New Orleans Pelicans vs Memphis Grizzlies Full Game Highlights Oct 22, 2025 NBA TODAY
Kirkland 26th NBA season 76 playoff games by finals games. Ray Acasta ninth season six playoff games season and we are underway at FedEx form. Lob over the top intended for Caldwell Pope knocked away and stolen by the Pelicans. Speed drive and finish by Jordan P. He and CJ McCullum exchanging addresses. A great play designed out of to start the basketball game. Just Jiren just under threw that lob attempt. Grizzlies wanted to get the crowd out of their seats as quickly as possible. Mor over Williamson sends it and scores it to tie the game. John Morant didn’t play the preseason, but you didn’t have to worry about was he going to be ready for the regular season as he comes out and knocks down the first shot of the season. Tried to take a charge from Herb Jones and Morant called for the foul, his first. two franchises since they were drafted into the league. They had only faced off eight times prior. Williamson a bit of bully ball misses from the foul line. Jaylen Wells with a running rebound. And Grebin, rebounding is going to be huge story in this game. And a foul called on Jordan P. Rebounding will be a huge story. This was a New Orleans team a year ago. did not shoot the ball very well, but they made up for it by being a good offensive rebounding team. That was the one area last year where they tried to have a little consistency with this basketball team, but the reason why they have struggled, similar to the Grizzlies, they had the injury bug last season that derailed them. New Orleans started 20 different players last year at one point. They were tied for the second most different starting lineups used last year and fifth in the league. in terms of games lost to injury. Grizzlies were seventh. So both these teams a year ago dealt with significant health issues. Shot clock at 10 for Morant. Wells for three comes up short and a rebound to Herb Jones. Well, the thing that you see this Pelicans team, no true point guard on the floor, DeJonte Murray who would be is Jordan Pu. You know, the one thing he doesn’t need is time. He just needs the basketball. And we will have those opportunities. You see there they will do by committee guard play on this Pelicans team. Pool 38% from the arc last year in Washington. A miss by Caldwell Pope. Last touch by the Pelicans. Grizzlies with 14 on the shot clock. [Applause] The big injuries for New Orleans. De Jonte Murray out with the right Achilles rupture. Cavan Looney. And those are two integral pieces of the puzzle for Willie Green. I think Cavon Looney will be with me being there. Of course, he is a futures. Morant attempts his first three in and out. But to have a veteran behind is going to be huge for them. Williamson bull in a china shop draws a foul. Went right at Jock Landale and Jock picks up the foul. So he is such a single appeared in just 30 games a year ago. averaged 24 and a half points per game. There is Cavan Looney coming over from the Golden State Warriors. He is dealing with a left knee injury. Of course, a big thing for Zion is the physical change that you’re able to see. And yes, he has slimmed down, but he has not lost any strength with the slim body. Well, talking with Tomas Eilo earlier tonight, he said what concerns him most about Williamson is his ability to collapse your defense in the painted area and an offensive foul. Jiren Jackson Jr., I thought the thing for Jiren this year, which is going to be different, was he’s going to be putting a lot more screen and roll action than he has ever been in his career. And it’s going to be imperative for him and the ball handler that they allow him to get set on the screen so that he doesn’t have there’s not another area that brings fouls into play for him. You mentioned no true point guard on the floor for New Orleans. Josie Alvarado is available but will come off the bench. Jaylen Wells with the foul and Grizzies getting themselves into team foul difficulty here in that role. That’s where he’s going to be. And so leave him and that that group together coming off the bench. Good to hear Lando. Orlando got the block. You don’t say anything and you can try to influence it and that’s exactly what you do. Seven on the shot clock. Pool uncorked a three and P struggled last year in two games against Grizzy. Just nine and a half points. Three of eight from three. Jaylen Wells basically locked him up. Morant in the lane for two. That is going to be a major shot for John Moran all season long with little mid-range pull-ups. Pool drives, dishes [Applause] Williamson. Oh, good D. Caldwell Pope got the knock away and was trying to save it but could not execute the tightroppe act down the sideline and New Orleans retains with six on the shot. The lane just could not save it. Olivier Maxense prosper into the game on a two-way contract with the Grizzlies. Herb Jones knocks down a three and New Orleans red-hot from three. Three for things I’m going to watch all season. So the Grizzlies rebounding and points off turnovers is foul here. Her Jones with the grab of John Mor. And to start this game right now, the Grizzlies two turnovers. The Pelicans have turned that into five points already. Savvi Alama on the floor with Omax, Morant, Wells, and Landale. No changes for the Pelicans to this point. Pelicans 14-9 in openers all time. This is the second time in the last three seasons these teams have played each other in the opener. Aldama, good strong contest from Herb Jones. And Herb Jones an excellent defensive player. And P with the delivery. And Murphy rings the bell for his first bucket of the night. And the Pelicans five of seven from the floor. Morant in traffic. There’s another turnover. Jones and Williamson collapse. Pool a logo three and his first miss on the night. The Grizzlies struggled offensively during the preeason, the Miami Heat game. They put it all together in that basketball game, the last one, but nice here. Good cut, good freakish athleticism. Finished his collegiate career at Marquette was with the Dallas organization until signing with Memphis. Travels. Mei travels and turns it over. Mei an all rookie selection a year ago. And because of that, it would get people open, but it also got himself open as he did on that back door cut. Illegal screen. Santi Alama. Another turnover. I think you an official sees the two hands be used as the screen setter. That’s is what you use to set the screen. It’s an easy call for the official. Grizzlies. Four turnovers. Two of these points. Trail by seven. [Applause] Herb Jones places a three. And Herb Jones two for two from three. His Pelicans team last year shot below 35% from three and just 45% from the floor. Wells responds with a three of his own. Jay Wells did throughout the entire preseason. He’s able to knock down shots off of the dribble. Last year he was a catch and shoot guy. Nice to see him add that to his game. Sadique Bay in for the first time tonight. Former Piston and Wizard. A scoop, no score, tries to follow and it’s out of bounds. Javon Small very well from distance in the preseason. 59% from three. Uses another one of the bright spots. Good swing of the ball. Aldamo and the rebound to Jones. We talk about bright spots throughout the preseason. Javon Small was one of them for the Grizzlies. Jones a walk up three and a follow guided in by Mei. That’s what Mei did so well last year for New Orleans. Dominate on the offensive glass. It’s where he got most of his points last year. Caldwell Pope a catch and shoot three. That is well short. [Music] Murphy drives off glass and in for Trey Murphy. Grizzlies in transition likes to be a little bit better. Get the ball stopped and long arms there. Herb Jones forces another turnover. Pelicans were middle of the pack last year forcing turnovers. Pools floater is in and the Grizzlies down 13 with five and a half remaining in the first quarter. Some of those things that were issued during the preseason, a little bit of issue here, which is giving up high percentage shots to the opponent. Jiren Jackson Jr. misses the three. And the Grizzlies have not been able to make New Orleans pay New Orleans last year, Brevin, their defense was their Achilles heel. And the thing about it though, their defense, you see here, all the way to the front of the rim for Trey Murphy the third and and right now Pelicans have it. Let’s check in with Rob Fischer. Well, head coach Tomas Eelo during that timeout he said to the guys, “Hey, we’re not doing what we’ve been practicing.” He said couple of examples. One, too much one-on-one offensively. He said, “We’ve got to do a better job of trying to get a piece of the paint offensively.” Then he said defeensively, “No communication yet for the Grizzlies.” Grizzlies down 15 here with 440 to go in the half or in the first quarter. Cedric Coward in for the first time making his NBA regular season debut tonight. A big damn thing for the Grizzlies partner also is to force New Orleans to have to execute in the half court. Don’t let them get the transition scores. You see there a 24second violation because they don’t have a guy to orchestrate the offense. What they want to do is play free basketball. Push the ball down the floor, kick it ahead, play. But if you have to force them to execute, see if they can execute without having a PG on the floor. Dickson and Jordan Hawkins into the game for New Orleans. Jiren in the post goes to the left-handed drop off. I think Dickson big body. Don’t think that he would be able to move his feet well enough to stay in front of Jiren. Good hands here by Cal forcing. Aldama sets up small. Javon bullet pass down low. Tic-tac-toe passing. Jackson can’t finish but did draw a foul. That’ll put him at the free throw line. The defensive offense is what the Grizzlies have been known for. Coward gets a hand on the basketball. It starts. Jiren good with the first free throw. Changing his number from 13 to eight this year. Also, Jeremiah Fears out of Oklahoma. Seventh overall pick by the Pelicans making his NBA debut after averaging 17 a game for the Sooners last year. He likes having that zero under the fears. That lets you know he fears no one. Saw him in summer league action and he plays with an absolute lack of fear. Zan Williamson back on the floor. for rookie matchup here between Fierce and Small. Fears fade away knocks his first NBA shot down. And the thing that they like with Fierce is they don’t want him to go out and be anything but a basketball player. They don’t want to have any anything to take away from his freedom. Jackson left the yes and the foul. throwing right at Dickinson and Dickinson really Brevin has very little chance to slow down Jiren Jackson Jr. Well, the thing is a couple of his feet with that move to the paint and converts the three-point play. Grizzlies within 10 after trailing by 15 to make a little bit of a run here to finish out this first quarter. Williamson against Aldama. Saki got the block. Williamson in traffic. Block again. Aldama two blocks in that sequence. Caldwell Pope Santi drives on fears. Got too far underneath the bucket. Jiren is able to save it. Coward sets up Jiren. Corner three around and out. Coward battling for the rebound and was able to deflect it off of Zion Williams to get the block. Caldwell pokes for three and Williamson got up in the air and then Coward fouled him. 14 foul on the Grizzlies. [Applause] And Contavius Caldwell Pope in animated conversation with Ray Acasta about that call. Yeah, because the thing is is Cra did nothing. He was just standing there the entire time. And another turnover forced here by the Grizzlies. Coward going to the rack. Banks it in and the foul. If you want to create some type of pace. Coward to the free throw line. Averaged 10 a game in the preseason. Struggled with the shot. Really part of it wasn’t so much struggle with the shot. He struggled with his three-point shooting. Yeah. Particularly that was the that was the struggle and that is three of 26. Exactly. That is what you what he will have to continue to learn. Dickinson floater. A lefty floater from the rookies. Size is no issue for this Pelicans team this season. [Music] Two minutes remaining first quarter. Back on the floor and this group has brought some athleticism and some juice off the bench. Ax for three. Small trying to save it. Stepped out of bounds. Morant Landale and Wells. back on the floor. Rerack the clock here. A delay of game warning. [Applause] But this, you know what I’m saying? This this is how the Grizz is going to have to play. Execution may not be there every night, but energy and effort will be there. Yeah, it has to be there every single night. You’re playing without Tai Jerome. You’re playing without Scotty Cippen Jr. who had an absolutely amazing playoff and late season run and an illegal and those turnovers have slowed the Pelicans offensive explosion which they had started this game with. Morat drives to the foul line out of the double team. Attacks and dunks. Nice find by Mor. But the reason why it works, Landal rolls hard to the backs. That takes Dickinson with him. That means a clear drive to the basket. Williamson dishing active hands. Bay able to recapture it. Eight to shoot. Drops it off. Dickinson missing the floater. Rebound to Mor. Grizzlies within seven. Trying to edge a little closer. That pass. Well, good thing Coward has a 7ft wingspan. He was able to reel in that errant pass from Mor. Final minute, first quarter. Shot clock at 10. Moran for three. Bango. John Mor hits for three. Seven for Mor and the Grizzlies within four after trailing by as many as 15. Fears misses the reverse. Wells a rhythm three. Yes, sir. And the energy continues. Now it’s baskets and back-to- back threes by the Grizzlies. 18 to4 run by the Grizzlies. No fouls to give either way. Eight the difference shot clock to game clock. Here comes Williamson down the lane. Got fouled. And Zion Williamson to the free throw line with 14.1. Back to the free throw line where he was 0 for two earlier in the quarter. I think the other thing that had slowed down for the Pelicans the fast break opportunities you said to start the game they were able to play with the pace up and down the floor. The Grizzlies have stopped their pace. They have picked up their own pace have slowed the Pelicans. Williamson over four from the floor, two for four from the line and it’s a three-point game. Pelicans don’t have a foul to give. Shot clock goes dark. 7 seconds remain in the period. Mor against Fears. Mor trying to break him down. Fadeaway jumper comes up short. And that’s the end of the first quarter. Har begging for a

This is a good game so far
Pelicans aren't ready for the NBA
Yes Ja Morant was playing
No respect from refs for Zion he gets no calls
Gayle please sell the Pelicans and Saints ASAP! 😂
Camera angle trash
Who is filming this and what is wrong? The quality sucks compared to the previous years. Someone get a professional! Tell the camera person to back up and get a wider view, this is pathetic!
