Elias Pettersson, Kiefer Sherwood & Adam Foote Post-Game Media | Canucks vs. Oilers (Oct 26, 2025)
Yeah. Uh, a lot of guys out, but then a lot of guys are stepping up. Um, really proud of of the team. We played hard and um, beat a really good team today. Good job to stick with it when they battled back in the third period and still find a way to get a win. Yeah, for sure. Um, I mean, they they got two of the best players in the league and um, they’re going to get their chances in crates. So, um, but still we stuck with it and, um, yeah, got the win. How much did you embrace going up against tonight? Yeah, it’s, uh, it’s, um, full on attention every shift you play against them and dry settle. Um, just trying to take away time and space for them, but, um, yeah, they’re they’re a little McDav’s a little faster than me, so he’s trying to get some, but yeah, it’s um, yeah, I’m good. What about the way Kefir played tonight in particular? Uh he plays with that edge, plays with that speed all the time and um I mean his goal today was uh was uh was amazing to see. Um very happy for him. What’ you think of the three forwards in overtime? Yeah, it was good. We won us the game. So um I liked it. Yeah, I guess we went to the coaches. Uh they did the pre-cout and when I uh was totally got Ron, I was uh you sure? But um obviously it worked out. you know, we we uh we practice that stuff in training camp, uh the threeon-ree stuff. So, it was nice to apply it in a game. And obviously, um you know, every little detail matters. Last year, we you know, we lost too many in overtime. So, it’s good that we’re um you know, making making work of uh what we applied after a few games where the results could have been different. How important was this win, especially with the guys that are out of the lineup right now like Hughes and Yeah, I mean, you can’t see replace him. um is the best, you know. So, we just got to, you know, pull the rope together and and kind of um you stick our identity that we’re continuing to build out each and every day. And um you know, it’s a full 60 minutes. Obviously, we took on some water there and the top guys are going to get some looks, but we just stick together. Denver played a hell of a game again and um yeah, we nice to get two points. How about your line and in particular, you and Drew on the for check? Seems like you gave them fits at times. Yeah, it’s something we talked about. I just want to be relentless in the fore and get pucks back and from there uh you know talked to the coach today and they just said just stick with it you know just um things will open up and uh they were right so it was um you just trust the process and you know stick to the the blue collar mentality that we’re trying to build and um that that momentum and energy is contagious for the next lines too. How much did you need this game? You know, two goal lead tonightough string of games. Yeah, I mean uh the games are coming fast here. So, um you know, we got to just dig in and every day is a new day and uh you know, it’ be nice that you know we can just keep rolling and get on a nice streak, but it starts with one and uh you know, we got a big game now against New York coming up. So, um we got to buckle in and stay ready. Given the schedule that you’ve had and the injuries that you’ve had, how do you think the team has handled it on the whole? Great. I mean, like uh um we just stick together, you know, through through all the ups and downs. It’s uh you know, coaches say, you know, keep our emotions in check, but it’s true. Like, it’s it’s a long 60 minutes and there’s going to be ups and downs and power plays and PKs and stuff. So, we just got to rely on the strength of the team and um you know, get our work boots on. How much do you enjoy these games against like a division rival like the Oilers? Yeah, it seems to always have a little extra juice in them. um you know there’s uh definitely top tier talent on their side and um like I said we we have to stick to what we know best and um kind of relying on the group and starts with our D and our goalending. So it was nice that we buckled down and just got the job done. Another key for Sherwood chant from the fans. What does that mean to you? Uh yeah it’s uh just try to stay in the moment and obviously means the world. That’s why you play the game just those feelings and just try to give them moments to um cheer for and keep building on. Yeah. could have had a hatty. Yeah. Fine jar for the off. Yeah, that’s on my right. We’ll get him back. We’ll get him back. So, it was good though. We We learned from it and we move forward. Well, Adam, what did you like about the performance from your group tonight to stick with it after the Oilers got back into it and ultimately get the win? It’s a great sign for us. Uh we get that road trip and the pit game, we were all over them early and it didn’t go our way. Uh could have easily put that away. Nashville as well and then you know um even our last game. So to see I think you don’t want to go through this the way we’re going through it but it’s going to help us at the end uh whatever wherever the end is. um to go through this now. Our belief is so much different now where um we’d go rogue maybe in the past uh get off our belief of how we’re going to play and when they tied it up we we kept going. We kept uh being relentless and uh believing in the system and it was all four lines and uh all our D and Denver and that’s what I love about the game. We’re playing against a good hockey team. They lost last night. They came in with the heat again. Um they were going and and we didn’t give them a lot five on five and um we had a mistake but so did they. That’s hockey. So there was a lot of good things tonight. How important was that Okconor Ratu and Sherwood line particularly on the four check to help you generate some on time. Yeah, they were good. That was Okconor’s best game of the year. He he he seemed to you know he hit the bar I think on the one and then the the goal what he got got called back and I’m like okay is this guy getting a break and he he played so well defensively his best defensive game without the puck they’re a good team off the rush they hit the weak side five on five they’re trying to hit the weak side a lot and he he played really well um without the puck tonight which was huge um but I also thought the kid line uh as we get going we’ll probably use them more like but trying to break them in easy but They play so well together and they give us so much speed and they forch check and um you know all our lines uh we had a hard matchup with Pey over McDavid. I loved his the way he committed to the def defensive side of it and I thought Riel played really well with Kainer um against dry salon. You talked earlier today just wanting to see the team control their emotion and play to their game. Is that what you saw from the group today? I did. Uh, you know, there’s so many guys that are are starting to really figure it out. Like I really like Garly’s game and where he was with his growth as a leader uh in the third period when maybe you know things were kind of going maybe the way we didn’t like it and he was just real calm. I like that. I thought Person was real calm and um it was good to see. Speaking of controlling emotion, you mentioned Kefir Sherwood with that as well uh earlier, but he gets that goal called off, then he comes back and grabs another one. Did he control it well tonight as well on his side? Yeah, well said. It’s You’re so right. Um you know, earlier in the year he he didn’t and that’s what made him probably get a job in the league was he played with so many emotions and um energy and now he’s learning to manage it. And a guy like that, you want him to play with those emotions. And sometimes he’s going to be off 5%, 10%. You just don’t want him to be off 20 or 25%. So, he’s doing a good job with that. Building on that, we’ve seen Kefir’s game in terms of how he uses his body and how um maybe he can be more of a a shutdown kind of guy, but we’re seeing more of an offensive side to him this year. What have you seen in terms of his growth from last season to this season? Sure. Sure. What you see? Yeah. Yeah, I mean he’s got speed. Uh he’s when he uh when he plays within his emotions, when he controls him and with his speed and his skill set, uh he’s he’s playing with confidence right now. I think the forch check game we’re playing right now. And not only I call it a mini forch check off sprays for a shot on the net and it goes to the weak side or strong side. Our team’s really good at forch checking again and our D are coming down trusting the reload which means a forwards backing them up before you can even see it. Um you know we were probably more on pause in the past the D not going down hoping the four would be there like you got to see it. We’re we’re trusting it and I think uh we want to have that mentality that we want them to feel in their end that we have an extra player on the ice and uh that’s cuz guys like Sherwood are reloading quick. He’s using his speed or Connor and then you know our D are down on the play and then we get going again. We just keep humming and humming and humming and having them in and um I think he’s bought into it. Talk to us about the decision to have three forwards in overtime. I just thought our D like unfortunately Mancini went down and that’s dayto day and someone’s probably going to ask me that question but um our D retired they play a lot of hockey and like they’re big bodies and they’ve been overloaded and you could see that in the the third period I could tell they were getting tired and they were doing great job and you get in that three and three it’s a lot more skating you know um so you know Sherwood had legs tonight and he we asked him to act as a D out there and he was up on the blue line. He did a good job and um it was mainly just the D were playing up big minutes back to back off the a real hard road trip with you know injuries. Um you mentioned the kid line earlier. Um for them to come and to the NHL for a coach, what is it like to have a line come together like that just start playing for you that already has chemistry? It’s great. I mean it’s a bonus. uh you’re you’re you see them in camp, you see them in preeason, you you hope they can they can maintain it and it it can continue and it has and um they’re good guys. They’re good kids. They’re learning on the fly and um they played well together. They’re out there to defend first and for check hard and and no odd man rushes against and then the rest of the things will fall into place and they’re doing a good job right now. with Elias Patterson. You’ve been using him in a matchup role a decent amount here and he leads the NHL now for forwards for block shots. Um just your thoughts on using him in that role as a matchup and how well he plays defensively. I think he’s thriving on it. I think he enjoys it. We had a discussion this year how he wanted to be he told me he wanted to be a very good defensive forward as well. And I think he’s just enjoying it. I think he enjoys the matchup. It gets his juices going. He gets into the game quicker. um he knows he’s dependent on it and I like the way you know he might have he’s got what I don’t know eight or nine points or close he he he might have more but he’s defending I always said you look at Dax suit Zedterberg even even Sack like those guys defended and could could defend now you wonder how many points they could had if they were on the far blue like some forwards we know do and uh Pety’s defending and I love that about him Adam you know you touched on this earlier but given Given the condensed schedule this year, the lack of teaching time, lack of practice time, or reduced practice time I should say, um how important is it for this group and any team to make those in-game adjustments and how much of a positive is it seeing them make the adjustments on the run? That’s great. Our whole training camp was designed and you know I get I learned that from Brick like to with you know he taught me that three years ago that you don’t have as much time at practice at this level like you used to that you have to start your training camp and the teaching and we have and there’s we’re sticking to when we do practice certain drills like we’re not getting 20 drills 25 drills right now just to keep their confidence going and um go over some of the things you’re talking about like we’re playing well you know when teams shift behind your net east west with the puck. It’s hard to play away from the puck like you guys get lost. And I think our coaching staff is doing a good job. We’re, you know, having movies, we call them, or clips where there’s a lot more teaching going on um from day to day that the players have accepted whether it’s one-on-one or in lines just because we do have the content schedule and have less practices.

Great effort and goals by Sherwood and EP40 tonight!!
Happy Petey 😁
the meme man happy 😂
how did sportsnet put draisatl AND roslovic above sherwood? two goals (one taken away, one of them the game winner in ot… not being first or at least second star is crazy
LETS GO PETEY!!!!
Honestly petey I’m genuinely so happy to see you playing back to form. Keep proving all the idiot 50 year olds wrong stud
Makes me so sad we didn’t exist end woody in the offseason… sadly even as an optimist there is no way we will be able to sign him unless he takes a big pay cut.
Crazy idea… but maybe we don't need Quinn? This team actually played like a team and played well without him
sign sherwood pay the man
EP40 is almost back baby!! Go Canucks Go!
sherwood gonna cost 5 mill to resign
Massive win for the Canucks, and without Quinn Hughes. Entire team was engaged and committed the whole contest, and the 3 right-handed forwards in OT should be our new strategy haha. Onward and upward!
Sherwood is a bargoon atm
Despite Hughes absence, they definitely all played like they're HUNGRY. That's how they need to play every game with desperation
Love the insight from Foote but he might want to hold back a bit on voicing his tactics so publicly every media scrum
So many Petey chants at the arena tonight 🎉
Sherwood is fast, shoots hard and fast with accuracy he should be a top 3 no doubt lol just a boeser with speed
One person won that game. EP40.
Incredibly impressed with Foote and Management.
His messaging is on point, the hockey is fun to watch, every game seems to bring something different and dynamic, and in spite of 10 injuries to some of our top players, we are treading water.
GIVE SHERWOOD THE A ON THE SHOULDER.
GIVE HIM A RAISE
It's good to see a smile on this man's face finally
