Walkin Talk with John Tavares | Toronto Maple Leafs

I wanted to ask you, I guess it’s being Saturday and all. You’ve been in this league a long time, but does Saturday still given your love for this city and this organization, Saturday still give you little juice when you come in? Yeah, absolutely. I think um you try to treat them all the same. Yeah. And you prepare the same way, but you know when there’s things like tradition or things that uh you know run deep and I think in our society or our culture within the sport and certainly in Canada, you know, playing on Saturday, Hockey Night in Canada is a special thing. So um you never take it for granted. I love that it’s not lost on you. uh to the game itself. I mean um obviously we’re so early in this uh season, but you and Willie continue to u develop and build on that chemistry that you’ve had. I mean, why is it going so right so early for that tandem? Yeah, I think uh I think our styles complement each other well and I think now uh both being veterans and understanding the league and kind of how you’re trying to build and get better. Um, we’ve just had a good approach and continue to push one another, which I think is always key that, uh, we always challenge each other to be better. Last one for you. I’ve been asking all the guys, I said, I have to ask you, what tunes did you have in on their way into into the rink today to get you going? This would be good cuz, uh, yeah. So, I try to change it up, but a big staple for me and my family is actually James Barker band. So, um, my my boys love it. So, they always kind of wanted playing in the summertime and I don’t know, those puts me in a good head space of just uh, you know, when you’re kind of grinding away in the offseason and things like that and and, uh, preparing, getting ready to compete and get back out on the ice. Um, it kind of brings you back to kind of all the work that you’re putting in and just, I don’t know, just puts you in a happy place and feeling good. So, um, obviously it’s nice to share that with my kids, too. I like it. We’ll give a listen. Thanks so much. Good luck tonight.

  1. He should never have lost captaincy. The guy who has it now has a long way to go to be the pro and the leader that Tavaris is . At this point I doubt he ever will have it. John has the hard working consistency and brings it every game.
