope that that’s what happens. But it’s not going to because I know Woody Johnson’s going to make the wrong move and end up keeping Glenn and it’s just going to be an utter disaster for another two years if we’re lucky. Yeah, Don. I the only I could tell you is it just depends how bad it gets because I think Woody used Fields as like the shield for Glenn. If it doesn’t look any better, though, his hand’s going to be forced. No one’s renewing their season tickets. Like I I think we’re just scratching the surface, too, on how bad this could get. Like, if they win Sunday, I’d be shocked. So, I think that will show me a lot about this coach if he could actually rally the team after all this and and get a win. But, uh let’s let’s see. I I can’t I I don’t know. I mean, Woody Woody’s Woody, so you never know. Right. Yeah. No, it’s uh it’s brutal. It’s brutal. Um but thanks for the call or letting me call and uh I’ll call in sometime.
