Lakers are BACK?! 🗣️ James Worthy LOSES IT as Luka Doncic TORCHES Ant-Man & the T-Wolves – 49/11/8!
[Music] Hello and welcome to Access Sportsnet Lakers brought to you by your Toyota dealers. We make it easy. Chris McGee alongside the Hall of Famer big game James Worthy Mike Breznahan. We have Mike Trell handling the postgame duties. Ally with a great debut on Amazon Prime. Lakers bounce back in a big way. They roll the T-Wolves. Luca Magic was incredible. We’ll get to him in a moment. AR and Ruie had big nights. Uh Lakers had a great third quarter plus 12. They made free throws. They shot 62% until the final three minutes when they took everyone out. 41% from three. And James, I asked you before the game what you wanted to see tonight as compared to game one. You got that and a lot more. Yeah. What I really want to see right now is Yeah, I was hoping that was coming. Oh man, it was the first worthy clap of the year. Send them in. I need to see some new worthy claps. But Gita, you are absolutely right. We saw a major correction from game one. You know, we said after game one, okay, it’s only game one. Get that out of the way. Let’s see if they can recover. And they did. They came with a sense of urgency almost. Uh Minnesota was extremely hot uh in the first quarter. They hit a lot of threes. The Lakers hung in there. Uh they got other people involved. Luca obviously uh able to carry them in the first half, but I also thought they had the energy they needed from uh their center in Aton who had a plus nine in the in the plus minus category. That’s what you want to see. He had the energy. He rebounded. Uh I think he had about 15 points as well. Uh but the energy really changed when Marcus Smart came in the game. You It’s amazing how contagious energy is. He dove on the floor a couple times, then Vanderbelt came in with his presence and uh but I thought the key tonight was and I talk about him all the time was Ruie. Uh he he only got a couple rebounds, but you know his his activity offensively being a threat. Uh I just thought that uh the third quarter, Gita, you said they corrected that from the first game. They came out uh focused and their defense in the second half was was very very good. Uh they didn’t allow them to get easy buckets. Uh they didn’t allow offensive rebounds uh as we thought Minnesota would present that type of threat. Uh I was pretty impressed with the with the connectanceness of the team uh in the second half. Bold your thoughts. A happy big game is good for the postgame show. DeAndre 8 with Mike Trell. Roll those shoulders. Happy for DeAndre Aton had a great game. But I want to start with Luca guys. most points ever scored through two games for the through through the first two games in Lakers history. Passing Jerry West is Luka Johnson. She has 92 points, 23 rebounds, and 17 assists. You look at it right there. 1969, Brez was was just a thought at that point. Jerry West had uh 81. Luca with 92. Brez, he’s averaging 46, 11, and nine through two games, but he was absolutely phenomenal tonight. Uh he had 23 in the first quarter, 32 at the half. He has to be the guy to step up. I I think it’s pretty evident as long as LeBron James is out of this lineup, which it looks looks like it’s going to be for at least another few weeks. Luca has to be that guy to make things happen. He did in the first game, but the Laker defense was a little skew. And I was a little worried tonight. Lakers gave up 40 points in that first quarter. He, you know, as good as Luca was, Minnesota outscored him in the quarter. But then Laker defense was great. And Luca, he had really nice rhythm. He knew when it was time for him to shoot and get his and when to find Aiden, when to find Reeves, when to make the pass that led to the pass and led to the bucket. I feel like his his his orchestration of of the entire game was just so much fun to watch. And he had a killer three over JD McDaniels in in that fourth quarter that really made sure the game was out of reach. He’s three assists shy of averaging a triple double. He missed it by one in game one and two tonight. James, I think what’s even more incredible is he did this on 23 shots. Yeah. Efficient. Mhm. Efficient and very smart in his selection of shots, not forcing an issue, taking advantage of of mismatches. You never see him try to outquick anybody. Very poised and uh knowing what you have to do. gater. I mean, he was like a he was like a musician playing solo uh playing a solo tune, but every now and then he let everybody else get a little little solo in tune and get a little snare drum in there, let the guitar, but he always come back to the solo. He just he just performed tonight. It was a beautiful thing to watch. He played smart. He played wise. Uh he didn’t try to force the issue. He realized when he needed to get other people involved. You’re just a mastermind when you have that kind of professor out there on the court. So, I want to talk AR and Ruie. Uh, the combination of 48 points on 19 of 28. AR was 25 and 11 and seven. But, let’s start with Ruie Brez because we talked a lot about with LeBron James being out, he has to be consistently that number three guy. And Dwayne Wade, it was like he was in our studio the last few days. He he he talked about Rudy only having six shots. you mentioned in the pregame show. All were from three in that first game. Different story tonight. He was aggressive. He had the volume. He got to his spots. He didn’t settle. That’s what we want from Ruie. He was phenomenal tonight. Yeah. To to continue James metaphor. I think Ruie was playing the saxophone out there tonight. Whenever Luca was finding him, Ruie inside the ark tonight. So, we’re talking two-point shots, eight for nine. How about that? After going zero for zero on two-point shots the other night. and and James, I thought he he kind he confused me. He confounded me a little bit the other night in the season opener. Yeah, three for six from three-point range. You’ll take that any night, no matter who you are. That’s a nice That’s nice. But he just didn’t venture inside the paint and uh stick a little three tonight. Much more active tonight. G again near the paint. Did a little mid-range. Love this little uh euro. Uh took a little contact, got the bank. I feel like Rudy was so important tonight. There he is. fill in the lane on a little fast break attempt. A great play by Austin Reeves to fire that ball over to him. Really impressed by Ruy tonight in the second game of the season. And still with only two rebounds, he still gets a plus 11. I want to pay uh a close attention to that this year because sometimes you don’t have to score or get a lot of numbers to still have an impact on the game. That means that he was going after them still, but he just wasn’t getting them. So, uh I just love uh the way he played his game tonight. I think he knew he had to be impactful, physical, uh, and, you know, knocked down a variety of shots to three, the mid-range, and he done it well. James, last year ended abruptly to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games, and we tipped our hat to the T- Wolves. They were more physical. They were better defensively. They attacked the Lakers. They were confident. the size. The Lakers tonight, even without Jackson Hayes as a backup big, going to Vando as the center in the middle of that third, we talked about how Vando and Marcus Smart changed the game. Um, it it was a different different story tonight. Now, it might be different the next time you’re playing, but for tonight, the Lakers beat him in all those little intangible areas. And you know, my hats off from learning from last year in the playoffs and remembering how to play them, you know, this year knowing that they had size advantage, knowing they had Go Bear dominate us, knowing they had Ant uh and, you know, some amazing scores. Um, they just kept their their their think cap on the whole game. It’s sometimes it’s, you know, you get distracted and you come out with a a a third quarter like they get against the Warriors, but they stay connected. I saw Reeves um, you know, before they came out at at the third quarter, he had them all together, you know, reminding them what they’re supposed to do. And that’s how you connect as a team. But their defense, Vandervelt, um, you you know, he’s had experience playing even Jokic before. So, he he really aggravates big center. So, he came in, did his thing. Mark is smart. I gotta tell you, he’s verbal, he’s physical, and you know, he’s always, you know, active around the basketball. So, when you get that kind of, you know, service from guys, it it becomes contagious because you see them doing it and it kind of it kind of pumps the whole team up. I mean, Brez, the last time we saw Goar, he was Lou Alinder from Power Morton, right? Could do whatever he wanted. He was just dunking every play and having the best game of his life. He had two points tonight. 6 months ago, almost to the day, he had 27 points and 24 rebounds against the Lakers. Game five of the first round, Lakers done for the season. Zero blocks tonight, Brez. Two points, seven rebounds. Yeah, Rudy Goar didn’t change. He’s still Rudy Goar. What happened was the Lakers changed. Obviously, they did not play a true center in that game five and and most of that game four. Um both losses for the Lakers. And now you’ve got Goar two points and seven rebounds. Yeah. I mean, that’s that’s not even good for him. Yeah, you know, so good job DeAndre Aiden. I love the Lakers small ball lineups. You were kind of heading that way a minute ago. James Vando played a little center tonight. Ruie played a little center tonight. Uh Aiden got much more play tonight. He didn’t take that many more shots, but I just felt like he was much more in the thick of game thick of things tonight in this game. And I feel like his his buckets were easy tonight. I mean, I saw Marcus Smart go down and guard Go Bear a couple times. Why not? I mean, just a tough turnaround from six months ago. All right, time to hear from coach JJ Reick, brought to you by your Toyota dealers.

Still warm up Lakers, 5 more games and were back
Warriors said: they will come back for us😂
At least Davis is past his prime and Luka is just entering it, otherwise that trade would look stupider every day.
Wait…
You got that wrong i guarantee you thay when Lebron comes back Lakers will play worse cuz he plays to much minutes and is to big of a minus in box plus minus to make them play good
74-8 best record ever, greatest team ever…Luka >>>> Jordan and Kobe…this team is gonna 4 peat…AR unstoppable, Luka/AR best big 2 in the history of the NBA….Luka scoring champ, MVP, Finals MVP
Marcus smart was the key believe it or not
Smart especially, but Vando as well makes it so obvious how important it is that they show effort, dive for the ball and make the offense uncomfortable! I loved to see that Ayton was finding his place as well. He didn't take a ton of shots, but he was good on defense and showed some aggression, which got him some easy buckets, more room to grow to be sure, but he did good.
Luka was magical, and the team effort was just great!
ayton actually looked decent from what i seen today, didnt watch the whole game.
I'm a Lakers fan but one win don't excite me our roster not deep nor fast/ Minnesota not deep either/ Lakers need a point guard to play along Luka / I don't know what these coaches be thinking/ Res playing forward not long standing/ Just like Dallas playing Flagg at point/ I understand both teams trying to get their best 5 on court/ we see how the Lakers look after the first half of the season
The only 4 star general leading a team in the nba
Luka can score every night 40+
Can't remember the last time James Worthy was this genuinely happy with the Lakers 🤣
Jerry West…44 West VA. The Lakers played 13 years in Minneapolis.
Lakers got the offense, they need to trade LeBron and Bronny for defense players to have a chance to the finals ….
LUKA THE DON
WIZ SAID SO
The LeBron Luka Vando Smart Ayton line up will give teams nightmares
Luka plays out of devotion to the game, his coach and his team. He plays with heart and not under threats from coaches like Nico. Great to see Luka thriving.
Lakers is a trash team. Antman and wolbes are nothing
Luka balled out, but I'd like to give flowers to the rest of the squad. Jake, Marcus, and Vando played extremely well on the defensive end. Ayton was OK as well. I wish he would bully more in the paint, but he was better than the first game.
James Worthy goes nuts !!!! Explodes into a pile of Skittles
Ayton will be back to his sub par self next game.
Smart needs to start
Lol 😅😅😅 only one win and 1 lost
Dallas has Kyrie … Who needs Doncic !!! 🤤👍
New Luka level is unlocked.
Until Lebron forces his way back in.😂😂😂😂
Happy for Luka. Jerry west didn't have a 3 point line. Can't compare…..
