And as always, no matter where you are, how you’re tuned in, thank you so much for making tonight’s show a part of your evening. Who’s ready for some Sunday Night Football? San Francisco hosting the Atlanta Falcons here in this week seven matchup. And this game pretty much a pick them here. The overunder at 47 and the Niners onepoint favorites. Now usually teams get about two or three points. Even though homefield advantage nowadays not necessarily what it once was, but it is of note that the Niners one-point favorites in this game. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. Eastern, 5:20 out on the West Coast at Levi Stadium. And as you can see right down below me, the countdown to kickoff clock about 25 minutes as part of our pregame show. And some original thoughts that I have on this game, right? Of course, this is going to be the first full game for San Francisco without Fred Warner. He is there and he was just getting the fans and some of his teammates pumped up. He’s right along the goal line, of course, on a little bit of a scooter. So, he’s trying to inspire his teammates. Tatum Bethune going to get the start at middle linebacker. This is a very instinctual, cerebral, high football IQ type of player. Is he the athlete that Fred Warner is? No, but very few people are. And so you’re going to be able to see him read and diagnose plays. And I think that he’s going to be pretty good against the run. Can he hold up in coverage? That’s the big question. And that’s where his lack of athleticism might hurt him. But he’s going to be a fun old school type of player to watch. Also, this is a harder game than we anticipated when the schedule came out. You’re thinking, “Oh, Atlanta Falcons, they were awful last year.” They’re coming off a great win against the Buffalo Bills. Now, they are one of the weirder teams across the NFL. They beat the Bills on Monday Night Football last week, but earlier this year, they got blanked, dominated by the Carolina Panthers. And so, what team are we going to get? Because this is a young team, and sometimes you don’t know how they’re going to respond. A win here tonight for the NerS would be big for their trade chances. They move to five and two. They’re sitting in a spot where they can afford to be pretty aggressive when the NFL trade deadline comes around. And this game without Fred Warner, without Nick Bosa, will test this Ner’s defense because this Atlanta offense has weapons everywhere and their defense much improved from a season ago. What should have been a three-point game becomes a two-point game. Then the Broncos go right down the field and they’re able to connect on the game-winning field goal from Will Lutz. Crazy. If you’re the defense, you have to be cognizant of McAffrey the route runner. Obviously, KD in motion. What route is he going to run? If he’s in motion, if he’s in motion and Tonus is going down the seam, I kind of want KD to go in motion, get up field, and probably flail out so that he takes some of the safety linebacker or corner focus away from Tonis down the steam. And I’ve talked about how this Falcons team is so unpredictable and weird. So, a 23-20 loss against the Bucks, 22-6 win on the road against the Vikings. A 30 to nothing loss on the road against the Carolina Panthers. They move their offensive coordinator down to field level. They come back, they beat the Commanders at home, but that was the Marcus Mariota led Washington Commanders, not Jaden Daniels. And then they have their early buy week five. They come back out of the buy and they beat the Buffalo Bills 24-14. So an interesting team at three and two, but a dangerous team. And in scouting the Falcons, Michael Penn can sling it. He is a left-handed thrower, so he slings a lot better to his open side. When he has to throw to his non-open side, meaning the right side, that would be the side, the throwing arm of the right-handed quarterback, and he has to throw across field and across his body, that’s where sometimes he can struggle. But on some of those sideline balls where he has the vision and the throwing lane, he throws with really good touch. And you can see that with some of the back shoulder balls that he’s able to complete. The Zack Robinson offensive coordinator from the booth to field level adjustment has seemed to work over the last couple of weeks. Bejian Robinson right now, he is the best running back in the NFL. He’s doing this year what Christian McCaffrey did in 2023. He’s doing now what Saquon Barkley did last year for the Philadelphia Eagles. extremely special and the ability to impact the game with his feet and his legs, but also catching the football. Drake London a really tough cover. He runs well for his size and this defense as a whole for Atlanta, especially their pass rush has greatly improved. Last year, they were one of the worst defenses in the NFL. They allowed the com the highest completion rate at 69.9%. Usually, everybody likes that 69 number. Atlanta did not last year. 69% completion rate against their opponent given up. It’s not good. They also surrendered the second most touchdowns in the NFL at 34. The Falcons were last in the NFL in sacks with 31, last in pressure percentage at 28.1%. But they used two first round picks on pass rushers and they’re getting sacks really from all over the defense. And you look at this chart here. Zack Harrison leads the way with two and a half sacks. He plays defensive end. Brandon Doris plays defensive tackle sack and a half. Kane Ellis, Leonard Floyd, Rook Auroro, they all have one and a half sacks. But Ellis a linebacker, Leonard Floyd, the former Niner defensive van. Auroro a defensive tackle. Then you have Daniel or David Anyad, excuse me. He has a sack at defensive tackle. Jaylen Walker, the edge rusher out of Georgia, a sack. D. Alfred, a corner who has a sack. Sam Roberts, defensive tackle sack. Then you have Billy Bowman, a sack from the safety spot halfway. Divine Diablo also a half sack. And then James Pierce, another first round pick out of Tennessee, a half sack. So that’s a lot of sack production for Atlanta. And it’s coming from everywhere. All right, let’s take a look at how the Falcons stack up on both sides of the football. And again, it’s really just a weird team and a hard team to gauge. Three and two, not really a quality win outside of that Bills win. They did hang tough against Tampa Bay week one, but they lose 30 to nothing to Carolina in week three. Then they beat the Vikings on the road in week two. They beat Buffalo coming off the buy. And so this is a big litmus test for San Francisco, but also Atlanta. They’re 27th in points per game. That is weighed down because they got shut out against Carolina. They’re number two in yards per game, 10th in yards per play, ninth on third downs, 27th in the red zone. So some good, some bad. It’s really been the story for them offensively. Defensively though, they’re really good. And they’re really good because of how aggressive they are. They’ve been able to confuse some good quarterbacks like Baker Mayfield. They forced two interceptions of Josh Allen last week. Seventh in points per game, number one in the NFL in yards given up. Seventh in yards per play, fourth on third downs, but they have struggled a little bit in the red area for the NerS with the addition of George KD. How much can that help out this Niners offense? 24th in points per game, sixth in yards per game, 16th in yards per play, not a ton of explosives, fourth on third downs, 28th in the red zone. Defensively, these numbers have started to decrease without Nick Bosa and now Fred Warner. 15th in points per game, 15th in yards per game, 18th in yards per play, fifth on third downs, 20th in the red zone. My keys to the game got to stop Eian Robinson. And that’s both stopping the run, but also stopping him through the air. He is a dynamic all-purpose back who can hurt you in a variety of ways. And right now, everything has really come together for him where he’s one of the best all-around players in football. Niners’s got to give M. Jones a chance. What I mean by that, have to protect in front of him. This offensive line has been dreadful all season long. The Niners offensive line needs to run block. They got to get the ground game going and KD can help a little bit there. Limit the explosive plays. The Niners giving up explosive plays has gone up since Bose has been out obviously without Fred Warner. Several communication and scheme breakdowns last week. And I wonder is Atlanta ready for this moment. This is a team that when they beat the Buffalo Bills, that was a huge win for them, but their biggest regular season win in quite some time. Then they have to travel across the country, play the Niners on a short week in prime time. Atlanta, you ready for this smoke? I’m ready for it. Predict the score. Falcons, NerS. Just a couple of like simple takeaways that I have. really impressed how this defense without Fred Warner and Nick Bosa gave up just three points in that first half. Now toward the end of the half, obviously you had some breakdowns downfield when the Falcons were trying to get in position to score again and then a wild ending to the first half because Michael Pennock’s intentional grounding 10-second runoff when he threw that ball out of bounds. There were 10 seconds left on the clock and so Atlanta could have gotten three there. Could have been a 10-6 game, but your defense gives up three points in that first half without Fred Warner. Against the ground game, we’ve seen Tatum Bthune, Dwinners make some really impressive plays. This Niners defensive line has been swarming, getting after it. I’ve really liked the effort that they played with on defense and Kyle Shanahan acknowledged that as he was walking off the field. The other takeaway is that in M. Jones’s starts this season, because all year the Niners have not been able to efficiently, effectively, or successfully run the ball, he’s had to throw it so much. And while it’s been impressive that he’s thrown for an average of more than 300 yards per game, and he’s looked really good operating inside the pocket, you got to have more balance on your offense, especially in a Kyle Shanahan offense. And it’s so dumbfounding that a Kyle Shanahan offense hasn’t been able to get the ground game going. But I talked about this all week. It was a big topic that I brought up on a couple of different shows. Why is the ground game struggling? Is it the offensive line? Is it the fact that Christian McCaffrey is cooked? It’s the offensive line. McAffrey has looked awesome tonight and he’s looked pretty damn good all year. Is he as twitchy and fast and as explosive as he was in 2023 when he was the offensive player of the year two years ago before bilateral Achilles tenonitis and a knee injury? Yeah, probably not as fast, but he looks damn good. And tonight, what we’ve seen is just the fact that this Niners offensive line is blocking so much better. And so, take away one, defense gives up three points. Takeaway two, the Niners have run it 17 times for 100 yards, 5.9 yards per carry. Christian McCaffrey 12 totes for 76, 6.3 on average and a touchdown. He has a long of 15. Brian Robinson has five carries for 24. 10 of those came on one carry. And if this Niners offense can get more balance going on offense, it just opens up the pass game naturally. And that’s when this offense is at its best under Kyle Shanahan. Now receiving wise, Joan Jennings three for 26. Had a ball bounce off his hands. So M. Jones will get docked for the interception there. But I think that’s more on JJ. What a freaking win for the San Francisco 49ers. Let’s talk about it here on the show. Welcome into the program. You’re watching the 49ers report by Chat Sports. My name is Chase Senior. As always, no matter where you are, how you’re tuned in, thank you so much for making our postgame reaction show a part of your evening. 49ers 20-10 winners over the Atlanta Falcons here in week seven. This football team with all of these injuries is 5-2 going into week eight. Kyle Shanahan right now has to be the coach of the year. And I know that diehard Niner fans love Robert Salah. He keeps coaching like this with this skeleton crew on defense with all of these injuries. This man could coach. He’s a great football mind. He’s molding Clay right now. But unfortunately, he continues to coach like this. He might be getting a head coaching job after the 2025 season because what he’s doing this year with this defense without Nick Bosa, without Fred Warner, is straight up spectacular. But obviously, we can worry about that after the year when it happens or if it comes around. But let’s talk about this 2025 Ners team. No Nick Bosa, no Fred Warner. Injuries on offense all year. Niners get back George KD tonight. Didn’t catch a pass, but boy oh boy was he impactful as a blocker in helping the Ner’s run game get on track. And how about how this defense played? Bryce Huff, great game. Way to step up and show up. Way to be the number one pass rusher for this team. The ners tonight with two sacks of Michael Penn, both belonging to Bryce. They hit him six times and they provided pressure on PennX all night long. Five tackles, one TFL, one sack per our database for Bryce Huff. ESPN giving him credit for two. Obviously, they’ll sort that out after the game. Point here is Bryce played a whale of a game and had one of the biggest plays of the ball game when he was able to use his speed rush, quick rip move, get to Michael Penn, force the ball out, big turnover forced by this Niners defense. How about how Tatum Bethune played tonight? His first NFL start in place of Fred Warner. And Tatum Bthun was all over the place. And this is why you subscribe to this show because when Tana Mthune was drafted by the Niners, seventh round pick, 2024 draft out of Florida State, I had told everybody it’s not an elite athlete. The 40 speed isn’t going to wow you. But Tatum Bethune, whose pops in Florida coached the likes of Nick Bosa and Joey Bosa and a bunch of other NFL players, you could tell this is a coach’s son right here. what he lacks in elite athleticism, he makes up for it with football instincts, with reading and diagnosing skills, with a good feel for the game, which allows him to be in the right place at the right time. And Robert Salah’s usage of him was fantastic. Utilized him as a blitzer, as a pass rusher from time to time. and Tatum Bethune made some big hits in the run game as San Francisco’s defense just played a phenomenal game all things considered holding this Falcons team to only 10 points. They held Bean Robinson to 14 carries for 40 yards. I just love teams that play hard, teams that have character, teams that always have belief, teams that empty the gas tank and let all the petroleum out. That’s what the Niners defense did here tonight. This is a Falcons team that I know they got blanked earlier in the year by the Carolina Panthers, but they’re coming off a win against the Buffalo Bills in which the offense was unstoppable against Buffalo, in which their defense was great. biggest regular season win for Atlanta in a couple of years. And the Ner’s controlled this entire game, dominated this game, and held this Falcons offense with Michael Penn who can sling it. Bean Robinson best linebacker or a best running back in football right now. Drake London, Kyle Pittz, Darnell Mooney, all these weapons. And the Niners hold them to 10 points and one touchdown, which came in the third quarter when the Niners had a special teams gaff where the Falcons took over at the Niners 48. Short field. Look at what the Niners did here in this ball game. 324 total yards, 4.9 yards per play, nine of 15 on third down as M. Jones is now 4 and one as a starter in place of Brock Pury. And they go two for two in the red zone. And really what this game comes down to, Niners defense stepping up. Bryce Huff was elite. Tatum Mthune was really good. How about the likes of Derell Lutter Jr. stepping in for Renardo Green and having good coverage downfield. But what was so key about this Niners victory is obviously the defensive performance and the coaching of Robert Salah. Situationally, they were really good. The pass rush brought it. The run defense, which had been leaky without Nick Bosa, was good. They had given up a lot of explosive plays tonight. Very few explosive plays. That’s what they did on defense. On offense, this team finally got the ground game going. And the Ner’s going into this game were one of the worst rushing teams in the National Football League. For a Kyle Shanahan offense to be this bad running the ball, dumbfounding, headscratching. They were 32nd in yards per rush entering tonight at 3.1 per carry. They were 30th in rushing yards per game at 82.2. And on the show all week, I had talked about this Niners run game, how it has to get going because San Francisco needs more of a balanced offense. It’s great when M. Jones is averaging more than 300 passing yards per game, which is what he was averaging going into this game, but you need more balance to help him out with this porous offensive line. And so I talked all week, what is the issue with this Niners ground game? Is it Christian McCaffrey or is it this Niners offensive line? And I came to the conclusion watching the tape, watching games, looking at the numbers, clearly it was the offensive line, McCaffry’s rushing yards before contact per football reference going into this game. 1.85 yards in 2023 when he won offensive player of the year in 2025. 081. Perumer Sports those were or let me see. Yeah, perumer sports the numbers that I just read you. Per pro football reference in 2023 McAffrey was averaging 3.1 rushing yards before contact. In 2025, 1.9 entering Sunday Night Football. You know why that number is so low and why it’s gone down yards before contact? It’s because the interior of this Niners offensive line was getting pushed back, bullied, dominated, and throttled so consistently. But tonight, that was not the case. Tonight, this Niners offensive line was blocking really well. And it allowed Christian McCaffrey, Chip, we can show those numbers, to have his best game of the season, outduel Bean Robinson, they swap jerseys after the game, and have his best game since 2023. And there was all these conversations. Is Chris McAffrey washed? Is he cooked? I kept saying, “No, it’s the offensive line.” Tonight, Chris McAffrey looked awesome. And he’s looked this way all year, which is backed up by all of his all-purpose yards. But tonight, the Niners offensive line finally blocked against a Falcons defense that came in as one of the best defenses in the NFL. number one in yardage given up and across the board a top five, top 10 overall unit. But Chris McCaffrey tonight, 24 carries, 129 yards, two touchdowns, 5.4 per carry, both the touchdowns, great runs right up the middle. And so the Ner’s ability to run the ball tonight was huge in them being able to control the game, let their defense rest, eat up clock, and have a balanced offense. Biggest sequence of this game was in the fourth quarter, Falcons are down 13-10. They’re in field goal range. It’s a fourth and one. Atlanta can tie the game with the field goal 13-13 with plenty of time left at that point or they can go for it on a fourth and one. Atlanta decides to go for it on the fourth and one. And there were a lot of bodies toward the offense’s right side for Michael Penn as the left-handed thrower. And what a job by Chase Lucas to run into the flat, cover Drake London on the outbreaker, break up that pass, force the turnover on downs. Niners take over, and then they’re able to go on a huge clutch gamedeciding touchdown drive to win the game. 11 plays, 64 yards, 550 off the clock. Chase Lucas has worked himself to a point where he might be too good to keep off the field and I’m a big fan of Upton Stout. He is a rookie and we’ve seen him have some rookie moments so far this season. I think the Niners might have to play Chase Lucas because he makes this defense better. He had a big corner blitz at one point, got a big hit on Michael Penn. And then the diagnosing and reading ability to know that London was the guy in the flat to accelerate, break on the ball, break that pass up, turn over on downs, momentum flips to the ners, and then they were able to get the ball back and go 11 play 64 yards. That was huge. And a few plays after that, obviously it was a long drive for San Francisco, there was a massive, massive play. Third and 13 at the Atlanta 21. Keep in mind, it’s only a 13-10 game. Niners kick a field goal. They only go up 16-10. Atlanta can win with a touchdown with plenty of time left. At this point, there’s 246 left on the clock. Niners don’t convert on this third and 13. Atlanta gets the ball back with plenty of time. Christian McAffrey six yards behind the line of scrimmage to the left of M. Jones runs a route where Ellis the linebacker had his eyes keyed into M. Jones. He broke inside. I believe it was KD running in between the seam. That opened up McCaffrey down the number and M. Jones able to hit CMC for a gain of 17 yards. And then on the next play, McCaffrey four-yard touchdown where he got carried in by Conor Kobe and Dominic Puny. Team football. And you think about the Niners operation tonight, right? Kyle Shanahan should be the coach of the year because of how he has his teams prepared with all of these injuries and mentally they’re prepared for a game like going up against the Rams, a game like tonight where emotionally, spiritually, mentally you’re like, we’re without Nick Bosa and Fred Warner. How are we going to win? How are we going to compete for the rest of the year? Kyle Shanahan has his team believing. He has his team prepared to play a game like this and then ingame play calling, managing the game, having M. Jones go four and one as a backup, getting the run game going. That’s on Shanahan for Robert Salah coaching the heck out of this Niners defense. Freaking awesome. And so it’s a coaching win and it’s an execution win because the players obviously deserve a lot of credit. And speaking of this Niners ground game, when George KD was on the field, this ground game was so much better compared to when he was off of it. His mere presence and blocking ability changed what this Niners ground game looks like. It looked like the ground attack that we saw in 2023. And a big thing too, Jake Brendle hurt his hamstring, never went to root on an injury. Matt Hennessy comes in. He played pretty damn well at the center spot. So, in the aftermath of this Niners victory over the Atlanta Falcons, that’s a win over a quality opponent and a got to have its spot. The Niners moved to 5-2 on a day where the Rams also won. They beat the Jags. Rams also moved their record to 5-2. Buccaneers going to play the Lions on Monday Night Football. Buccaneers 5- one. And so this game, big implications for the playoffs, for the NFC West, and for the NFC standings, but it’s also another big win to instill belief in the team that they can compete without two of their stars and leaders and Nick Bosen and Fred Warner. Fred Warner on the field before the game, in the box during the game, greeting the players at the locker room after the game. I just love the guy. But it also gives belief to John Lynch that if the Ners make a move, they can make a move to improve this team at pass rusher, at linebacker, maybe at corner, where if you make a move, you think that’s a move that can really help out your ball club. Now, the Niners defensive line tonight was really good. They provided a lot of pressure on Michael Penn either with sacks or quarterback hits or pressures getting him on the ground, collapsing the pocket, moving the pocket. But that was an empty the gas tank type of performance for this Niners defensive line. You make a move and it makes everybody’s job a whole lot easier. I think the move for the Niners is to make a move at edge rusher. I don’t think making a move at linebacker is completely necessary. Tana Bethune is capable of playing the middle linebacker spot for Fred Warner. Robert Salah was calling in the defensive plays to Bethune tonight and he led. He played really well against the run. He was aggressive in providing pressure on Michael Penn and that’s a player that you could continue to grow with. Curtis Robinson ended up getting some snaps when Bethune was a little bit banged up. D Winners’s made some nice plays here and there. It’s really the pass rush that I think you need to improve. The Bryce Up trade an absolute steal. He’s got what, four or five sacks already for San Francisco this year, but it’s different when you’re Batman as compared to Robin. When he’s Robin, he can be spectacular. You get some more help along that defensive line and it just helps out the rest of your defense and you make a move, it helps your pass rush. that then helps out the second level of your defense. It helps out your secondary and it’s another chess piece for Robert Salah to use to his advantage. And Robert Salah, obviously Kyle Shanahan, too, just all coaching their asses off this year. I mean, that’s a highlevel win to beat a team coming off their biggest regular season win in years and beating the Buffalo Bills and they dominated the Buffalo Bills. And that’s a young team with a lot of weapons. And the Niners shut those weapons down. Christian McCaffry’s usage, he accounted for 62% of their scrimmage yards tonight. He touched it on more than 30 of the more than 60 plays that the Niners ran. Falcons run game against the Bills 6.8 8 yards per carry against the Bills or against the Ners, 3.1 yards per carry. McAffrey with more than 200 yards in this game and the Ners stay at top the NFC West. Looks like the injuries are okay for the Niners coming out of this game. That’s a rarity. Not seeing any injury news thus far, but I just can’t say enough how much of a character win this is for the NerS. And this has to get fans pumped up. And you got to be proud of the football team. Brian Robinson had some big carries tonight. Nine for 36, four yards per carry. The Ners run the ball like that with more balance. They can control games. They can dictate the flow, the physicality, and the complexion of games. They become hard to beat. And as I said, this is a young team. There’s going to be some lumps. There’s going to be some bumps and bruises, right? You get into the dance, you get these young players playoff experience. You get into the dance with this coaching staff. No team in the NFC wants to take on the San Francisco 49ers. Telling you. How about this? 49ers in their last 18 games. 4-1 with M. Jones at quarterback. 4-9 with anybody else. Wild. No Bosa, no Warner, no Purie, no Iayuk. Lot of starters out. A lot of people were picking Atlanta. I picked Atlanta because I wanted to motivate the Niners. Niners win five and two. Should the Niners make a trade for a star player? Yes or no? I think they need to make a move because this team has shown time and time again. They can compete in a wide openen NFC.
