NBL Mini: Philadelphia 76ers vs. Charlotte Hornets | Extended Highlights
Here we go. Colin Ston coming over in a trade with the Utah Jazz in the offse. Bridges. Brandon Miller is back from the wrist injury that sideline him for ball. Ston catch and shoot. And that one falls through 77 in the first half and a franchise record for an opener. They beat the Brooklyn Nets as Embiid goes between the legs to Tyler. He’s maxi. [Music] That low ball leading the way for the Hornets so far. He’s got four. And he’s got that very odd looking three-point shot. Almost like the playground three. Olive, but to what it used to look like, it looked a lot worse. So to his credit, he kind of reshaped the jumper upon entering. Tyrese Maxi has always had a good looking three. His guys to continue to cut right as we take a look at Maxi. Here’s a little half court action. the brush screen and he’s got his second of this first quarter. Ston up and in. Sixers six of seven from long range. That one too strong. Picked up by Maxi. BJ Enco. What a pass by Joel MB. Everybody thought he was going to Maxi. And then this is in transition. Just leaves it for BJ. Only played 5 minutes and 7 seconds in the first quarter against Boston. Still in here. A steal by the Hornets. This is Trey Mayer just checking in. Throws it right into Embiid’s hands. Barlo DB with the throw down. Both ends of the floor. Excellent defense on the ball and then he takes out gets to the basket and finishes nicely. Man, with a soft touch there. That’s a lot to ask of any one-on-one defender. Here is the lob to Dominic. He had a really difficult back injury. November 21st on trade didn’t play the rest of the year. Maxi got another third triple in the first for the harmless Todd Race. Maxi BJ in transition and then this is Maxi again. We’ve seen this set a couple times. Sixers going to that action again. Just one more thing with Charlotte. This is a second year of new ownership. So they’re trying to establish a new culture, a new vibe around the organization. Players, they’ve got some talent. Yeah, the rookie Edgecom has five going against the rookie Canipple making four threes for Tyrese Maxi. And we still have four minutes to play in the first quarter. Don’t hurt that child like that. You’ll hurt his feelings, man. It’s sensitive. Welcome to the league, Rook and maybe not that sensitive. The rookie out of Duke answering right back. I have I have to do that cuz my understand he wanted to respond. One more look at it from a different angle. with a little step back. Separation created. Rebound down to the Hornets. Good look. I got to get back. Brandon Miller has that length. Able to go up and get that one. And then Ubé steals it right back to the Sixers. Yeah, Brandon Miller trying to get physical with him. Quinton Grimes for two. Good job. Watch this develop again right there. I mean, that’s just too Oh, that excuse me. This is a steal earlier to a run out. And then this is Quinton getting those two more active defensively. The other night he had a hard time really fitting in and getting into the groove of the game, but he looks much more engaged here tonight. Oh, Bon the block. What a chase down block by Adm. Watch this block again. We know the rule. It can’t hit the backboard. And I think it actually did hit the backboard. Sixers may have got away with one there. Let’s just win this in regulation so we can get the hardwood out there. This is balanced blocked by Jabari Walker. Great. Extended past the defender. Walker saying, “No, not long enough.” Able to get that and it’s the reason why it was good. They don’t let you wear those numbers in college cuz they don’t want to bother the referees with those numbers, but they seem to not care in the NBA. Ston draws number two on 77. And honestly, you can see right there, it turns the corner. The contact along the way. Veteran move by the veteran segment. Good ball movement by the Hornets. Trey man can’t connect from outside, but there’s the rookie blocked by his fellow rookie. VJ Edgecom got up and knocked that one away. Ston gets it back, turns, fires, and does not miss. He will shoot it when the opportunity presents itself. Quinton Grimes will do the same. And Grimes answers right back from outside for the Sixers from long range. Four of eight for the visiting team. Eight of 11 for the home team. And James connects on a corner three. Both teams shooting very well as the big fella thinks about going back to work on the rookie. And he will. Green man shadowing. Quinton Grimes. Count it. And the foul. A four-point opportunity coming. Off to a really good start. Doing it the right way. Playing within himself. Not really forcing anything. That’s a nice little inside outside. Ball’s got 12. Leading the way for the Hornets. Son with 10. Back to ball it goes. Make it 15 now for LaMelo Ball in his first nine minutes tonight. Ball. No hesitation with them. Quinton low passed him and then lost it as Salon came over to help. There’s James. Skip pass. Ston for three. still fighting moving screen call which he tends to do at times but got w got got his teammate wide open bridges up and over for Damona and then Conquer cleans things up on the week side got good size too he’s able to finish over most grimes from outside needed that one and Q delivers great find Bridges left alone speaking of nobody saying hits a Joel Embiid started the game with a three. First points of the season for the Sixers here in South Philly. Now three of five from outside as Canipple gets it to go. A starter from each team not going to be returning. Dominic Barlo out with a right elbow laceration as Colin Ston hits a tough layup and draws the foul on Kelly Ubé Jr. And just because he was having such a great sophomore season last year, derailed by injury. What a pass. Tyrese Maxi sneaks it down to VJ Edgecom play. How about the Maxi to Edgecomb finds? Take a look at this. You see the pressure Canipple caught staring at. So Edgecom has 11 tied with Allan Iverson now as Maxi has his shot blocked and then Walker has it knocked away. And DJ has tied Allen Iverson for the most points in any Sixers first two games. As Diabonte running the floor is rewarded, throws it down in the foul. have to do anything but just run and catch and finish. Watch it again. Sexton waits for the last minute. All he’s got to do is catch it in one fell swoop and finish. 6865 Hornets. 820 to go in this third quarter. Embiid doubled again. Really tough shot bubbling down and it goes for Joel Embiid. This is the other end of the floor. Help comes in the form of Bridges. minutes. And again, Embiid still on a minutes restriction and has been close to 20 the last couple of games. Played 19 in the preseason finale, 20 Wednesday in Boston. So, not sure how many more minutes we’re going to see the big fella tonight as Bridges lays it up and in. 76. Kelly hits them both and he was big from the free throw line Wednesday as well. Four for four. Had a couple of big free throws in that fourth quarter. Canipple fine shooters. You can’t leave seven wide open like that. Largest lead of the night for the visitors, the Charlotte Hornets. Embiid. Count it and the foul. The circus shot falls for the former MVP. Watch this action again. Diabate trying to play second 16 ball 17. Maxi can’t get the fade away to go. Maxi had 12 in the first quarter, just two in the second. Still looking for his first points of the third. Somehow Bridges sneaks that through two sixers. Here’s LaMelo. [Music] Gets it back from Bridges and hits a tough triple lead down to nine. See if the Sixers can continue to trim that here in this third quarter. Nicely done. Cannon and the foul for Kelly Ura Jr. One more look at it again. There’s the contact. this young team they’ve got and back to Ston. [Applause] Drops it off to the rookie and K Brener lays it up and in season for the first time in 10 years. Haven’t been there the past nine but hoping with this young group and healthy lamelo ball and hopefully Brandon Miller they can get there. Justin Edwards from the other side of the floor for three. High release. Have these two get some length into this building. Drummond blocking Canipple. Ubé with a step and Ubé hammers it down and the Hornets call time. The Charlotte Hornets in their favor. The 76. So double figures in his first two NBA games just like our VJ Edgecom Ubé. Great work from behind the backboard and Ubé swishes it. Watch this. Is a tough shot. where he is. Good recognition from Kelly to know where he was on the floor. 14 now for the break. Ston drops it off to Diovante who drops it in again. No Brandon Miller and we think Joel Embiid’s night is done. He’s played 20 minutes. He scored 20 points in those minutes. But now back in the locker room, this guy stepping up Justin Edwards. Another three. Just trying to get anyone else to beat him besides Tyrese. Edwards three for four now from three. The nipple a really tough triple to respond with. Salon will take a seat. Hornet so far in this fourth quarter. Two made field goals, four turnovers. Defense doing well. Andre Drummond the hoop with the foul. See what the guys in blue can do without him. Three-point game. Maxi hits both free throws. Cockr Bunner on the roll and another opportunity for the Hornets. Thought they heard a whistle. Wasn’t the case. Bridges fakes it and then gets it over to Bunner who dunks. It fingertips. Great attention to detail by LaMelo Ball. And that great dish by Bridges. How old you? You act like it’s in the past. It’s very much my present. Shout out to all the dads out there watching tonight. Pops is at home watching for sure. [Music] Melo to Bridges for the jam. Nobody got back to the Sixers on defense. Supremely athletic ball. That’s what led to the fouls. We take a look at the lob. Ball to Bridges and eliminate the easy ones for this team. Make them work for their buckets. Grimes mid-range known offensive rebound by Drummond. Kicking out to Ubé and Ubé delivers on the second opportunity. Best time for threes. might as well try to disrupt them, right? Give them a different look. Don’t let them eat from the same diet. The Hornets do well to break that press. Predominantly north south passing covering a lot of territory on that exchange. Drummond going at the rookie. The hook shot from Drumank [Music] into the paint. Up and down it goes. The lead down to three. 116 113. Couple of head fakes. Edgecomb. The lead down to one. Much needed buckets for your team. Nice soft touch. Excellent body control. Coer thought he had a beat on it. No dice. The Sixers within one. Sixers got lucky there. It was good action from the Hornets. Maxi downhill doesn’t get it to go, but Andre Drummond does. The Sixers are back in front. Watch Andre here with the put back. Ball gives the Hornets back the lead. Maxi with man on him. Maxi fade away. ties us at 119. So you just put the ball on the floor and you’re automatically shooting free throws if you pick up a foul. Quinton Grimes for the lead. Got it. Take a look at this action again. No hesitation. Pulls the trigger. Space created. The big fella came out of the locker room to let him know. Ball kicking out. Bridges from the corner. Doesn’t go. Knocked in by the rookie. 1.7 left. Sixers. Got to get it in. Hasn’t necessarily shot the ball as well as he normally has. Seven of 20 overall, but he’s made key plays down the stretch. There’s a key free throw. Pushes the lead back to three. Crowd chanting Max’s name as he pushes the lead to four. And that’s going to do it tonight here in South Philly. Warm up those hands, Sixers fans. It’s on ESPN on Disney Plus. Turn it on.
